I believe that some of those political considerations are that there is no
provision for Clarke to stand down and then resume his seat if, and when, he
is found innocent.
Now, If a copper is stood down, it is usually with pay of some kind, and
reinstatement if, and when, they are found not guilty. Should Clarke not
have the same benefits? - particularly since he is yet to be found guilty of
anything.
When a parliamentarian is accused of something he/she does not usually stand
down until 'due process' is finalised. Should Clarke not have the same
benefit?
I do not, and will not judge - either partially or fully the case - and
neither should anyone else. To not deal with a person because they are
'accused' of something indicates to me that the person 'not dealing' has
formed an opinion.
Perhaps Karen, if one should stand down after being 'accused' of a crime,
then it would be of thought to accuse howard and burke of something - never
mind whether they have been proved guilty or not - and they then should
stand down too? Interesting idea. The country could really go to the dogs.
Or is this opinion based more on 'feminist' bias. Rape is very bad so all
men suspected of rape should be punished - just in case they should?. Get
real girl. Rape is a charge that STILL has to be proven in a court of law
and the emotional biases of people should - and justly do - be taken out of
any court proceedings.
If he is guilty then he should be punished as any person found guilty of
such a charge is punished. If he is found innocent he should be given the
same amount of media space he is now 'enjoying' so that all can see that he
is innocent. However, the world does not work like that. If he is found
innocent he will carry the stigma of being accused and the emotional bias of
people who will still believe he has committed this crime - no matter what a
court of law says.
He should not stand down just to assuage the suspicions and biases of those
who would commit without due process.
