Seconded. (And thirded :-)  In my day job I support a system that runs
a database for a large national UK company. It runs on a RAID-5 array.
Back in 2002, the top-of-the-line Adaptec controller developed a fault
and scribbled over ALL of the disks.

And auto-syncing packages don't help much if you accidentally delete or
overwrite a file. You need a proper backup that is not just a slavish
replication of whatever has been done to the primary data.
