 I would certainly comment the code to know where the algorithm came from.

 Given the size of the numbers, and would not at all be surprised if that
 produced a different set of numbers on different platforms. The best way
 would probably be to create a standalone C program with a main(), and let
 people test that. I could test that on a variety of systems were cddlib
 will probably not build (AIX & HP-UX for example). That would show if
 there was any hardware dependence.
