 I don't know what the GNU C copyright notice looks like, but "cutting it
 down to the bare essentials" would not be a defense if one was breaching
 that license. I don't think we can change the license just because you
 have taken a non-trivial subset of the code.

 Again, if there was a proper patch, it would have all this information in
 it.
