More motor mount questions:

Does anyone know if the motor mounts for a 115 and a 123 are the same?

My issue is that my car is a 1976 115 300D. Mercedes started making the
123 in late 1976 so both models were available that year.

Do I need to find ones expressly for the 115? That is proving more
difficult to do. I have tried searching for 1975 instead of 1976 but
there does not seem to be much offered.

Neither FCP Euro nor Autohaus AZ lists motor mounts for the 115.

MBZ has Uro.

Rockauto has different ones for 1975 than 1976. The ones listed for 1975
are sort of no-name things I have never heard of so likely Chinese or?
They have Anchor and Pioneer brands listed for the 1975 300D.

Thoughts?

The funny part is, RockAuto has a Made in America flag on the
Beck-Arnley transmission mount but not the motor mounts.

My surprise purchase from an old respected USA nameplate:
Remy alternator, about half the cost of Bosch. The pictures that Remy
supplied to Rock included one where you could see the regulator, which
said "Bosch Made in England" on it.

Awesome, I think I'll buy it.
And now my ML has a Remy Made in China alternator in it.
3 years later it's working fine, and I guess I can't complain, but the
one I took out was not Bosch or Valeo, and had crumbling wires to the
windings in it. I hope my Remy isn't the same quality as the prior
replacement alternator.

My dealer charges consumer list to anyone who walks in off the street. That's
the high list that you get gouged on. There is a lower list, which is the
price you'll see online with places like MB of Atlanta. I think it's either
10% or 15% off consumer list.

Then there is the jobber discount, which is what they give local shops. Also
known as a trade discount. That's what I get, and it is 25% off consumer list.
All I did was tell them I wanted to spend several thousand dollars annually

Re: [MBZ] Motor mounts

I show them available form the dealer for around $200 for the set of engine
(motor) mounts:

Left - 123 241 50 13 $82
Right - 123 241 4113 $127

Transmission mount:

There are a number of variants of this part. The OE parts are super expensive
for some reason, like over $200. I would look for a good brand on the
secondary market, such as Lemforder. No guarantees, but better than a URO.

Whenever possible, ALWAYS go for OE rubber, suspension or brake parts. These
are parts you may never replace again, so why be cheap and risk getting a
crappy part that will fail?

2014-10-14 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Looks like Meyle makes the transmission mounts for far less than OE prices, but
I would still try to find something better. To give you an idea of the crap
that's out there, the URO version can be had for around $10. Meyle takes you
up in the low $20 range, as does Febi/Bilstein.

What does that tell you? And how could they possibly make a quality part like
this for $10 and make a profit on it?

While he's at it, has he checked the differential mount? Probably not. That's
an often overlooked piece of drivetrain support.

 Transmission mount:

There are a number of variants of this part. The OE parts are super
expensive for some reason, like over $200. I would look for a good brand on
the secondary market, such as Lemforder. No guarantees, but better than a
 URO.

Whenever possible, ALWAYS go for OE rubber, suspension or brake parts. These
are parts you may never replace again, so why be cheap and risk getting a
 crappy part that will fail?

123 mounts are solid rubber. They either get real hard (shake shake) or get
soft and compress (shake shake). The original ones on my TD compressed to
the point some hoses/pipes rubbed on the fender (or maybe the shock tower)
until they leaked.

Re: [MBZ] Motor Mounts

2013-08-14 Thread Jaime Kopchinski
The servo was from 2001 or 2002... I forget which. But the airbags were
recent stock. I can't remember now, its been almost two years since I put
them in.

I actually drove the W109 today to make sure it would be ready to come home
(and stay home) for the first time later this week. Its been at the garage
at my old job and its time to get it out of there. Looking forward to
getting the water pump sorted out and getting some miles on it before
winter.

 doing the job.
So my guess is that the ones for the M103 are heavier dutier than the
ones for the M102 but the physical dimensions are the same.

doing the job.

So my guess is that the ones for the M103 are heavier dutier than the

ones for the M102 but the physical dimensions are the same.

meyle is almost never the answer . rein is a better shot. phoenix,
corteco, lemforder, crp, febi in descending order for other brands you have
a real good shot of ending up with OEM

dr fatty website only shows worldpac. they are highly committed to chinese
parts as the markups are huge. there are many other sources though and
some may still have some supply of real deal mounts and much better than
dealer prices.

it's hard to say nowadays as both supply and demand for oem parts is
dwindling. phoenix simply stops making them as they don't feel they can
compete with 'i can get the same thing from uro for 1/4 the price and
mercedes keeps raising the prices on their old stock in inventory to
astronomical levels. it's not what i thought would happen but it is what
it is.

i hate to further kill andrew's side business, but early 300TD mounts are a
different number than later ones. if andrew has the early ones in OE/OEM
form, they are worth jumping on as those are rare. the later ones are very
common and cheap in in genuine with the star scraped off form, which is
about the purest OEM you can get. i've got a bookcase full of the later
ones in original that i sell cheap, but for a 79, they'd be rare

what year are those TD mounts for? the ones for 79 and 80 are a different
spec than from 81 through 85. if you have original ones for the early car,
then they are good and rare and valuable . but if you have them for the
later car, they are common as dirt as phoenix make about a billion of them
and they are maybe worth like 20 something dollars each of they are OE/OEM
and far less if they are aftermarket. you can tell by looking at them as
the rubber will be stamped S11 and you will actually see where the star was
ground off, as if by a razor.

Re: [MBZ] Motor Mounts

2013-08-05 Thread Gary Hurst
that's exactly the point, andrew. the star is a mercedes trademark that
has to come in a mercedes box.

let's start at the beginning. for the most part, mercedes builds cars, not
parts. they buy parts and use them to build cars out of

phoenix makes mounts. mercedes says make this mount for us. phoenix
makes a bunch. mercedes buys a bunch. they are made for mercedes so they
are made with the mercedes stars on them.

other companies also want to sell those mounts. febi buys some. lem buys
some. crp buys some. corteco buys some. phoenix puts some in their own
boxes to sell. phoenix is happy to sell them but they don't make a
special edition of the mount for each reseller. so now there is a problem
as the proprietary benz trademark is on a rein/crp product. they CANNOT
legal sell the one with the star on it, so the answer is to grind off the
star. this is because they are selling them as a rein mount. to sell it
as a genuine MB mount, they'd have to buy it from MB at a huge markup to
waht they are paying phoenix, so there is no point as it all identical
product from teh phoenix factory in turkey.

it is NOT a mercedes mount, but mercedes is a kind of secondary branding
that only mercedes can use. it is a phoenix mount but manufactured
primarily for mercedes, so it carries the mercedes logo that must be
removed if sold as someone else's product.

get it?

again, as it is not being sold as a mercedes product it cannot carry the
starr

let me give you another example. i had a mexican palm hat for years that
was sold to me as a resistol brand hat. i replaced it with the exact same
hat but branded ranger. the ranger hat company cannot brand the hat
resistol just becasue both hats have a common source and are identical
models. . lemforder cannot brand something as mercedes just because they
have a common source and are the same model.

Re: [MBZ] Motor Mounts by the numbers

2013-08-05 Thread Hendrik and Fay
I can't say for sure in this case but MB uses different 'strength'
mounts for different engines.
For example my 300TE needed mounts and they are expensive, I had some
for the M102 engine and although the numbers are different they fit and
are doing the job.
So my guess is that the ones for the M103 are heavier dutier than the
ones for the M102 but the physical dimensions are the same.

I believe the M103 mounts are the fluid filled ones, which makes the far more
expensive than the solid rubber ones. I know my W140 has the fluid filled

I guess I was lucky - my 91 300D motor mounts changed fairly easily.
True i had to work from underneath to RR the center bolt, and getting
to the bolts on the top required some gymnastics but many tasks have
been worse. the best part was the HUGE improvement in the way the
engine was held in place and kept quiet!I was so happy I could not
believe it! The transformation was enormous!

I wish changing the Ms on my 78 240D W123 cwould make such a huge
dfference

On the M103 you also have to lift off centre, otherwise the exhaust will
cause the engine to tilt, best done at the rear of the engine.

Engine mounts on nearly all MB chassis are a piece of
cake. I got so good at doing 123 mounts I had it down
to about 30 minutes a side, and most of that was setup
 and tear down.

Just be sure to get a hex driver that goes on a 1/2
drive ratchet to break the bolt loose. And snap it,

[MBZ] Motor mounts

2008-06-09 Thread Curt Raymond
Okay well, this is part of why I have this car, to learn some new wrenching...

So how many mounts, just 2?
Worldpac hates me this morning and won't load...

These would have been replaced u 5 years ago when I first bought the car,
maybe 60,000 miles? Does that seem reasonable? In the last 2 years the car has
sat alot.

Engine mounts on nearly all MB chassis are a piece of
cake.nbsp; I got so good at doing 123 mounts I had it down
to about 30 minutes a side, and most of that was setup
and tear down.

Just be sure to get a hex driver that goes on a 1/2
drive ratchet to break the bolt loose.nbsp; And snap it,
don't just twist.

What's the situation with the motor mount replacement on my '83 300sD?
 More
or oess room? I wouldn't anticipate much difference from my W123 300D.

Re: [MBZ] Motor mounts, OM-617 - pic.

2007-10-29 Thread Scott Ritchey
I've replaced motor mounts on a 126 SD and a 123 TD. The SD is slightly
harder because you need to disconnect the engine dampers. On the other
hand, the 126 has a bit more room. You'll want to remove the air cleaner to
make room in both cases. I recommend a good set of hex bits for the 3/8
drive and a good assortment of 3/8 extensions. You want to be sure the hex
is fully inserted into the bolt head which may require picking out dirt or
crud first. The hardest part, in my experience, was getting the engine
aligned to start the last bolt on reassembly. This would have probably been
easier if I had a helper.

[MBZ] Motor mounts, OM617

2007-10-27 Thread Allan Streib
Installed my new air cleaner bracket today on my 300D. I ordered
motor mounts at the same time, but it was too late in the day to
start that job, considering it's not one I've done before. Something
unexpected always seems to come up when I do a particular repair for
the first time.

Even with the air cleaner bracket, for example, I had a lot of
trouble with the bottom bolt. Despite trying to be careful and using
a lot of PB Blaster, when I got it out it looked like it it had taken
a few threads with it. So -- had to stop what I was doing and make a
run to the hardware store for a new bolt, also got a tap to chase out
the bore and hopefully clean up the threads enough for it to hold.
It did seem to go back together OK.

Also did not know I had to unfasten the oil line flange on the
turbocharger in order to change the bracket. I did not have a new
gasket for the flange so reassembled with the existing one. It
looked OK, did not tear or anything when I pulled the flange off.

Anyway -- looking at the motor mounts and comparing them to the new
ones, I'd say the ones on the car definitely look flat. Can anyone
write up a quick how-to on the RR? Looks like there is a center
bolt that goes in from the bottom and two bolts that hold the mount
to the subframe. Do I just pull those two center bolts, raise the
motor a little, and then unbolt and replace the mounts?
