What would be the best path to do this?

If I had to this I would make sure of a few things.
Make and test out the backup so that you know before all your data is
moved that the bat works... no idea how much data is involved but I
know from personal experience that if you have to download as in my
case again from google it takes a long time...
Also I still have 50% still missing which was in voyager backup.
Keep also in mind that if you go for latest OS the Voyager may need an
update as well to make sure it can handle the latest files...

Reminds me, google and the bat donot do a proper job on downloading
again as dates on what comes in is totally adjusted to current
time/date...

There is this function IF, THEN and ELSE used in TB and using these

One could store all the email id's or even better, the domain name

C account so that once the REPLY button is hit, TB identifies under
which account that this message has to be replied.

At moment, what I have done is made a QT so that if the REPLY has to
be done with B account, but opens with A account, I run the QT and the
FROM id changes from A to B. sometimes, it is overlooked and the REPLY
goes under A which actually it should have been under B.

Easiest way is as you should have done(!) to make your several accounts

I donot use common folders as I have no need for them but if you have 3 accounts

consider buying a kingmax memory stick and run on there. Current last sticks are
big enough to probably store at least a year of data.!! Obviously: watch names!!
I think there will be a significant reduction in file size... Note make every
month a backup and store for that month!! One you start doing it you will make
your own methods to save time! But remember ALWAYS make sure to have 1 untouched

this inbox is fully accessible, although, occasionally it will also
appear blank-but I have always been able to repair it using the maintenance
 center.

Sorry to ask but have you run a disk check?
I myself prefer to run one of the EASEUS programs. Note I asked if you
run a checkup not to fix anything on the hard disk if there are any
errors... (http://www.easeus.com/)
Second question is if you have a spare Laptop hard disk (or usb disk)
so that you can see if with another disk drive the problem
disappears... Third one is: Is it possible to test laptop out without
that 60m cable in between... Maybe your network is a bit flaky.

I don't know if file size has anything to do with this, but the
inbox .tbb file is about 397 MB and the entire inbox is about
2.76GB. The entire primary account is 3.02 GB (file size is
determined by right clicking on the folder in Windows Explorer and
going to properties. The file size listings from within The Bat
do not appear to be reliable.

File-sizes from MS are also not reliable...
But I HAD a problem with Eudora many years in the past which was a
main reason to move to the Bat.. However I have no idea what they fixed
recently but something was done with the limit of 2 gb I thought.
I cannot run it
Do you really need all that data permanently accessible???

They must be backed up in some file other than QTB. Maybe QTN?

Normally what will help, assuming the programmers don't put stuff like

directory.
Or essentially whatever program has files 'missing'
Do note that some programs have 2 places where they put files, in

Main reason I put it back in working condition is that my son needs to
do some-thing for school and I just saw that office is in THAI...
Not much use if they screw it up! Anyway when his sister is back I

Re: Let's write an English manual for The Bat! that is suitable for printing

2008-12-02 Thread tracer
Well, I seem to remember LOADS of special pictures of the Bat over the
years. Not sure how many there were but I thought many since the begin if
you add special events! With many converting programs existing its just a
matter of finding the correct ones.

Actually it is no more difficult to offer a printable PDF or HTML for
download than it is to come up with the CHM file. Apart from some
rather minor formatting [page breaks can be awkward] the only downside
for RITLabs is the additional traffic the PDF will generate - since
 many will download it.

Compress it and it should make all the difference, or no difference I
mean...
No idea how winzip 12 behaves in practice. I tried it the last few days but
it seems a bit slow... However if conversion from Sony to LIT and PDF is
anything to compare with, it should be fast.
Converting a cd with Sony format to LIT took not much time... Obviously some
files were of the type which will not correctly convert automatic... I used
some Bean cd's for the test... (books)

A quick test run yesterday showed that there's one very annoying
formatting problem, which I think I can tackle in relatively short
time [hence: do it for free]. If it turns out I have to put in more
than a reasonable amount of time I will say so and either not produce
the PDF or ask for a little bit of compensation.

After all, The Bat! is a commercial product and my time is precious,
 too.

Re: Let's write an English manual for The Bat! that is suitable for printing

2008-12-01 Thread tracer
With the right software any manual you can look at can be printed
It may not be your taste but it will print.

Indeed, TB! isn't OS software, as you say, but it does come with a manual.
Okay, TB!'s manual hasn't always been the best, and over the many years I
have been using TB! the manual has received much criticism from users, but
 that's something else entirely...another topic.

From the very begin I seem to remember I printed it out...
Ok, on a mainframe...(g) on a laser printer...

It seems to me that the manual being discussed here is a 'printable
 manual',
which is something entirely different to an electronic manual supplied with
the software...as TB! has one of those. User's getting together to produce
 a
'free' (I would hope) 'print ready' manual for TB! is a project that
 doesn't
necessarily have anything to do with the authors of TB!

If you use a help file as starter it likely will have something to do with
them.

Many software vendors charge extra for printed versions of their manuals,
granted, but not all vendors actually provide printed or printable versions
of their manuals. This usually opens up the doors for third parties to make
a bit of money, and as we all know the manual writing business is rather
 lucrative.

It can be but not if you have to fix up whatever someone doesn't likes...

What surprises me is that the moderators who know about the product as
their names are on the website haven't bothered to interfere...

It opened fine here - but don't bother downloading it unless you read
Hungarian! This is not a joke.

I know but one never knows.
I used to be able to read quite a few languages as long as they used ABC.
That was about the only restriction and obviously a dictionary. I used to
read them and remember them...
If the text has to do with computers it normally isn't a big problem.
Finnish I can assure you is an exception!

You may not believe it but I can read and understand Swedish and Danish. No
Norwegian though and no Finnish! I just never had the need to try and
read/understand it.I have a few Swedish friends here in Thailand and
Danish is close enough.
Essentially I can read and remember dictionaries and with some practice it
becomes real time translation Since my last accident with motorbike its
not as good as it was!
Add having traveled for my work I can say that if it uses ABC I likely would
have been able to read or understand most of it... Arabic
obviously wasn't one of them but there are many words which come from Arabic
and Russian letters resemble Greek ones enough. No Thai obviously (which is
a problem as I live there)... or certain odd languages which don't resemble
anything else!
I must admit that obviously I understand more of Thai then they realize and
it becomes funny as various languages here in the neighborhood seem to be
closely related...

Hello ,

I realise that likely nobody has done what will be described by a
friend of mine below but maybe some suggestings could be provided what
may be happening and how to improve things...

Essentially he collects and archives many mailing lists and uses
Eudora for that.
No idea why, I asked him already.
Anyway he does the following:

  quote:
EXACTLY
i copy both the mbx and the toc from the cds to hardisk
save them to another new box
using the bat i import the eudora asfo mails mbx cd by cd
kill dupes
add the no dupes files to the first box in the bat
the messages in the bat;'s in box looks ok, no dupes
then i import the messages from the in box in the bat to forte agent
all the dupes are back

i am trying again the compress folder, you told me yesterday and try all over again
;-(((

EOQ

He doesnt like the threading of the Bat but whatever why should
duplicates LOOK to be gone and be back in Agent

Another friend uses filemaker to send / archive mail, has anyone
experience with that? Essentially what he wants is a convenient
offline mail archive...

Get rid of active desktop if you are using it..
Set all that display stuff to standard or better style like 98.

Use enough memory
No idea what you are using but believe me, most systems are running
less memory then they need.
I often make my customers the offer that I will fit extra ram free of
charge, ie I remove it if they donot want it. Most see so much speed
difference they want to keep what I put in
If you run anything like Xp or 2000, consider that the faster the
processor, the more ram you need to buffer between hard disk /
processor as afterall the hard disk is the stone behind your
computer and slowing it down.
if you run many internet tasks, multiple downloads or whatever enough
memory is a must.

Look under Account - Properties - Options. Check Allow send/fetch
without entering the access password (if any). That should do what you
 want.
thanks, shows that after all these years one is still learning...

Anyhow, after thinking about it, I can understand that using Re: in a *new
message* to mean 'Regarding' may be confounding to the recipient of it as it
may be mistaken to mean a 'Reply', but I am still uncertain whether there is
an actual proper or accepted usage of 'Re:' in email messages.

 Re: stands for Reply.

No. As the RFC says it means res.

it stands as far as I know for 'reference'...
