Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
ok everyone.. the TODO still has stuff in there, but I fixed all the critical things out. If you're subscribed to amsn-commits, you probably have been flooded, sorry about that :p What this means is basically that what I wanted to be done for 0.97 is done.. so the current SVN version is *ready* to be labeled 0.97... I don't want to do all this alone, so I need your help.. if anyone can spare some time, that would be great. I know most of you are busy, it's christmas, you wanna be with your family, etc.. and I respect that. I can take care of finalizing the code (changing version variable and date), and preparing the windows installer. Phil said he has some free time, so I guess he can do the autopackage.. Tom, we'll need you for the Mac binaries, I hope you'll have time, otherwise, don't worry, family is more important.. we'll manage somehow :) So there isn't much to do, but if some people can spare a few minutes, that would still help, or at least encourage us (we're a team, so feeling lonely on a release is not great). My current aim is to get this released for christmas.. which means in two days.. for december 25th.. if we can't get it for christmas, then the last deadline I'll be willing to have would be 31st of the december (for new year's eve). What do you guys think? anyone think I forgot something? anyting pending needs to be commited? etc.. ? keep me informed. p.s.: sorry for the short notice. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
ok, we're almost done for the release. Phil and I planned it to be for today! this is why I didn't sleep yet, trying to finish this DDP merge! Now, all that's left is to test it and make sure I didn't screw up anything too big to slip by... I also think that the current DP in the skin AND the 'connecting' gif are not good. the two faces, I don't like that, it's.. beurk :s I mean, I'd like to see something nice, colorful, cute, whatever.. not two big buddy faces. I don't know if others agree with me on that. Anyways, Gus, could you please change that ? for the connecting, can it be something related to the 'connecting' action ? like for example a PC and a link to a globe and the progress would be 'data' being transfered through the link cable or something? or I don't know soemthing to show that we are 'trying to connect'. And the new default DP (amsn.png) could you make it somehow different ? I don't like the buddy icons. I mean, the old aMSN DP was good and I know a lot of people who didn't change it, but since we changed skin, I think everyone changed his DP :p and it's too bad. Maybe keep the old DP ? just remove the '.linux' part from it or something ? anyways.. we're almost done now! ok, well, 'which slider works' is another issue, but can you try the color slider to some other values apart from 0 ? see if it really keeps the exact same value after you restart (maybe you need to restart the PC or just change those values using another application to see if amsn changes them back to what they're supposed to be or if it does nothing but as long as you didn't reboot, the kernel keeps the old value saved). Also try to have a visual effect on the cam, so for example, you put it in black and white (color=0) and see if you get it blackwhite next time (maybe the setting is set to 0, but the image doesn't reflect that setting?) OK, yes, you were right. I fired up 2 aMSN instances and set the color slider to a very small value (303) on the testaccount. The other one immediately set color to 256, not 303. I closed the testaccount, set it back to a decent value on the normal account, then started the testaccount again, it had more or less the decent value set. The visual effect corresponded to the slider value. ok, hard to understand what you did, but ok. in other words, at the end, the testaccount should have reset the value to 303, instead of getting the 'decent value' when you started it. btw, the 256/303 is not problematic I think. as long as it's not 6 vs. 10... anyways, it just confirms it, it doesn't reset the values... can you look at your config settings to see if it saved all the values correctly in the config ? it either doesn't save the value (so you get instead of 303:0:0:0) or it doesn't set it when you open the cam (I doubt that though). Yeah, chat window resize is a bit laggy for me, too, under Kubuntu. Also, I don't think that aMSN remembers the size of a resized chat window anymore, since when I resized it on the laptop after a fresh SVN install, it didn't keep it when I opened a window again. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
Hi, I'll answer both of you at the same time... Gus, why we want to have the same look as WLM ? simply because aMSN is a CLONE of WLM and what made amsn so popular today is one thing : same look and feel, that's our 'trademark' :p seriously, gaim, kopete, emesene, whatever, they all do the same thing, an IM client! but why choose amsn, it's because of its lookfeel, people coming from windows or who still are on windows, they don't want some application that changes everything, they don't want to get used to it all over again!!! I also liked Lord Zak's smileys, and that's when I say keep it as WLM, I don't say do a copy, on the contrary, lord zak's smileys are exactly the way I like it, simple, nice, funny, they have a little 'cartoon' touch, but they are the SAME as WLM's... I mean, on WLM, I always use ^o) I just like this smileys because it shows an expression I often do in real life... last time, I was trying amsn and I typed that smiley and it showed me some smiley that had NOTHING to do with the wlm's one!! it looks like a smile while having eyebrows in your face instead of looking up as if you're thinking about something, or talking ironically and teasing someone.. it's too different faces!!! the one crying :'( it looks more like someone peed on himself:p and the one with the glasses (H), for me I always called it the narcisic smiley because I use it when I want to joke as in I'm so great, I love myself, who wants my autograph kind of emotion, the one in svn is more like it's hot, I'm on the beach enjoying the sun... the party one is not clear, the 'angel' smiley, in MSN he has an aureole (the circle above his head) in amsn he has wings, it's 2 different things!!! The 'wilted rose' is also completely different from the original... and why I ask for the same smileys ? simply because you won't get used to the new smiley set, a smiley is an emoticon, an emoticon means it should show an emotion.. if the emotion it shows on your PC is not the same emotion it shows on the other user's pc, it's useless! About saphire.. I don't like the name :p but if you want to change it, I think you have 2 choices : 1 - delete, then readd 2 - write a support request on the sourceforge tracker telling them that it's been months since the 'svn move' command fails and they should enable it from the server because it's driving everyone crazy! About the TODO, I suggest you keep it somewhere like the 0.97 TODO has the todo for 0.97, you could create a thread skin TODO so you can keep track of everything and we can more easily report stuff to you, it will also give everyone a good appreciation of when the skin will be finished! now Lord Zak! I love the icons! As I just said, it's nice, it reflects the same emotions as the ones from WLM (so far), I hope you read my mail and will take into account what I said for the future emoticons (although you did good so far), I like the cartoony effect they have, although it looks a bit weird, it's a nice look to have it like that! they all reflect the same thing as WLM, so I'm glad, continue like that, get the whole set done and I think we just got ourselves a great new smiley set that everyone will surely like! So in short, thanks, they look good, keep it up, they are more than enough 'WLM-like' and yes, I'd be glad to have them as the new default skin's smiley set! :) Good night! If this will be not included in the default skin, i will in the original. By the way... Like many read in the forum, I've decided to change the name skin to Sapphire, so i tried to move Emerald2.0 to Sapphire2.0 (in amsn-extras)... but seems SF does not allow it. I think we should disable spaces support until the next release (be it the 0.97.1 if M$ get their brains in gear, or 0.98). Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
Hello IMO, this feature should be left disabled, and you will enable it in a release like 0.97.xx or something like that, otherwise you'll get a lot of people complaining that it doesn't works. Maybe you'll have to patch/correct the code to get spaces go to work out-of-the-box, but I pray that you won't have to do so. When this new release will be ready, the notification will tell (?) the user that a new release is aviable. And yes, too few people read the README :s My two « centimes d'euro » On 5/3/07, Youness Alaoui [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: We can leave it as it is because the feature is SO immature right now, if M$ fixes their server, all our users will get bugs with spaces.. so it's either finish it, or remove it.. and finishing it, we cant' really do that until we can test... and putting a note in readme/installer.. lol, who reads that? :p I also think the feature is too early in development to be included in 0.97 and I would really like to remove it.. as Tom said, it's a nicety, not a necessity. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
new code in the spaces part just committed... we need to build a GUI now... and about the inline/ccard thing, I just had a great (I hope) idea... better than an advanced pref.. we could have a 'dock/undock' icon in the ccard, so when you open the ccard the first time, it shows the ccard and you see the dock button, you click on it, the ccard disappears and the spaces info appear inline in the CL... there you can again see the 'undock' button, click on it, all inline infos get collapsed and a ccard appears... I hope everyone likes the idea... we now have one function that we need to fill in order to build the GUI (drawing on a canvas), it's a single function that draws the same thing whether it's on a ccard or in the CL, so no double work to be done here... and we're almost done and we'll get 0.97 out and finally rest!!! I HOPE YOU'LL HELP ME ON THIS :@ :p come on guys! motivation :D c ya KaKaRoTo On Tue, Apr 03, 2007 at 11:11:48PM -0400, Youness Alaoui wrote: all we need to do is fix the last little tweaks with the skin and finish the MSN Spaces support.. it's simple.. and I just got it to work locally on fetching a picture (thumbnail + full size) from a photo album :) ) KaKaRoTo On Tue, Apr 03, 2007 at 10:56:37PM -0400, Youness Alaoui wrote: Removed : - Implement OIM support (task # 133878 and # 135637) (billiob/lephilousophe) (make sure it works behind proxies, make it work for non-tabbed-CW setting ) - Add a new skin icon for WinWriting incoming voice clips instead of WinWriting the button Changed : - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto) (make sure it works behind proxies, finish the UI) into : - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto) (finish the UI) New Complete 0.97 TODO : - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto) (finish the UI) - Finish the new Skin - Update FAQ... info... OIM support works good with HTTP proxy! :D now we need to make sure it works with SOCKS proxies too, then we can say that it's done.. currently, we don't have the code that takes care of removing a profile but keep the settings.. a 'forget me' means 'forget me', so it shouldn't remember some stuff... I think the most secure way is to just show a popup telling you where to go to delete profiles.. + it makes it a lot easier for you, so no more tricks for making it delete an account you already use, etc... + noone ever complained about it there being too difficult to reach, so it's a safe bet I think. p.s.: afaik, deleting a profile does a 'file delete -force $HOME' KaKaRoTo Okay, so just what exactly am I doing with forget me? Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO :: network settings ?
You have a very good point! we already have a 'connection' tab, with the port number there AND the test button.. the only thing that remains is ? the sentence 'you are firewalled' or 'your ports are well configured'.. so all we need to do is add that label in that frame and we're done, no ? also, it would be wise to finally change the 'port for file transfers' into something more like 'starting port for direct connections (needed for file transfers and webcam)' or something..I'm not a tech doc guy, so whoever things he has a better sentence! Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO :: network settings ?
autoproxy is very nice, but it doesn't work for https and does not include socks proxy, only http proxies.. all it does is to make sure that the username and password and Proxy-Authorization header is always added to the http requests... it 'does' use the registry for proxy config, only for windows though and not sure how good it is, all it does is get HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/ProxyEnable and HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/ProxyServer and HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/ProxyOverride the proxyOverride is supposed to be a list of hosts which should not pass through the proxy (like 127.0.0.1 for example) and there is no mention of the proxy's password.. oh.. I just saw that for non/win, it looks at the environment variable 'http_proxy' and 'no_proxy' (equivalent of proxyoverride) that's it.. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
Hey, good job, very well done billiob!!! I removed the item from the TODO (instead of your modify) because the 'job is done', now if anything comes up, it becomes 'bugfixing' instead of a feature/TODO item. Also, let's keep this thread clean, so feedback on this should be on a separate thread! so if you want, you can write on the older thread you had on the subject (there was one, right?) or create a new one(use old thread if exists). About OIMs and proxies.. yes and no.. so yes 'it should be fixed now' BUT 'no' because I never even tested it! I have no proxy to test with, so I just copy pasted code and I hope it works, that's it.. also, the code I did should work with proxies on HTTPS SOAP requests, but HTTP (msn spaces use http only) SOAP requests would still not be using the proxies.. and finally, I did (actually, I pasted) support for SOCKS and HTTP-POST proxies but I didn't implement it for the MSN HTTP Gateway proxy... this I know nothing about it.. Once it's done and tested and said to be 'in working order', we can remove the OIM from the TODO.. and we'll be really close to a release! :D By the way, did you notice any difference with the new implementation (now that tclsoap is removed) ? is it faster ? much faster ? farely fast enough ? not much ? I think it's much faster, but it's still slow enough for us to notice... what do you think ? anyways, keep it up, 0.97 is soon! :) KaKaRoTo On Tue, Mar 13, 2007 at 11:48:11PM +0100, Boris Faure (aka billiob) wrote: Modified : - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob) (Add the network config step and replace the 'configure webcam' button in the prefs) into - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob) Done, but i need some feedbacks :D If you're using linux and has a webcam, can you tell me if changing the state of the checkbox for low resolutions cams does resizing the preview image or not, cause i couldn't test it. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO :: network settings ?
I'm gonna answer here to be quick; Why is there a network step in the Webcam assistant ? From a user's point of view it doesn't belong there at all. Network settings are for aMSN as a whole. If you want the assistant to be more like a set up aMSN for usage assistant instead of for webcam/audio only, then it has to be called otherwise and not as Edit AV settings... from a menu. Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO
button.tcl doesn't have anything to do with %X %Y... I just looked and it seems the ::tk::ButtonUp { w } doesn't check for mouse position... instead it only checks if %W is equal to $priv(window) which is a global vars where it stores the last entered button.. in other words, on FocusOut it unsets $priv(window) so the buttonRelease has a if %W == which is always false, so no $w invoke is called... Should we do it that way (using yet another global variable) or use the %X/%Y calculation ? We should maybe do someting like bind Button1 handle_button_release %W %X %Y [list command to execute on bind] and have the handle_button_release {w x y command } { if { $x [winfo width $w] $y [winfo height $w] || $x 0 $y 0 } { return } else { uplevel eval $command } } - Add option to order contacts by status or not in the CL I added an option some time to ago to allow disabling of the sorting of contacts by status (away together, online together, brb together, etc..) in the same group, we never made that option available via the user interface...
