Hi Kathy,

For importing vendor data, Plz follow these steps.

1. Open BMC User tool.
2. Select the PDL:ESIDImportConsole form, and then click New.
3. Form will appear. Select an option for the type of data to import.
Select only one option at a time, in the following recommended order.

Version, manufacturer etc., as given order on form.

4. Click import data.
5. Once the import is complete, you can view or search the newly
imported data from the Definitive Software Library console.

Hope this helps...

Re: ITSM 7, Change Management - Risk level issue

2008-07-31 Thread ITSM Support
Hi Chowdhury,

You can create a collection of questions (risk factors) with answer choices
and predetermined risk values associated with each answer choice. Your
answers to these questions enables you to compute a more detailed risk value
based on a set of specific circumstances rather than simply choosing one of
the predefined risk levels. When you create risks, include all the questions
that your company needs answered to complete a change request

You can find this configuration form using ,

Application admin console - Custom Configuration - Change Management -
Risk Factors: - Change risk selection.

Re: Force Language settings to English

2008-07-31 Thread Tournier, Pascal
Hi thanks for your response,

Changing the locale to en_US in the User Preference records will
effectively force the language in English...

But assuming that there is one newly created user who is connecting ARS
via the Web. The user do not have yet one entry in the AR System User
Preference form. I create a workflow so that this entry is automatically
created when he get connected the first time and also set then the
locale to en_US. But this change will only be taken into account the
next time he is logging. Until then the language will still be the one
defined in the browser. So I assume that I should change that and
automatically create this entry in the User Preference when a new user
is created in the user schema ?

Furthermore, even if the locale is set to en_US for all user, when we
get access to the login page (login.jsp), this page is also set to the
one defined in the browser (French in my case) and I will also enforce
this page to be in English.

Do you have any idea on how to fix both problem ?

Thanks Regards

Pascal,

I am not sure what you meant by default directly on the server
itself... but I am sure that if you tried hard enough you could find
the JavaScript that the browser is using to determine the language
that the browse is using and then short cut it to always return the
right value for English.

However, I think a much more sustainable approach is to add User
Preference records for all of your users and set the Language settings
there. This way you maintain the data and do not have to much with the
vendor supplied code at all. ( And set your Mid-Tier to use the
preference server where your maintaining that data. I also have to
mention that I HOPE that the preference record setting would be used
over any browser detection value, but I have not verified that
behavior.)

Hope that helps.

How can I can interact between a Display only form and a Regular form

2008-07-31 Thread Tournier, Pascal

Re: Force Language settings to English

2008-07-31 Thread Carey Matthew Black
Pascal,

It should not be to hard to create an outer Join form between the
User form and the AR System User Preference form so that you can
do a one time back fill of any missing records. (And keep the join
around.. one time things tend to end up being handy more than once.
:) Then as you say you could add workflow (on submit to the User
form) that would auto create the AR System User Preference record.

As far as the Login page goes
I think the requirement is to always use a specific local. So ...
If you have already customized the login.jsp then I would suggest that
you simply break the look ups as you do not want to be tied to any
session variable changes that BMC makes in the future and you likely
already have your own look and feel that you want to use anyway.
(Which will likely not change at the same release cycle as BMC's patch
maintenance of the Mid-Tier. :) Or you might poke around in the
session variables and see if you can find where the local is being
set. Then simply override the value by hard coding it to the correct
string ( that should be a one line change ) and leave the rest of the
page alone.

I guess if you wanted to get really tricky... you might try this...
(But this may break the users ability to use any local other than
English even with a preference record change too.) Alter the mapping
of locals in the mid-tier_install/WEB-INF/classes/locale.properties
file. Or for that mater you could simply replace all of the
mid-tier_install/WEB-INF/classes/LocalizedMessages* files with the
content from the LocalizedMessages_en.properties file. (That should
prevent the system from having different strings for any standard
message for any locale that the user is using.) However, it may not
prevent the system from displaying OOB Application Error messages in
different locals. (But that my be ok... it all depends on your needs.)

Personally I think that overriding the Login page is the best idea.

I would even think that if you already have workflow that builds the
AR System User Preference at user login, then you could also present
the user with a message and tell them that they need to Login again
because their account was not setup correctly, but has been corrected
now. It seems like a small, one time price to pay. (or build the
workflow on Submit to User. Either should work. Some might find one or
the other more appealing.)

Maybe one of those ideas help.

Re: How can I can interact between a Display only form and a Regular form

2008-07-31 Thread Garrison, Sean (Norcross)
Some other things you might try in Remedy ... one is 7.0 or greater allow you
to do Events. Events can be passed to other forms in order to call workflow.
In the Help for you admin tool look under the section Workflow
Extras-Sending events between windows.

Also, if it is taking a long time to open your form then my guess is that you
have not set up pre-fetching for your form. This is configured on the
prefetchConfig.xml file in Remedy. Once the forms are cached they load very
quickly.

Doubt how to use Java API (arapi.jar)

2008-07-31 Thread Tadeu Augusto Dutra Pinto
Good morning,

I have many doubts about implementing AR System Java API (arapiXX.jar).

Currently, I'm working as AR System developer and now I have to integrate my
ARS Application with a service Java (which brings me client's datas when I pass
an information on an ARS form).

It looks like that: When I enter a value on Client's Name Field on my form and
press Enter, my Application will call Java API program that will access a
service (ex: getInfoClient() ) and will return the others client's information
that will fill other fields in my AR System fields (Form)...

Any suggestion of how I can do that?

I've already have worked in implementation of arapi API, but always creating
and/or modifying an entry... in this case I would like to SET some fields only
... without submit the record...

Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm using:
API Java: arapi63.jar
IDE Tool: Eclipse
AR Server : 7.0.01 Patch 7
AR Admin: 7.0.00 Patch 1
AR User: 7.0.00 Patch 1

Some other things you might try in Remedy ... one is 7.0 or greater
allow you to do Events. Events can be passed to other forms in order to
call workflow. In the Help for you admin tool look under the section
Workflow Extras-Sending events between windows.

Also, if it is taking a long time to open your form then my guess is
that you have not set up pre-fetching for your form. This is configured
on the prefetchConfig.xml file in Remedy. Once the forms are cached
they load very quickly.

In addition you might want to just try putting a message in the prompt
bar. On open window you can set a message in the prompt bar called
Loading Window ... please wait or something. Then create another to
remove the message after the last active link executes on Open Window.
It is very simple to do ... there is an active link type of Message
and one of the types is Prompt. It displays a message at the bottom
of the form.

Thanks,

Sean

Re: Question: Query Microsoft Exchange Address Book

What do you want to do exactly?

Many corporations that use Exchange are also using MS Active Directory.
If you set up the ARDBC/AREA plugins you can authenticate and pull
information back from there.

It's not advisable however to let the system do an automatic match on
name to find the email address however unless you are in a VERY small
organization.

We are using MS Active Directory and we use LDAP to authenticate.

I have created an email interface, however, the users what to be able
to pick users and or distribution groups from the Exchange list.

Currently the help desk sends email out via their Outlook on their

Pulling data from non-ARS database

2008-07-31 Thread Jackie Morris
Hi everyone-

I have a form that currently does a set fields using SQL to an outside
database. My system is on Oracle and so is the outside DB. I think we
use a DB Link. The query I use has FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the string to
identify where its going.

The information I am pulling is now moving to a MS SQL database and I am
not sure how to connect to it.

The information that I have found in the documentation seems to be
tailored to an ODBC connection for using Crystal or Access and the ODBC
is set up on the client.

This workflow will be executing on the server, so how do I connect to
the SQL db? If its an ODBC connection, then it must be on the server,
right?

Any help is appreciated!

To connect to a non Oracle database you can use the Oracle service
Heterogeneous Services.
Here is a page that describes the process:
http://www.orafusion.com/art_orahs.htm

I think you will have to install an ODBC driver on your Solaris server
for MS SQL. To do that you will ned to get freeTDS

Many corporations that use Exchange are also using MS Active Directory.
If you set up the ARDBC/AREA plugins you can authenticate and pull

It's not advisable however to let the system do an automatic match on

If you have the CMDB you also have a license for the Atrium Integration Engine.
There are connectors for this for both SQL and Oracle and they can connect to
remote databases to pull data as you suggest.

You may need to purchase the connector - I do not recall.

I don't know of a specific delete permission, but you could control it
with workflow.

Set permissions for the groups that you want to be able to view or change
(add). You can use a Filter to test the attachment field(s) as well as the
group making the change and issue an error to block it:

'Attachment-01' = $NULL$ AND 'DB.Attachment-01' != $NULL$ AND $GROUPS$ LIKE

(or NOT $GROUPS$ LIKE if more practical).

Business Time question

2008-07-31 Thread Gary Opela (Corporate)
I'm new to business time, but it looks pretty straight forward.

I am reading up on it, but thought I'd poll the list while I read (and took a
lunch).

I have a tmp field I'm setting on my help desk form when a ticket is created.
That field, called tmpResolution Time, stores the resolution time for the
customer, based on the severity. So, let's say for company A, for a severity
Low ticket, they have a resolution time of 480 minutes.

I have a field called Req Resolution Date/Time. This is a date/time field. I
have a filter that will set this field to the $TIMESTAMP$ + (tmpResolution Time
* 60), which will give me the resolved date. I need to, however, use Business
time to only factor in supported hours.

What command would I use to substitute the (tmpResolution Time * 60) part of
the equation above to only factor in supported hours. If the ticket was created
at noon, then I don't want to show 8PM as being the required resolved time, if
the support hours end at 5:00. It shouldn't be until 3 hours into the next day
that it shows.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Importing the Activity Create Date using arimport 6.3

2008-07-31 Thread keith23773
Hi

I am trying the import a csv file into Remedy using arimport6.3 but having
problems with the formatting of the Activity Create date which is a
date/time field. This is imported into the T:SPRT:Scanned Documents form
which is then pushed into the SPRT:Interaction Form to create an Activity.

The date format is correct on all the forms and the import file but randomly
we get an error message saying this is the incorrect format (DD/MM/
HH:MM:SS) even though the import file is correct.

Has anyone else experienced this or knows what the problem is. We are
finding it increasingly difficult to debug as sometimes it works and
sometimes it doesnt using the same saved mapping file??

Please Help!

Re: Business Time question

2008-07-31 Thread Gary Opela (Corporate)
Well, after reading some, it looks like I just need to do
Application-Bus-Time2-Add command.

I think that I will need to do a set fields to set Req Resolution Date/Time =
Application-Bus-Time2-Add $TIMESTAMP$ [$tmpResolution Time$ [Minutes
[$Organization$$Severity$]]]

The way I'm setting up the business time, is that each organization we support
can have a different hours of support based on the severity of the ticket.

So, for each org we support, we'll enter a bus time workdays entry with a
segment of OrganizationSeverity. So, if we supported Microsoft, and had
severities of Low, Med, High, we would have the following entries in the
Business Time Workdays form:

MicrosoftLow
MicrosoftMed
MicrosoftHigh

Then I can just pass the org and the sev to bus time calcs.

Does this look like it would work to you all?

Thanks,

Subject: Business Time question

Customized Mid-Tier login page

2008-07-31 Thread Gary Opela (Corporate)
I need to set up a customized login page for each of my companies that I
support.

I need them to be able to go to http://server/company/arsys to log in. The
server tag will be the same for all of the companies, I just need them to
each go to their own extension after the server info. Each company will have
a custom login page, with their own graphics and everything on them.

I see in the documentation it says the following:

Example 2: Login with customized login page
http://mid_tier_server/arsys/apps/ar_server/app/login.jsp?
goto=URLserver=server_name
The user logs in using a login page customized for an application, and then
goes to
the specified URL.
Any URL after goto statement must be URL-encoded.

This looks like they still have to go to http://serverarsys instead of
http://server/company/arsys. Do I just need to put an index.html file in
the http://server/company/arsys for each company that does a redirect to
http://mid_tier_server/arsys/apps/ar_server/app/login.jsp?goto=http://server/company/arsys/login.jspserver=server_name

Thanks...

Re: Can Client 5.1.2 be used while the ARS server has been upgraded to 7.1

2008-07-31 Thread William Rentfrow
I have to agree on this - don't do it.

A while back we had a customer with AR 4.x clients connecting to a 6.x
server - a few workstations got missed in an upgrade. One API call had
changed on the backend. Whenever a user did a certain specific search
the entire server went down immediately.

**
That is not a good idea at all. We found a number of issues with 7.0.0
patch 2 of the client on a patch 3 system, I am not sure what you would
get with a version that old.

If its an issue getting v.7 of the tool to your users, maybe move them
to the Web.

Re: Preventing attachment deletions

2008-07-31 Thread Tanner, Doug
Another approach if possible is to enhance the entire attachment pool

By using a table field to display attachments that are store in their
own table,

Then you can fire workflow based on who submitted, source (manual,
email, etc) and even what type of document

Also who can submit attachments, etc

You should always use the Admin tool that matches the version of your
server. User tool versions do not have to match the server version.

Assunto: Doubt how to use Java API (arapi.jar)

**

I'm using:

AR Admin: 7.0.00 Patch 1

View field on Mid-Tier

2008-07-31 Thread Gary Opela (Corporate)
I have a view field that I'm trying to use as a banner.
I set a tmp field to the url of a banner.bmp that is out on my webserver.

Then, I use a set fields to set the view field = $tmpbanner URL$

In the user tool, if I change from a submit window to a search window and then
back to a submit and a search again, then the banner will finally display. It
will not display at first like it should.
Also, when the banner finally does display, there is a whitespace between the
bmp file that it is loading and the top and the left of the view field, even
though the view field was smaller than the image it was loading.

Does anyone know how to fix the whitespace issue? I have already turned off

It works now. I had my active links that set the tmpBanner URL and the one that
set the URL running at the same EO.

I adjusted this, and now the view field loads fine.

The form on the mid-tier has a white background, so it's a non-issue that there

to be dynamic, so we're not always having to add more buttons and code with
each new company we support.

Now, I just have a form that stores my companies, there is a field on there
called Banner URL that we store a url to the banner bmp file on the webserver.

I then dynamically pull that across into the view field based on the company
the customer belongs to.

Now, if we have a new company, we just have to place the bmp file out on the
webserver for their custom banner, and then when we create their company entry
in the company form (actually called Organizations), we just have to put the
URL to the bmp file there.

Thanks,

**

I have a view field that I'm trying to use as a banner.

I set a tmp field to the url of a banner.bmp that is out on my
webserver.

Then, I use a set fields to set the view field = $tmpbanner URL$

In the user tool, if I change from a submit window to a search window
and then back to a submit and a search again, then the banner will
finally display. It will not display at first like it should.

Also, when the banner finally does display, there is a whitespace
between the bmp file that it is loading and the top and the left of the
view field, even though the view field was smaller than the image it was
loading.

Does anyone know how to fix the whitespace issue? I have already turned
off borders for my view field.

Ravi,

Why don't you just cut out the perl/java part of the process and
just create a view form over the table in the database? If it is in a
different database, you can create a database link. It seems to me
that you are duplicating work. It seems from what you said that you
are most likely just using that data as a look up by other forms. I
believe a view form would work well from what I can see.

Will migrating the ARS Perl code to JAVA API improve the

Crystal reports in client = broken

I can not get crystal reports to run in the client - this is quite
mysterious.

They used to work - this is AR 7.1 patch 001 with matching clients. I
have re-installed the client now numerous times.

When I try to run a report in the application (IM 7.03) I get a whole
bunch of nothing - the screen flashes for a second and then nothing else
happens. However, interestingly enough - my connection to the AR Server
is immediately broken. I have to log in to the user tool again to get
it to work.

Any ideas? I've checked all the standard config, etc (underscores and

Double-check that the AR System ODBC Data Source connection exists under
your data sources (usually found under Administrative Tools--Data
Sources (ODBC)). We've had a lot of instances in Windows where this
connection is not built properly even with a reinstall.

All that is generally needed is the server name and Use Underscores
checked. This is an individual system setting so may not be your
problem but is worth checking.

I've tried to replicate this without any luck. I tried doing a search

Have any of you run into this at all?

Also increasing the resource object validity time to a few days doesn't hurt..
It would mean that the client would use whats in the browser cache instead of
downloading form resources such as images etc..
On production environments you can either disable recaching or set recaching to
a high value of a few days assuming that not many changes are going to be
ported to productions too frequently.. there is always the Flush cache option
to manually flush the cache when objects in production change..

Subject: View field on Mid-Tier

**

I have already turned off
borders for my view field.

Thanks,

Toad is pretty good too..
I haven't used either toad nor sqldeveloper that frequently as I'm pretty
comfortable with sqlplus although it sucks to a certain extent.. I am not sure
if you can enable spooling on toad or sqldeveloper but I need that feature so
badly at times while developing sql scripts that I didnt care moving away from
sqlplus and finding out if that were possible on toad/sqldeveloper

Hi all - I have recently moved from working with an MS SQL server to having
Oracle as my db.  Is there a good gui client that I can download (hopefully
free) to see all the tables in the db and running basic sql commands?

Thanks!!

Yes, I am feeing a bit spoiled to lose Enterprise Manager.

Re: Crystal reports in client = broken

2008-07-31 Thread William Rentfrow
This may very well be the answer - I had double checked this earlier and
the people with problems did not have a preference record.

Make sure that the report server AND port are listed in the user's AR
User Preference form record. We had a similar issue and this fixed it.

I have to log in to the user tool again to get
it to work.

Any ideas? I've checked all the standard config, etc (underscores and
what not) - and I'm getting no where.
