Re: ARS v7.0.1P2 upgrade to ARS v7.5 P4 Failure

2010-03-04 Thread Rodriguez, Rafael J x23718
Susan we had the same issue when we upgraded from ARS 7.0.1P6 to 7.5 P2.

The issue is with the control table not being upgraded properly. You
MUST upgrade to 7.0.1P7 first, this will fix the control table and allow
the 7.5 upgrade. This was a bug that was fixed in patch7 of the 7.0.1
version.

Hi Everyone,

This was supposed to be pretty straightforward, we're only upgrading
(not overwriting) the ARS engine and email engine, nothing else. We've
started on our test server.

We've had about 5 failed installs as of today. It indicates that the
database is not the correct version. We confirm when we start that
we're at dbversion '22' and when the install fails we see the following:

Fortunately this issue SHOULD be very straight forward.

 Unfortunately - it isn't.

There's a button that calculates a person's period of eligibility to
make changes to their HR benefits, etc.  You enter their employment
anniversary date and hit the button and this performs a calculation:

 $My Date$ - 864000 (i.e., minus 10 days).

Here's the interesting thing - when the date entered is  Daylight
savings time - 3/15 this spring - the calculated value for the date
time field returns 3/4/2010 11:00:00 PM.  Normally all of the times in
this date/time field are left at 12:00:00 AM and are unused.

Technically speaking the calculation is EXACTLY correct.  3/4/2010
 11:00:00 PM is exactly 10 days before 3/15/2010 12:00:00 AM - because
3/15 has an extra hour added that is a figment of our collective
 imagination.
Technically DST doesn't happen until 2:00 AM though but that's a
 matter for another time.

I was thinking about changing the times on these to default to 3:00:00

ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues

2010-03-04 Thread patrick zandi
Hello,
I would like to know if anyone is having installation issues specifically
toward the admintool for 7.6.
We have seen zero bites availible issues, and other issues with running
through the complete installation questions, then it starts to install and
at about the 1.5% (1.2 bars) it hangs and does nothing. No errors in the OS
side, Nothing Obvious at all. I know I am dealing with a more hardend box
than most, because is seems to work on a home PC fine. Just wondering if
anyone else out there has this and has some methods of work around. We
contacted support and got the list of standard questions from a playbook,
but they have no clue. I will continue on my own, but just asking for the
sake of saving some time.

If it were Windows, I would recommend against it (primarily due to all the
host-specific crap in the registry), but with Solaris, I would think that
you're probably OK, so long as any OS settings related to the original VM are
updated for the new copy. You next main task then is to update the Remedy
config files ( ar.conf, etc.) so that they match the new host you're on as well
the new database you'll be using. If you're also copying the database,
depending on what apps you have installed, you may also need to do some data
cleanup after getting your Remedy services up and running on it.

It could reference production data if you do not check your workflow for
hard-coded references.. For e.g. if a Table field has got a hard coded
reference of Production data, it could look up the wrong server.. The same
could happen with other workflow, like Set Field etc..

Hi,

We are in the process of a new QA environment which should be a replica
of the production.

The approach we are trying to follow is image cloning. The servers are
virtual (VMs) and the OS is Solaris.

But we are not sure of the risks since it has not been done before.

Please somebody come up with suggestions, its very urgent.

It will be much appreaciated!

2010-03-04 Thread Joe D'Souza
Actually there were two threads I think, one of which was server group
config tables (ARS 7.1 patch04)

It discussed something almost specifically what you asked - copying one
environment to another which was a part of server groups.. Ignore the forms
related to the server groups discussed in that thread as those forms will
not be present on your server if you do not have server groups.. If you do
have them then that thread will be directly applicable to your case..

We have seen zero bites availible issues, and other issues with running

at about the 1.5% (1.2 bars) it hangs and does nothing. No errors in the OS

Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues

2010-03-04 Thread Decou, Candace M
Patrick - we ran into that exact same issue on 7.5 and it turned out
that we were installing on Windows 7 Server, 64-bit and it needed Patch
3 to install, but BMC also told us that for 7.5 the clients wouldn't
install on 64-bit machines, only 32-bit, so you may want to set up a
virtual XP environment or see if they have a patch for the install. Not
sure if this is the same problem, but it sounds just like what we
encountered.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help!

2010-03-04 Thread Lyle Taylor
First, so long as you get any server- and database-specific references cleaned
up in the config files, you're probably most of the way there. As Joe said,
there may be workflow that references a specific server, depending on what you
have installed. One example of that is AIE (or EIE, if you're using an older
version). It seems to me that the Approval engine also can generate workflow
that is server-specific. How much of that there is to clean up really depends
on what apps you have installed, or how you developed them.

As Joe said, I would search the list archives. I think there have been several
threads on the subject. They may be more along the lines of doing a database
restore from one environment into another. Unfortunately, I don't recall the
specific subject lines for most of the threads, however, I did find this one in
my notes:

Re: DB copy and restore with ITSM 7 - server name references

That was from 1/21/2009. There have been others as well, though.

Thanks for the information.

Do you think there might be risks like:

## Anyupdate in the QA environment might reflect on Production. I believe even
if it happens it can be taken care of from the configuration or DB..

Also let me know where I should remain focussed in case of probable risks.

updated for the new copy. You next main task then is to update the Remedy
config files ( ar.conf, etc.) so that they match the new host you're on as well
the new database you'll be using. If you're also copying the database,
depending on what apps you have installed, you may also need to do some data

I shouldn't see why this skill should pay any more or less than 7.5, if you
are looking for the same level of expertise as you would be on 7.5 as 7.6
has not too many changes from 7.5 (few new features). And 7.6 being just a
few months old, you would get someone who is fairly new to it anyways - in

Changing the Title Bars

2010-03-04 Thread kaylay
At the top of each form the title bar reads “BMC Remedy User – [Form Name
(Form Type)]”.

We want this to read “BMC Remedy User – UNCLASSIFIED SYSTEM [Form Name
(Form Type)]”

We know how to change the form names, and we know how to change the icon,
but we don’t know how to add or edit the title itself without adding it to
each of the form names. We can change the application labels, but our main
forms were created directly under the main User App. Is there a way to edit
the title bar itself, similar to how you would change the icon?

Can this only be achieved by editing the registry files?
What about adding an uncclassified pop up box requiring acknowledgement at
the Log In prompt? Same deal? Registry files?

Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues

2010-03-04 Thread Lyle Taylor
The installer is just a basic Java app, so I wouldn't expect hardening to be an
issue (I suppose it may depend on what was done to harden it, though). Is it a
32 or 64-bit machine? If it's 64-bit, that could be a problem. Otherwise,
what version of the Java JVM are you using? You should ensure that it is at
least a later version of 1.5 or 1.6.

Re: ITSM 7.6 Patch 1 - Can't Download

2010-03-04 Thread strauss
I grabbed it night before last... yesterday I installed it (fresh install) on
an ARS 7.5.00.004 server with Atrium Core 7.6.00.001 underneath - no issues
there (Win2K3 x64. I also patched an existing ARS 7.5.00.004 server with
Atrium Core 7.6.00.001 and ITSM 7.6.00 without issues (Win2K8 R2 x64). Unless
I am mistaken (I wasn't watching the progress bar closely enough) on a new
install it installs ITSM 7.5.01, patches that to 7.5.01.001, upgrades that
7.6.00, then patches that to 7.6.00.001, or something like that. On an
existing install it only applies the necessary patch.

We want this to read “BMC Remedy User - UNCLASSIFIED SYSTEM [Form Name

We know how to change the form names, and we know how to change the icon,
but we don’t know how to add or edit the title itself without adding it to
each of the form names. We can change the application labels, but our main
forms were created directly under the main User App. Is there a way to edit
the title bar itself, similar to how you would change the icon?

Can this only be achieved by editing the registry files?
What about adding an uncclassified pop up box requiring acknowledgement at
the Log In prompt? Same deal? Registry files?

2010-03-04 Thread Kemes, Lisa
Lucky for you this worked. It doesn't work for me because I need to keep the
time the same. (If someone wanted 3.15.2010 at 6:00pm, it has to stay that way)
The DATEADD Function is great, but it resets the time back to 12:00:00 AM.

I actually had to parse the data, set aside the time, add the days and then put
it all back together again in the end. Works well, but I hate all the extra
workflow.

Normally all of the times
in this date/time field are left at 12:00:00 AM and are unused.

I was thinking about changing the times on these to default to
3:00:00 AM instead of 12:00:00 AM - but I'm open to suggestions.

Re: ars 7.5 client / admintool - devstudio - Installation issues

2010-03-04 Thread Joe D'Souza
I think its more of a JVM issue. Do you have an old version running? I
remember I had a calculation issue of that sort once, but not quite sure
what I did to resolve it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I pointed JAVA_HOME
to a later version (1.5 or 1.6 as Lyle pointed out).

Even after that, the installer has a weird way of calculating remaining disk
space.. I've had issues on LINUX, where the installer would assume there is
no disk space remaining based on its calculations, and hence I had to open a
separate terminal and delete old temp files that were large so it could
recalculate, and continue with the installation..

2010-03-04 Thread Easter, David
Supported configurations are defined in the compatibility matrix.

http://www.bmc.com/support/reg/remedy-compatibility-tables.html

For AR System 7.5.00, the Remedy user client is supported on 32-bit XP, Vista
and Windows 7 desktop operating systems. It is not supported on 64-bit
versions of these desktop operating system. For users of 64-bit systems, the
web client should be used.

The Developer Studio is supported on the above operating systems as well as
32-bit or 64-bit editions of Windows Server (2003 or higher).

Developer Studio is only supported within a 32-bit JVM, even on a 64-bit
operating system, at this time. This may change in a future release.

Re: Changing the Title Bars

2010-03-04 Thread Joe D'Souza
To add to my previous post, you can have more than one form having the same
alias without any problems. The only pain would be looking the form up in
the User tool using the Form Open button on the user tool.. All the forms
with the same alias will appear with the same name and it will be hard for
you to differentiate them.. Functionally though it will work seamlessly from
my experience..

At the top of each form the title bar reads “BMC Remedy User - [Form Name
(Form Type)]”.

We want this to read “BMC Remedy User - UNCLASSIFIED SYSTEM [Form Name
(Form Type)]”

We know how to change the form names, and we know how to change the icon,
but we don’t know how to add or edit the title itself without adding it to
each of the form names. We can change the application labels, but our main
forms were created directly under the main User App. Is there a way to edit
the title bar itself, similar to how you would change the icon?

Can this only be achieved by editing the registry files?
What about adding an uncclassified pop up box requiring acknowledgement at
the Log In prompt? Same deal? Registry files?

Hello,
I would like to know if anyone is having installation issues specifically
toward the admintool for 7.6.
We have seen zero bites availible issues, and other issues with running through
the complete installation questions, then it starts to install and at about the
1.5% (1.2 bars) it hangs and does nothing. No errors in the OS side, Nothing
Obvious at all. I know I am dealing with a more hardend box than most, because
is seems to work on a home PC fine. Just wondering if anyone else out there has
this and has some methods of work around. We contacted support and got the list
of standard questions from a playbook, but they have no clue. I will continue
on my own, but just asking for the sake of saving some time.

Issue: Service Request Management 2.2 patch 003

2010-03-04 Thread Eli Schilling
Good day to all!

We are currently running SRM 2.2 with patch 003; upgraded from patch 001
about two weeks ago. Ever since the upgrade, the notes field does NOT
get populated in SRM:Request after a new case is submitted. Everything
shows up in the notes field on the Incident that gets created though.

Has anyone encountered this?

Thank you!

Refreshing the DB for ITSM 7.1.0

2010-03-04 Thread Shyam Attavar
Dear Listers,

I have a need to refresh the production database back onto a test environment
we are building. Since there have been quite a few customizations, we would
like to get to a point where we can start leveraging the Test environment
without having to individually migrate the customizations over.

If refreshing the DB from production environment is considered risky due to the
various notifications, escalations and approvals that might be pending, we can
even refresh from our development server.

Here's the environment:
ITSM 7.1.0 (except SRM)
ARS 7.1.0 Patch 6 running in a server group with four nodes on RHEL
Oracle 10gR3 RAC running on RHEL

Has anyone attempted something like this and has been comfortable with the
refresh process. I have done this in the past on ITSM 6.x running on Oracle. I
do realize exporting the ARADMIN schema from one instance and importing into
another instance would get me started. However, I am more concerned with the
data driven nature of ITSM 7.1.0 and there is more to the refresh process than
meets the eye.

I have never attempted this on ITSM 7.1.0 - hence my concern and posting to the
list.

Any words of advice, things to do, things not to do, things to watch out
for, or not do this at all.

Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Refreshing the DB for ITSM 7.1.0

2010-03-04 Thread Joe D'Souza
If you are on Oracle, you can export from Oracle using parity files (par
files) to tell oracle what you want to export..

Export all structures first, of the entire database. Then use these par
files to limit the export of data to only meta data and configuration data.

Import the structures first by creating and specifying import parameters in
these par files, and then import the data again by creating and importing
the exported data..

I have attempted this before and it works like a charm.. even cuts down the
whole export and import time from a few hours to a few minutes..
