after these errors, jboss server keeps working but my application fails to
start.

I am in urgent need of help here, as moving to 8.0 is critical for our
organization, that is ST Microelectronics.

Doug, we met you in Banglore and discussed this. Hope you are listening...

Hello,

Tells you that a jar file is missing, in particular, antlr.jar. If you've
followed the instructions, I guess the application doesn't work with that
version of JBoss or is missing the jar. You could download it and put it in
jboss/server/lib.

I've just downloaded the following and confirmed it has the class above:

Confused on use of Assignment Engine

2012-11-08 Thread jaya munjal
Hi List

As per my understanding Assignment Engine is used for auto User Assignment
based on load, skill availability etc and not for auto group assignment.

Group Assignment is based on configuration of Company, location, Prod Cat and
Op Cat. And even if we switch of Assignment Engine Group Assignment will
continue to work.

Please can you some help me understand the use of Assignment Engine.

Full Text Search search time

2012-11-08 Thread David Durling
ARS 7.5 on Solaris/Oracle: On a form with about 330,000 records, searching on
a small character field (for instance, Last Name) smith with no other
qualification might take 2-3 seconds. Say that field is indexed for FTS. If I
search as a user with FT rights, the same search takes 20-25 seconds.

Is that a normal performance difference? I have already rebuilt the indexes by
removing, then adding the fields back via Dev Studio. I thought FTS could
offer performance advantages or at least not be so much slower. This is the
largest number of records I've kept live at one time, so perhaps it's just what
I should expect? The reason we've kept it is for case-insensitivity.

Additionally, if I run even a semi-substantial report (say just on a month of
data), the search will timeout if I'm using a FT account.

Re: Show Applications List

2012-11-08 Thread Frank Caruso
This is what I received from BMC on this question:

Active Link guides are responsible for most of the entry points on the
HomePage. If you look at the form from Developer Studio and entry points are
not checked then it is invoked from Active Link guide.

If you want to remove links for all regular users, however Admins should still
need to be able to see it then you need to change the permissions on Active
Link Guides if entry point is set by the Guide. Else if its Part of Deployable
application then put that Application in maintanance mode.

For example Foundation Elements, AR Sample Application Console etc

e.g.

- From Developer Studio, Click on Applications. Locate the Remedy Foundation
Element
Right click and Edit Applciation.
- Under general tab, change the state to Maintanance. Save the application.

Note: If this is 7.6.04 ITSM or ARS, Make sure you are in Base Development
mode. Overlaying an application is not provided in Best Practice Customization
Mode in 7.6.04, however its available from next release i.e. 8.0. Also, there
is no adverse impact if you do it from Base Development mode.

2.
To Disable the link, find out the forms it invokes when you click the Quick
link and get the respective Active Link guides and change the permissions from
Public Visible to Publichidden.

e,.g. To disable the Analytics

Active Link guide for Analytics. (change it to Public Hidden)

ANA:Analytics:OpenURLGuide

For Approval Central, change the permission on following AL guide.( (change it
to Public Hidden)
)

AP:Pending Approvals - LoadView

Hope this helps.

the NTE-CFG-Notifications Events form is for system wide settings. Any

You are on the right track with updating Individual Notifications, you need

Re: CI's

2012-11-08 Thread Gordon Frank

One rule of thumb that I like to use is:

What does your business report on? What is important to the business?

To use Dougs example below, a smart telephone could be mapped to ~5-10 CIs. But
would you report or manage all of this information? Probably not.

You might just be interested in licensing and when is a smartphone obsolete.

Then again, you might be interested in OS upgrades, or does the phone have a
headset, or what is the replacement value, or what is the discounted value if
technology exceeds cost.

Or you might just want to have a count of who has phones? This is kind of a
funny because Doug doesn't have a smartphone. :)

The bottom line is that the CMDB has given you a blank slate and you need to do
the analysis to decide what makes sense for your company.

Analysis sometimes takes 4-5 passes. If you have legacy data, use it to do the
first pass. Legacy data will show trends and how you are currently reporting or
managing. Continued Improvement is the key goal.

Hope this helps,

Gordon

Lisa,

You can map things to wherever you want.  The spreadsheet you are referencing
is just a set of guidelines

that we have found being best practice.

The key would be the thing to the class with a recommendation on type.  Product
Categories are much less

critical and vary much more widely.  Change those as makes sense for your org
(but be consistent within

your org).

Now, on the phone example…

A telephone (old, hard-wired device) and a cell phone are RADICALLY different
devices.

The cell phone is a full fledged computing device that can have internet
access, computing capability, storage,

and many more things.  It is a network addressable device.

A telephone is none of those things.  It is just a box.

Now, if you have telephones that have computing capability, they really should
be ComputerSystems too and

not just equipment.  The key here is the very different capabilities and needs
for and uses of the device.  Yes,

it is a pain that these are different classes.  Where are you headed – toward
smart devices as telephones or

toward dumb boxes?  Maybe you should consider modeling them all as
ComputerSystems (even the dumb

ones) if the direction is smart phones just so that all phones are in the same
class?  Something that is

reasonable to consider.  But, I would resist having cell phones as just
equipment unless you are completely

ignoring their computing capability and treating them as just dumb phones for
the purposes they are in your

CMDB.

You've answered my main question (do I HAVE to force my CI's to use only the
Product Categories in the spreadsheet?) but, I will use the existing
Classes.

Should I try to follow the spreadsheet suggestions as much as I can (when it
comes to CI's and Classes)?  For example, on the spreadsheet the Telephone
CI is under the Equipment class, but the Cell Phone CI is under the Computer
System class.    These are just suggestions correct?  If I wanted to put cell
phones under the Equipment class, that wouldn't hurt anything would it?

Lisa,

Welcome to the wonderful world of mapping….

I have an x, where do I put it, what do I call it, how do I identify it, how do
I name it, how do I ?

It is not a simple task.

You seem to have the document that is available with some suggestions of where
to map things.  It cannot

include everything and to some degree, there is a decision you need to make
about what you want to do

and how you want your data represented.

Let's take a look at the different decisions you need to make.   Note, that
they are a series of decisions that

build on each other but that are relatively independent of each other at the
same time.

First, what CMDB class should be used.  This is the first decision whenever you
have a new thing.  I have an

X and what class should I use (or do I need a custom class)?  Generally, you
should find a class that exists and

is appropriate for the object.  Only create a custom class if you really have
something that doesn't fit.

So, let's take this example, what class does it go into?  Well, it is pretty
clearly something

Multiple ARSystem databases on one database server

2012-11-08 Thread Drew Shuller
Hello everyone,

There is plenty of documentation about moving an ARSystem database from one
database server to the other. But what do you need to do if that database
server already contains a database called ARSystem?

We are considering two options: either create a new instance so that we can
keep using the ARSystem name for both, or we rename that database, after
moving the database files over.

Is either option better than the other? Are there any showstoppers to doing
it one way or the other?

Re: How to restrict wild card searches

2012-11-08 Thread Mueller, Doug
Vishal,

I am curious why you use the syntax you are using

'field' LIKE %[^a-zA-Z0-9]%

This will error on space or any special character or any number of other
conditions.

If you want to just disallow wildcards, there are only a couple of them. I
assume the things you are
worried is really the % character.

Why not

'field' LIKE %[%]%

Note that the % sign should not be a wildcard as it is within the [] construct
which says to treat things
inside it as characters.

This says to match when there is a % in the value.

Now, you could add other specific characters as well within the test if you
cared to (like match any single
character or even the [ in case someone wanted to try a set of characters] but
is that really necessary? Isn't
it just the % that is the issue?

Now, if you wanted to keep what you have and just allow space in addition, just
add a space in the set of
characters.

'field' LIKE %[^a-z A-Z0-9]%

Notice that I put a space between the a-z and A-Z. That should include space
as a character in your set of
characters.

NOTE: Both of these comments are how this should work and how I expect it to
work. I unfortunately am not
at a place where I can test things at the moment, but this is the way things
are supposed to work.

Re: Multiple ARSystem databases on one database server

2012-11-08 Thread strauss
If the server hosting SQL Server 2008 is powerful enough (mainly RAM), it is
fairly easy to add another instance of SQL Server to host a second ARSystem. I
did this on my current production SQL Server while doing the migration from
7.1/7.0 to 7.6.04 last year so that I could host an upgrade instance and a new
install instance side by side. Once we got 7.6.04 into production, we turned
off the second SQL Server instance and increased the resources for the
production SQL Server.

Anything that causes you to use a different name for the ARSystem database will
always make it harder to restore that db to another server and ARS instance.

Drew,
Sorry to provide you with conflicting information, but at my last job our
production DB was named 'ARSystemProd' and we routinely renamed the DB on
restore to other environments, in fact all environments were named differently,
and NEVER had any issue with it, in fact all of our dev (4 in total) were on
the same DB server and instance with 4 different names, and our test instances
were the same, having 4 different remedy db's in the same instance and never
had a lick of problems with the setup. So unless you have an over abundance of
resources and just want to go through the hassle of standing up another
instance on an existing server, I would personally just use another name on the
same db server.

Receiving conflicting advice from both Dr. Strauss and LJ means that either
way works just as well. Six one way, half a dozen the other. :-)

Assuming that I create a new instance (we're running a virtual server), I
would need to modify the af.cfg file so that the Sybase-Server-Name
contains both the database server name and the instance:

Sybase-Server-Name: SQLServer\MSSQLSERVERInstanceName

It seems like I've seen this before and it works, but I'm just checking.
The server will be able to find that instance?

Assuming that I create a new instance (we're running a virtual server), I would
need to modify the af.cfg file so that the Sybase-Server-Name contains both the
database server name and the instance:

Sybase-Server-Name: SQLServer\MSSQLSERVERInstanceName

It seems like I've seen this before and it works, but I'm just checking. The
server will be able to find that instance?

Rafael,
It is my understanding that at some point in the past, when you told Mid-Tier
to flush, it would clear the cache, and then immediately start the re-cache
process per the configured processes. Then at some time during the 7.6.04
versions, this stopped working properly, and a flush did nothing other than get
rid of the cache, but did not re-cache anything. It's possible that with the
SP4, they re-fixed the issue to make it start caching again, which would
explain why it becomes unavailable for awhile.

2012-11-08 Thread Jason Miller
Would it be better to turn caching off in the development environment? We
have done this in the past as well as currently we set our cache to check
every 60 seconds for development environments (CTRL/Shift +

seconds
for the change to show up. There are some types of changes that still seem
to need a full flush (in-line form changes, etc.) but by using this
configuration we do not have to flush nearly as much as we had to in the
past.

Using Change Process Flow without Templates

2012-11-08 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Good afternoon,

I wanted to see if anyone had found a way to use Change Process Flow records
without using specific Templates. In the 7.0.3 I was able to simply use
Approval Process Configuration records to bypass phases that aren't needed. It
looks like in 7.6.04 you have to select a Process Flow on the Status Flow tab
but that limits the Approval Process Configuration to be triggered only when
that Change Process Flow is involved.

Without a customization, do you all know of any way to be able to have a
different default process flow by company?

Thanks,

Re: How to restrict wild card searches

2012-11-08 Thread Givens, Gregory CTR NPC, Pers 54
Vishal,

Doug is correct
'field' LIKE %[^a-z A-Z0-9]% will allow users to search for a string with a
space character.

You are restricting a lot more than just wildcards
If your intent is to only allow ALPHA NUMERIC (and spaces) in your searches
then that will do it.
Keep in mind though, you're blocking searches on commonly used special
characters like @':.,#-
Searches for Its won't find It's and ' isn't one of your allowed characters.

Hi Greg,

For restricting the wild card character on field level we had created the
Active link which will fire on search mode .

The qualification is : ((('Description' LIKE %[^a-zA-Z0-9]%) OR ('Resolution'
LIKE %[^a-zA-Z0-9]%)) OR ('Detailed Decription' LIKE %[^a-zA-Z0-9]%)) OR
('Incident Number' LIKE %[^a-zA-Z0-9]%)

If we are giving wild card character for searching on fields (Notes , summary ,
resolution and Incident ID) , it will throw an error .

However this Active link is also firing when we are giving space on fields like
(Notes , summary , resolution and Incident ID).

We don't want to fire this active link when any user will give space .

Do you know how to a resolve this?

However, doing just that will not stop wild cards in the advanced search bar.
To stop that from being allowed you will need to add a character field to the
form and give it a field ID of 1005
Then create a Active link with
Execution Options - Search
Run If Qual - ('1005' LIKE ((% + [%]) + %)) OR ('1005' LIKE ((% +

Is there a reason you don't simply have Splunk configured to monitor the

2012-11-08 Thread strauss
My 7.6.04.03 dev server's local mid-tier is set to Pre-Load (normally left OFF
on a production server), and the Cache Settings are:

0 with Perform check selected (THIS VALUE MUST BE 0 FOR DEVELOPMENT CACHE MODE)
0
300
Enable Cache Persistence checked

I _believe_ that this is set up as documented for a mid-tier against a server
in Development Cache mode, but I set it up in early 2011 and have not needed to
change it. I recall David Easter pointing us to the mid-tier cache setting
docs well over a year ago... there may have been more than one source.

Re: ARS 8.0 Midtier using Tomcat 6 and ISS

2012-11-08 Thread Ortega, Jesus A
I had issues with 7.6.04 SP3 MT and IIS 7.5, under Windows Server 2008 R2. I
had to make sure to download the latest 64 bit ISAP_Redirect.dll from Apache.
After doing so, I had to do the following:
- In Server manager, Roles, Web Server, I had to add two roles for Web Server:
ISAPI Extension, Isapi Filters. This does not come set up in the
standard build in IIS 7.5. I think this is why most people have problems with
ISAPI.
- Under application pool and under advanced settings and set Enable 32 bit
Applications = False
- Go to the Default Web Site, Edit Isapi Filters, give the filter a name (like
Jakarta), browse for the Isapi_redirect.dll that you downloaded.

I think this may apply to MT8, but I am not 100% sure. It does certainly apply
to IIS 7 and up. My IIS server works like a charm now.

Microsoft IIS offers no benefit in most deployments of Mid Tier. Your
deployment would be far less complex without it, using Tomcat directly, which
is all IIS Is doing. The mod_jk connector is now a decade old and has been
(sort of) deprecated by other modules (mod_proxy_ajp) for the Apache web server.

Hi,

the NTE-CFG-Notifications Events form is for system wide settings. Any changes
here affect all users.

You are on the right track with updating Individual Notifications, you need to
have the correct permissions to update these. Try Contact People Admin and
Contact Support Admin.

Cheers

Carl

Hello,

I do not know how to modify the NTE :CFG-Notification Events for some users
that would like to be notified only if incidents are assigned directly to them
and not if assigned to one of theirs groups.

I suppose that I have to set Individual Notification=Yes and Group
Notifications=Non in the NTE :CFG-Notification Events

From the CTM :People form I try to open : Update notification Preferences. I
can modify the values but I cannot save them.

Can someone tell me how to proceed, if possible.

Best Regards

Lidia

Crystal Report Licensing

2012-11-08 Thread Brittain, Mark
Hi All,

I need to know the license requirements for the Crystal Report server to use
with ITSM 7.6.04 OOB. If I create a report in the Report Console, set the
report type to Crystal and save. As far as the Crystal report Server is
concerned who just created the report?, Remedy or mbrittain?

In case it makes a difference I have two AR Servers in a server group and two
load balanced mid-tiers.

If anyone has some general guidelines or a good reference that would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

If you want the link to sign up to test the Remedy documentation, it's
https://communities.bmc.com/communities/message/278689. I think the link Anne
provided was for testing the BladeLogic wiki. This is a great opportunity to
point out some of the difficulties you all have encountered. I know I'll be
signing up.

Thanks, Anne!

Re: Real Number Format Issue

2012-11-08 Thread Allan See
Thanks for your inputs.

Im testing to use a character field and filter it first and pass it to a real
number field to limit the decimal places. Hopefully this will be a better
approach for this problem.

don't have to re-index it again :S

Re: ARS 8.0 Midtier using Tomcat 6 and ISS

2012-11-08 Thread Brian Pancia
What version of Tomcat and Java were you running? I tried the same exact
steps a number of times and still couldn't get Tomcat 7.0.32 and IIS 7.5
working right. I tried the isapi-redirect 1.2.37 with no luck.

Subject: Re: ARS 8.0 Midtier using Tomcat 6 and ISS

I had issues with 7.6.04 SP3 MT and IIS 7.5, under Windows Server 2008 R2. I
had to make sure to download the latest 64 bit ISAP_Redirect.dll from
Apache. After doing so, I had to do the following:
- In Server manager, Roles, Web Server, I had to add two roles for Web
Server:
ISAPI Extension, Isapi Filters. This does not come set up in the
standard build in IIS 7.5. I think this is why most people have problems
with ISAPI.
- Under application pool and under advanced settings and set Enable 32 bit
Applications = False
- Go to the Default Web Site, Edit Isapi Filters, give the filter a name
(like Jakarta), browse for the Isapi_redirect.dll that you downloaded.

I think this may apply to MT8, but I am not 100% sure. It does certainly
apply to IIS 7 and up. My IIS server works like a charm now.

Bryan

Microsoft IIS offers no benefit in most deployments of Mid Tier. Your
deployment would be far less complex without it, using Tomcat directly,
which is all IIS Is doing. The mod_jk connector is now a decade old and has
been (sort of) deprecated by other modules (mod_proxy_ajp) for the Apache
web server.

Re: [EXTERNAL] Want to give feed back on docs changes?

2012-11-08 Thread Paul Zinn
Thanks, Natalie (and Anne).

Actually, there's just one user test. Deborah posted the call for volunteers in
multiple product communities because we're looking for users who specialize in
different BMC products to test a few aspects of docs.bmc.com. After getting the
publicity here I'm sure we'll get more than enough Remedy folks ;-), so if your
company uses other BMC products please also pass the word to your counterparts
who work with BladeLogic, ProactiveNet, Cloud Lifecycle Management, etc...

Thanks,
