Question on Remedy replication to DR

2014-04-25 Thread Dee
Hello List,

SRDF = Symmetrix Remote Data Facility
DR = Disaster Recovery

I asked this questions maybe 2 years ago, but I presume no one at the time was
doing SRDF.

So, here I am again.

We current DataGuard Replication between or production and DR ARSystem
environment on UNIX with Oracle DB, local.

Our DBA, is pushing for us to more to SRDF.

Is anyone doing SRDF?
Have you encountered any issues you would like to share?
How do you handle SRDF in upgrade?
How do you handle SRDF in fail over to DR?
Do you replicate the entire prod server to DR?
Why SRDF or DataGuard Replication?

2014-04-20 Thread DEE

Hello Jesus,

Running ARS 8.1.00.002 201308272305Hotfix on unix 7.1.

I found this KB:KA391722
Title: Having trouble with vendor form in 8.1. The ARS 8.1 ARSYS.ARDBC.LDAP
java
plugin does not discover same objects or fields (attributes) as C plugin version
Solution: Disable to javaplugin and reload the c-plugin.
Per the KB, Documented as defect SW 00449118
This lead to error, in the java plugin stderr log, But ofcourse that lead to,
log4j:ERROR No output stream or file set for the appender named [null].
Which, per John's response, I
It probably means it's not loading a password and the NullPointerException is
from the String constructor. It's poor coding, ie.
char[] c= retrievePasswordAsCharArray();
// Forget to check if c is null
String password= new String(c);

if true we are back to the original problem, the ldap parameters including the
password in not loading with c-plugin.

I just got a response from BMC, They can confirmed that I should try KA391722
, and send results. basically they are lost too.

We are configured to the default , which is listening.

I'm going to send the response to BMC. I turned on the debugging on *.xml
config, this will hopefully give them something to work with.

However, Applying KA above, seems to have resolved the WUT plugin error, from
this post.

Dee, What version are you running? If it is AR System 8.1.x, read on.

There is a bug in the 8.1.x that causes too many TCP connections to open, in
the
thousands, and causes plugins to start failing in such a way as you are seeing.
Our LDAP was the first to go, then ARDBC, and so on. I had to get a hotfix from
BMC L2 to fix the issue. The hotfix affects arserver.exe,
arapi81_build001.dll\jar
and several other files. It is a pain to install in all the places that
arapi81*
lives, but it did stop the plugins from crashing. This may not or may not be
your issue, but I was getting similar errors in my plugin log file. Again, this
is a 8.1 bug. If you are on Windows and want to see if your plugin ports are
active and listening, open a command prompt on your server and run netstat -ao
|find /i listening. If you don't see 9555,9956, 9977,9998,and listening,
that means your ports are down and you will have to reset the plugin server by
ending the java.exe process that it runs under. It will restart immediately.
If
you suspect this is an issue, call BMC and tell them you may have defect #
SW00450386. This affects 8.1.0 - 8.1.1 (SP1).

Thank longwing,

that was the first thing I checked, if the upgrade deleted that entry. But the

I have applied Knowledge Article ID: KA391722,

But ofcourse that lead to, log4j:ERROR No output stream or file set for the

So i'm waiting BMC to verify that KA above is the solution.

Thank for responding.

Yes , adding a set field will enforces order of operation; therefore it works -
the thread are visible in midtier; but now that leads to time-out during

has not responded RPC 1832-008 ARERR 9940) on the WUT tool. Which I'm fine with

But comparing the 8.1 workflow to 7.5 workflow ---they are exact.

So issue is what plugin / mechanism in the background that enforces order of
operation when, set field has 2 actions and whether this is failing other places

I will try the upgrade 8.1.01; this issue could be wide spread.

Thanks for sharing this! This happened to our dev server last week. I just
thought one of us messed up the config file and removed the ports. It took a
little while to find it. A user was building new web report and the reporting
plugin kept timing out. I wasn't expecting to find all those lines missing
form the ar.cfg file :)

I have seen the similar issue. Any time you make changes and commit in Admin
Console in midtier it is actually deleting all the threads in ar.conf
And the server will end up running the default admin thread upon next restart.

It has been fixed in the 8.1SP1.
If you are not interested in upgrading, the fix is very simple.
Just change an ActiveLink SetField fields into different setfield actions.
ActiveLink name -- AR System Administration: Server Ports - Parse1

Hello Laurent/Mikhail

Did either have a solution for this error

__
I think that the classic notification alerts should work in 8.1.

In aralerts.log I see **Error (22) in binding send socket for address

When I set *Alert-Outbound-Port: 50005* in ar.conf, then in aralert.log
there is the same error **Error (22) in binding send socket for address
:50005**.

Subject: Remedy, OpenSSL, and the Heartbleed bug

**

Everyone,

I am sure that most if not all of you have seen the reports in the media about
the security bug (called the
Heartbleed bug) that has been found out on the internet.

Some details:

OpenSSL is the source of the bug. It is a technology used for encryption.

The AR System environment uses this technology for password encryption and to
encrypt the data as it flows
across the wire.

The issue was introduced in version 1.0.1 of OpenSSL (released March 2012) and
is present in 1.0.1 and 1.0.1a
through 1.0.1f of that product. There is a corrected version that was released
April 7, 2014 that corrects the
error.

The error is NOT present in the 0.9.8 or 1.0.0 versions of the product.

The AR System uses the 0.9.8 version of the OpenSSL libraries. We have gone
through the build trees to
confirm this for versions 7.6.04, 8.0, and 8.1 and the service packs and
patches for those releases. For all
of them, we are using the 0.9.8 version.

This means that the AR System, its plugins, its applications, the CMDB, the
API, and etc… is not affected by
the Heartbleed bug and there is no action you need to take on your environment.

BMC is investigating all of the products it ships to check which ones of them
may have issues due to this
bug. There will be a formal announcement in the near future of BMCs exposure
and the remediation
plans for any exposure found. This will include the official announcement from
BMC about the
AR System environment.

I just wanted to share the information with this list as soon as it was
confirmed that there was no issue
with the Remedy product line.

Weird one: Select string being process continously

2014-02-27 Thread Dee
Hello List,

Production -- 6.1.7 UNIX with ARS 7.5 Patch 4 on Oracle 11.2.0.3, all local.

the server/app/db can handle the load. the issue is that we are consuming 80%
entitlement.

Yesterday, our application hosting group reported high cpu utilization on
server. we have 2 cpu entitlement, 12 gb.

the weird part:
user A , yesterday ran this query = SELECT C1,C4,C3,C1,C60046,C6
FROM T72 WHERE C1 IN ('004338508')

- but the query is now in a loop. it seems that as the user that is running
the query logout/timeout, the query captures the next incoming user to execute.

the dba cannot kill that process, because it the run/executing and close - very
fast. So the issue is not a hung query against the DB. However, they kill some
other processes, that seem to have eliminated the respawn of that query. I'm
waiting on the dba to tell us what he saw/tried killing - that resulted in
stopping the loop.

per the dba , that query has ran 40,000 times against the db. The current user
that has been logged - the query has executed 19,000 times with that id.

what cause the query to go into a loop?

Resolved: Upgrade ARS to 7.5P4 to 8.1.00 Errors

2014-02-19 Thread Dee
Hello,

BMC can back with a solution. The DB was not corrupted, at this time.

Solution: KA402449
https://communities.bmc.com/search.jspa?q=8.1+Arsystem++Upgrade

Basically, this table exist in actlink_group_ids_UPG 7.x with only two colunms
and no indexing. In 8.1.00, additional columns are being add and indexing, so
then now has duplicates and cannot be indexed.
- make copy of table
- add index
- rerun installer

gist!!!

Other errors pop up, but the installer ran upgrade successfully after this.

Thanks so much for help!!!

What can the Email Engine do?

I'm hoping you can guide us,

We are configuring the email engine for the first time, however, we would like

1. Application A send to the Remedy mailbox an email to open a incident

2. On open of that request, Remedy sends the status/incident number/etc to

3. In Remedy the incident is updated, Status change/Support Personnel
Change/Work Description/Severity/ etc, this change is updated in Application A
4. In Application A, the incident is updated, Status change/Support
Personnel Change/Work Description/Severity/ etc, this change is updated in
Remedy.

How does the mailbox handle, storming event in the mailbox? Requests to open
and update multiple events in parallel?

We are upgrading to 8.1.00 Email Engine which will be configured against 2010
Outlook mailbox.
8.1.00 Patch 2 ARS on UNIX 6.1.7 On 11G, with 8.1.00 Patch 2 Midtier on

- 11g

If a change is made to form or active link/menu, inorder for the change to
reflect in the 7.6.04 sp5 MT, on the old 7.5 Patch 4 MT env, just clearing
the cache via the loadbalance, and changes would reflect.

Now, with the 7.6.04 Sp5, we have to clear to the cache at bigip/ each http
server/ delete the cache from IE browser and close the browser and reopen.

(unfortunately, 7.6.04 Sp4/3 - had logging issue so cannot say is this
function well at that version).

If you find a solution, please post.

Active links to change menu on field is not working

2013-09-25 Thread DEE

Hello Everyone,

Environment:
BIGIP (F5)
2 servers -Websphere 6.1 http cluster on UNIX 6.1.7
2 servers -Websphere 6.1 jvm cluster on UNIX 6.1.7
1 server -ARS 7.5 Patch 4 with local 11g DB on Unix 6.1.7

We have a custom change form that include the following fields

Change Category
Change Item

Based on your change category selection, an active link with load the
appropriate menu to Change Item. It was reported yesterday that this function
is not working. Now this has been functioning fine for the last 7 years (when I
inherited Remedy).

Points:
1. This is not happening with Admins
2. This is happen for non-admin users.
3. At first it seems like it was only affect non-admin users with floating
licenses, but a second test of users dispel that symptom
4. This is occurring in the User tool (7.6.04 Sp3) and MT (7.5.000 Patch 004)
5. This is occurring in browsers, IE8, FireFox 23.0.1, Chrome 29.0.1547.76
6. Initially thought it was a MT issue, flushed cache etc.
7. This is not occurring in our test environment, User tool (7.6.04 Sp3) MT
(7.5.000 Patch 004) / MT (7.6.4 SP5) ARS 7.5 Patch 4

We have not made any changes to the production environment. the workflow, the
menus was modified at least 2 weeks ago.
Per the webadmins, no change the web sphere infrastructure.
Window 7 desktop was recently patched, however, I tested on a machine that did
have the patches in the last 2 weeks applied, issue exist there, too.
(working on talking to DBA, if something on the oracle 11g db changed)

The issue is haphazard,

for my test id, non-admin,
All menus loaded, except one menu that is very large (Large enough to be a
form; unfortunately process and ownership issue)
- the workflow for that particular activelink, does not get calculated.

for my co-work, remedy admin also,
None of the menus load. He describes the default CHANGE ITEM menu, if the only
one that is loading.
- which indicates that the workflow for the active link in not working.

What could causes active links, not to fire correctly?

Re: Active links to change menu on field is not working

2013-09-25 Thread DEE

This is what I have found,

All the active links that are doing a Change menu, based on selecting a
CATEGORY then the appropriate Menu is attachment to ITEM, seem to be corrupted.

On modifying one of the Active Link, I got the following error of
missing/removed group id 47, 107, 119. (See attachment).

To combat this i'm recreating the active links, and this is resolving the
production issue (at the moment).

However, these groups never existed as far as i know. The workflow is the same
on test (copy of production) and groups. Groups are not deleted ( verified by
admin).

So, what could have corrupted these specific active links, and not others? why
is it looking groups that don't exist?

(any hint would be great).

Re: Active links to change menu on field is not working

2013-09-25 Thread DEE
Thank you Doug.

It had to be manual because not all was corrupted, only 10 of 15, didnot know
which ones had the issue.
I kept the old as record, and made notes in the Change history of each changed,
and tracked with Service tickets. We get audited for change alot; so document
document.

Agreed, the groups in question - there is no record of them every existing. The
administrator who managed this has been doing this since we had Remedy version
2 coming forward. He does not remove groups; actually single source.

This workflow have been in the system since 2005, last modified for most so
before me i start in 2007. We are not sure what happen at the time a customer
reported the issue of the menus not loading correctly. I just happen to try
recreating one active to resolve the issue and happen on the group errors. No
import to modify the active link was done, however, within the last 2 weeks
menus loaded by the actives link was either imported/modified on fly.

Our test environment mirrors production, with the same workflow (these are
processes that have not changed in a very long time). At the very least test
has more workflow for new fields and processes; but group info don't change
much.

The groups list in the corrupted active links, still exist today in all
environments. its if i try to find 47, 107, 119 - which i see no reference
anywhere. Per my co-worker, groups are not deleted. And , Yes, all users of
Change have access to the activelinks. Same amount on permission, these active
links average out with 70 attached permissions. This is inherited because as I
develop - they really only need one group Change permission to access those
fields which is how i recreated..

I thought of that, that not same name but same ID for the group, but in this
case test and prod are most similar. Looking at the groups form, there are 3
new groups not in test; none with the ids being flagged in the error. 2 groups
that are the same, only license allocation being manipulated. Only 5 modified
year to date for production.

As you say, I presume they may have existed before; but no record.

(side track) - We had an ongoing issue since 2009 (3 cases with BMC, no
solution) on the same form for attachments on the MT, non-admin on create the
initial attachment is not appended to the record. I alway thought is was
permission issue also. Well this week, that miraculously resolved it self also
on test/prod.

So, I have 2 mysteries,

Is there a scan that can be ran - to check all workflow and fields for group
errors?

Dee,

If you have not finished modifying the active links, please export the existing
definition of ones you are
modifying and then modify them. So, you have a record.

When you have an active link (or anything with permissions), you can define
permissions, but they have
to be to legal, actual groups that exist. You will get errors if you assign
permissions to a non-group.

BUT, if groups change (are deleted for example), we do not invalidate existing
definitions. They just keep
working with the group that is not valid being ignored. So, you have a
definition in your system which has
an error in it that we ignore.

If you later open the definition and then try and save it, the system notes
that you have groups referenced
that don't exist and it removes them as it will get an error on save. It gives
you the warning you are seeing
in the message to let you know that it is doing this cleanup. Then, the save
happens with no problem.

So, the system is doing the cleanup automatically but warning you of the
permission issue it is fixing.

By the way, import has an exception that it allows bad groups as it assumes
you just haven't gotten around
to importing them yet. So, again, you can get permissions that exist on a dev
box in the definition but those
same groups don't exist on prod so if you modify the def on prod you could be
seeing warnings about dev
groups referenced that you never moved to prod.

Now, none of that should be related to the logic not working. Unless people
are in different groups on dev
and prod – like the missing 3 groups called out here?

Why I wanted you to save the definitions before fixing them was to see what the
permissions were. Do
your users have access to the active link? Are there permissions other than
these three groups that do give
the users access or is there some kind of a group mismatch between dev and
prod? Remember, you may
be seeing the same name as we show names in the UI, but if the ID behind the
scenes for the groups is
different on dev and prod, they are really different groups as we match
everything on the ID even though
we show you the name.

Those groups did exist somewhere at some

Re: iPad App

2013-03-05 Thread Dee
Andy,

We tried acquiring BMC Mobile app early last year/end of 2011; but at the time
was not mature to handle a customized environment not the itsm suite. We don't
even use approval engine; as I think our change systems was prior to that. That
being said about our state, what we did, was using webservices, php and ios
webkit.jquery we built an mobile interface to that does limited processes like,
place an incident in progress/closed a request, a dash board of tickets based
on sla's, and dashboard for change. We are looking a adding phase 2, re-assign
requests and create request for Service managements. For change we will leave
to dashboard, because of nerc, serc, ferc, sox, and other compliances. No
attachments are viewed via this method, also. We use bigfix mdm to manage boyd
and corporate devices and vpn that access our mobile interface.

So based on you environment, BMC mobility may work.

Good luck.

Runmacro is not returning the stdout error

2012-08-08 Thread DEE
Hello Everyone,

Environment,
AIX 6.1. with ARS 7.5P4 on 11g (local)
Websphere 6.1, MT 7.5P4 32bit install.

History, we have been using runmacro to create automated tickets for a long
time. So it is bridge between TEC/Ominbus and Remedy.

Occasionally and lately we have been experiencing this issue: The runmacro
executes successfully, but one of the parameter (variable) of the runmacro is
incorrect and should have issued an error (stdout) which is piped to a file and
logic written against. Nothing has changed, this works for other parameters
populating the runmacro format. I look at the filter logging to see if it
captures the error that should be stdout, but no error in logs.

Is there a better way to trouble shoot this?

Solution.: When the xml is generated. It is not inputting the correct Named operation (element name).

2012-06-05 Thread Dee
This maybe a bug in the tool,

Its all about how you create the WS.

If you right on a form, to create WS. Eventhough, you can modify the
generated WS Named Port or Operations from the defaults Port, Create,
GetList, Get, etc; the xml named element will not reflect the change. So you
php (how you are consuming the remedy ws) will need to modify the name
element.

However, if from start you build the ws, by creating new ws, adding from,
add operation, thru this process - the name element will be generated
correcting in xml.

Re: Pushing attached file to external app and then pulling parsed data back

2012-05-17 Thread Dee
Mmm.

One way to get the file out, using run macro to create arx report file,
write a wrapper around the run macro. Run script on server, arx file will
extra to attachment. If that app that parse attachment file reside on
another system/server, FTP/scp.

To get data back/file

If you are putting the attachment back to same request that has original
file, ...
Try web services.
If you parse data in another db, use view to read that data.

Hope this helps

Resolved: Question: How can you detect corrupted form?

2012-04-26 Thread Dee
Thanks to all that responded.

This permission issue on the midtier is a bug. SW00376993, resolved in
Mid-Tier 7.5 patch 8.
So work around for now, is to give the customer write access.

Thanks for responding Jase,

Yes, that was the first place I checked. Now I'm going thru all workflow
that has notifier, to see if it has the old server embeded. Already did
users configuration preferences, etc.

I'm at a lost. I even turn on all the other logs to see if any other errors
are occurring to correlate, nothing yet.

Any other thoughts.

Re: Java API connection pool question..

2012-04-13 Thread Dee
Thanks Mark,

We are looking into both responses from you and Axton.

Bmc eluded to connections to arserver are from the Java API connection pool,
with 7.6.4 there's a new option called Lifespan, which if enabled, a
connection will continue to talk to the same arserver it was linked to by
the Loadbalancer in front of the ARServer group until the connection's
lifespan expires, then the connection will be recycled.

However, we don't have loadbalancer between ars and mt app server and not a
7.6.4. We plan on upgrading to that version in the near future (behind the
firewall tier), so more funny times ahead.

We are looking at KB and how changing the values to
https://communities.bmc.com/communities/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/18162-102-3-39659/Mid-Tier_deployment_kb.pdf

in the configbo.properites file
# JavaAPI connection pooling parameters
arsystem.pooling_max_connections_per_server=80

and look at these two command which I don't see in the configbo.properites
or config.properites
arsystem.pooling_min_connections_per_server=0
arsystem.proxy_idle_time_per_server=0

Re: Java API connection pool question..

2012-04-12 Thread Dee
Axton,

From our network admins, these points where made, in response to your post.

The connections from the midtier (Websphere) server to the ARserver are
persistent TCP connections. These connections are not stateless.
Our firewall is doing stateful inspection on these connections.
The firewall security policy allows all of these connections to be started.
Connections are flushed from the firewall state tables after 1 hour of
INACTIVITY. Not active connections are ever flushed.
After an inactive connection has been flushed, any further packets (in
either direction) are dropped by the firewall. No RST packets are sent to
the session endpoints at the time of the flush or at the time of the packet
drops. A firewall log entry is created for each of these out-of-state
packet drops.
After attempting to re-use one of the inactive/flushed connections, the
application's session endpoint make take several minutes doing TCP retries
of their dropped packets before they give up and start a new connection.

We want to know how we can configure the AR product to either:
1) keep these connections active by implementing the keepalive protocol or
2) close the connections when the immediate unit of work is finished.

IBM WebSphere Application Server - ND - 6.1.0.25.

Re: Java API connection pool question..

2012-04-11 Thread Dee
Awesome explanation, Thank you Axton.

The connection on the midtier is TCP, but will double for UDP. Question: our
MT points to TCP, would it in parallel use UDP? Although, yesterday, I
enabled portmapper for a local application to ARServer, so UDP 111 could be
utilized.

I will followup with the network admin on what is actually being blocked and
let you know.

To your point and even the n/w admins are saying the policy is as you put it
brain dead, they don't make policy, only implement and there are no
governors. This probably came from vender Checkpoint as a recommendation.
Even with no policy owners, they are currently looking at increasing the
1hour to 2 hour on the firewall connection table, which I presume is the
default. This is because all connections are logged; may be performance
issue on the firewall for the 1hour limit on the connection table.

Currently, the production is in a legacy environment, no firewalls, and
portmapped. We don't encounter the issue. In the near future we will be
moving to new server behind firewall.

Re: Transferring in-house 6.3 code to a 7.6.04 server

2012-04-10 Thread Dee
David,

I understand you going to 7.6x on solaris, but maybe you will see issue
like, what we when thru.

We when from 6.3p20 to 7.5.p4 on UNIX with 10g - custom service and change
environment. As Joe pointed, if you have not customized core forms:
user:group, etc.. you should be good but then you may get minor errors
example the user form gave us a box 4 error, which made the installer fail.
Basically delete the view (not the table) that is given the issue.

We did this, copy your production to test, and run the upgrade work thru the
kinks. Blow the test away again, do it again, to smooth out the process and
steps. This way you can work with BMC on the issues.

We found the installer failed many times,..

we did a gradual, installing each component at a time, and work thru the
errors.
- ar servers
- ardbc
- area
- fb
- email engine
(our MT is on a separate server).

Hello List,

Senario,

Browser -- Loadbalancer -- 2 http server -- UNIX + Websphere App Server

This is the first time the ARS is behind firewall. The firewall flushes
connection on each session every hour.
Midtier configuration session timeout is set to 60 min.

We see slow/long logins and 'out of state session in the firewall.

So if the Connections to arserver are from the Java API connection pool,

- How can the connection pool be managed?
- If the keepalive protocol is enabled, will this keep session to database
open?
- If the connection pool is has stale connection, how can they flushed
immediately such that less time to create new session?
- if the unix default keepalive 2 hour variable is changed to 1hour, how
does this impact the Java API connection pool.

Basically, how can we either keep the session alive across a f/w that
flushes sessions every hour?
or Manage the pool to flush stale connections very quickly, such that
establishing another session (login) is in seconds rather than minutes?

Like John in this post and Sam in Suggestions post last week, are these

Looking at System Forms/Workflow, do these mean anything or just name

Production Issue: ARERR 330: You don't have write access to field

2012-04-06 Thread Dee
This error is You do not have write access to field : Comments (ARERR 330)

updating this fields at all. He is updating another fields which has no
baring on the Comments fields.

This is happening in the MT and not in the user tool. I have turned on all

Any thoughts .. is the logs could show which workflow is triggering the
error.

its not active link, I logged in as the user, and activelink logging show

2012-04-06 Thread Dee
Thanks Andrew for responding,

I cannot add public, this is not a public field.
I did add any user can submit with same issue.

The user has read/view access to the fields not write. The user has other
access, I added a role he has change/write access but as readonly/view, same
error on the field properties. But changed it to change/write, no error. He
cannot have write access to the field, only read. This does not occur in the
user tool.

I disabled allow associated activelinks (1), filter to the Comment fields.
Still same error.

Resolved: Production Issue: ARERR 330: You don't have write access to field

2012-04-06 Thread Dee
Ok, Its a mystery; but the issue is not occurring for me atleast.

The only thing I can i think may have helped, is the continues flushing of
the mid-tier cache.

The field that the user is getting the error on, has the same permissions,
the workflow most filters, 1 activelink the its permissions, and now the
user continue.

This has happen before and issue with BMC with no result, and the issue
cleared it self up them.

Question: How can you detect corrupted form?

2012-04-06 Thread Dee
Question: How can you detect corrupted form?

The form shows no sign of corruption, many people use the form. But after a
change with field restrictions, pops like You do not have write access to
field : Comments (ARERR 330) occur, then miraculously disappear, but after
removing permissions, re-adding same permission.

How can we check in details, if permissions are being applied to
schemas:fields level?

Resolved: ARERR 514: Contents of the Status-History field in the flat file database are missing or invalid

2012-03-07 Thread Dee
Thank you Doug for your response, again.

To further share with LIST, This error ARERR 514: Contents of the
Status-History field in the flat file database are missing or invalid was a
result of exporting production schema without stopping the production
database. (we can't stop production for test/qa environment). The
Status-History on 15 records in Service mngt (incident form) were being
updated at the time of export. So, once we imported to qa_environment, this
error start to occurred on Escalations (aresc.log showed errno=514), Filter
(arfilter.log showed USER: AR_ESCALATOR 514), arerror.log ( ARERR
514: Contents of the Status-History field in the flat file database are
missing or invalid) and POP-UP in WUT/MT (ARERR [514] Contents of the
Status-History field in the flat file database are missing or invalid).

Since qa, I found to records and deleted.

If this is production move, then we would have taken the outage and stop db
and export schema appropriately.

Well, you gave no indicate of what you were doing or context of the message
or version of the product or DB you are using or .

So, no indication of anything other than an out of context error message.

This makes it a bit difficult to help.

But, the only place I have been able to find a reference to this error (the
text is a bit misleading as it was originally used for a flat file DB case and
was shared for this other use without fixing the text of the message) is when
there is a query qualifier of some type that has a reference to a status
history field and the syntax of the portion of the qualifier structure for
the status history reference is incorrect.

Now, if you were writing a API program and issuing a call with a qualifier, it
would indicate that you have not correctly loaded the Status History section of
the Arithmetic Operation Qualifier structure.

If you are getting this at import time, it would indicate that the format of
some qualifier (an active link or filter run if or a set field or push fields
qualifier or ...) is corrupted. There is a status history reference and the
format of the serialized representation of the qualifier cannot be decoded.

If you are getting this at AR System server startup, it is the same idea as
import but it means that one of the definitions somewhere in your metadata
tables has a bad qualifier.

If you are getting this somewhere else, it is an indication of something around
the area where you are getting the error has a bad qualifier regarding a
reference to Status History.

Of course, the qualification could be messed up so that the system THINKS there
is a status history reference but it is really some other corruption of the
qualifier definition.

Anyway, I hope this helps. It is hard to help further without context.

Re: Mid tier - failed to add attachment

2012-02-27 Thread DEE
We have a similiar issue in which we experiencing occasionally. We have
reported 2 twice but no solution.

Our issue, occurs with non admin users, on create with attachment, the
attachment fails to attach. The user has to reattach after the ticket has been
created. This is a big issue on our Change form. We were told by support that
the form might be corrupted on 2nd support call, but this is occurring across
used forms.

Initial problem occurred with 6.3p20 on websphere, when we downgrade to IE 6
(at that time ie 7 was newish), it worked;
after upgrade to 7.5p4 on webshpere 6.1, occasionally users experience this on
ie7 , we tried removing all the permissions to attachment fields then re-add,
that seem work. Now, I have not have any customer report an issue, its has been
months, so either they are reattaching or they don't care to report.

Oh.. check you ar.conf, ensure cache-mode=0 rather than 1, which support think
may have been an issue too.

1. Create a macro file: data modified in last 5 minutes
2. Create a report file.
3. Append the report to macro file.
4. Append to the function - to-file: /path/file.csv
5. On the server, using the runmacro to run the macros file.
6. Then you can write a script to move and rename to file.csv.
7. You can execute with an escalation every 5 or Cronjob.

Example Marco
marco.arq
MarcoName
Set-user: $USER$$PASSWORD$
Set-schema: $Form$$server$
Query: 1=%
Form-open:
Form-entry-list: 0
Report: 1=23=HELLO
to-file: /PATH/file.csv
Form-final: modify@
Query: 1=%
end

Installation questions

2012-02-06 Thread Dee
Background: I have down upgrades but not fresh install. I'm doing a New
Installation on 7.5p4 ARS on 6.1 UNIX 10g local to server.

1. The installer is prompting me for the dbms admin user and pwd. Just for
clarification, is the user pwd = aradmin pwd which was given the rights per
installation guide? or the oracle dba user pwd?

2. It prompts for a username and pwd, which is uses to import the forms, I use
DEMO. Yet I can't log into the Dev Studio, it cannot find the user... what am i
doing wrong?

3. In the overwrite selection, i am prompted for dbms admin user and pwd and I
enter aradminpwd, next dialog errors to the below, but if i select upgrade it
doesnot, can anyone provide guidance.

Solution

Check for the following:

1. Confirm the 'Database Client Home Path' points to the directory
above where the 'jdbc' directory exists. 'ojdbc14.jar ' file exists.

/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/jdbc

Path should be 'u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0'.

2. Confirm the 'ojdbc14.jar ' file exists.

/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/jdbc/lib/objdbc14.jar

3. If file is missing reinstall the Oracle client or missing jdbc
components.

Senario: Firewall Keep-alive Firewall timer..what worked?

2011-12-15 Thread DEE
Can you provide your thoughts on this senario?

We have encounter on our test environment which is port mapped with a specific
port, that via our citrix environment it takes exact 41 sec to login and MT/WUT
would produce a server time out errors; eventhough, ports have been defined in
firewall, TCD-port and Http 80. Firewall admin did not see any traffic being
dropped; but suggested that we may be experiencing timeouts because the session
in the firewall connectiontable has been cleared, so it tries connect, and then
started a new session which successfully logs in.

What we tried to correct this, is the change the keep-alive on unix servers to
less than and equal to the time the firewall flushes the connection table
(unixx defualt 2 hours), this was done on the ars app server and 2 MT web
servers. Should this have worked?

Also, tried was adding a timer to firewall rule , now these were done all at
once to get the environment to stop timing out. which would you say worked?

Re: Moving ARServer being Firewall and new server

2011-12-15 Thread DEE
Thank you.

In addition, to what has been posted and I have read, defining a specific port
behind firewall is the best path.

**

Behind a firewall, you HAVE to specify a specific port that has been configured
by the firewall admins to be allowed on the network..

If you default it to 0, it tells the AR Server to use a default available port
on the server, and you would require to enable your port mapper and remove the
server from behind the firewall in order for the server to accept connections
from the clients..

Hope that answers your questions..

** Hello List,

Our environment is:

ARServer: 7.5.00 Patch 004

(2-installation) MT Server: 7.5.00 Patch 004
AR Server OS: AIX 6.1

Mid Tier OS: AIX 6.1

Web Server: Websphere 6.1

Database: Oracle 10 g

Browsers: Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9, and Firefox 8.0.1

TCD-Specific-Port: 0
Oracle is local to Arserver.

New environment ( on ArServer OS AIX 6.1.6)

BigIp -- 2HttpServers --2websphereApp-- (FW)---Arserver
WUT --(FW) -- Arsever

We had moved our test environment to new server from a shared environment (with
DR). So we tar and lay it down, and that was port mapped.

Question: On the test environment, if I change the TCD-Specific-Port: XX to
TCD-Specific-Port: 0, will it default to udp 111, what TCP range will return?
Other than midtier/WUT configuration, is there anywhere we will need to remove
port. Basically, UN-portmapping test to mirror production.

Question: Behind firewall, is it more recommended set a TCD-Specific-Port? Per
the documentation, all connections will used the assigned port, true? also,
what will the load and performance impact? I know this will impact WUT users
which is a small population of 350 - whom will need to start going to MT with
client being retired.

Question: We are exploring the idea of doing a fresh installation of 7.5.00
Patch 004, then import the schemas/def (customer shop) from production, then
import the data. This way we can install all the components of 7.5x, that we
will be using going forward. Is this a good method? Basically, this new server
aix 6.1.6, will be a test environment which will move to prod. We will change
to database port and server alias. So, when we move to production, can we move
back to old alias?

Any help, and direction will be appreciated! Thank you,

Best way to move server behind firewall?

2011-12-15 Thread DEE

Hello,

Joe and Axton, thank you for responding to Moving ARServer being Firewall and
new server

Our environment is:

ARServer: 7.5.00 Patch 004

(2-installation) MT Server: 7.5.00 Patch 004
AR Server OS: AIX 6.1

Mid Tier OS: AIX 6.1

Web Server: Websphere 6.1

Database: Oracle 10 g

Oracle is local to Arserver.

I am exploring the idea of doing a

fresh installation of 7.5.00 Patch 004 on AIX 6.1.6 on Oracle 10g

then import the schemas/def (customer shop) from production,

then import the data

We have had Remedy arserver i believe we were their second customer, we will
have legacy equipment that have 4.1 client install. That being said prior to my
inheritance, a major jump from 4.x to 6.3 was done, since then upgrades to 7.5
p4. During all this we have not used components that have evolved with the
product, like email engine/approval server/etc.

The above, install will allow us to add components of 7.5x, that we will be
using going forward, clean!

Is this a good method?

We can tar the old environment, give it a new demo key, install all the
components, also.

Ben,

“is the standard port for databases” is not quitetrue. 1521 is Oracle, 1433 is
MSSQL.

And a word of warning, portmapper shouldn’t be used if youare using a firewall
between you and the AR Server. Although you could map port111 you would have to
map the TDC port too, which I guess you could do but itseasier to map just one
;)

Seems like I am being picky, sorry ;)
Kind regards
Danny

1521 is the standard port for databases. Remedy has no“standard port”. Port
mapper allows your clients to not set aport. If you want a port, just pick
one, staying away from the lowernumbers reserved for other services.

I'm experiencing these issue with patch 4 on upgrade on unix.

1. Installer won't run with X11 biniary in Libpath.
2. On a custom install in of arserver, arealdap, ardbcldap,
flashboard, email engine, the rik import, fail to import most of the
system forms, with no errors. Except for group from.
3. Experienced error where the installer couldnot stop/start

Hopefully, this will help.

Good afternoon,

I wanted to see if there is any undocumented best practice for a 7.5
upgrade in terms of what ARS patches to install. Normally I would
just go straight to the highest level, but lately BMC hasn’t been ma
king all of their patches all-inclusive like they used to so I don’t
want to miss out on anything and run into problems.

Filters run on server side. So, that push action can be triggered in

Active link run on the form level basically user interaction triggers

Push action on active link or filter do the same thing.

That has happened to me before. If you change a letter from Upper
Case to Lower Case or vice versa and hit save it says it already
exists. So change the name completely by adding some characters at
the end, then save, no take out the characters at the end and you will
be fine.

didn't know if it is just creating new records in the SYS: Status Reason

Also - if it is just creating a new record in the status reason menu items

 Thanks,

Re: Adding Clear to a Menu

2008-08-26 Thread T. Dee
What we did is in the Menu we added Field 1 to Label fields, but we
set Value Field to Field 2. The Form that contained our Data we had
data as follows:

Field 1: Blue
Field 2: Blue

Field 1: Orange
Field 2: Orange

Field 1: Green
Field 2: Green

Field 1: (Clear)
Field 2:

So when the user clicked on the pull down they would see:

Blue
Orange
Green
(Clear)

And because my Menu was set to use the Value FIeld of Field 2 - if
they selected (Clear) they got a blank set. If they choose any
other colour they got the colour they selected.

Clear as mud?

Hope this helps - let me know if you need more details.

Does anyone else use Change 6.0? If so does your system let someone
close a Task that has a sequence of lets say 3 when 0, 1, and 2 are
 still open?

I thought you couldn't job to another Task and close it if previous
 ones were open?

 THANKS!

Re: Urgent-Regular form Save action not able to retrieve current record

2008-08-08 Thread T. Dee
Is this ITSM 7 or a custom application?

Re: Modify All Operation Disabled on Change Form on ITSM 7.02

2008-08-08 Thread T. Dee
The gotchas would depend on what you modify with modify all. All of
hidden fields are set depending on what you do.

I would change one record in the normal way without Modify All and
turn on logging and see what is being set.

Ive had some of our users complain that they would like to close a mass
number of their Change Requests all at once with set Scheduled dates and
 with set Actual End dates.

Many groups deal with low to no impact changes that only deal with a request
for deploying a desktop/laptop to a user or some particular users or
deploying some other hardware or software to user(s).
At times our users complete the requests in the field and perform the
services and then want to then go back in Remedy and close out the changes.

I discovered that for some reason the Modify All operation was disabled on
 the CHG:Infrastructure Change form.
Its an enabled feature on other forms such as HPD:Help Desk but for some
reason it was disabled on this form.

I know I can easily re-enable this option but I was wondering if anyone else
has done so and if anyone know of any gotchas if you do this? (do the
Approval process steps start to mess up? Is there other data that is not
set properly in the Change tickets that are mass updated via Modify All?)

Re: What filter creates the URL that is attached to the notifications (on ITSM 7)

2008-08-07 Thread T. Dee
I believe this is the filter you are looking for:

NTE:NTS:Email_200_SystemNT

We removed the URL and the Shortcut from the Filter for the Notifications.

 All,

I need to turn off the Filter that creates the URL that is placed on the out
 going notifications e-mails.

I spent the past couple of hours (with no luck) looking at logs trying to
 fix that.

 Any ideas?

Re: Age old question: ITSM 7 report list? Attention: David Easter

2008-08-07 Thread T. Dee
Unfortunately no - according to BMC there is a RFE in on this. Many
individuals have requested this and still nothing.

What I don't understand is all of these reports are out of the box
and no one at BMC knows what each report does or when it fires, etc. -
yet they made these reports.

Just my humble opinion.

 Hi folks,
This has been asked many times before, but here it
 goes again.

Is there a list of the out-of-the-box reports in ITSM
7? A simple list with short description would be nice.
Longer descriptions and/or a screen shot of each would
have me (and my customer) jump up and down with pure
 joy.

Anybody ever got one from BMC or built their own?

The best I can think of is a report on Reports form.
This one is not having the desired effect on the
customer and the customer refuses to emote anything
close to joy, much less jump up and down with me.

David: You'd be a hero to the masses if you could get
 us something usable.

Question: Change 6.0

2008-08-07 Thread T. Dee
In Change 6.0 there is a field called 'zTmpReqNotAddress' - there is
alot of workflow that uses this to Notify the users. But I can't find
when / how or where this field gets set.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
