I was a bit confused when I followed the directions in the post and found the folder exactly where it was, then when I went to look for the folder you mentioned, I had no trace of it, so it would seem that the folder may be in a different location if you're using Windows Pro versions. Just double click on one and it'll open. Look at it and if it is not what you want saved close it and follow the appropriate prompt. If it is something you want saved, Save or Save As, the document you want. Re: [Blind-Computing] converting ISO to exe
Why you want to do this? Vinux or ubuntu is another operating system not just an aplication. You may want to install it on a virtual machine (computer) using virtual box or vmwarePlayer. With the executable file you can't do this. If you don't want virtual machine you may want to install it as a real system replacing or along with windows. But the iso should be burned to cd/dvd to do this. Also you can use the cd as a live system without installing it. You should red more about it before you install it as a second operating system. Read it and weep: PALO ALTO, CA -Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful. Facebook has gotten out of control, said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness. Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts. After March 15th the whole website shuts down, said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won't be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business. Zuckerberg said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset. I personally don't think it's a big deal, he said in a private phone interview. And to be honest, I think it's for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That's always a good thing. Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news. What am I going to do without Facebook? said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. My life revolves around it. I'm on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time? However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief. I'm glad the Facebook nightmare is over, said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. Now my teenager's face won't be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her. Those in the financial circuit are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion. But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He says he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe. I don't care about the money, said Zuckerberg. I just want my old life back. The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased. Thank you. I was subscribed to the orca list, but the trafic was too much for me, so I unsubscribed from few lists. But don't quote me on that! I use software speech with Speakup when I use Linux. I doubt Orca (the GNOME screen reader) supports usb synths either. In fact I don't use Orca at all. But a good place to get answers is the Speakup mailing list. The Speakup homepage can be found at: http://www.linux-speakup.org/ There is a link to the mailing list on the front page. There is a Orca mailing list as well but I don't have the address right now. Hello, A friend is interested in Image for Windows and asked me a question that I'm not able to answer yet, because I haven't done this. His question is. If I have a hard disk divided in 2 drives C: and D:, and I've backed up c: drive on dvd. At the time of restoration from DVD would all the hard drive be formatted or only c: drive? I think it uses ncurses to draw the character based dialog. Try moving through the list of options with the up and down arrow keys. If you are using the desktop keyboard layout, the NumPad Enter key should better report what you are focused on. I ended up hitting the Tab key, so it would cycle through the buttons and the list. When it enters the list, it usually properly announces the item in the list with focus. When you find the desired none item, just hit Enter. My understanding is that the image backup files, which are usually split into 2 or 4 GB chunks are in Terabyte's special TBI formula. You can backup to a different large partition or external drive, if desired. Then Terabyte has a burn utility which will burn the files to blank DVDs. When it does this, it will make the first disk bootable to DOS, I believe, so it can be used to start the recovery. Negoslav - Original Message - From: Ishe Chinyoka chinyoka.consult...@gmail.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, August 05, 2010 4:28 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] windows vista system restore utility I never used that utility, but I use one called ERUNT -- Emergency Recovery Utility for NT systems. This will back up your registry hives, and will continue to back up your settings each time your system starts. It backs up its data to a chosen folder (which by default is in the SystemRoot folder). When you have a system crash, or when you encounter performance penalties after installation or a virus attack, you simply restore your system by running it from the backup folder. This is even possible in situations where Windows refuses to load: you simply boot into safemode and run the restore utility from the command line, or if not possible, you do a repair and then run the restore utility. Better still, I found that you can create a Bart's PE CD, and when your system is refusing to boot or do anything, you just pop in the CD and run the live recovery CD: just access the backup folder and run the restore utility and you will be prompted to restart your machine. It will restore your system to the date you did your backup. The autobackup feature also helps you to select the date to which you want to restore your computer. The author of the program made it to run on 32-bit systems and I'm not sure if it will work on 64-bit systems. It saved me a lot of headaches as I used to reinstall my system after every few months, but now I have stayed with my system for two years without reinstalling Windows. If you are interested in the utility, and to make sure that it works on Windows Vista, here is the link to the homepage: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ Hope this helps someone out there, if not directly applicable to your situation. I actually just found a text editor/word processor called VDE. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,53873-page,1-c,wordprocessing/description.html It's features and usage are incredible, and if it works with a screen reader, then I'll definitely be using it from now on on my DOS machine. It actually has options for saving and loading text in various formats, including unformatted (with one varient being used to open and/or save files in NotePad's format), ascii, MS Word through 97, Word Perfect 4-6, Word Star and a few more. This program's functions can be customised but in the default settings can be accessed either via a menu bar or via Word Star commands. Seriously, I can't believe the power of this little editor! It even works on Windows 95/98 machines. I just hope it's accessible. If so, then I'll be reviewing it here later. As for the Greek, unfortunately, I can only read and write it in Windows. Even though there are newer editors and browsers in DOS that can handle Unicode, I don't have a Greek synthesizer. Talk soon, Eleni PS. I adore WebbIE but are there any plans of updating it? It no longer works on certain webpages. On 7/25/10, Alasdair King alasdairk...@gmail.com wrote: There are two unrelated issues here. 1 How characters are encoded in the file - ANSI, DBCS and so on. 2 How newlines are encoded. Newlines first. There is no consistent newline character (indicating the end of a line) as there is for the character a. Instead, Windows and MS-DOS uses two characters - carriage return CR, 10, and line feed LF, 13. But Unix (and Apple Mac) uses one character - line feed LF, 13. So a text file can be in Windows/MS-DOS encoding or Unix encoding. If you open a Unix text file in Notepad you'll find that the newlines are missing and the whole thing is one big lump of text. WordPad is smarter and realises the single LF characters should be newlines, so you don't see this happen. So if you have a Unix text file - no newlines in Notepad - then you can open it in WordPad and then save it as Text or MS-DOS Text and it'll then work correctly in Notepad and DOS. At this point I'm going to admit that I can't tell why there are two WordPad Save As Text options. They both produce Windows/MS-DOS format ANSI text files. Now, character encodings. This is even more complicated. Essentially, old-style ANSI can give you those files with lots of question marks and the wrong characters. Use Unicode, which means using the UTF-8 or the Unicode setting in Notepad or WordPad. Both are Unicode, but different ways of encoding it - when Windows says Unicode is often means DBCS. But anyway, Notepad can do either type, as can WordPad. Here are two files with Greek in them, one in the Unicode format, one in UTF8. Both work in Notepad: http://development.webbie.org.uk/test/text/Text-Unicode.txt http://development.webbie.org.uk/test/text/Text-UTF8.txt Here's a detailed explanation, though some of the text is displayed using images: http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html So I think you should be able to use WordPad to open any file then save it as Unicode, and all should then be well for Windows machines. For MS-DOS pre-Windows machines you'll need to save as ANSI, which means setting the code page of your machine to the language you want to support - Greek, for example - and accepting that files with Unicode and non-Greek character will be mangled on your system. Best wishes, Alasdair King WebbIE On Sat, Jul 24, 2010 at 12:42 AM, Eleni Vamvakari magkis...@gmail.com wrote: So today, I decided to see how Word Perfect 5.1 and Ed.exe would read files saved as .txt in Notepad and .txt (MS-DOS format) in Wordpad. In both cases, VocalEyes didn't read the sentences properly in Ed.exe. The words at the end of each line would cut off. But in Word Perfect 5.1, it read the lines perfectly. I'm baffled by this, since Ed is from Word Perfect Corporation and even uses the same commands as 5.1. The only difference is that it saves as .txt and not as .wpd and it doesn't convert the .txt files to .wpd when you open them. I then checked the settings in VocalEyes in both programs and they were the same. I'm completely confused here.

I don't know of Alexandros, but Accapella has a wonderful voice called Dimitris. NVDA, which is a free screenreader, comes with it's own version of ESpeak, which is far better than the one that you can download for Klango. I'm assuming that's the regular version. In any case, NVDA has a setting that you can use to switch to Greek and that's the one I always use. It does a great job at recognising the tonos so words are usually pronounced correctly. It can be found here. http://www.nvda-project.org As for learning Greek, there's an excellent free course here. http://www.kypros.org Go to Learn Greek and then to Modern Greek. There, you'll be able to create an account and start on the lessons. They have audio as well as text and both are exactly the same so you could use just one method or combine them. They use the monotonic system, so ESpeak won't have a problem reading the words. Note that there are some errors in several early lessons. What I do is have one window open with the text of the lesson and then copy it from that window into a blank document with Wordpad so that I learn pronunciation and spelling. There are no teachers or grades, so everything is done at your own pace. If you need any help, just e-mail me offlist. Thank you for telling us the way we can use team viewer. If I find the way to pass all the keystroeks to the other computer I'll shout it out here. I have mentioned that in the first message in this thread. I said that jaws specific keystrokes are not working on the distant computer. However, this team viewer is really the best free program that helped me fix other's problems remotely. Before i got hold of it, i used to spend a long time guiding the client to do things i could perform myself in very few minutes. Sometimes i have to ask the client to hit some keystrokes for me, however, i really could do so much work with it. Believe it or not, once while I was playing with a distant computer, I found out that even the jaws keystrokes worked, I was astonished as it was the first time that I could make them to work. I tried my best to figure out how come they did work but unfortunately I couldn't. I'm still confused until today about how did they work? Was it just a cquencidence? Did I hit unconciously a combination of keys which made them to function? I really don't know. I am still hoping that someday, I or someone else could get the secret and wow... how great would that be if we could do everything on the distant computer... Moving through tabs is not a jaws specific functionality, so you can use the firefox commands. They are the same as in IE. Ctrl+tab will move you to the next tab. Ctrl+shift+tab will move you to the previous tab. Ctrl+1 through 0 on the number row will move you directly to the corresponding opened tab. Re: [Blind-Computing] Password Protect
For OE, go to the file menu/identities/manage identities and look through the dialogue. What you want is found under the properties button. For skype, just log out, and you will need your password to log in. It's important to remember your pass. If you set skype to log you in automaticly, you should change it in order to log in manually.
