Hi again Charles, when we do update Ten Pin Alley, we will absolutely be
including 3D physics and game-play. This will be a much more comprehensive and
realistic experience. So this will be a lot of fun and should be more of what
you’re after.

Cheers!

Hi Charles and all, not to put too fine a point on it, :) but we actually do
have two apps in the Mac app store:

Change Reaction and Silver Dollar.

iOS apps will be coming but not yet. -Just wanted to eliminate any possible
confusion for folks. :)

2023-11-11 Thread Cara Quinn
Probably the safest controller to get would be an XBox controller. I’m assuming
that any controller or wheel that works with Windows would probably work though.

There are also controller mapping options available in the game as well, and
the keyboard is also usable and configurable.

Cheers!

Not sure if this will help, but there is a benchmark option in the PC version
which will evaluate your system.

You can also adjust the game’s options for different frame rates and whether or
not to use ray-tracing etc.

I don’t know about compatibility, as I’m not using the PC version, as I’d
mentioned earlier, but hopefully this helps a bit.

Hope it works for you!

Cheers!

Re: [blind-gamers] games that are on xbox and pc can people please give links?

2023-11-10 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Just want to respond to this since it was my post that started it.

First off, my apologies for not posting links. I honestly had intended only to
post to gage interest in a possible weekly chat for folks who were already
playing the game, rather than discuss the game itself.

Secondly, since I am only playing the XBox version, and am not playing on PC or
looking to play this on a Mac, I had no idea where to download the actual game.

For future reference for everyone not on console, when anyone mentions that a
game is on XBox, you can only ever install that from the Microsoft store that I
know of, so there is only one place to find those games. Obviously, since this
game is also available natively on PC and also on Steam, this is where the
confusion happens.

As a note of interest, I did see someone playing this on an M1 Mac so I am
assuming this is via Steam. So this does seem to be possible.

Also, it looks like Apple will have more ability to run Windows titles natively
in the near future so it should be much easier to run these titles on Mac.

Lastly, to the person who mentioned that a Forza Discord server already exists,
(Forza Motorsport Blind Masters) I did look it up and found that the link had
expired.

Do you know if this still exists, or do you have an updated link?

At this point, I don’t see why having another Forza chat would be a bad thing
so for now at least, I’ll plan on seeing if folks would still like to do this.
Any thoughts, anyone? :)

So once again, my apologies for unknowingly starting a contentious thread. It
was certainly not my intention.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend and to those who are interested in Forza,
happy racing! :)

Cheers!

Cara

2023-11-07 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day / evening!

I’m trying to gage how much interest there would be for a weekly get-together
for chat and racing in Forza Motorsport?

For now, I’ve set up a Discord server with general text and voice chat channels
as well as a Forza Motorsport Racing Club channel. So I’m wondering if anyone
here may be interested in meeting perhaps once a week to race with others or
chat about all things Forza or accessible driving in general?

If anyone is interested in this sort of thing, the server link is:

https://discord.com/invite/e5YHAyXY

There’s nothing going on just yet as I am still working out a time and day but
I am very much open to suggestions so we can make this available to as many
folks as would like.

Of course, anyone is certainly welcome to join the server regardless for
general chat but as I said, right now it’s super quiet. So just be prepared. :)

thanks a bunch All and perhaps we can catch up soon!

Cheers!

Cara

Re: [blind-gamers] Forza Motorsport - Painting a car

2023-10-11 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi again All,

Just replying to myself here to update a couple of things I said in my last
note.

Also, thanks for your replies so far. Glad this is helpful! :)

Ok, so in my last note, I said that when you choose a car by pressing the A
button, you will see a Paint Car option. I missed a menu. My apologies. You’ll
actually see a designs and paint option which you would click on first. Then
you will see the Paint Car option. From there, everything is like I mentioned
in my note. So hopefully this helps.

I also found a new feature that I hadn’t seen before.

when you’re on the screen where you can choose paint colors, and your on the
Normal Colors tab, if you select a color there with the D-Pad and press the X
button, you will actually bring up the specific settings for that color. So you
would see Hue, Saturation and Brightness with all of the settings for the color
you have selected. For example, if you select Yellow with D-Pad left / right
and set a saturation with D-Pad up / down, and press X, you will see something
like Hue 16, Saturation 100 and Brightness 52, depending on the specific
saturation value you just set. Hope this makes sense. It’s way easier than it
sounds. :)

This is very cool for finding a specific spoken color and being able to make
slight adjustments to it without sighted assistance.

I was super happy to find this! :)

Anyway, hope this helps and I’ll write again when / if I find more features. :)

Have a terrific day / evening!

Cheers!

Cara

[blind-gamers] Forza Motorsport - Painting a car

2023-10-09 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Hope everyone is awesome!

For those who may be interested, I wanted to discuss painting your cars, since
it is accessible to a large degree in the new Forza Motorsport.

I know this won’t be for everyone but I thought there may be some folks here
(like myself) who might enjoy doing this so I thought I would detail the
process here. Just as a note, this is a pretty long email so if you’re not
interested, you may wish to skip this one. :)

There are actually two ways of painting a car; when you buy the car and also
when / if you would like to re-paint a car you’ve already purchased.

First off, when you purchase a car in the game, you will come to a screen which
has a few tabs on it. By default, you will be in the Manufacturer Colors tab.
There are three other tabs on this page which you can get to, using the left /
right shoulder buttons on the controller. These tabs are actually spoken but it
was not obvious to me at first that they were there, without first exploring
the screen using the shoulder buttons so I thought I would save others the
trouble. :)

These tabs in order from left to right, are:

Normal Colors

Manufacturer Colors

Special Colors

Previous Colors

The good news is that all of the options in all of these tabs are spoken or
indicated by sound. The better news is that Both the Normal Colors and Special
Colors menus allow us to completely and accessibly customize a given selected
color. So this is more accessibility than I’ve ever seen for car design in a
main-stream game like this.

>From what I’ve seen so far, the very first option to the left in each tab, is
>what ever the current car color is. This option is not spoken but you will
>hear the click when you select it and as I’ve said, it is the option all the
>way to the left. So each menu in each of the four tabs above will have this
>option.

I’ll describe each menu in detail below, eliminating this left-most option.

When in the Normal Colors menu, you will have a list of colors from left to
right, which are all spoken, along with their saturation values. You can move
from color to color using the D-Pad left and right. If you’d like to change the
saturation (or intensity) of a color, simply use D-Pad up or down and the
saturation level will be spoken. This scale goes from 0 to 9. 0 is basically
white and 9 is the most intense version of the selected color possible.

to paint your car in the selected color, simply press the A button. It just
doesn’t get much easier! lol! :)

If you want to choose another color, just select one and adjust it the way you
like.

Once you’ve pressed the A button to apply the paint to your car, I believe the
View button will give you save options or you will also be asked to save your
work if you try to leave the menu.

I’m going to skip ahead now to the Special Colors menu, and I’ll explain why
later.

This menu is also laid out from left to right, and shows a list of colors you
can move through, using D-Pad left and right.

A lot of these colors are obvious from the spoken description and are simple to
apply to your car just by selecting a color and pressing the A button as above.

However, a few others are not. So I’ll describe these below.

The first few options on the left of this menu show paint types such as Mat and
Semi-Gloss. You’ll notice though, that no color is described. This is because
these are types of paint rather than actual colors. So these can be any color.

You choose these colors by changing the hue, saturation and brightness. The X
button should get you into this menu. I say should because some of the colors
in this Special Colors tab have other options, which I will discuss a little
further below.

Anyway, for now, pressing the X button will allow you to create a color using
your D-Pad.

D-Pad up and down will switch between Hue, Saturation and Brightness. D-Pad
left and right will change the value for each of these parameters. All of this
is spoken and you will see a number for each parameter. So you might hear, Hue,
42., which would be somewhere between green and yellow. I.E. something close to
Chartreuse.

Essentially, 0 would be red, and 100 would be Violet or purple. I’ll need to
look at this again as they might allow us to go all the way up to white or
chrome in this parameter but usually this scale goes from red to violet. So you
would be moving through the rainbow going from red, to orange, to yellow, to
green, through blue and indigo and then finally to violet.

the scale may not be even but essentially this is how you would work with hue.

The Saturation and Brightness parameters work together. As mentioned before,
the saturation is like the intensity of a color, so what ever color you create
with the hue, you then set its intensity using saturation. As before, 0 is the
least intense color and 100 is the most.

The brightness also goes from 0 to 100 and represents essentially how much
light the color reflects. So

Re: [blind-gamers] question to those who might have or know of the PS 5 Disk Eddition. does the screen reader support extend to the playing of blue ray disks?

2023-08-22 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Mich,

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you on this.

I meant to email you and the list a few days ago. I did try the PS 5’s blueray
player and while it is workable, the workflow is anything but friendly in my
opinion.

Also, I haven’t yet figured out how to switch audio tracks for something like
audio descriptions.

The actual blueray menu for the disc is not read by the PS 5 screen reader but
you can play a disc and move through tracks etc.

I will be doing a bit more with this this week and also comparing it with the
player on the XBox X to see which one is more accessible.

I also want to try a few other discs so I have more to share.

I hope this helps for now. Sorry I don’t have better news as yet.

Have a great evening and will get back with you and the list again soon when I
have more to share.

Cheers!

Cara

Hi Peter,

the last time I checked Apple Arcade was at least a year ago so I will need to
look again.

At that time though, there may have been like one game that had some
accessibility. It was a literary game of some sort and I will need to look up
it’s name.

I’ll look again in general though to see if I can find any more games that look
good now.

Hi Joshua,

On your way to race events, you should also come across stories as well.

So you can progress in the game that way.

It’s also possible to access some of the stories through one of the menus that
does not speak, but I can’t remember which one it is just at the minute. -My
apologies.

I’ll see if I can find it tomorrow.

Have a great night, Joshua, and apologies that I can’t be of more help just now.

Hi Joshua,

You might try the tip I mentioned about just picking a random direction on the
map and clicking anywhere to set a route.

Once you get there, you can try Anna again from there. Since it will be further
away from your earlier location, she may not route you back to the same event.

Also, make sure you’re choosing race events and not accolades. This makes a big
difference.

Hope this helps and please do let us know.

If I can suggest anything else, I sure will.

Best of luck!

2023-08-05 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey Lenron,

Please let us know how those tips work out for you.

I’ve been sick this week so my voice is weak, but if I can do a reasonable
audio demo for some of this at some point, I sure will.

Regarding the destinations, yeah, it’s really a pain that Anna does not offer
more notice (or any notice) at times when approaching a destination.

When you overshoot one, if you can stop and reverse, you’ll most likely be able
to get back to it as long as you haven’t gone speeding past it like a maniac or
went off the road etc! lol! I only say this as I’m plenty guilty of it
sometimes! :)

If you drive like a normal human being you should have no problem at all
braking and reversing to get back to the route destination.

Hope this works for you.

As far as cars go, yes, I’ve collected quite a few over the months I’ve been
playing. I’ve also upgraded some of them which is accessible if you do the
auto-upgrades that are offered. Unfortunately, custom tunings are not.

While the message center is not accessible per se, you can collect daily
pay-outs and gifts there without sighted help. So I’ve gotten plenty of cars
from there as well. I’ll try to demo this in future.

I’ve also purchased some from the auto show which is also doable without sight.
You can’t see what liveries you’re choosing when you purchase the car, but you
can always change that out when you do have sighted help. You can certainly
purchase cars independently though.

One of the cooler cars in the game is the Koenigsegg 2020 Jesko which I
purchased from the auto show.

Right now though, I am mostly driving the Mercedes AMG 1 which I purchased from
the auction house. I did need sighted assistance to purchase it because the
auction house is not accessible.

It certainly is frustrating, as you say, how much of the game is inaccessible
when so much of it is quite well-done considering that it is a mainstream game.
If there was just a consistent channel to folks at the company that could
really be used for honest and constructive feedback, it would really be great!

I’ve written to them myself, but alas, have not heard back. Go figure. :)

Anyway, have a lovely evening / weekend! Hope the tips are working out for you.

Cheers!

Cara

Re: [blind-gamers] XBox and Company

2023-08-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, this is an issue across the board. Accessibility on consoles is
still just hit and miss at this point in my opinion.

While the digital culture holds up accessibility for all as a nice talking
point, there is critical logic in the development processes of each company
that is usually lacking in some way. There are exceptions, such as Apple, but
even then, there are failures.

-And, Microsoft as you mention has great accessibility but fails when it comes
to other critical areas in games or apps that do not work with Narrator or are
only partially accessible.

this also gets back to the way the term accessible is used, I feel.

It’s wonderful to see accessibility even as a prominent talking point now, but
it also does not yet really always mean accessibility for all. So it’s kind of
an oxymoron at times. lol! -Know what I mean?

Accessibility is a big term. For example, I’m really keyed into my own
disability and what needs to happen in certain circumstances to make things
accessible in regard to it, but I need to step out of that to take into
account, other disabilities as well. So it takes work on my part to promote as
much inclusivity as possible in the work that I do. So developers really need
to take initiative to be thoughtful and considerate and really learn about
their customers’ needs in the design process and follow through with that in
development and testing.

It’s not always easy, and inspiration goes a long way to getting developers
interested in what they can do and letting them realize that these are not
necessarily insurmountable hurtles. There are a lot of tools out there and
sometimes it just takes making developers aware that true accessibility is
possible without breaking the bank. :)

Sometimes, a coder might be very inspired to help but they may feel that they
themselves know the absolute best way that something should be done. this as we
all have seen, can go super horribly. So it’s important to encourage good,
positive dialogue and keep that inspiration alive and help guide them at the
same time.

Anyway, enough from me! lol! You all already know this. :)

I’ll get off my soap box now. :)

thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Cara

Re: Tips about Forza Horizon 5 -was- Re: [blind-gamers] I have another question witch epople have found better x box? or ps 5?

2023-08-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi again, just a quick update:

Regarding when characters are talking about stories or giving you choices of
events to go to, In the case of a choice, pressing A should set a route to the
first choice.

In the case of a story, if the character isn’t giving you a choice then I’ve
found that they usually set a route for you automatically. So you should not
press A at that point and just try driving. You should find that Anna will be
guiding you.

Again, it’s not friendly and it would have been so simple to implement fixes
for this sort of thing but I hope these tips help and don’t cause more
confusion. :)

I found a lot of this by just trial and error.

Hope this helps at least somewhat. :)

Cheers!

2023-08-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Mich, thanks for sending this!

I saw the post about Copilot. I absolutely cannot wait for this. This is a
seriously great feature on X-Box and I’m super happy to see this coming to PS-5.

There are several games that I play with a friend on X-Box where this feature
is a God-send. I even play Project Cars 2 and Forza Horizon 5 this way
sometimes. When I’m not using autosteering on Forza and my friend would like to
play also, he’ll steer and I’ll manage excelleration, braking and shifting. So
it’s super fun! :)

This also works well for games which are accessible for certain things and not
others, or where I may be better at some parts of a game and someone else may
be better at another. It’s also just a lot of fun to play with someone. So very
happy to see this!

Cheers!

Tips about Forza Horizon 5 -was- Re: [blind-gamers] I have another question witch epople have found better x box? or ps 5?

2023-08-04 Thread Cara Quinn
able to join these to progress in the game that way.

You can pretty much guarantee finding races like this if you choose a point
really far away from where you are. When you open the map, you will be pointing
at your position. So if you use the D-Pad and hold a direction, wait for a
couple of seconds, and then press A, you should then have a pretty long route
set and you should find several events that you can participate in along the
way.

I still use this method to park at a place on the beach that I like.

I go to a particular race event and then just move the cursor all the way to
the right on the map and set a route there. This gets me to a particular place
on the beach on the east coast of the map.

I hope this helps for now. If you can give me any more details I may be able to
be more specific.

I’ll see if I can find anything useful that I said on the list a few months
back.

Best of luck!

Have a great weekend, and Happy Driving!

Cheers!

Mich,

Just my opinion, but if PS-5 is what you’re after, you really don’t need the
built-in drive unless you either have older PS games that you’d like to import
or if you want to play movies like you mentioned.

I’ll revisit the Blu-ray player to see if everything is accessible on it. I
tried it when I got the console but at the time I was not completely familiar
with navigating it with the controller so I will need to look at it again. I
will let you know what I find.

Regarding X-Box, you can set it up independently from what I remember. If I
remember correctly, the keystroke to turn on Narrator works right out of the
box so it’s really no biggie.

Anyway, have a great evening and best of luck with what you decide. Will write
when I have more info.

2023-08-03 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Mich,

I have no idea about the Spiderman games and I’m wondering about them myself.

I have not heard anything definitive on this which brings up a really important
point I think.

This has come up here before, but the concept of accessibility is kind of a
pain the way it is used when people are describing games.

For example, when I was looking up info on Hogwarts Legacy, it looked, for all
intents and purposes that the game could be played without sight but that’s
just not the case, unless I’m missing some really basic features somewhere. :)

I can get through the menus and such but as I mentioned, the most basic
features of assisted navigation or having any kind of audio guides etc are just
not there. So I can’t find any way at present to really play the game without
assistance right from the start.

So calling this game accessible is a no go in my opinion.

Anyway, so far, from what I’ve read on the Spiderman games, I can’t find
anything that specifically says that it has features that would be necessary or
even helpful in actual game-play for someone playing without any sight at all.

I’ll give the site you mentioned a look and see if I’ve missed anything though.
I’m very curious.

Thanks Mich, if I find out anything more about any of the games in this thread,
I’ll be sure to let you know.

Have a great day!

Cheers!

also, on X-Box, there are The Vale - Shadow of the Crown, A Western Drama, and
Forza Horizon 5.

A Western Drama is fair at best, in my opinion, but is specifically designed
for blind folks.

I have The Vale - Shadow of the Crown, but have not gotten into it yet. I
believe it is also specifically designed to be played without sight, as it has
no graphics to speak of.

Forza Horizon 5 is my favorite game at the minute, (and it has been for some
time now) but I would say, is somewhat accessible. There are a few sticking
points in the game but once you get past them and learn how the game works, you
can certainly enjoy about 75 percent of it accessibly. It’s far from perfect
but It really is very good for a mainstream racing experience.

I’m also looking forward to the release of the next Forza Motorsport.

Regarding PS-5, Really, the only games I’ve found so far to be completely
accessible, are the Last of Us 1 and 2.

I’m also playing Hogwarts Legacy with a friend and while it is sort of
accessible in some ways, it lacks some crucial features for simple in-game
navigation which really make it close to impossible to play without sight.

Hogwarts Legacy is also available on X-Box but right now I’m only playing it on
PS-5. If I try it on X-Box and find that it’s any better, I will certainly let
y'all know.

I’m trying to research other truly blind-accessible games for PS-5 at the
minute as well, so I am also interested in other’s experiences with this.

Hope this helps and have a great day!

2023-05-16 Thread Cara Quinn
HI Michael and All,

Michael, thanks for your note.

As an XBox owner myself, while it would certainly be great to have more
accessible titles on the platform, I’m just not sure I may be explaining the
situation as clearly as I can, and I’m sorry for that.

When I say we do not have the resources for cross-platform development, it’s
not as if we do not have access to actual machines if we needed them.

What I mean is that in regard to our development time, we would not be able to
manage all of the hours that would need to go into this work.

this isn’t even getting into payment for our time.

So regarding porting titles to XBox when we would already not be able to
continue Windows development is just not in the cards as things stand right now.

I’ve been on this list a while, as you all have, and I can’t help but note that
this type of discussion seems to come up again and again over the years, and I
have to wonder why this is?

anyone developing games for this community, whether they be an individual or a
company, seems to run into the same questions / concerns. Why is this?

Draconis is an ongoing endeavor which we would love to have as a main source of
support for us and our families in our day-to-day work. We simply cannot make
that happen if we’re constantly asked to basically give up everything that we
have and all past efforts as a donation.

Yes, there are some circumstances that would absolutely warrant this. If we
were no longer supporting these games at all, for example, but this is not the
case. We are simply porting these titles from Microsoft to Apple.

If we gave away everything that the company has, then how would we be able to
do anything for the community at all? -let alone attempt to sustain the company?

In all seriousness, short of finding an angel investor, there is usually no way
to develop for the blind community in any kind of a sustainable way.

If you or anyone else has leads on funding that could assist us, I would
absolutely be open to suggestions.

Again, this is absolutely a serious question. We would certainly be open to
real avenues that would sustain the company for growth and further development
efforts.

I hope this offers a bit more clarity and discourse on this.

thanks again for your suggestions and please feel free to continue the great
discussion.

Cheers!

Hi all,

First off, let me thank you for all of the support we’ve gotten in regard to
our announcement today.

It really means a lot to us and really is an inspiration as we move forward.

We also want to extend our understanding and apologies to all of you who feel
excluded or left out. This is absolutely not our intention, and I hope that is
obvious. :) We would never dream of making members of our own community feel
that way.

Our decision really has to come down to what we can and can’t provide. As we
mentioned, we are a small company and we want to do the best we can to continue
to provide the highest-quality products that we can produce, so that we can
offer the rich gaming experience that you’ve come to expect from us, and that
we hold ourselves to offering.

Regarding the platforms that we will be available on; We are not limiting
ourselves to any one of the Apple platforms. For now, change Reaction and
Silver Dollar are available on the Mac because of their older code-base. We are
planning to update these to bring them to all apple platforms. Going forward,
we are planning on all titles being available on all Apple platforms. The only
exception to this might be the Apple Watch as some games may not be appropriate
for the small format. So I hope this clears this up.

Again, our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We sure hope that
you choose to come along for the ride with us. As I said, your support and
excitement really go a long way to keeping us doing what we do.

We hope you’ll be with us on this journey.

Cheers!

[blind-gamers] A Dragon Reborn

2023-05-15 Thread Cara Quinn
It's been a long while, but it's finally time to announce the start of a new
chapter for Draconis Entertainment, LLC. The dragon is awakening yet again!

This new incarnation of the company brings big and exciting changes. We will
explain those and some of our plans for the future here, but know that we
aren't spilling all the beans quite yet. What fun would that be!

The world has moved on!

Our first announcement is that we are bringing new and enhanced versions of our
classic games, along with brand-new titles, into the modern age and on to Apple
platforms, with an emphasis on iPhone! Thanks to VoiceOver, the overwhelming
majority of the visually impaired community has access to at least one of
Apple's operating systems, and this will make our games available to the widest
possible audience. It's hard to believe sometimes, but that little rectangle of
glass we all carry in our pockets has infinitely more power than any of the PCs
or Macs that our legacy titles were developed on, and with the tight
integration of Apple's operating systems, we will be able to easily make new
releases available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, or AppleTV going forward. This
approach means that we can integrate newer technologies like full 3D spatial
audio, touch and accelerometer interaction, and support for console game
controllers and advanced haptics.

What does this mean for our Windows products?

We know how beloved these games have been over the years—we love them too—and
we want to bring all of them, with expansions and new features, into the
twenty-first century, so they can be enjoyed by new and old generations of
gamers alike. The support cost for the original Windows games, some of which
were new when Nintendo 64 was the hot ticket and Xbox didn't yet exist, is
simply too high to manage for a small company like us, while also investing in
the future.

We will be bringing our Windows development to a close and giving these games
new life on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and AppleTV. That said, for the time being, we
will continue to offer downloads of the installation packages for our legacy
catalog on our site, and customers who purchased them may request replacement
keys within reason. (For more details, see the Legacy section of our new
website at https://draconis.llc.)

Back in March, the legacy Draconis Score Server (DSS) and Draconis Online
License Factory (DOLF) for the Windows versions of ChangeReaction 2 and
SilverDollar, migrated to a new host and received some modernization. As you've
already seen, this brought much needed stability to both of those services.

So what’s up first?

With all of that in mind, we're pleased to introduce major updates to the Mac
versions of ChangeReaction and SilverDollar. Freed from the cross-platform
constraints of developing for both macOS and Windows, we have been able to add
some new features to these titles. The most exciting of which is full-support
for any of the console game controllers supported by Apple platforms. These
include the PlayStation DualShock 4 or DualSense 5, the Xbox X / S controllers,
the Nintendo Switch JoyCons, any MFI controller, and others. SilverDollar now
includes a great deal of new and remastered audio, support for Apple Silicon,
and countless bug fixes and tweaks.

These upgraded titles will be available as free updates to anyone who purchased
them previously from the Mac App Store. SilverDollar 2.0 is out now and is
available for free. ChangeReaction 3.0 will have its price reduced to $4.99 in
the US when it is reintroduced in the coming weeks. (Prices will vary based on
exchange rates.)

Looking forward, the development to bring a mix of new and familiar titles to
life is well-underway, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working
on! The future is bright.

We know the dragon has been sleeping for a very long time. We appreciate your
patience and support more than we can say. Thank you for the last twenty years.
We hope you'll join us as the dragon is reborn.

Cheers!

Cara

[blind-gamers] Draconis Score and License Server Move

2023-03-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well.

I just want to let you all know that we have moved the Draconis score and
license servers. This is purely a back-end modification and there is nothing
that anyone needs to do in response to this.

hopefully this will not impact any customers in any way, but if anyone does
notice any unusual behaviors, please let us know right away so we can address
them.

Thank you all so much and please have a great day!

Cheers!

Re: [blind-gamers] Switching Game Modes in Silver Dollar

2023-02-21 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi kelly,

The Christmas mode comes on automatically in December and you can also type
“hohoho” (without the quotes) at the main menu and press enter.

Enjoy! :)

Cheers!

[blind-gamers] Creating Custom race Events in Forza Horizon 5

2022-07-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Happy Fourth of July for those who celebrate! :)

I wanted to post on how we can create a custom event using Event Lab in FH5.

The process I discuss below uses Forza standard routes but I was also able to
create my own custom route yesterday. So will also detail that in yet another
separate note, since it would make this note even longer than it will be
already! :)

So anyway, without further ado, here is how to create a basic custom event in
Forza Horizon 5.

This is actually quite a bit simpler than I thought and is accessible with a
couple of caveats.

To create a customized event that you and other players can play through Event
Lab, the first thing you will need to do is to travel to an existing race event
and enter the event by pressing the X button on your controller once you arrive.

• Click the Solo option

• Move one group to the left for Event Lab. In that group you will have options
called Event Lab Creations and Create Blueprint. Choose Create Blueprint

• After choosing create blueprint, you will choose Car Theme. Here you are
choosing the types of cars you would like to allow in the event. There are a
number of options in this screen including type of car, year of manufacture
etc. This can be pretty confusing if you’re not familiar with it but all of it
seems accessible from what I’ve seen so far. Personally, I just choose options
to allow all cars at this point because I want the ability to use any car I
like when I participate in the event.

• Choose Car Class. I believe if you have chosen all cars on the previous
screen this option may automatically be set to Open Class. This is what I
personally choose. Again, this allows all cars to be used in your event.

Once you’ve chosen these options, you will be placed in the main list of
settings for your event. This list consists of the following options:

• Edit Name

• Description

• Create / Choose Route (this menu is usable but has accessibility issues which
I will discuss below)

• Event settings (contains a list of options which I will discuss below)

• Car themes (should be the theme you've already chosen)

• Music choices (this menu does not seem to be accessible but you can preview
specific songs and choose them if you wish)

• Rules of play. (This menu does not appear to be accessible)

The last bit in this list are the Test Drive and Publish buttons. By default,
focus lands on the Test Drive button and using your D Pad to move one click to
the right, you will land on the Publish button. You will need to Test your
route first before you can publish it.

So now, to elaborate on a few menu options above; the Create / Choose Route
option allows you to either choose an existing game route to follow or create
your own. While this menu is not narrated, there is something to note here. You
are automatically placed on the Create Route option. This is important to
remember. This option is actually accessible but its title is also not
narrated. In this case, we will choose an existing route from the game. So to
do this, you would use your D Pad to move to the right or left, bearing in mind
the position of the Create Route option.

These route options are not narrated but you will hear clicks to indicate each
one. Once you choose one, you will be asked if you’d like to fast-travel there.
Say yes to this and you will travel to that event location and also be placed
back in the menu to continue setting up the event.

If you now look at the Create / Choose Route option, you will see the name of
the route you chose and it is narrated. It would certainly be a lot easier if
these routes were announced on the previous screen but I’m glad they are at
least announced here once you’ve chosen one.

As I mentioned above, I will discuss creating your own route in another note.

Okay, so now on to the Event Settings option; clicking on this option will open
a new menu of settings for your event. These are as follows:

• Drivetar difficulty

• Maximum number of drivetars

• Weather / Time of day mode (custom or free-roam) If this is set to free-roam,
the menu skips the next two options and goes right to Time Progression.

• Time of day

• Weather

• Time progression (rolling or fixed)

• Rewind (on or off)

• Locked camera

• Traffic (on or off)

• Keyword one

• Keyword two

• Performance class (which you would have set before)

• Confirm button (which is accessible but not narrated) You will need to click
this button to save your changes and return to the previous menu to continue
setting up your event. Pressing the B button without pressing the Confirm
button first brings you back to the previous menu and discards your changes.

So now that you have all of your options set for your event, the fun part is to
Test Drive your route. You simply click the Test Drive button and you will
start your event like you would start any other race in the game. However, you
will have all of your custom settings active.

[blind-gamers] Share Codes for my Events -was- Re: Updates and my first Event Lab test track

2022-07-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

Happy Friday eve!

I was able to create a second event and I also now have both share codes for
these.

Unfortunately, as I’d suspected, the share codes themselves are not accessible.
Go figure. So I needed sighted assistance to read it. It may be possible to use
OCR to get this but I’m on an XBox and so I will see if I can use my phone
tomorrow to read these and let y’all know how it goes.

I’ll also post a note tomorrow to go through the steps to create a new event.
It will be a longish note so rather than post it now, I’ll check back in on the
‘morrow. :)

For now, here are the share codes for both events I’ve created today. Will also
detail these a bit more in my next note.

Cara 1 share code: 182 276 379

Cara 2 share code: 439 824 962

Hope you like these if you check them out.

Cheers and talk soon!

Cara

Updates and my first Event Lab test track -was- Re: [blind-gamers] Forza Horizon 5 - Event Lab

2022-07-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey again All,

Hope you’re all having a lovely Friday!

Thought some might be interested to know that I found out how to make a test
track today and the process is doable without sight. As usual though, it seems
with FH5, there are a couple of areas which are not friendly. Go figure! lol!

Anyway, to get right to the point, if you’d like to try this track out; if you
go to the search area I mentioned before where you land on the Confirm button
and you can search on a share code, I found today that if you use the D Pad to
go up further, you will find many options you can search on.

in this case, since it seems that I can’t find a share code for my event
(probably due to inaccessibility) you can actually just search on the event
name. So for my track, it is simply called Cara 1

So you’d go up in the search menu all the way to the top and press the A button
on the Event Title option. This will bring up a standard XBox keyboard and you
would type in “Cara 1” and then click enter with the A button.

Then, just use the D Pad to go all the way back down the search menu until you
get to the Confirm button and click that. YOu should then see a search results
group with only my event in it. I’ll send along the share code when I can find
it.

Anyway, this is a road racing circuit event and there are no drivetars and no
traffic so you can just drive. This event has 3 laps and you can use any car
you like. Also, just as a note, any car class above the high S1 range will most
likely require you to slow down a bit at the corners. These corners can
occasionally be tight so just be aware of it.

I will post another note either tonight or tomorrow to share the details of
exactly how I did this. it’s not difficult but I need to check on a couple of
specific steps so I don’t give you the wrong info. :)

I’m super new to the process so I really want to make sure I am completely
clear on it before I share it.

Thanks, and for now, I hope you enjoy the event if you try it!

Cheers!

[blind-gamers] Forza Horizon 5 - Event Lab

2022-07-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

I just found another feature of Forza Horizon 5 which at first appeared to be
not super friendly but I’ve just found a very cool work-around which makes this
available to us.

It is the Event Lab which features tracks and races of all types, created by
the Forza community. You can get to these events but neither the groups that
contain them generally announce their titles nor the options themselves for
each event. So it’s really hit or miss.

However, I’ve just found that the search feature for these events is accessible
and each event has a unique race code that you can search on to get to that
event directly. So this is kind of a huge deal, as it means that we now have
access to all sorts of community-created races and tracks etc, and we do not
need to use the map or travel across the world to get to these events anytime
we like.

This is all available from the pause menu from anywhere in the game. For those
who may not know, you get to the pause menu by pressing the menu button on your
controller.

Once you are in the pause menu, you get to the event lab by first moving to the
Creative Hub group using the right or left buttons on an XBox controller. I do
not know which keys this would be on PC. -My apologies.

I can’t remember at the minute if the Creative Hub group announces itself via
the screen reader but if it does not, the options in it do. So you would just
locate the Event Lab option using the D pad and activate it by pressing A.

Once you’re in the Event Lab, you will see two options which you can navigate
between using the D Pad. I’m not in front of the game just now, but I believe
these options are Blueprints and My Designs. I’ll verify this tomorrow and
re-post if necessary.

Anyway, the option you want is Blueprints. This option contains all of the
comunity-based tracks and races. These are divided into groups, but only the
first and last groups are spoken. You can still navigate between them and
choose races within them, but the races will not announce their titles. So you
cannot tell which event you are picking.

This is where the above work-around comes in; As I’d mentioned, each event has
a code associated with it and you can find these codes on the web. (Youtube etc)

Once you are in the Blueprints section, you can go to the search area by
pressing the View button on your controller. You should hear an option called
Confirm. If you navigate up once with the D Pad, you should then hear a search
edit field announced. You can click on this by pressing the A button and a
search keyboard will open, which uses Narrator so we can access it.

If you enter the search code for the event you want, and then click enter, you
will get a search results group which should contain the option you’re looking
for. If you just click the A button you will enter the event.

I believe you can press Y in place of A if you would like to favorite the
event. I’ll get to this again in a minute.

For now though, once the event starts, it should be announced like any normal
race would, so you can race like you usually do, but now we have access to a
vast amount of community based events that do not require any use of the map or
any travel to locate.

Okay, so now on to favorites, when I was mentioning the groups in the
Blueprints section earlier, I mentioned that only the first and last groups
seem to be announced. The first group (all the way to the left) is the highest
rated races (I can’t remember the exact name just now) and the last group (all
the way to the right) is called History. This screen may be confusing, as you
will still hear clicks if you keep moving to the right after you reach the
History group. There are no more groups though and you will actually stay on
the History group so just bear this in mind.

So now, if you navigate to the History group and then go one to the left with
the D Pad, you will land on the Favorites group. Even though this group and its
options are not narrated, your favorites are here and they should be in the
order in which you favorited them. You can access these using the D Pad as you
normally would. So this is sort of a quicker way to get to these without
needing to type in the race code each time.

I’ve not used the History group yet but this also might work.

If you like, here is a race code to get you started. This track is actually
basically kind of a test track that you can race on alone. This one is actually
meant for people wanting to get lots of points and credits using the
auto-steering feature. I found this accidentally so thought I would give it a
try and see if this was accessible for us. It turns out that it is, and this is
a perfectly legit race.

The race code is 966 452 663.

A few words of warning / advice though; I believe this track is meant for class
S 1 or 2 cars but for some reason when I started the race, it only let me
choose the Jesko that I was currently driving, which is an X class

Re: [blind-gamers] F1 Manager 2022

2022-06-20 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi there, my apologies, but I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking? Are you
wanting a link to F1 manager? I’m actually talking about Forza horizon five,
which is an Xbox game. I brought it up on this thread because it’s also a
racing game, and I thought the original poster might be interested in it. I’m

Re: [blind-gamers] F1 Manager 2022

2022-06-16 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Juan,

Regarding the game play; if you're already familiar with the Forza Horizon
series? The game takes place in an open world environment in and around a
fictional racing and music festival. In this version, the Horizon Festival is
in Mexico. So the map offers many environments based on the various Mexican
landscapes.

In the case of FH5, we now have spoken menus (with several caveats) and an
Accessibility menu of options which allow us to independently play several
portions of the game.

Unfortunately, the game has quite a few rough edges regarding full access to
someone without any sight but conversely, also allows us to really experience a
lot of enjoyment and get a lot out of the game.

I’ve posted before on the map so for more details on this, you may want to go
back in the threads over the last couple of weeks on this. If you can’t locate
the earlier messages, just let me know and I can re-post some of my earlier
notes on this.

Essentially though, even though the map is not technically accessible without
sight, there are a couple of game features which make it somewhat usable for us.

Also, the game as a GPS system and driving assists which allow us to
independently drive from place to place in the game and take part in races. The
full driving assistance uses the game’s own AI to drive our car for us.

the skill aspect of the interaction that we have in the game is limited, in the
sense that we don’t have a whole lot of control of our driving (when using full
assists) but we are able to choose the amount of driving assistance we use and
we also can override the assists to drive wherever we want at any time just by
manually steering. So we’re not limited to just being a spectator as it were.
The spatial audio is nothing short of amazing so we can be as active as we
choose when it comes to racing while still letting the AI get us through the
checkpoints during the race.

Also, we can actively steer our vehicle out of situations where we may be stuck
etc, or if we just want to go off of the GPS route. I often go off-road during
skill songs to get points by drifting etc. Once I then let the AI take control
of the car again, it will get me back to the road and the route that I was on
originally.

There are also stories in the game, which are made up of shorter, more guided
activities which contain a lot of narration and description of what is going on
and what we’re expected to do. Other folks may have more feedback here, as I’ve
only done just a few stories but from what I’ve seen so far, just relying on
the AI here is usually all that is required, but within that context, there are
other aspects of stories that do need other interactions from us that we may be
able to do. Overall though, since these are described so well, these scenarios
are very cool and fun.

There are unfortunately, way more menus that are not narrated than I’d like to
see, but some of this can be gotten around anyway. So for now, I’m still very
much supportive of this game and I think this really shows what just a few
added features can do for us. -Especially for something like a driving game in
this vein. Considering that this is a current and very popular game in this
genre, for us to have the level of access to this that we do is seriously
amazing!

anyway, hope this helps and gives you some insights into this. If you need more
specifics just let me know and I or someone else can respond.

Thanks Juan and have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Hey Joshua, you have to be at a festival location and then it’s in the Toon car
menu. I’m not in front of the game just now but I think it’s called auto
upgrade. When you’re on the pause menu, locate the go to home option and then
you can access the auto upgrade from that tune car menu. Hope that makes sense.

Incidentally, I tried updating the Hoonigan before the on a wing and a prayer
event and it wouldn’t let me. I have the car in my collection also, just like
you do, so I haven’t yet tried updating there, rather than at the actual event.
I’m not sure if that would matter. Also, I’m not even sure if it will allow a
different car in that particular race. Haven’t checked yet.

I’m very curious about this so I will let you know more when I do.

Have an awesome evening!

Cheers!

Hi Nick,

Welcome to the list. I don’t post often but have been doing so a bit more of
late.

I too love racing games and have just discovered that Forza Horizon 5 is
somewhat accessible, so this might be something you’re interested in. One or
two others here on the list are also playing it.

it’s definitely not perfect (with quite a few rough edges) but with a bit of
persistance, it can be quite a fun driving / racing experience.

If you’re interested and would like to know more, I can share more details. -or
someone else may chime in as well. Just let us know.

Have a great day and enjoy the list!

Re: [blind-gamers] Forza 5: Runaway Success Reward

2022-06-08 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Joshua,

Ah, I actually thought that the plane always won as well. Where did you find
that award? I looked in achievements but did not see it.

i would probably start by seeing if you can Auto-Upgrade the recommended car
for that race. I believe it is a Hoonigan of some flavor?

Have you checked to see if there ar any available upgrades for it?

I let the game Auto-upgrade a 2013 SRT Viper and it did a fab job! So looking
at upgrades for the recommended vehicle for that race might be helpful before
trying a different car.

Just some thoughts…

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

Re: [blind-gamers] No joy from Draconis

2022-06-06 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi David,

You’re contacting Draconis right now. :) I’m officially part owner of the
company at this point.

I absolutely understand your concerns and just know that you’re being heard and
that this actually does matter to us.

As I mentioned to Joshua, we hope to have some announcements this summer so
please stay tuned. It really does mean a lot to us that you and others are
still showing support for Draconis and are still enjoying the games!

Now, regarding reseting activations, since this was all set up way before my
time with the company, you’d be far better served looking in the game manual
itself.

Again, I’m also not a windows user so I do not know where to tell you to start
with this.

If you cannot find anything in your game manual on this, let me know (either
on-list or privately) and I’ll see if I can find anything on my end that will
get you started.

My apologies I can’t be of more help just at the minute. I don’t have any info
for this in front of me just now.

Best of luck and please let me know if you need me to do some research on this
end.

Thanks David and have a great day!

Cheers!

Cara

2022-06-06 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Trahern,

While not the game types you’re asking about, right now, the titles we have
available for Mac are Change Reaction and Silver Dollar Saloon. These should be
back in the App Store in the next few weeks, with a little luck. :)

It looks like Apple has pulled them due to them not requiring updates in a year
or two.

I’ll post here when I have a more firm date on re-release.

Thanks Trahern, and have a great day!

Cheers!

Hey David,

I meant to send this earlier this past weekend but life happened. -Apologies.

Draconis is most definitely still alive so no worries on making a purchase if
you like.

Regarding Change Reaction; Personally, since I am a Mac person rather than
Windows, I cannot offer specifics on how to do this, but one possibility may be
that you’ve used up your activations for the game and may need to reset them?
Have you checked this?

We will be digging into the server a bit deeper later this week so if I learn
anything else, I’ll let you know.

For now though, I hope this helps.

Re: [blind-gamers] Using the Map and accolades on Forza Horizon 5 (XBox)

2022-06-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey Joshua!

Awesome! Very glad you are getting going with this! :)

I pretty much always find that I need to turn around or back out of an event. I
kind of wish that the game would just do that for you automatically but I think
it leaves you exactly where you were when you arrived, so that is why you’re
probably seeing this sort of thing happen.

I deal with it too. :) I usually just back out or slowly turn around so that
the AI can have time to pick up steering.

Then, when I’m back out on the road, I’ll accelerate.

Yes, the left trigger is reverse.

I think you’ll always finish second in On a Wing and a Prayer; You’re racing an
airplane so it’s always going to win in this case. :) You may beat the bikes
but the plane will always win.

BTW, how did you know you were second? Did you have some sighted assistance? I
ask because I’ve done the event more than once on purpose, (both with and
without sighted assistance) so we were able to see that we came in second after
the plane but the screen reader doesn’t announce that. So I was just wondering
if you found a magic setting that announces this sort of thing! :) I would
love it if you did.

I’m about to go and play for a while now with a friend and I’ll also test a
possible way to use the map filters to have Anna direct you to different
classes of race. So we’ll see if this works.

Anyway, happy driving and hope you’re having a great weekend!

Cheers!

Cara

Re: [blind-gamers] Using the Map and accolades on Forza Horizon 5 (XBox)

2022-06-04 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Zack,

First off, my apologies for my late response. :)

I’m glad you got through the opening game scenes.

Were you able to activate all of the assists in the difficulty menu?

If not, then you should definitely go there and look at the assists that are
available. The most important one is steering.

Congratulations. If you’re hearing Anna then you’ve successfully set a route so
cool beans! :)

If you have steering assist set to auto steer, then you can accelerate with the
right trigger and the game’s AI should steer for you. This does not mean that
you will never find yourself in a situation that you will need to steer out of,
it just means that during most of your driving, the game will manage it for you
and will get you where you need to go almost all of the time. -And, pretty much
you can absolutely rely on this in races and most of the time in stories. I’ve
never needed to manually get myself out of a jam in a race but have needed to
do this in stories.

I focus mainly on drifting at crazy speeds and stunt driving, as well as doing
races but may attempt more stories as time goes on. :) We’ll see. One cool
thing with Anna, is that for Danger Signs, which are locations in the game
where you can do jumps and such, Anna seems to guide you right to the ramp
itself and all the way up it as you make the actual jump. So it is just crazy
fun! lol! :)

Anyway, while the game AI that drives you, is really really good (amazing
actually) it’s not perfect and some of that is by design. So occasionally,
you’ll need to listen to your environment etc and may need to make some of your
own adjustments if you find yourself stuck.

This can happen if you get into a bad accident by traveling too fast etc.

Sometimes all you need to do is to simply back up and then ease forward again
and the game’s AI will continue steering you in the right direction for the
route you are presently on.

Hope all of this is helpful.

Cheers!

Cara

2022-06-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hey Joshua,

Glad you were able to get some help to get to what you wanted. Sorry it was
such a pain. The game does have its issues and I’m not justifying them, but it
is definitely doable and is really fun if you really like driving. Again, I’m
not playing with someone sighted because I need to for the game, I’m just
playing with them because it’s fun! :) -You understand. -But yes, the game
could definitely be a whole lot friendlier to those of us who need it. :)

The game absolutely will let you go to events in any order you choose. I know
because I did a showcase event race before I did either of the accolades I
mentioned. The game absolutely does not force you to do the story. If you want
to find the showcase I did first, it is called On a Wing and a Prayer, and if
you are with someone sighted, there will be an airplane on the map where it is.

Regarding the map, I actually use the map almost all of the time and usually do
not use Anna directly. This is without sighted help.

You’re right in that it is not just moving left or right, or moving around
randomly. What I was suggesting was that you move up or down the map in left /
right rows with the D pad. Depending on how much you are showing on the map,
this is not super difficult or time consuming as there can be a lot of things
actually showing.

So I do not usually need to go very far unless I really filter the map down to
one specific category with very few points on it. Otherwise, I can usually find
an event or race to go to pretty quickly.

If you just hold down the left or right D pad your cursor will move all the way
across the map in that direction. If you then click up or down once or twice,
and then go back the opposite way (left or right) you will make another row
across the map. The cursor moves pretty fast so this does not take much time at
all. -And, you will hear a click when you get to an important location. So if
you just stop there and drop a pin, you should be fine, and Anna will
automatically be set to that location when you exit the map.

Yes, you can choose any location on the map and Anna will take you there, even
if it is out in the middle of nowhere. I like to do this a lot because I find
cool things. :) It is also possible to find events along the way that you can
participate in. While Anna won’t announce them, the screen reader should
announce these as you pass them and tell you to press X to enter the event. If
you press X quickly or are able to stop quickly and then press it, you should
be able to enter that event before you pass it. If you miss it, you can also
back up and the screen reader should announce it for you. As I said this game
is far from perfect, but it is definitely fun if you can come to terms with
it’s quirks.

The Welcome to Mexico group of accolades is exactly what you should be seeing
at this point and you should be able to enter those accolades from there. I was
able to do this myself. I’ll check back in tomorrow and detail this further if
you need me to. Very glad you were able to make progress today! :) Have a great
evening!

Cheers!

2022-06-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Zachary,

Glad I could inspire you to try it! :)

As I’d mentioned to Joshua, it’s definitely not perfect but I’m finding it to
be super fun and a bit more accessible than folks seem to be saying online.

My original post was meant for those who were already familiar with the game
but if you’re not, I want to mention right away, about how to actually get the
accessibility features active because the game is absolutely horrible in that
regard, and I want to save you and others the frustration I had.

When you start the game, you need to press the X button on the controller to
get into the Accessibility menu. What I do, is press D pad up three times. (You
should hear little clicks as you move through menu options) This should get you
to the screen reader option. Once there, press D pad right once and then press
the menu button. This should cause the screen reader to then be activated.

If this does not work, then you may need to get sighted help as it may have
placed you in the Settings menu rather than straight into Accessibility. If
this is the case, you will most likely be focused on the Difficulty menu, which
is one option above Accessibility. So in this case, you would need to go down
one option and then press A to enter the Accessibility menu. From there you can
just follow the above instructions and you should be good to go.

I hope this makes some sort of sense. They really dropped the ball in this
regard so I wish you the very best of luck and here’s hoping you get the screen
narration active easily! :)

Once you have speech going, you will want to locate the Difficulty menu and go
in there.

What I did when starting out was simply to change two things:

I changed the Drivetar difficulty to Tourist and also set the profile to All
assists. This will set your driving assist to Auto Drive.

This way you will be able to automatically follow routes that Anna guides you
on.

I hope this helps and as I’d mentioned earlier in the thread, I’ll definitely
post when / if I learn anything new that may be of more help.

Happy Driving! :)

Cheers!

Re: [blind-gamers] Using the Map and accolades on Forza Horizon 5 (XBox)

2022-06-02 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Joshua,

Were you able to actually go to any other events?

I meant to say last night, that the game is not linear. So you can go to
whatever is available to you anytime you want. This is the way the game is
meant to be played. When they announce an accolade to you like that, it doesn’t
mean that you need to do that right then. It just means that it is available to
you. So basically, they’re just telling you that it is unlocked for you and
they’re also doing a bit of hand-holding so you know about that type of event
in future. You’re not missing anything by waiting on doing them.

You can also set routes to anywhere at all on the map even if there is no event
there at all. So you can actually drive anywhere on the map. This will help you
earn points and also help you possibly locate available events along the way
that you may not know about from the map yet.

You get points for going off-road in this game as well. It can be a little
disturbing if you’re like me and the sounds of car damage make you squeamish!
lol! it’s fun though and will earn you lots of points.

There’s really no way to completely avoid collisions in the game, as some of
the other drivers you’ll encounter can more than occasionally behave like
idiots! lol! -Even going so far as to occasionally smack into you when you’re
parked.

anyway, when I did the first accolade, (the one about the storm) I was playing
with a friend. (not because I needed the help, but because I was wanting to
share the game) Anna will still guide you and the photo mode is accessible as
well, by using D Pad up. So in that case, all you need to do is let her guide
you to the destination and then take a photo. So once you are able to access
this one, you should have no problem doing it.

For the Jaguar, I did some of it on my own and then picked it back up with a
friend later. Again, because I wanted to share the game, not because the story
wasn’t accessible. This one may be a bit more difficult without sight though. I
actually found items doing it on my own that my friend could not find, so this
one just takes a little more work than the first one all around, whether you
can see or not. Barn finds are not easy. I’m not sure if these will remain
accessible further on in the game because they are meant to be a little hard to
find and Anna just drops you in the general vicinity of them. So they just take
a lot of exploring. We’ll see if it’s more fun or frustration. :)

All of the other events that I’ve done so far, I’ve done by myself. So they are
definitely accessible at least to the point of being doable without sight. The
game is definitely not perfect in regard to accessibility but I keep being
surprised at what is actually available to us.

As I said, the game is not meant to progress linearly. There is so much to do
and so many different types of events, that there is always something new to do
or some place to explore.

Even just driving somewhere and listening to the game’s sound design can be
amazing! They put an incredible amount of work into this game. There’s also the
radio stations as well. If you use D pad right you can flip through the radio
stations as you drive.

I’ve set my audio for the car-centric profile which I believe, turns the radio
down a bit in favor of the car engine. You can adjust all of this in detail
though in the Audio menu as well.

Anyway, if I think of anything else that may help, I’ll send another note.

Hope this helps at least a bit and that the game is enjoyable to you.

Cheers!

Hi Joshua, I’ll look at this in the morning, but I believe that you can still
click on those points on the map. What happens if you locate those positions
that you can click on and set a route to one of them? Are you able to travel
there?

I think I remember having the same issue but for me, it let me click on another
place on the map and do a race. So I first did a race and then I did one of the
events.

So for me I didn’t do the story right away, I first did at least one race and
then I went back and did a part of the story. I don’t remember the exact order
but I remember that I was able to do races before I did the story.

Sorry for the frustration, as I said I’ll try to figure this out in the morning
and see if I can offer any more help.

Have a great night!

Ah, one more thing, when you’re in the filter screen and you’ve chosen a
filter, don’t forget to press the B button to exit back to the map so you can
search for what you want.

Re: [blind-gamers] Using the Map and accolades on Forza Horizon 5 (XBox)

2022-06-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Joshua,

I believe Stories is one of the categories in Accolades, so you’d probably be
better off going through there to locate the story you want and start it.

Regarding using the map, the filter menu is being read for me when I use D pad
down to navigate through it.

So you shouldn’t need to use OCR at all for this.

when you’re on the map, use the right bumper to get to the filter screen, and
then click the A button once to completely clear the map. If you have any
doubts about the current state of the map, you can reset it with X and then
clear it.

Anyway, once you’ve done that, then simply use D pad down and the screen reader
should simply read the available categories. Once you get to Stories, just
click that with the A button.

This will then show only the Story locations that are currently available to
you on the map.

So now when you scan the map using the D pad or the left stick, you should hear
a click when your cursor is over a story location. As soon as you hear the
click, stop moving your cursor and press A to drop a pin on the map.

Once you’ve done that, when you exit the map, Anna should start navigating you
to the location you’ve specified.

This works exactly the same way if you were to filter to show only the new
items available to you. In that case though, you would not know what the type
of location that your clicking on actually is. So with the other filters you
know exactly what type of location you’re seeing.

Unfortunately, I don’t know if there is a way to tell which story you’re
clicking on before you click it. Sometimes there will be a little spoken
announcement from the game, which relates to the story location you’ve just
chosen which is super helpful but this doesn’t seem to always happen. You can
always just click the A button again to clear that route and keep looking for
the story you actually want. This part is really hit and miss though so this
could be frustrating if you are looking for a specific story.

So again, I’d probably just use the Accolades menu for this.

Does this help?

Cheers!

Cara

I’d forgotten to mention that you can also easily clear a route from the map by
simply opening the map and then pressing the A button once. This should clear
whatever route you have set. So in this way, you will have no guidance at all
from Anna and you're free to explore.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

[blind-gamers] Using the Map and accolades on Forza Horizon 5 (XBox)

2022-06-01 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi All,

I just found out from a close friend a few days ago that Forza Horizon 5 is
essentially accessible; and since I love love LOVE driving games, I am super
excited! :)

Apologies in advance if any of this is old news to folks here. I have seen a
lot of people online wondering about these same things so I thought I would
share these tips that I’ve found here.

In the early parts of the game, I noticed that the map seemed to be a barrier
to moving forward for many people, myself included.

I’ve figured out since then though, that the map is actually somewhat usable so
I wanted to share it here, as I’ve seen others wondering how to move forward in
the earlier part of the game without sight as well.

So the first thing I’ve discovered (as some may already know) is that when you
pass your cursor over a designated game location on the map, there is a small
audible click. So if you stop your cursor there, and press the A button, you
will place a pin on the map and map a route to that location.

>From there, if you simply exit the map, Anna should then begin navigating you
>to that map point.

I use the D pad to move my cursor on the map. Personally, depending on how much
is currently visible on the map, I use a back and forth movement (row by row)
across the map to see what is there.

The next thing that I’ve discovered, is that you can actually place a pin on
any location on the map (whether it makes a click or not) and Anna will
navigate you there. So this can be helpful to find new places and also to find
game events possibly along the way, which you can enter if you choose.

There is also the map filter, which again, some may already know about. This is
also accessible. When you bring up the filter, you are positioned on the All
category. If you press A once to toggle this off, you will clear the map.

Next, if you use the D pad and move down the list of filter categories, you can
locate the category you’d like to show and then press A to only show those
locales on the map.

So now if you go back to the map and use your cursor again, you can hear the
same small clicks when you locate important game locations. -And, as before,
you can press A to set a route and then exit the map to begin navigation there.

If you need to reset the map to show everything again, you can use the X button
while in the filter screen.

At this point, the exception to this is Barn Finds. These do not seem to make a
sound when you pass over them. I’m still really early in the game so it may be
that these are not actually available to me yet. I don’t know. I was able to
get to one of them (the one with the Jag) but I have not figured out how. I’ll
post again if I learn more about this.

So now on to Accolades.

I’ve also figured out that the Accolades menu is actually usable even though it
says that it is not narrated.

If you enter the Accolades menu and it says that the menu is not narrated,
using the D pad, you can still hear a small click when you reach each group of
accolades. Even though these are not announced verbally, when you click on them
with the A button, they will be announced as you enter them. So for example,
the group you land on by default is called "Welcome to Mexico," which contains
the initial group of accolades. If you back out of that group and then move one
click to the right and click that group, you will hear “Expeditions.” This is
the group of accolades related to expeditions.

So in this way, you can actually move through the game accolades without sight.

I hope this is helpful to someone and I’ll post more tips when I find them.

Happy Driving All! :)

Cheers!

Cara

2020-05-15 Thread Cara Quinn
A big thanks Jody!

Couldn’t agree more!

I have not actively participated in this group for a while now but have been
lurking.

Liam’s GTA mod and Sable both sparked my attention.

Unfortunately, when I then started reading this thread, look what I found! lol!
-Lo and behold, I found the reason I tend not to be involved here as much as
I’d like.

Are we dealing with adults here or spoiled children? :)

Anyway, rant over and my apologies.

thanks again Jody for really laying this all out on the line. You rock! :)

Cheers!

Do we know if this is the actual game or the online version?

I believe Liam mentioned that the online version is not compatible with the
mod? Yes?

Cheers!
