Subject: [cfaussie] cfloop inside a cfif tag

Hi

I am building an online application form and the last page testes for which
fields across the multi pages of the application form

As the application form allows for multiple applicants some of the mandatory
fields only need to be checked dependant on whether there are more than one
applicant entered into the form

Each page of the application form captures the data entered and saves the data
into session variables to allow for the values entered across the application
form to remain present as the applicant moves through the various pages of the
application form .

If there is a second applicant loaded then session variables relating to the
seconds applicants data are defined

eg session.applicant2_firstname, session.applicant2_familyname

One the last page I test form mandatory fields with code similar to

cfif

cfloop index=-i from 1 to #total_applicants#
session.applicant#i#_firstname eq '' or session.applicant#i#_familyname eq
''/cfloop

or #loan_amount# eq ''

mandatory fields are missing

/cfif

I need to be abel to perform a cfloop within the cfif statement so that the
mandatory fields relating to the 2nd. 3rd or 4th applicants are only tested for
when the value for total_applicants is 2,3 or 4

I trust the above makes sense

I look forward to your suggestion to achieve the above

[cfaussie] Re: Weird Problem Element is Undefined problem

Hey Chong,

Also consider using the duplicate() function when copying your structure..

From what I understand, structCopy() may not create a deep copy of your
structure,
But rather a pointer to the original. So if you modify the original, it can
sometimes cause
some changes (desired or otherwise) in the copy.

Hi guys,

I am leaning towards a scope issue, probably caused by a extended cfc
having the identically named variable, i should really have checked
for that first... though it will be weird because I call another value
from the same struct a few lines before that with no dramas at all...

I will update you guys on what is the issue, once I find it.

Hi Everyone,
I am back to trying to fix my reporting issues and have been working
on it for the past three hours - and I have finally thrown the towell
in!

I am creating a structure, that stores the results of several queries.
if I dump the structure, (from the page that contains the cfreport
tag) I get an appropriate dump of a struct with the expected key-
value pairs.

I then use the struct as a reportparam.

cfreport
template=print_CAR.cfr
format=pdf
cfreportparam name=reportParamStruct
value=#reportParamStruct#
/cfreport

But I get the following error when I try and run this page;
Error evaluating expression : Source text :
param.reportParamStruct.problemdescription

I have tried with and without pound signs, I have also included a
print when condition that checks for the structure and its key
exisiting and that the key isn't an empty string.

seemingly no matter what I try - I still get the above error.

If anyone has any ideas at all - I would be most grateful.

I could never get a reliable result from the various 'parsedate'
functions...

In the end I wrote my own function to create dates from strings. It
looks for a variety of delimiters then extracts day, month, year; or
month, year, day; or even year, month, day; depending on how it was set
up.

The trick at the end is to use createDate(year, month, day) wrapped up
in a try/catch. If it throws an error then you have a problem.

[cfaussie] Re: Validating dates ... what's the trick?

2009-02-19 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Mike,

I used to use the 3 dropdowns method.. (now using jquery datepicker) but
used mmm for the month value.

Then validate something like this

isDate(#day#-#month#-#year#) which evaluates to isDate(31-Feb-2009)

There was no confusion between day and month this way..

Adam

Subject: [cfaussie] Re: Validating dates ... what's the trick?

The problem is i'm building the date from 3 dropdowns for day, month
and year, so the day dropdown has 1-31 on it. Therefore it's
possible to select 31/Feb/2009.

Then if you try to validate the date from the form, by feeding those
three values into the LSIsDate() function, or the IsValid(Date) or any
other date function, first of all you have to give those functions a
date object. To do that you use createdate() which chunders if you
give it 31/Feb/2009So therefore the function LSIHisDate can never be
tested on an invalid date (which is its main purpose for living after
all) .

This same point applies to IsDate() and IsValid(eurodate, ... and
IsValid(date, ... ) because they take a date object as an argument,
and you can't create an invalid date object.

Unless i'm missing something here, it seems that these date
validation functions have no use. The way you check validity of dates
is to either design the form so people can't enter invalid dates (e.g.
using a date picker) and/or using try/catch around the createdate()
function.

[cfaussie] Re: Building a web service - can you pass in XML or should the arguments be data typed

2008-11-10 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Matthew,

I second Steve on the point below.. I have pulled out many a hair trying to get
complex datatypes to send/parse correctly between different platforms. They work
nicely between CF and CF, but try with CF and .NET and the 'fun' begins.

All CF datatypes are converted to SOAP equivalents

So it says but i have seen time and time again issues with the soap
conversion and datatyping issues, especially with .NET

Using XML you know exactly what you are getting. Thats my reason.

@Steve, thanks again for replying. CF can handle complex data types no
problem. All CF datatypes are converted to SOAP equivalents (http://
livedocs.adobe.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/1547.htm#1186403).

As per my latest post it just seems crazy to have to write an
additional XML parser to deciffer the XML submitted by the client
(you'd need a whole lot of validation logic as well). Same goes for
sending the data back - why not just let CF covert the objects into
their equivalent SOAP datatypes.

I can't see any benefit for receiving XML packets and returning XML
packets!?!?!? Can anyone comment on reasons to do this?

Cheers
Matthew

Its either/or.  I preferred the XML way so that's the way it was built.  I
guess what I was trying to say in my last email is there isn't a
right/wrong
way, just what ever fits better with what you are trying to do.  Its
easier
to search xml than it is to try and parse arguments if some arguments are
not required to be passed in.  Also I don't know if you will have issues
with things like passing in arrays and stuff into the web service because
of
the data types possibly not being maintained in the request.  This is
where
XML is better as you don't need to worry about it and you can handle it
all
 in your web service.

@Steve, Thanks for the response but I don't think you've understood me
correctly. I'll try to explain myself again.

Perhaps there is a CF web service guru out there that can help?

When building a web service, should the input arguments be a single
XML document (which defines the input parameters) or should you just
have an argument for each parameter. Or are both options acceptable?
It makes more sense to me to have a argument for each parameter
otherwise if you have an XML doc as the input you have to write your
own XML parser / validator. This is all built right into CF when you
 choose access=remote.

I've been doing a little more reading and noted that you can
distribute your web service as an RPC (default in CF) or as document-
literal style. I think the RPC system is the way I've been discussing
and the document-literal style option is the alternative where you
pass in a full XML document. Is RPC easier but compatible with fewer
 technologies?

 Cheers

Filter=*.html|*.xml|*.txt

Alternatively (and less efficiently) you could use QoQ to exclude the
types you don't want.

Hi Chris,

The filter attribute only filters in matching files, e.g.

This will only list jpegs in a folder.

cfdirectory action=list
directory=#expandPath(Banners)#
name=BannerFolders
recurse=yes
type=dir
listinfo=name
filter=*.jpg /

Also, filter only allows one inclusion, but I need to exclude all
sorts of stuff like .svn, .dsStore, thumbs.db

[cfaussie] Coldspring Best Practice

2008-06-18 Thread Adam Chapman
Hi All,

I have started implementing Coldspring into an app I'm working on and I
was after some opinions on the best way to call the beans.

This is a fusebox 5.5 (noXml) implementation.

My main aim is to avoid lots of 'unnecessary' code but keeping
performance at a maximum.

I think I have 2 primary options.. (Pros cons as I see them..)

1. Set all coldspring beans into local variable scope on every request
in application.cfc

   !--- application.cfc ---

cfset thisService = application.beanFactory.getBean(thisService) /

  cfset thatService =
application.beanFactory.getBean(thatService) /

   ... 20+ beans

Pros: Ease of maintenance, results in shorter syntax

   Cons: Possible performance hit

2. Set only the beans needed for the request in the controller and also
make it available to the view templates

  !--- controller ---

  cfset var thisService =
application.beanFactory.getBean(thisService) /

  cfset var thatService =
application.beanFactory.getBean(thatService) /

  cfset event.setValue(myQuery,thisService.myMethod()) /

  cfset event.setValue(thatService,thatService)) /

  !--- view ---

  cfset myQuery = event.getValue(myQuery) /

  cfloop query=myQuery

#thatService.formatMe(myQuery.column)#

  /cfloop

Pros: All beans not copied to local variables scope every request

Cons: More code to do the same job as scenario 1

Any comments appreciated.

Regards,

Adam

[cfaussie] Fusebox 5.5 vs Colddbox

2008-06-01 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi All,

Just after any comments on anyone's experience with coldbox and
particularly how it compares to fusebox 5.5 (With MVC design pattern).

From what I have found, I can only find positive comments about coldbox.

A couple of things that I find work against FB5:

- Long fusebox.load times
- Having to reload an application when new fuseactions are added to a
circuit
- The occasional 'corrupt' parsed file..

I'm not sure if FB5.5 has addressed any of these issues.

this has got me beat.

I'm throwing files against a shared dev server, getting the occasional
oops and trying to correct it. These are just simple test harnesses,
hardly anything in them.

what's happening is that I'm still getting the error message even
after I fix the oops. something is still hanging on to the old code
and throwing the error BUT the error stack trace is showing the
correct (new/repaired) code.

While trusted cache is turned off, I'm having to go into the CF admin
and manually clear the template cache now just to see the changes.
It's like trusted cache is still on, even though it's turned off.

eg:

Variable QRYGETCUSALL is undefined.
The error occurred in X:\xxx_xxx\_scratch\idr\cloneforms.cfm: line 12
10 :
11 :
12 : cfdump var=#qryGetCusAllx# label=qryGetCusAll /

that error message is old because I renamed the query but forgot to
change the name in the dump the first time around. The stack trace is
from the second run of the code that should not throw an error [1].

any suggestions what might be causing this, and suggest a fix?

[cfaussie] Re: Problem with double quotes and SQLServer

2008-01-06 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Mike,

I have found in the past a value such as 42 wheels is _inserted_ into
the database without any problem. However, when the update form is
used with the same value the html is rendered as:

input type=text name=myField value=42 wheels /

Notice that the value attribute is prematurely ended.. but seems to
still render in the browser.

The solution was to use the #htmlEditFormat()# function on the value
attribute of your form field eg:

input type=text name=myField value=#htmlEditFormat(myField)# /

Hope this helps.

Well when i add a description like 42 wheels myself on the production

client's doing.

The client's not what you'd call computer savvy, and isn't cutting and
pasting from a word document so I dont think the problem is they're
using the MS Word smart quotes (66/99) and I'm not. That's why I
assumed the problem must be that they're using Vista (their computer
is brand new) and it's putting a different character in the field for
the double quote character.

But i'm open to any suggestions. It's very frustrating trying to fix
a problem when i can't reproduce it myself.

My command is as follows

cfexecute name=d:\test.bat
timeout=10
/cfexecute

This will echo the contents of the file test.bat to the screen rather
than execute the file.

Am I missing something simple

[cfaussie] regex - replacing a string outside of 'tags'

2007-12-05 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi All,

Wondering if regex wizards out there can help me with this..

I want to replace a substring within a string, but ONLY if its is not a
name/attribute of a html tag. (Between a matching pair of )

Below is some code to illustrate the problem..

cfset myString = 'I am throwing a span
style=color:red;spanner/span in the works' /
cfoutput#myString#br //cfoutput
cfset myString = replaceNoCase(myString,span,bspan/b,all) /
cfoutput#myString#br //cfoutput

This is for highlighting multiple search strings in search results.

Thanks in advance for helping the regex impaired.

Regards,
Adam

Hi Taco,

I had this happen years ago, the cause was that the two users were using
the same isp that was
heavily caching content.. the solution back then was to ensure that
every url was unique.. and/or
pass session token in the url.

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone has seen this before. One of our applications
is apparently displaying info that belongs to someone else. I.e. they
sign in, see the right info, go to another page and see the sign in
details of someone else.

Now, the only way I can see this happening is if ColdFusion is playing
up and getting the session info mixed up.

Two users say they saw information belonging to another user when moving
from one page to another. I just find it impossible when I look at the
code! There is a User CFC, it contains the screen name and user id, but
it is only populated if the user signs in. Therefore it can only be that
Coldfusion is playing up. Anyone seen this before, know issue?

Thanks in advance.

 cfquery datasource=#dsn#

which when runs, the date looks like '01/jan/2007' to the query.

 However

 cfquery datasource=#dsn#

   sb_accom_start_date cfqueryparam
cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp value=#CreateODBCDate('01/jan/2007

Seems a bit strange to me. Not what I was expecting at all.

[cfaussie] cfc - cfargument best practice

Hi Dale,

Thanks for the reply.. I think I must have been a bit vague with my
question, I already have the cfc set up using the DOA/Gateway model..

I guess I'm asking which of the 2 options for accepting a large amount
of data is prettier.. or whether there are pros and cons of either which
will make one more attractive than the other.

I think it depends on the cfc and it's purpose.

You could write one generic class, lets say called

Database.cfc

Which could have methods such as select, update, insert etc. Then they
could
take paramaters such as you described in 2. This class is then generic
and
can be smart enough to update any table.

If however you have a class called say

Product.cfc

And it deals only with products and it has an update method, then I
would
suggest option 1, as then the method constrains the required fields and
can
have intelligence.

If you are really keen you could have Product.cfc extend Database.cfc

[cfaussie] Re: cffunction access=Package

2007-05-28 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Dale,

I use it with the DAO/Gateway model..

mProduct (dir)
productManager.cfc
productDAO.cfc
productGateway.cfc

Only the productManager cfc is called by the application code.. the
manager calls the relevant
DAO/Gateway cfc depending on the function.. in this scenario all the
productManager methods
Are public and all other cfc methods are package. A DOA/Gateway should
(can) never be called
Directly, cfc calls always go thru a 'manager'.

Hope this helps.

There is a section below with the title Atheism and Evolution are
WRONG.

All those who have sinned deserve to suffer in Hell forever. Pride
is an example of a terrible sin.

1. Repent (be truly sorry for your sins; beg for God's forgiveness;
abandon sin; ask Him to help you stop sinning; and repent for His
sake).

2. Completely trust in God only; do not trust in yourself.

3. Love the Lord with all of your heart.

The Son of God (the Lord Jesus Christ) suffered and died on the cross
to pay for the sins of those who trust in Him. His blood can clean
away our sins. He was buried for three days, then lived again. There
is hope of eternal life and happiness for those who trust in God.

Your efforts and works cannot save you. Only God is truly righteous
and good. Humans are totally corrupt, but thankfully God controls all
things. Thank the Lord if He has saved you, and if His Spirit has
given you the ability to trust in Him.

-

Atheism and Evolution are wrong:

An atheist is a person who does not believe in God.

God is the Intelligent Creator of the Universe.

If you refuse to trust in God, it's not my loss.

1. Energy/matter cannot be created nor destroyed through natural
methods.

2. The Universe cannot create itself. If it created itself, then
anything can create itself; and the Universe can have a Mind of its
own.

3. Fine-tuning of the Universe.
4. Laws of physics do not order themselves. They have no goals.
5. No oscillating universe; no multiverse.
6. Universe moving towards entropy (or heat death).
7. Planets do not form through natural methods.
8. Gases scatter/dissipate quickly. Therefore, Jupiter have been
created.
9. Saturn has three rings. They have been set in place.
10. A Theory: the Earth is near the center of the Universe. This idea
supports the Bible.
11. The Earth is not millions of years old. Notes: Magnetic field
decay; Archaeology; History, other Time limiters. Note: Ancient
people were as smart as modern men. Evolutionists have no excuse.

12. Misplaced fossils; Wrong sequence of geological strata/layers;
Polystrata fossils are enemies of Uniformitarianism and Evolution.

13. Decay rates are not constant. Note: Even the speed of light is not
constant. Radiometric methods are unreliable. Example of a flaw: A
radiometric method showed that primate skull KNM-ER 1470 was 212-230
million years old. Even evolutionists rejected it.

14. NATURAL life can only come from life. Abiogenesis (or spontaneous
generation) is impossible.
15. The DNA double-helix, self-repair codes, self-checking system/
algorithms, structure, DNA language convention, irreducible cell
complexity, and chromosome count are enemies of evolution.

16. DNA of humans differ/vary by about 10-12% from each other. 50% of
human DNA is identical to the DNA of a banana. Humans and apes have no
common ancestor.

17. Common sense and science reveal the fact of Intelligent Design.
There are cells which are more complex than New York City or modern
space shuttles.

18. There is no real vestigial/useless organ. There is no junk DNA.
Note: Males' nipples arouse women.

19. Mutations are harmful, deadly, and destructive to genetic codes.
Example: Cancer.
20. Natural selection and Sexual selection do not eliminate
destructive genetic codes.
21. The fossil record and the Cambrian Explosion are enemies of
evolution. There were NO mice-bats with one wing or two wings each
having 25% bone structure. There were NO walking fishes.

22. The Lord gave humans a conscience, morals, and advanced
intelligence.
23. Strong evidence of a Global Flood in the past. This fact supports
the Bible. Geologic layers were formed quickly and catastrophically.
Note: Hydro-plate theory.

24. No historical record gives clues about evolution.
25. Scientists can use false or biased data. Examples: Piltdown man
deception, Lucy mistake, Archaeopteryx mistake.

26. Evolution is science fiction (a myth). It is similar to the story
of the Centaurs (horse-men) and Mermaids (fish-women). I don't believe
in Centaurs and Mermaids.

27. Philosophers love wisdom. But, only God is truly wise. Atheists
are not philosophers. They are not free-thinkers.

28. Science is closely related to

2007-02-25 Thread Adam Chapman
Hi Ryan,

If your model code was encapsulated in cfcs, you could name your queries
in the controller.. this is how I do it.

set name=qGetEvent
value=#application.myQueriesCfc.getEvent(myArgument='value')# /

Cheers,

Adam

Thanks Robin,

That all makes sense, but here's the bit I think I've missed... how do I
specify the variable name the controller sets up for the view.

At the moment in my model, a query looks like this:

cfquery name=qEvent ..etc

In this case the model itself is setting the name of the variable. How
do I get the controller to specify this?

Is it as simple as setting a request variable in the controller
'request.eventObjectName' and passing that down the line? That means
I'll have to evaluate() it at run time, a possible performance hit.

Or is there a FuseBox structure that can hold this object until its
needed?

thanks.

fundamental in the Fusebox docs that will explain to me how to pass that
query object down the line as a generic object, ratehr than a
specifically named variable.

Whats the trick?

Hi Ryan,

You have to have _some_ dependencies in an application to make
it work, the trick is to eliminate the most harmful ones. Dependencies
from the UI back to the business logic/data (as you have here) are fine,
as long as the variable name the controller sets up for the view stays
fixed - as long as the control stuff doesn't need to know anything else
about the view you're fine.

It's like using a post office box to send a letter to someone...

(you don't know who and don't want to know)

...you agree on the format of the letter...

(value objects, query column names and types)

...and a post office box.

(a variable name).

When you have a letter to send you drop it into the post office
box, and you don't care or know if anyone picks it up.

What you avoid doing this is having to address the letter to a
specific, concrete individual...

(this would be like rendering bits of html or calling a function
or tag specific

to the current incarnation of the UI)

...from the UI...

(a flighty crowd with high staff turnover - UI and other
interfaces

change far more often than business logic)

...if you did that, you'd have to keep changing your process to
address the letter, impacting your otherwise highly reusable letter
addressing process.

(i.e. your business logic)

If this sort of analogy appeals and you'd like to hear more,
this is pretty much an extract from my MAX Asia architecture talk that
I'm repeating at WebDU next month. It's about MVC and Flex but applies
to ColdFusion too.

Cheers,

Robin

All,

Just having a blank here - I cant work out why i cant pass a query to

have knocked up a sample test case to try and work it out:

CFM page:

cfquery name=qIPBlacklist datasource=#application.DBDSN#

Select top 10 * from ParamTest

/cfquery

cfobject component=tempQuery name=testQueryObj

cfset qReturnedResults=testQueryObj.doQoQ(thisQuery=qIPBlacklist)/

CFC:

cfcomponent output=false

cffunction name=doQoQ access=package output=false
returntype=Any

cfargument name=thisQuery type=Query
required=true /

cfset var thisResult = /

cfquery name=thisResult dbtype=query

Select * from #arguments.thisQuery#

cfreturn thisResult /

This results in a Simple objects cannot be converted, clearly if I

Hi Adam,

A very handy tool you could try is SoupUI (www.soapui.org). We use it at
work to run test suites against our Java web services. You point it at
the WSDL, it can generate a default request where you fill in the blanks
and hit send. What you get back is the actual SOAP envelope with all the
XML you will ever need :-) Well worth checking out if you are working
with web services and just a simple request/response to deal with. There
is even an Eclipse plug in for it!

When you have the SOAP response, you can decide if you need to send XML
or if the native type will be consumable from .net. It will even
validate it for you!

Hope this helps.

Shane

[cfaussie] Re: SQL Error message explanation - whats this really mean ?

Hi Mike,

It's a tedious task but I would start by removing the cfqueryparam one
field
At a time and see which one is causing the problem.. its likely going to
be around the 5th input parameter.

Once you have found the offending parameter, check the cfsqltype of the
cfqueryparam and check the datatype of the value you are trying to
insert.

I have a feeling it will be a datatype issue.

I'm getting an error message during an insert when I use
CFQUERYPARAM, that goes away if i remove all the CFQUERYPARAMs.
The exact message is:

[quote]
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Incorrect syntax near
'@P5'.
[/quote]

Since there's no '@P5' in the insert query anywhere, I'm assuming it
means something like parameter 5 is that right? so it's telling me
that the 5th field in the insert is wrong (or somewhere close to it).

If so I'm puzzled because there doesnt appear to be anything wrong
with parameter 5, or the parameters either side or the ones either
side of that.

Can anyone tell me what the @P5 is really telling me?

(this is a big insert with about 40 fields being inserted and tracking
down which field is giving the problem is proving problematic)

[cfaussie] createobject() class not found

2006-09-13 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Mark,

I have done all that.. followed the sftp.cfc readme to the letter

1. Put the cfsftp.jar file on your web server.
2. In CFADMIN select Java and JVM from the server settings and add the
full
path to the cfsftp.jar file to the ColdFusion Class Path.
e.g. c:\cfsftp\cfsftp.jar
3. Restart ColdFusion server.

Then I get the error as described when calling the init() method of the
sftp.cfc

I have a fair bit of experience calling and using java with
createObject, but only with calls to classes..

output = createObject(java,java.io.FileOutputStream).init()

but not:

jsch = createobject('java',com.jcraft.jsch.JSch)

You need to have your Java code in the ColdFusion classpath.

I would highly recommend picking up a Java book of some description
and getting to know the language a little bit more before continuing
down this road - it sounds like it might be painful :o(

[cfaussie] Re: CF webservices - output parameters

2006-08-31 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Drew,

You COULD just build the xml soap response yourself.. kinda defeats the
purpose of using cf for webservices.. but I had to do this to get around
a webservice 'complex datatype' issue..

Hey Andrew

Bummer if CF is limited in this way. Can anyone else suggest another web

service delivery platform that will run on solaris. I'll look at an
apache/tomcat/axis configuration if nobody else has any suggestions.

thanks

Hi all,
I am trying to (self) learn CF. Primerily via books, the web etc etc. I
get stuck sometimes and spend too much time trouble shooting. I have
tried via various forums on the web, but it simply doesnt seem to help.

Would someone be able to help with explanations as to what i am doing
wrong, on an hourely rate?
I live in the Gold Coast, so if it is someone in the Gold Coast that
would be super. But not all that imp as I can always call and chat...

OR if someone can just write some sample code to explain what I have
done wrong would be Ok too.

many thanks...

[cfaussie] Re: ot: db architecture question

2006-07-05 Thread Adam Chapman

HI Grant,

you can't pass in parameters to a view

Why not? (unless I'm missing something) I do this all the time...

Sql View (called topSecret)

SELECT * FROM TOP_SECRET_DB_TABLE
-- other joins/unions etc.

Cfquery

SELECT * FROM topSecret
WHERE clientId = 666
ORDER BY thisField

Let me know if im not on the same page as you?!?!

Cheers,
Adam

Subject: [cfaussie] ot: db architecture question

hi all

we've got a propriety system here that backends onto sql server. the
system maintains all time entries and billing information for the firm
- and in the firms view, this information is sacred and has about a
million levels of security.

I've been charged with making a web-visible reporting tool using the
information in this system. we are not allowed to connect directly
from CF to the sql database - there has to be a layer of abstraction
between the web-visible server and the internal database.

we've already done a version one, where we ran a seperate sql-server
with linked views to the production sql-server. this has had many
pitfalls, the main one being that you can't pass in parameters to a
view - or link stored procs. basically we've had to make seperate
views for each of the parameters that we wish to pass in (usually it's
clientid, of which we only have about five at the moment) but it's a
managability nightmare.

so here's my question: how can i access the production db, either from
the cf server or a separate db server, while still maintaining an
abstracted level of security (and be able to pass in parameters)?

There are about 3million records we're sifting through, so it's not
practical to bring it into cf memory and filter from there.

any ideas, for you advanced db guys?

thanks
grant

[cfaussie] Re: [OT] Long Lat query

2006-05-21 Thread Adam Chapman

Enjoy

SELECT suburbId, suburbName

FROM suburb

WHERE ROUND((ACOS((SIN(#suburb_latitude#/57.2958)
* SIN(suburb_latitude /57.2958)) + (COS(#suburb_latitude#/57.2958) *
COS(suburb_latitude /57.2958) * COS(suburb_longitude/57.2958 - #suburb_longitude#/57.2958
* 3963, 3) = #val(surroundingRadiusMiles)#

There are other ways.. like just passing
in a suburbId and surroundingRadiusMiles.. but I will leave that to you!! ;)

Cheers,

Adam

[cfaussie] Re: webservice woes

2006-05-15 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Grant,

Find yourself an online wsdl parser/web service tester.. this will
Generate the request xml.. you can then modify and use this as the
http request.. a bit lazy but it will save you some serious time.

Email me if you get stuck as there are a few cfhttpparam quirks with
this method.

Cheers,
Adam

[cfaussie] Re: webservice woes

2006-04-28 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Grant,

The wsdl renders fine in a browser so the problem doesn't appear to be
at the amazon end.

I pulled all my hair out when trying to consume a .net soap webservice
with 'complex' datatypes. I spent ages on it with cfinvoke and
createObject but got nowhere.

I finally got it to work by building the xml request myself and posting
it using cfhttp.. (a webservice is basically just an xml post via http
anyhow)

Then just parse the xml response with cf's xml functions and all is
good.. it has been extremely reliable.

Cheers,
Adam

hi all

i've having trouble with calling a few webservices with cfinvoke - i
keep getting the error: 'Could not generate stub objects for web
service invocation.' It then goes on to imply that the wsdl is
malformed, which it isn't...

there's heaps of info about it in google, but there aren't that many
solutions - none that work for me anyway (tried the firewall/proxy,
it's not SSL, it's not credential related).

anybody seen this and found a solution?

here's some code, to amazon, which is firing the error for me...give
it a burl...

cfscript
AWS =
createObject(Webservice,http://webservices.amazon.com/AWSECommerceSer
vice/AWSECommerceService.wsdl);
/cfscript
cfdump var=#AWS#

thanks
G

[cfaussie] Re: what's the 'proper way' to remove comma formatting from numbers

2006-04-06 Thread Adam Chapman

Hi Kay,

I like a regular expression for this sort of thing.. but it's just
personal preference as I am often turning $10,000 into 1. I will
also turn $10,000.00 into 1.00

reReplace(string,[^0-9.],,all)

This will remove anything that isn't a number or a . (leaving decimal
points in place)

I can think of all sorts of ways to actually do it, but what's the
most correct/bulletproof way to turn 10,000 into 1?
