I've heard that he is/was a TMer.

Haven't seen the movie "Laird" that the clip is from, but "Riding
Giants" which is kind of a history of surfing is fantastic. Well worth
renting if you haven't seen it.

I don't agree with every single point, but that is the most scathing political

Yes, it's not a mail program. But I live close to a Hollywood Video so
it is not inconvenient to go there. Also I tend to like to select
movies that match my mood and to have some company just send me a movie
on a list doesn't make it. And I was an early customer of Netflix
before rental shops started carrying large selections of DVDs.

As for the movie group I was just curious what happened. I am on too
many groups already, thanks. :)

[FairfieldLife] uniting all of maharishi's hearts...

2006-11-02 Thread mtncrystal
Greetings fellow family members of the Holy Tradition!

I would like to formally introduce you to Dr. Diane M. Rousseau and
The INSTITUTE OF SPIRITUAL SCIENCES

www.institutespiritualsciences.org

The principle behind The Institute of Spiritual Sciences is to bring
to the public's attention Higher Education in:

Consciousness Raising Techniques and Knowledge of SRM Meditation

Understanding of the Spiritual Sciences and Practical Living / Self
Sufficiency.

The intention of The Institute of Spiritual Sciences is to serve
humanity in preserving and bestowing the knowledge and teachings of
His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's SRM and Transcendental 'Deep'
Meditation so that all humanity may benefit from having access to it.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi teaches to first seek the kingdom within (to
know/experience god) then all things are given (spiritual/material
etc.). Thus he has given humanity:

TEACH THE PEOPLE HOW TO MEDITATE
LET THEM EXPERIENCE/KNOW GOD (LIBERATION > THIS IS PEACE WITHIN)
THEN THERE WILL BE PEACE ON EARTH.

This is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's teachings in simplicity.

Spiritual life, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is one's spirit in
which is not overshadowed by the objectivity of experience. To live
spiritually, one learns the art and practice of Transcendental 'Deep'
Meditation which purifies the intellect...it is a process in which to
experience the subtle state of the thought and arrive at the source of
thought. The source of thought is the field of infinite energy and
intelligence. In science it is called the unified field, in religious
terms this is god … love ... atman > pure being.

The Institute of Spiritual Sciences will serve as a teaching
Institute...one that will span the globe teaching perpetual
self-referral / self reliance through Vedic knowledge to all people of
all faiths and backgrounds. All will and do benefit from this wisdom
as eternal truths are eternal as they are the root of all knowledge
present in all faiths/walks of life.

Dr. Rousseau, previous head of Maharishi's Ayur-Veda Jyotish Program /
Maharishi Ayur-Veda Gems International, worked under Charlie and Helen
Lutes for almost 30 years (until his passing in 2001) and it is our
interest to unite together all of the Maharishi's hearts...all of you
who love Maharishi and his teachings.

There are many long time meditators who currently are and/or those who
have been looking for a way to serve Maharishi and promote his
teachings...we at ISS are looking to connect with all of you as there
is so much that can be accomplished together. Educators, initiators
(both re-certified and not re-certified) and those devoted due to your
pure love for the master are all invited to contact Dr. Rousseau and
the Institute so that we can unite all interested in working together
within and without the corporate structure already in place.

Please also feel free to share with ISS your experiences with
Maharishi or for many of you, your experiences in doing projects for
Maharishi that you enjoyed most (as some of you have some excellent
stories to tell spreading TM around the world!)

We look forward to meeting you all!

No idea, Curtis, I only see the Web version too.
I'm sure there are some differences--not just
between Web and email, but between email client
and email client--but I don't know what they
are specifically.

"So far in November" represents a grand total
of a day and a half.

Couple of points here.

First, this is obviously atypical; it's a function
of the fact that a hot political topic came up, and
all three of us have a particular interest in
politics.

Second, when several people who have an interest
in a topic happen to be reading and replying to
posts at the same time, you have a situation in
which the conversations on that topic are taking
place almost in real time, as in a chat room, so
there are many more posts than usual from these
participants over a relatively short span.

And finally, an unrelated point: Barry has been
reminded several times now that many if not most
of our posts are *short*. If there were a way to
count the number of words each poster contributes,
our totals would likely be a whole lot closer to
Barry's.

Actually it isn't entirely unrelated. Barry is
fixated on number of posts as a percentage of
the total, but that's a rather artificial way
of evaluating a poster's output and the quality
of their contribution to the forum.

And one more thing: If I were a newbie casing the
joint, I would be more quickly discouraged by
the lazy way many posts here are formatted;
sloppy formatting makes it very hard for a newbie
to get a good picture of what's going on. And
it's not just newbies; I suspect there's a
certain level of frustration for regular posters
as well.

Excessive quoting is a big problem. It's a pain
in the neck to have to scroll down endlessly to
find a single original line at the bottom of a post.
Long line lengths that force the last word or two
down to a new, very short line make posts very
difficult to read, especially as they get quoted.
And a couple of posters--Vaj for one--use email
programs that for some reason *double-space* what
is being quoted. A prolonged exchange becomes
almost totally unreadable when these three
problems are combined.

And then several posters' messages somehow manage
to move the right margin out beyond the message
window (this has been the case with Peter's posts
recently), making it necessary to scroll every
line horizontally, in addition to vertically.

Some of these problems may cause more trouble
on this rotten Yahoo Web interface, but if it's
newbies we're so worried about, they're likely
to be sampling the forum on the Web page before
they decide to subscribe.

In any case, they're all pretty easily fixed.
Snip your quotes; use short lines, even if it
means you can't use word wrap; set your email
program to single-space; and adjust your right
margin.

I made some points about Barry's "newbie" sally
(which, interestingly enough, he's not mentioned
previously in all his ranting) in my previous post.
Here I'll just note that any newbie who expected
most of the posts in this forum to relate to his or
her personal interests obviously didn't read the
home page, where it says explicitly "Pretty much
any topic is fair game" (as we have to keep pointing
out to nablus).

Note that "lack of self control and tendency to
dominate the forum," "compulsive posting," "not
sane enough," and other such expressions are
weasel phrases, thought-stoppers, which Barry
uses to load his argument because he can't
make a good rational case for it.

 by regularly

Like Barry, for example:

"Give the bitch a 'time out' of several months
and then let her come back and at that point
see if she's learned anything and proceed
accordingly."

> Still others have stopped reading them entirely.

Which it's been suggested that Barry do if he
finds the number of our posts so distressing.

But (speaking of self-control) he seems to be
unable to manage it.

A few of the other members, that is.

No, I haven't "cut down." The number of posts I
make is a function of how much time I have available
and whether I have something to contribute to the
topics being discussed.

> whenever the subject comes up she reacts by claim-

"Give the bitch a 'time out' of several months

Gee, however could I have thought Barry was
trying to silence or censor me?

Perhaps because we don't see it as unacceptable
behavior.

And perhaps because it's all too transparently
obvious that what upsets the complainers is not
the *number* our posts so much as their *content*.

If anybody thinks Barry would be so insistently--
and *nastily*--complaining about the top posters
here if they were critical of TM and supportive of
Barry, rather than supportive of TM and critical
of Barry, I have a nice bridge you might want to
have a look at.

For $15 a month if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for the "latest
and greatest" you can take home 3 DVDs at a time from Hollywood Video
and keep them for up to 5 days. The thing I like about HV over
Blockbuster is that they stock unrated movies, not porn but films that
were made the way the director wanted instead of dumbed down for the
public. Technically you get 90 movies a month to watch if you watched 3
each day and then took them back the next. But then you really would be
a candidate for some psych help. :)

[FairfieldLife] Blockbuster Special

2006-11-02 Thread suziezuzie
If your interested in online DVD subscription, Blockbuster has the best
deal. For only $10 a month, they will mail you an unlimited number of
DVD, shipping both ways free. You are allowed to have only one DVD in
posession at any one time BUT when you're done with a DVD, instead of
mailing it back, they allow you to return it to a Blockbuster store for
a FREE trade. They will mail back your returned DVD. This works out to
about 9 DVD's a month! I signed up and think it's great. Mark

[FairfieldLife] Re: Daily poop output by Elephant: 540 lbs.

Miami Zoo Hosts Poop ExhibitOct 30 7:03 PM US/EasternBy JESSICA GRESKOAssociated Press WriterMIAMIMeadow muffins. Guano. Feces. Solid waste. Caca. The words for poop are endless, but the Miami Metrozoo has another term to add to the list: educational. Now on display is a 5,000-square- foot exhibit on excrement titled "The Scoop on Poop," which invites visitors to explore the science of scat. The exhibit is filled with photos of animals in some of their most indelicate moments. Stool sample models abound: haylike football-sized balls (elephant), kidney-bean- looking pellets (porcupine) and coallike lumps coated with fur (black bear). Beyond the "ick" factor, however, zoo officials and the exhibit's creators say there is a lot of information being imparted. Visitors can
smell the stench of flowers that mimic dung to attract flies for pollination. Videos include one of a hippo spreading its droppings around to mark its territory. Simple games include "Who Dung It?" "We didn't want this to be a gross exhibit for shock value," said Chad Peeling, who helped create the display. "Our goal with the exhibit was to make people think, kids especially, about the science in all aspects in life and this thing that adults don't like to talk about." Miami is the exhibit's second stop after opening at a Virginia museum in May. Created by Clyde Peeling's Reptiland _ whose namesake is Chad Peeling's father _ in Allenwood, Pa., it is based on a 2001 book of the same name. After the exhibit closes at the Metrozoo in January, it will make stops in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Redding, Calif. The exhibit is not the first to feature feces, however. An exhibit called "All the Poop" toured Japan in 2001
and another in England showcased scat samples. On a recent afternoon one woman cheered "go, go, go" as two children raced model dung beetles at a station in the Miami exhibit. Students on a class trip posed in a cutout of a person sitting in an outhouse. Others examined slides of parasites found in dung using a microscope, while classmates weighed themselves on a scale designed to tell them how long it takes an elephant to poop their weight. "I don't think it's that disgusting," said Bruno Cazarini, 13, of the exhibit's topic. "I think plenty of people get the wrong impression." Cazarini, who was visiting the zoo with a school group, said he knew about dung beetles, some of which burrow inside dung to eat and rest. But he did not know about its uses as a type of waterproof plaster for the homes of Masai people in East Africa, which he learned from information at the exhibit. Adults have had fun
with material, too. Some volunteers and zoo employees have started wearing plastic poop pins that look like the real thing. Zoo personnel have also brought out a bowl of chocolate- covered candy, inviting visitors to take one if they dare. Elephant keepers, meanwhile, were charged with weighing the amount of elephant poop one of the zoo's Asian male elephants, Dahlip, produces in a 24-hour period. The total: 540 pounds. Meanwhile, a commercial for the exhibit, which will begin running shortly, has already shown up on YouTube. One couple, who are zoo donors, even called to offer to loan the zoo a scat sample of their own. The pair has a lump of excrement from 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat enclosed in a glass globe, which the zoo plans to put on exhibit within a few weeks.

Barry's in full-blown grasping-at-straws mode.

The notion that regular contributors to a forum
should change their posting habits for the sole
purpose of attracting some imaginary newbie--
especially when that forum already has oogobs of
members--makes no sense at all.

Plus which, a newbie who decides on the basis
of a single visit to a forum like this one that
it contains no interesting material would have
to be a newbie to electronic forums in general.

If I were a newbie casing this forum (or any
other), I'd make several visits over the course
of a couple of weeks before making up my mind,
because I know that with this kind of group,
the topics and posters vary widely from day to
day.

It's about time. You'd have made a better impression
if you had just presented your arguments once or twice,
cogently, and then kicked back and allowed others to
do the same.

This is your *fantasy* about me, Barry.

And I don't post for the purpose of making a good
impression, I post for the purpose of expressing
myself and engaging in discussion.

If gaining respect were what we're here for, that is.

As I mentioned awhile back in response to another one
of Barry's "overposting" rants, this is the *only*
electronic forum I've ever been on in over 20 years of
participation where contributors came in for criticism
for making "too many" posts.

PT, Barry: You never *had* to say stuff like this,
not even once, let alone repeat it over and over
relentlessly.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Renowned Scientist Defects From Belief in Global Warming

2006-11-02 Thread Jason Spock

Sorry for the late response.  We had a thunderstorm, Lightning struck and burnt my Modem.         Actually, 20,000 years ago in the thick of the last ice age, Sea levels were hundreds of feet lower than today.  Tremendous amount of water was locked in ice covering the whole of Europe, Russia etc.  From the Tip of South-Africa to Australia was one unbroken coastline.!!  From Australia to Tip of South-America was also one unbroken coastline.!!         Coming and going of ice-age has something to do with the precession of the earth axis.  When the axis tilts to 24
degree the world cools and ice sheets begin to advance. When the axis starts moves towards 23 degrees ice sheets melt and warming phase starts.  Right now the Earth's axis is 23.5 degrees.         Fossil records for the past 50 million years show periodic extinction of mammals coresponding with the precession of the axis and also the advancing and receding of the periodic ice ages.         Computer simulation in Super-computers show that a rise in the Average Global temperature by a few degrees would wipe out the Rain-forests in the Tropics.         Tropical Rain-forests are extremely sensitive to temperature flucations.  A rise in Average Global temperature will see the Rain-forests replaced by Savanna grasslands.  The loss of bio-diversity will be massive.ShempMcGurk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 19:05:49 -Subject: [FairfieldLife] Re: Renowned Scientist Defects From Belief in Global Warming     Good! It's not as if the war crimes were a big secret
until the Winter Soldier meeting; the guys who
were over there knew what was going on.

>From the Dick Cavett Show (Shemp posted this
and the next quote earlier):

MR. KERRY: "Well, I have often talked about this subject. I
personally didn't see personal atrocities in the sense that I saw
somebody cut a head off or something like that. However, I did take
part in free fire zones and I did take part in harassment
interdiction fire. I did take part in search-and-destroy missions in
which the houses of noncombatants were burned to the ground. And all
of these, I find out later on, these acts are contrary to the Hague
and Geneva Conventions and to the laws of warfare. So in that sense,
anybody who took part in those, if you carry out the applications of
the Nuremberg principles, is in fact guilty."

And from Meet the Press:

MR. KERRY (Vietnam Veterans Against the War): "There are all kinds
of atrocities and I would have to say that, yes, yes, I committed
the same kind of atrocities as thousands of other soldiers have
committed in that I took part in shootings in free-fire zones. I
conducted harassment and interdiction fire. I used 50-caliber
machine guns which we were granted and ordered to use, which were
our only weapon against people. I took part in search-and-destroy
missions, in the burning of villages. All of this is contrary to the
laws of warfare. All of this is contrary to the Geneva Conventions
and all of this ordered as a matter of written established policy by
the government of the United States from the top down. And I believe
that the men who designed these, the men who designed the free-fire
zone, the men who ordered us, the men who signed off the air raid
strike areas, I think these men, by the letter of the law, the same
letter of the law that tried Lieutenant Calley, are war criminals."

Okay for the progressives and the press but too polysyllabic for the

I was a nut case and got the sidhis the second time I applied. It was good
because I started the advanced techniques instead. Liked them better

To add to the fray I heard this morning that Snow says the written
apology isn't good enough and they want it on video. I think Kerry
should pull a Cheney to that by standing up for once and telling them to

Think I saw that years ago. For my late night Halloween viewing as a
follow-up to seeing the excellent film "The Departed" in a theater I
watched "Silent Hill" which is a horror film based on a video game and I
would highly recommend. It is an excellent production.

And given that I read via email it is easy to skip over posts in
Thunderbird plus arrange them in all kinds of order to facilitate
things. I found the web site a pain with its limited display
options. I have dropped the retention policy for my FFL folder from 7
days to 5 to make the folder easier to navigate.

Generally I just drop in here between project segments or while
something is rendering or building to see if there is anything of interest.

I have no problem with that. But you've been here
a while. In my long post I was presenting the case
for what such (IMO) compulsive overposting does to
the potential *newbie*, to someone who has not yet
had a chance to see whether this forum contains
interesting material, and who may never get to see
that if they are turned off in their first visit.

> I have seen successful attempts at changing the discourse on this
> forum numerous times, and I observe that it results from coming up
> with something engaging and stimulating, vs. attempting to censor
> anyone.

I agree. But failing that :-), I was just trying one
more time to appeal to the human being inside the
compulsive poster. I'll do it one last time and then
let the subject drop.

Shemp, I love you, man. You're *funny* in a way that
many others here are not. And you've got some good
things to say. It's just that the posts in which you
seem to have no other intent in mind but to provoke
someone and push their buttons are not included in
my list of your "good things to say" posts.

Sparaig, you've got some great things to say, too.
I just wish that you'd do it in fewer actual posts,
and that you'd lay off trotting out the old, tired
arguments that people like us (that is, TM teachers)
*taught* you, as if hearing them again will somehow
entice us to come back to the fold.

And Judy, you're more intelligent than to really
believe that you actually win when you think that
you "win." You'd make a better impression if you just
presented your arguments once or twice, cogently, and
then kicked back and allowed others to do the same.
Your tendency to treat each opinion that is contrary
to yours as an opportunity (and, truly, a *need*) to
"win" some imagined battle undercuts the real and
valuable things you have to say.

To all of you, if you tried to limit yourselves to
ten posts a day, you would *still* be posting more
than anyone else here. But I think that at that point
the subject of your "overposting" would never again
come up, and you'd have gained some respect from
your peers in the process. To continue to ignore the
feedback you have been getting for *months* now can
only be interpreted as a lack of respect for those
who have given it to you. *Trying* to cut down a
little would be IMO a good way to establish that you
do have some respect for the others here. Even if
you fail at the attempt it would demonstrate some
respect. No trying, no respect.

There. I've tried to treat them like adults. Let's
see if there is actually an adult home to hear it.

> PS I do find your posted % of posters thing interesting.

I think it's fascinating, too. When new.morning first
posted the statistics on the most prolific posters,
I was shocked and embarrassed to find myself near the
top. I have endeavored to lower my standing ever since.
Having to keep saying stuff like this, to adults who
should have been able to hear it long ago, does not
help in that endeavor. :-)

Sorry to be obtuse! Yes the site operationterra was using the example
of school violence as an indication of the tone of the times.

Yes he might have changed his view but I stay with the earlier one. If
they couldn't accept me with a moustache I can believe in anything
they won't accept, including Master Moy!
By the way I am grateful for the shove out by Neil Patterson, it was
the final push onto new things but that doesn't mean I like him for
it. In fact most people around Maharishi are suspect for the very
reason they are still around him. No minds of their own or else
self-serving interests.
Love,
David

I'm sorry but I don't see what they are doing as a problem. I find
enough worthwhile content here to be interested, and if I wasn't I'd
go elsewhere. The vibe of this place is such that anything is

I have seen successful attempts at changing the discourse on this

Good, I was afraid had caught something from Shemp.

[FairfieldLife] Re: I love Maharishi. Why?

2006-11-02 Thread curtisdeltablues
David,

A discussion about how someone comes to believe something that I do
not, a meta discussion about beliefs themselves, is one to the best
thing about participating here. I am as stuck in my own perspective
as anyone, and I am not really looking for new content, just more
understanding about the process of our beliefs. When I first dropped
my spiritual perspective, I focused on the content of beliefs more,
and predictably felt I had little in common with people on a spiritual
forum. Over time I began to notice that in fact everyone had a mix of
what they selected out of all possible beliefs, no one believes
everything. I have heard it said that an atheist just believes in one
less god than a theist since most people don't believe in Zeus or
other gods from man's long past. The theist has good reasons for not
believing in all the possible versions of god and choosing their own
preference. Both theist and atheist share more disbelief so they have
all that in common.

To have a respectful discussion with someone with a different set of
belief choices is a privilege that I appreciate.

BTW I think the information on the site about the violence in schools
was overly pessimistic. Although we have had some horrible high
profile cases lately, violence in schools is down from a decade ago.
I am constantly trying to swim upstream against the non intuitive
nature of statistical reality verses the skewed impression created by
the media. I think we can make a good case about the world being
better off or worse off depending on what we pay attention to from the
overwhelming details in the world. We may all may just be seeing our
own perceptual filter choices, but it is fun to try to break out of
them. Thanks for the assistance!

PS

Tai Chi rocks, you will outlive us all!

No one is suggesting that these three don't post.
However, quite a few people here have commented
on the effect that their *lack of self control*
in posting has had on the newsgroup.

Imagine being a newbie, drawn to FFL by the blurb
on the home page, and trying to read through it
yesterday and today. What you would find is a
group that *appears* to be dominated by three
rather vociferous and harsh people. Their posts
constitute almost half of everything you could
read on the forum. They seem to do nothing but
argue (or, to be kind, they seem to do nothing
but argue in 80% of their posts). And they argue,
for the most part, about subjects that have little
or nothing to do with the subjects that attracted
you as a newbie to the group in the first place.

Would you be moved to give such a group a second try?

To me, the issue is a social one. Quite a few people
here have tried, in one way or another to *get through*
to these three and tell them that their lack of self
control and tendency to dominate the forum by regularly
posting twice to six times as much as the other regular
posters is not appreciated. People have asked them
politely to cut down. Others have suggested giving
them an enforced "time out." Still others have stopped
reading them entirely.

BUT (and this is the important thing IMO), *at no
point* in all of this has any of the three ever given
the impression that they *hear* what the other members
of their community are saying to them. Shemp actually
treats it as a joke, and continues to make posts that
seem to have *no other function* but to provoke the
other two, and cause them to post even more. Sparaig
reacts to posts like mine that point out his habits
by *posting even more*. And although Judy *has* cut
down a little from her highs of a few months ago,
whenever the subject comes up she reacts by claim-
ing that people (me, in particular) are trying to
silence or censor her.

I think I speak for many people here in saying that
all we're asking is for these three to CATCH A
FUCKIN' CLUE and realize that what they are doing
is socially unacceptable.

A CHILD would have heard the feedback they'd received
from their peers by this time and made some attempt
to change their unaccpetable behavior. Why haven't
these three?

Excellent. Many good points. (Not *quite* enough
emphasis on the shameless behavior of the Republicans,
though, for my taste.)

The money quote:

"The Swift Boat attacks reshaped John Kerry's view of politics,"
Lockhart said. "I think he thought that politics was a cerebral
business, where if you made an honest, just case, people would believe
you, and he found out that politics is an emotion-based business where
facts and fiction often get mixed up and good fiction often trumps good
facts."

We're talking about TV interviews here, not his

Here is the application form for the course. It looks pretty
innocuous. There are no questions about previous practices or
statements of specific loyalty to the TMO:

http://tinyurl.com/u6ptm

Whatever can be said about the TMO is that it is always changing.
Many here assume that it has continued to change for the worse. I
always enjoyed Samuel Jackson's statement, "...making an assumption
makes an ass out of you and umption." (from The Long Kiss Goodnight,
one of my top ten favorite flicks).

[FairfieldLife] Donovan on TM

2006-11-02 Thread sparaig
http://artvoice.com/issues/v5n44/sunshine_supremacy
[...]

Donovan: [...] I don't get into too much on stage these days but I do talk
about meditation,
which in retrospect is the true flower of the 1960s. Reintroducing the western
world to
meditation was what was the trip to India, with myself, the four Beatles and
one Beach Boy,
was all about. It's important to tell that story.

AV: So you are still a big believer and practitioner of transcendental
meditation?

Donovan: Yes. And that part of it is not a tale of the past at all. It's very
much a tale of the
present and future. [Film director] David Lynch and I are working very hard to
continue TM
into schools, so I'm very involved. Through TM, there's a creative field that
everyone can
contact, not just me, the Beatles or the Stones. We can all access it for own
lives and it's not
just to make music.

More to the point, Kerry was repeating what specific individuals had said about
THEMSELVES. That isn't an acknowledgement in the generic sense, but
fact-reporting:

"these people said that they had done this."

Is that really the common practice that the TMO asks of everyone
requesting a current dome badge?

My understanding, from afar, is that the application procedure for
most is quite streamlined -- with no strings. For example Rory does a
lot of stuff, reads a lot of stuff, and I am pretty sure he would not
renounce doing so to go to the domes-- which he has done (gone to domes).

I was under the impression that the more detailed, onerous and
string-filled application procedure was reserved for people that have
some problematic history with the TMO or who seem off-kilter.

Is my impression way off base?

Nor did Kerry intend to belittle them.

When evaluating the idiotic react-to-button-pushed-
push-new-button exchange of the last day and a half,
I think it is considerably safer to consider these
three robots (and thus objects) than it is to assume
that they are human beings. :-)

Well, of course it isn't; the two words are most
definitely not synonymous.

As I keep pointing out, the people Kerry was
*accusing* were the civilian and military
leadership, not the troops. He believed the
troops were the victims of terrible leadership
that encouraged or actually *ordered* them to
commit war crimes as defined by the Geneva
Conventions.

You can't win an argument with me by being
intellectually dishonest, no indeed.

And this is simply factually false.

What Barry insisted was "censorship" with regard
to the 9/11 film on ABC was the appeals to ABC to
choose to do something about the situation on its
own.

In no case did I or anyone else suggest that if ABC
refused to take appropriate measures, it should be
*forced* to withdraw the film or reschedule it or
even give opposing viewpoints a chance to be heard.

Well, as Tony Snow said, the Bush administration just wanted to give him a
chance to set
the record straight by demanding an apology. They were "doing him a favor."

The entire press corps laughed at that one, right along WITH Tony Snow, who
couldn't
quite keep astraight face while saying it.

Or, just read/watch the entire thing. Since there were 2 or 3 jokes at Bush's
expense
immediately before that comment, it would be the most obvious thing to assume
that he
meant Bush in that one also.

Of course, making Jokes at Bush's expense can backfire on you if you say it
poorly...

I think that was meant to poke fun at himself. Now, by poking fun at himself
over such a
serius issue, he was belittling the troops' efforts and sacrifice, but that was
NOT the intent.

[FairfieldLife] She's insane: splitting hairs between "accused" and "acknowledged"

2006-11-02 Thread shempmcgurk
I've tried my hardest to stay out of these 100s of postings between
Judy, Spare Egg, and MDixon on Kerry.

The last paragraph below by Judy is why I try and stay out: Judy is
quite possibly insane. You see, according to Judy,
Kerry "acknowledged" that he and others he fought beside committed
war crimes but his saying that on national TV -- twice! -- isn't the
same as "accusing" those he fought beside.

This is why you can never win an argument with her.

Same with the most recent controversy. Kerry has apologised. He
used the words "I apologise". But to Judy, this is not an apology.

I give up.

Media Matters, a liberal watchdog group doesn't assert that the text was
released
befoerhand, so I assume that it wasn't. They have an analysis (liberal spin)
of the issue on
their website.

I've heard otherwise, but it isn't relevant to this discussion. Kerry believed
they were at the
time, obviously, or he wouldn't have made those statements before Congress.

Even if itwere a legal proceding it might not be considered hearsay.
