[Audyssey] games we'd like to play: 3d interference

2009-12-07 Thread Nicol Oosthuizen
IN this game, you have to find your way to your office.
You, the player, is working for the south African revenue services.
Its an easy task to get from reception to the door that leads into the
contact centre and vice versa, but the difficult part is to find your
office once you are in the contact centre.
There is 2 entrances to your office.
The one you have to go through the pause area or relaxation area.
Go through the backdoor of the pause area and go down a passage and you
will get your office.
Once you are on a ramp, you know that you are into the pause room.
That is the easy way.
Or you have to find 2 steps going down right at the other side of the
contact centre, then you will be in the same passage.
You will have to deal with fellow employees shouting directions at you.
straight! Straight!
no! no! this way, this way!
no, the other way. The other way.
you're wrong, you're wrong!
oh please help the guy, he is going to bump into a cupboard!
You lose the game when your boss ron, comes to you and ask you in his
icy snapelike voice:
hey, where are you off too?
Avoid bumping into cupboards.
Walk between the desks of busy agents.
If you are near the machinery room, you know you are wrong.
Use the left and right arrows to turn 6 degrees, the up and down arrows
to walk forward and backwards, and numpad 0 to snap 180 degrees.
Check the manual for other keystrokes.
You are armed with a water host.
You have to splat water on people yelling directions at you from their
desks .But beware, if you wet their pcs, telephones and papers instead,
you will face suspension and the game is over.
This game idea is based on a real life situation that your fellow gamer
faces each ruddy day when arriving to and departing from work.

Re: [Audyssey] My Game Development Schedule

2009-12-07 Thread Trouble
Well put and thought out. With the holidays upon us time gets shorter
by the day.
Take the time you need to do it right and don't hurry. If they want
quality games they can wait.
And no! You can't be blamed for North's actions. i warned everyone on
this list about that and was told I didn't know a thing, and that he
was the nicest guy on earth. Well the hardship he left you with
wasn't needed, and proved me right!
So enjoy the holidays, spend time with your son, because they grow up
before you know it.

Hi everyone,
As this issue comes up off list quite often I thought I'd share this
with the list, and perhaps I can save myself some trouble repeating
myself time after time regarding Mysteries of the Ancients and
Raceway. Please, no flame wars etc over this, but I do think my
repplyto the original person's e-mail needs to be seen and read by
all concerned parties. Perhaps this may get the point across that
I'm not a Borg drone or a slave working for the masses here.

Hi,
Keep in mind when I took over those titles from Alchemy I thought it
would merely be a matter of completing the work that James North had
started, and I wouldn't have to start over from scratch with either
game. As it happened both games were heavily written in Visual Basic
6 which was already beginning to be phased out of mainstream use,
and the fact the Raceway track editor and Montezuma's Revenge level
editors were not accessible at all. So I decided to start over from
scratch with a newer programming language and newer development
tools. As a result a project i thought would take only a few months
at most has in fact become years. Definitely far more time than I
was willing to commit to this project in the first place.
Second, when I agreed to take over these titles I made no promises
when they would get done or released, or how much time per day I
would devote to working on them. Fact of the matter is I have a life
too, have a son to raise, a wife and family, and things like that
that have nothing to do with these games at all. If I take a little
time out of each day to read and respond to my e-mail that is my
right to do so. If I spend Saturday morning with my son watching
Saturday morning cartoons again that is my right to do so. If I want
to take a couple days off of game programming to do something else I
should have the right to do so without your or anyone else's input
in the matter.
Thing is I write these games purely for my own entertainment value.
USA Games is more or less a hobby and not a business where I get
paid a weekly, monthly, or yearly pay check for writing these games.
Therefore I'm not compelled to work 8, 10, 12, or 16 hours a day
just to sell a game for a couple thousand for all of my time and
hard work. I'm not getting paid enough by you or anyone else to
treat it as a full time job, and you have to understand that.
Third, you mentioned the fact that people have paid good money for
Raceway. I'll remind you of the fact you paid James North for
Raceway, and he kept all of the money for those orders, including my
own, when I took over the project. I have not received one cent for
Raceway, and therefore trying to hold me accountable for that money
is just plane wrong. I didn't hold a gun to your head to order the
game, i didn't take your money for Raceway, and all I agreed to do
was complete the game as soon as i could. I didn't agree to work
around the clock 24/7 on that or any other game just to keep a few
people happy.
However, I do take your point that by responding heavily on list I
appear to be lazy, neglecting the games I'm suppose to be working
on, whatever. It is certainly true time spent reading and writing
e-mail could be used for game programming, but you appear to be over
looking the time, money, and energy I've spent on working on these
games already. So if you want some facts here are some facts to consider.
First, I generally try my best to spend at least four hours each day
working on the games I create. Some times it is more and sometimes
it is less. Some days I don't have any time at all to spend on games
like going to church with my family on Sunday, playing with my son
on Saturday, or I just take a day or two off to play games, watch
TV, play my guitar, read a book, or something else I personally
would like to do better. Everyone needs some time away from the
computer, and just to give it a break.
Second, I spent considerable time between March 2006 and December
2007 creating one of the games you mentioned, Montezuma's Revenge,
and in mid January, just before final release, I got sacked with an
order to cease development of the game or face a copyright
infringement suit. I felt i had no choice to comply with that order,
and to make it right I started over with a new game, Mysteries of
the Ancients, which would be given to those on preorder status
instead of Montezuma's Revenge. That entire

Hi Hayden.
The anti virus software programs don't have a single process. It has
many, usually and has backups as some viruses terminate the process.
Some don't even allow termination.

You should exit it from the application itself by using the exit option
in the menu. Or disable autostart until you've installed it.

The problem is Avg, avast, and some other virus programs tag the nop setup
file as a virus, and either do not allow it to be downloaded, or do not
allow it to run or be installed.

The game quite obviously is not a virus, this is just antivirus
programs being annoyingly paranoid, but as it happens with several
common antiviruses (though plainly not with nod 32), it'd be good if there
was a solution.

Hello.

I've finally got around to giving nop a try, but Avg doesn't seem to like

the file at all, sinse the web shield thinks it's a trogeon.

I've been busy with my parents staying for the last few days, and
with matters on the entombed list, so haven't bee keeping up with things
here as much as I should.

I did see several E-mails from Sean mentioning a fixed installer, if

that solves the problem that'd be great!

Could you please repost the link. Also, if perminant hosting is possible
I'll add it to the audiogames.net index page for Nop.

2009-12-07 Thread Trouble
The other side of that is software the companies use. Not all of it
is useable by a screen reader. There are not enough knowledgeable
assessable programmers out there to make it useable. Some of those
coders just squeak by and hope you don't get fired over it. Just
because its for accessibility. The programmers charge from $75 and up
a hour even if the code is still not useable.
Where I work my co workers enjoy having us blind there. They see that
we do the same job they do and meet the same requirements.
Another one from this list is one of my co workers. The job is tire

out of my home as a tech web administrator, or wherever my skills
could prove useful. It doesn't bring in the kind of money my skills
should under normal working circumstances, and because I work in the
private sector, for myself, I don't have an actual employer to give
me references to other companies. So about three years ago I put in
an application at AOL in Columbus who were seeking a developer who
has experience working with Linux, who knows Java, etc and it looked
like something I could do. unfortunately, although I could give them
credentials on my Java education I couldn't hand them a slip saying
I know Linux even though by then I used it every fricking day on my
personal computers, nor could I give them a specific employer since
I was in a sense employing myself for the previous few years. They
said to me you don't have the experience we are looking for, and out
the door I went.

The bottom line was I knew I had the skills for that job. how ever,
they didn't know that because I hadn't been able to generate the
kind of paper work, references, etc that the people I knew in
college were getting. I always did well on the phone interviews for
a job,but when i showed up in person for the face to face
interview things changed rather rapidly for the worse. So I don't
have much respect for the so-called high and mighty work ethecs the

back to school, get a better computer science degree, but would it
really and truely help?

[Audyssey] Figured It Out was Re: MOTA and Chasms

Hi,
I figured out what I was doing wrong. Apparently, there were two chasms.
I was jumping over the first one, but didn't realize I had to walk a few
steps to the next one. Once I jumped over it, I was able to get the door
open and continue on my way. Unfortunately, I got killed by an amazon later
on, even though I was sure I was hitting her with my weapons, but at least
I'm getting somewhere now.

  Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA and Chasms

2009-12-07 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Kelly,
Actually, there are two chasms in that room. Just so you know. here is a
step by step walkthrough of that room that might help.
After I open the statue I walk right until I reach the crumbling ledge.
I holster my gun witht the w key. Then, I hold down control first, and
then press the right arrow key until Angela safely crosses the first
chasm. I continue walking right until she reaches the second ledge, and
repete the process witht the control+right arrow kkeys. Once I'm over
the second chasm I can enter room 6 and am on my way.
As far as the manual describing how to get passed certain traps I
personally think that would be too easy. Aftr all as you play the game,
get to highr and higher game levels, the traps get a bit harder and I
introduce new traps, new boss creatures, etc. I hope to let the player
discover some of this out on his/her own. Especially, if I begin adding
any kind of puzzles that the person has to solve.

Kelly Sapergia wrote:

there's also a chasm that I guess I have to jump over. I've walked to
the right until I hear a sound like rocks falling, so I assume that's
where the chasm starts. After making sure my weapons are holstered or
whatever, I jump to my right, and fall to my death. Am I doing
something wrong? I wish the manual would explain how to get through
situations like this.

Now that I've got past the chasms, I'm trying to figure out a couple

is it not necessary? I'm just curious because, even though there aren't any

To jump over the fire, check your location by using the c key.
The fire is between locations 83 and 87, and 103 and 107. so when the
location says 108, of course making sure no weapons are drawn, jump to the
left. Then follow the same steps as before, when you reach location 88,
jump.
The key you are looking for is in the room immediately to the left of the
fire.

Regards,
Damien.

Now that I've got past the chasms, I'm trying to figure out a couple
things.

1. When I jump into the water, there's a door to my left that, when
opened, reveals a room of fire. Is there any way of going through or
around it, or is it not necessary? I'm just curious because, even though
there aren't any visible objects, I'm wondering if there are some once you
get past the fire.

2. I found a room with Cerberus, but no matter what weapon I use, I can't
kill it, so I just keep jumping over it. Furthermore, there is a locked
door, but I can't find a key to open it, and I'm pretty sure I've been all
over the place.

Can anyone help me with these questions?
  Thanks.

[Audyssey] Mysteries of the Ancients Beta 10 Released

2009-12-07 Thread Thomas Ward

Hello USA Games fans,
We would like to announce the immediate release of Tomb Hunter Mysteries
of the Ancients beta 10. This all new release includes several bug fixes
and upgrades since the previous release.

What's New in Beta 10

Additional Levels --- As of beta 10 the game demo now includes both
levels 1 and 2 for your pleasure.
Added Enemies --- This all new demo includes enemy wolves as well as a
minotaur found at the end of level 2.
Flying Harpies --- Once again the flying harpies are back in the game
and replaces the amazons found in beta 9.
Sounds and Music There are several new sounds in the game, and once
again all sound effects are 44100 KHZ cd quality. In addition, all of
the game's music has been updated and gives the game a completely new
and hopefully more cinematic feel to the game.
Game Voice --- As of beta 10 Scansoft Karen replaces Acapela Heather as
the voice of the game.
Switches and levers --- As of beta 10 all of the keys have been replaced
with a series of hidden pressure switches and mechanical levers that
unlock statues, unlock doors, lower draw bridges, and various other tasks.
Bug fixes --- A few miner bugs have been fixed such as being able to see
statues when the v key is pressed etc.
Updated Weapons --- A few weapons such as the sword and dagger have been
slightly updated. They use less strength to use and do more attack
damage to enemy creatures.

Downloading the Game

As always you may grab the latest demo from our web site
http://www.usagamesinteractive.com
and remember to please uninstall beta 9 before updating to this release.

Sincerely,
Thomas Ward

Hi,

I was jumping over the first one, but didn't realize I had to walk a few
steps to the next one. Once I jumped over it, I was able to get the door

on, even though I was sure I was hitting her with my weapons, but at least
I'm getting somewhere now.

Hi Thomas,

Before I start I'll say this-if you ever want us to leave our computers,
then you better stop making such great games! grin I definitely perefer
this one; at first the fact that a centaur took twice as many shots was a
major annoyance, but then they don't show up as often. I definitely like the
fact that the sword and dagger or more powerful; I am easily able to take
out Cerberos with somewhere between 5 and 7 strokes from the sword. You
might want to make some sound for the pressure switch; I almost missed it
and I would have, had I not checked my eMail earlier.

Keep up the excellent work,

[Audyssey] monsters in mota

2009-12-07 Thread Nicol Oosthuizen
HI Tom
A little suggestion for you.
Have you been thinking to add a key to mota which will announce the name
of the current monster as in sod?

[Audyssey] games we'd like to play: town madness

2009-12-07 Thread Nicol Oosthuizen
IN this 3d adventure game, you are blind and you have to do your
errands on your own.
You have to, of course, use a cain to advance through the town.
The town is situated in the beautiful state of Connecticut.
You have been disapproved for a dog because you battle with directions.
IN this game, you can press shift+up arrow to walk ahead continuously,
which is definitely recommended.
You can press up and down arrows to take one step forward or backwards,
but its not recommended.
While your character is walking, hold the spacebar down and swing your
caine with the left and right arrows.
The trick is not to swing your cain to far as to hit bypassers else you
will land in court on manslaughter or woman abuse charge, and the game
is over.
You may either want to hold down the left and right arrows while you are
holding spacebar, or you may only want to press the left and right
arrows and release it, you have to master the trick of swinging your
caine to the left and right just the right distances.
You will hear the sound of your cane as your character taps it on the
ground. When you are facing a corner or turn off, simply stop swinging
your cane and use the arrows to change direction as in sod.
Once inside a shop of your choice, hit the v key to bring up a view mode
containing all items you can buy in your vicinity.
Use up and down arrows, and enter to add it to your shopping basket.
Once you get to the counter, your character will automatically pay for
the groceries .And of course, the tricky part everyone's has been
waiting for. You obviously need to cross streets as you want to visit
more than one shop and also coffee shops situated in different streets.
So the trick is to listen for the robot making a loud whissel in some
streets. If it makes a soft whissel, it means that cars on another
street that the one you are waiting on, have to stop.
And of course, not all the streets in this game has robot whissels, so
in that case you have to listen when its quiet and the trick is to run
if there is no cars.
You are armed with a holstered flame thrower, so if a drunk or reckless
driver knocks you off your feet, blow his car to dust with your flame
thrower. You might sometimes be lucky to find a friendly driver who
will take you to the next shop you want to be.
IF that happens, you get some bonus points and of course, you don't have
to worry about crossing the next street!
This game, if it really existed, will help you understand mobility
issues, or as the Americans call it, travel issues.
The game, if only it existed, will teach you when to pass a busy road
when no cars Is coming. It will also teach you to swing your cane just
the right distance.
Thanks mister nobody, the game rocks!
Lol!
