[Audyssey] PacMan Talks voice

2014-05-22 Thread Sky Mundell
Hi Phil, this is Sky here. I have a question about pacman talks, in particular
one of the ghost, blinky. In going through the phrases of blinky, I noticing a
fraze where he says out, of, in a burp voice. How did you make the voice belch
the words, out of? Or whatever it sounds like? The burping affect? and what
voice of the att natural voice did you use for blinky?

Re: [Audyssey] Question About Window-Eyes and Audio Games

2014-05-17 Thread Sky Mundell
Hi Kelly, To create a set file in Window-Eyes, do the following
1. press control backslash to enter the Window-Eyes control panel
2. press a to select the association option in the treview
3. press right arrow to open the association treview
4. you will now have two options. You will have current association, and if
you press down arrow again, you will have program information. Current
association allows you to main set files, and program information allows you
to view information about associated set files for a specific program.
Anyway, once you are in the assoaciation option and hit right arrow, press
down arrow to go to current association
5. press tab until you here set file Edit box. From there, you can type in
the name of the set file. Lets say you wanted to type in jim kitchens game
so that the speech will go to sleep. You could type in something like
life.set. Note: .set is the extention that Window-Eyes 7.5 or later uses.
Previous versions of Window-Eyes had an extention of .000. After typing in
the name of the set file, then, you want to tab again. You will now be in a
comdo box of a few items. These items let you assoaciate the set files to by
title, which means a title of an application. class, which means a classname
of an application, for example, shell32. and none, which means don't
assoaciate anything. You want to select the by title of an application, as
that's where your changes will be when you make changes to that applications
set file. After selecting one of the two options, then tab again. This time,
you will have an extra button besides the two buttons that are already on
the screen. The new button is called save and assoaciate. What this does is
it will save your set file, but also save your window-eyes settings if you
happen to make any changes. I hope this helps, Sky.
Ps. In the general option, under core function, the voice on and off, is not
a toggle for application and global, but just a radio button that you can
turn on and off but it does accomplishes the same thing as long as you have
a set file assoaciated for an application.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Question About Window-Eyes and Audio Games

Hi,

Thanks for all the responses about my Window-Eyes query. I know it's been a
couple weeks since I sent the message, but I'm just getting around to trying
the suggestions now.

Sky had said to go to the General item in the Window-Eyes Control Panel,
then once it's opened to move down to Voice. I have the Advanced options
checked, and so far don't see anything about a Voice option, except under
Devices. There was an option to turn off the voice in the General/Core
Functions area, but nothing to make it program-specific. Also, I don't know
anything about how set files are created. When I opened Jim Kitchen's menu
program and went into the Control panel, I saw something like Window-Eyes
Active: default.set, Association none. How do I create a new set file or
association for the menu program?

Thanks.

Hi Bryan,

Another idea that would be cool is if there was a river in the mountain
level perhaps having to jump from log to log like in Frogger.
That was challenging enough when I could see and I imagine that would add an
especially cool element of challenge to Q9 as you would have to estimate how
long to jump from log to log rather than falling in the water and getting
munched by a crocodile. If the logs turned in the water that would make it
even harder because a gamer couldn't stand there fore too long or the log
would turn over sending poor little Q9 into the river to become lunch for a
croc.

Cheers!

Hi Kelly, yes there is a way to put window-eyes in sleep mode. What you have
to do is press control backslash, then press g for general, then down arrow
to voice, then tab until you hear voice toggle scope program or global. You
want to set the scope to program. Then, shift tab, then go to voice, then
use the arrow keys to go to off, and you should be good to go. Also don't
forget to save the settings for the games by pressing control s. I hope this

Ps. If your interested in the window-eyes tutorials, go to

For awhile now, I've been learning how to use the Window-Eyes screen reader,
as I'm planning on installing the free version for Office users when I get
my new computer in addition to JAWS and NVDA. (I like having alternatives

possible to do this with Window-Eyes, or do you have to completely shut it

Hi Bryan, I just managed to get your monkey business walkthrough. In it you
menshened the wild west level was missing. Its in the game, but there is a
bug which prevents it from loading. To fix this, if on Windows 7, go to your
c drive, then users, then your username then appdata then roning, then
Monkey business, then copy the oldwest.map file into your monkey business
folder in the program files folder. If your not on windows 7, you would need
to go to documents and settings, then your user name, then follow the steps
from there. I hope this helps. Sky

Hi Dark,

Yeah, I personally don't get what is wrong with Sapi either. It is a quick
and easy API, works fairly well for what it does, and there are plenty of
voices available for it. However, as a guess I suppose the voices are
precisely the issue people have with it.

A lot of Jaws users, for example, are use to Eloquence. Since Eloquence is
not a Sapi voice they can't just use that with a game without the developer
going through the Jaws API to use the screen reader directly rather than
accessing Eloquence via Sapi. For that reason I guess some people want Jaws
support so they could use Eloquence and the various Vocalizer voices which
aren't available via Sapi.

Of course, there is probably a cost issue here as well. Anyone who has a
fairly up to date version of Jaws has a number of TTS engines and voices
from Eloquence and several Vocalizer voices. They probably don't want to
turn around and buy more voices from Cereproc, Cepstral, Nextup, etc given
the fact that Jaws already offers them a lot of free voices.

In short, as a guess I think the reason many users want screen reader
support is because of the voices etc their screen reader provides aren't
available for Sapi or are available at extra cost. Some of us who don't use
Jaws, such as myself, aren't missing anything by using Sapi because we do
not have various free TTS voices to miss. I use NVDA and own a handful of
Sapi voices so using Sapi rather than my screen reader makes sense in my own
case.

Cheers!

The exception of course is making textual games such as interactive

accessible, as happened with the choice of cave game I mentioned,
however these days all the screen readers have working virtual cursers
so just writing the text to the screen without clutter is fine.

 Beware the grue!

from Eloquence and several Vocalizer voices.

I use NVDA and own a handful of
Sapi voices so using Sapi rather than my screen reader makes sense in my own
case.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,

Just a correction here. Windows 7 was released in 2010 not 2007.
Windows Vista came out in January 2007. I wanted to point that out as you
seem to be confusing the two here.

However, I do take your point. The reason XP is still widely supported by
websites, some third-party programs, and so forth is that it still holds a
significant portion of the Windows PC market. Windows, Vista, Windows 7,
Windows 8,and Windows 8.1 has not been as successful as Microsoft had
planned, and as a result many software developers know cutting XP off at
this point is equivalent to cutting their own throats. I'll give you a
simple example of that in practice.

One of the things I have been looking at is ways I can improve my game
engine so that Raceway and MOTA will run better on new Windows machines.
The problem is there are a lot of blind users that feel as you do that XP is
the best there ever was, the best there is, and the best that will ever be
and will not upgrade for any reason. So despite any advantages I could add
to my games by targeting a newer version of Windows I would not be able to
make as large a profit off my games if I exclude half my customer base. As a
developer I have to support whatever a large portion of my potential
customers are using.

Of course, mainstream companies are less handstrung because they are not
selling to a minority market. At some point the number of mainstream users
running Windows 7, Windows 8, or 8.1 will out number XP and it won't hurt
them to drop XP support. Probably they will begin this migration sometime
next year after Microsoft drops support for XP the way they did when
Microsoft dropped support for 98 and Millennium.
Of course, one problem facing mainstream and accessible technology markets
is there are far more users using XP now, than there were 98 users in 2006
when Microsoft dropped Windows 9x support. So third-party support may linger
a couple more years until the mainstream market catches up to current
Windows technology.

The only way I can see personally to deal with the situation is attempt to
support both for as long as necessary. What I mean by that with games like
MOTA and Raceway they are already XP compatible because they were designed
that way from the beginning, and there is no need to cut XP support off at
the knees just because something newer came along. I can however release an
updated version of both that uses some newer APIs like XAudio2 or have
64-bit builds for newer 64-bit machines. That helps target people running
new machines while not removing support for XP in the process. that's the
only way I can see being fair to both groups of users at this point. In a
couple of years I can consider dropping support for XP in newer games and
hopefully people will have made the switch by then.

Cheers!

Hi Shaun,

About the early growth of the industry it is true that the industry sprang
up really fast once it really got going. At first it was just three or four
developers like PCs Games, Kitchens Inc, GMA, and a couple of others writing
games for Dos. Then around 1999 or 2000 the audio games industry really took
off with the introduction of VB 6 and DirectX 8. I'd say in the space of
about five years between 99 and
2004 the audio games industry was truly born. Jim Kitchen began porting all
of his games to Windows. GMA also ported their games like Trek and Lone Wolf
to Windows as well as came out with Shades of Doom and Tank Commander.BSC
Games got started and put out a good solid half a dozen releases like
Troopanum, Hunter, Pipe, Deekout, Bobby's
Revenge, and so on. ESP, then owned by James North, came out with an
impressive catalog of games including Dynaman, Alien Outback, Monkey
Business, ESP Pinball Classic, ESP Whoopass, etc. Liam started L-Works and
came out with Egg Hunt, Lockpick, Super Liam, and the Great Toy Robbery.
Robert Betz, AKA Games for the Blind, was putting out a handful of card and
board games. When you look at it objectively just in that period of time
between 1999 and 2004 almost all of the major audio game releases were
developed and released, and after that the industry has rapidly slowed and
stopped since then. There are, of course, some good reasons for that slow
down in development.

First of all, many of the original founders like ESP, BSC Games, Robert
Betz, Bavisoft, etc are no longer around. With ESP we are fortunate that
James North turned his games over to Josh for development, but in the case
of BSC, Robert Betz, and a few other developers we aren't that lucky. Even
if they had turned the source code for their games over to someone else it
would have to be rewritten which brings me to the second reason game
development has slowed.

Back in the late 90's and early 2000's a developer's options were simple.
They could go the advanced route and develop their games in
C++ the hard way using DirectX etc or they could use Visual Basic with
DirectX which was a much easier choice. Jim Kitchen, GMA Games, ESP, BSC
Games, Robert Betz, and so forth all took the VB 6 option which was
completely reasonable for the time. However, in 2008 Microsoft officially
scrapped VB 6, and unfortunately the majority of those developers had not
switched to .NET or some other modern alternative so that their older games
will have technical problems with newer versions of Windows. Fixing said
issues requires a complete rewrite in VB .NET or something else compatible
with Windows 7 and Windows 8 which will take considerable time and effort to
do.

On top of the language issue we are now faced with the fact Windows is not
the only operating system we need to concern ourselves with. A number of
blind users have gone Mac, and that is a new market that hasn't been fully
supported yet. There are iOS devices like iPhones and iPads which have
exploded onto the market with hundreds of blind customers asking for more
games. There is a minority market that includes myself running Linux which
is reasonably accessible and is one more market ripe with potential
customers. The bottom line I have spent more time on trying to figure out
how to develop games for these new platforms than I have in writing games.
Josh also has also put considerable time and effort into developing
cross-platform tools for Mac, Windows, and iOS that took something like two
or three years to get to a state where he could put out Silver Dollar and
Change Reaction. The bottom line cross-platform development is hard, is a
lot of work, and wasn't even an issue 10 to 15 years ago when the audio
games market was made up exclusively of blind Windows users.

In short, between the loss of developers and the change in technologies this
loll in game development should not come as any big surprise. Its more
complicated than it use to be, and we don't have as many people working on
it as we use to. I'm hoping that BGT and other technologies like it will
help with the problem, but the tool is only as good as the developer using
it which is one more problem we have against us.

For example, take the discussion a few days ago with John about math and
such. If a new developer doesn't have the mathematical skills etc to
competently develop a certain type of audio game BGT is not going to help
with that. It will be up to us more skilled developers to train and teach
the next generation of game developers so they know what they are

Hi Charles,

No it is not. I've run a few test here and it seems to make a difference if
I use the old C printf function and the newer C++ cout function. Its
possible NVDA doesn't like text if it is streemed rather than printed to the
screen, but no other screen reader I've tried has this problem.

Re: [Audyssey] News from Blastbay Studios, and a call for opinions

2013-04-30 Thread Sky Mundell

Hello Philip. Here are my ansers to your questions
1. I would personally love to see a cd of the game after ordering it as well
as download it. This could come in handy if your internet brakes down and it
takes a few days to get it fixed. 2. The size of the download doesn't matter
to me. 3. I would love to see a longer version of the manual in text format,
but then I would like to see an audio tutorial that would explain the
levels. This would be helpful if you were stuck, and needed some help on
getting through the level. 4. I would personally only use cheats when
absolutely nessisary. What I mean is that say if you were in a level and
you were getting stuck in a level and you couldn't get through the game as
fast, then you should have the option to buy the cheats if you needed to get
through the impossible level.

Subject: [Audyssey] News from Blastbay Studios, and a call for opinions

Hi all,

I am slowly but surely nearing the finish line for my current game project,
and before I release it I would like to ask the community at large some
questions. Your input will greatly help me when deciding what to spend time
on before release. Below are four questions that I would very much
appreciate your answers to:

1. Would you like the ability to order the game on CD? This would cost
something like 10 dollars extra including worldwide shipping.

2. How much does the size of the game matter when it comes to the
downloadable version? Is something like 300 MB too large?

3. In what format would you prefer to have the manual? Narrated inside the
game, available in text format, or both?

4. If the game contained cheat codes and you had to beat it in order to
unlock them, would you want the ability to buy them for something like 5
dollars without having to earn them? This applies to other unlockable
content, as well.

I do not have a set release date for the game yet, but it will be available
in the not too distant future. The game that I am refering to is not
Perilous Hearts, but is actually something even larger and, in my opinion,
far superior. The state of Perilous Hearts is currently not 100% certain,
but I am confident that you'll enjoy this game just as much and hopefully a
whole lot more. I cannot give any definite information about the game at
present, except that it is a mix between arcade and adventure with a
boatload of action thrown on top.

Thanks in advance for reading, and taking the time to respond to my
questions!

Kind regards,

Philip Bennefall

Well the more corrupt you are with the US government. The more you
get. Even though our forefathers did it the honest way. A corrupt
government sees that as not needing help for anything. I see more
people filling jobs the blind can do with ease. While the blind get
told the job is not accessible for them to do. I had one real good
job working in the tech field. They tried to make the software I used
not accessible just so they could remove me and it worked. When jaws
scripts won't work and more graphics come into play you lose every
time. See they put those graphics there so people not knowing
anything about computer systems can just click on the picture of the
problem and get solution. That system cuts down on training. So most
of those techs you call for help only know the pictures in front of
them and not anything about computers or the system your having problems
with.

Tom,
I agree with 95% of your post below. Developing games isn't a walk in the
park, financial or otherwise. But there is one comment you made that I
want

to underscore.
Developing high quality games costs lots of money. Far more money than
the

average blind American collects from SSI checks each month.
Absolutely true, which is a great incentive for blind people to get jobs.

There are actually several different tracks that play on the overhead

who is one of our voice-actors and sound designers.

We've actually been considering offering these on iTunes and Amazon MP3,

Subject: [Audyssey] An Announcement Regarding BSC Games

Hello everyone,

I just finished speaking to Justin, and I thought I owe it to you to
tell you were we stand regarding the BSC games.

First, there is the issue of licensing. I asked him if he would allow
Audyssey.org to purchase the key generator for $75 and issue new keys
to people as needed. Unfortunately, he will not allow us to issue new
keys, and he has said in effect that if people want new keys for
Troopanum, Hunter, Pipe, whatever that they should purchase the key
generator he is selling right now for $75. No exceptions are being
made for the licensing of his games.

Second, there is the issue of licensing the sounds and music for the
games. Justin will not sell those to a third-party developer, nor
allow anyone access to the *.bsc pack files containing the sounds. So
recreating the games with the original sounds and music is pretty much
not possible.

Finally, Justin wants to retain his intellectual copyrights for
Troopanum, Hunter, Pipe, Deekout, Crazy Darts, etc so redistributing
his games or rewriting them is not legal under copyright law. I just
thought you should know where we all stand in terms of these games.

In summary while I know some of you may feel angry, upset, and perhaps
disappointed at this news do remember we still have many other great
developers like Draconis, GMA, Jim Kitchen, Blind Adrenaline, to name
a few. Hopefully they will continue to write great games, and if we
want more games remember there are a number of tools like the BGT
toolkit and the Dragon Flame Engine out there to help create new and
interesting games. We could even create games as good as if not better
than those we are losing with these tools. So try and be positive
rather than look at this as a negative experience.
Cheers!

Hi Folks
Shalva put a link to my 2005 beta of Sarah in the Audio Games forum.
So I am also including it here:
It is on my web site at,
http://www.pcsgames.net/Sarah10Beta.exe

Sarah10Beta.exe 81,393 MB

Be aware that it installs in the same folder as the current Sarah game so
during installation, you must change the game location.
It uses the same desktop quick link so you need to change that also.
I would suggest going to your desktop and re-naming the current desktop
quick link to something else, such as just Sarah or Sarah11.
This was dated 2005 and uses the Crystal voice from A T and T which was
replaced with Sarah Alawami's voice in the current version. I tried it
yesterday to make sure it still workes, but didn't explore it too much, so
I'm not sure what bugs are in it.
I am still working on the update Sarah 1.2, and just got a new recording
from Sarah Alawami that I am adding to the game that will make the Hogwarts
grounds level sound like the rest of the game.
In developing the new level, I used the crystal voice to say all the new
objects and locations, but wanted Sarah to record them.
I am adding a wand shop and the three broomsticks pub to the Hogsmeade town
next to the sweet shop, which now has a door so you can exit to the rest of
the town. Of course down the road is a haunted shack and the gate to the
castle.

This beta uses the GMA engine and was written in VB6 so needs the same
libraries as the other PCS and GMA games on new computers.
Phil

Hi Michael,
To a small extent Diagon Alley, is already in the game as you can get there
by using the floo powder.
However I think you are asking can you explore the shops and buy things. No,
unless someone twists my arm, as it would take a whole level in itself.
The Hogwarts Express is in the update but again you can't explore it, and
the Forbidden forest is already in the game. On the Quidditch pitch, you can
land and walk into the forest.
In the update however, you will also be able to walk around Hogwarts grounds
and even go back into the castle.

Hi Dark,

You know, that is one of the reasons I'm reluctant to squeeze the $75
out of my bank account to get this pack of games and software. I would
be paying that money, money I don't really have to spend right now, on
games that will never be upgraded and supported after I pay for them.
That really wouldn't be a wise investment in the long term because
there is no way to insure that when Microsoft moves to their yearly
updates, which could begin as soon as next year, that these games will
remain compatible with Windows versions newer than Windows 8. Its
really a short term solution for a long term problem.

It would be better if Justin would license the source to a third-party
developer who could maintain the existing games, upgrade them if
necessary, and even have the ability to port them to other platforms
like Mac OS and iOS which are beginning to be new markets for audio
game developers. It just seems to me that Justin is going about this
all wrong, and sooner or later weather or not I pay the money I'm
going to end up with something I can't use over the long term.

Cheers!

codes in the future if blind software is closing down, since it'd be dire
if

future people coming to audiogmaes.net couldnt' play the games at all even
with installing vb6 libraries etc.

Beware the Grue!

dark.

Howdy partner, and welcome to the Silver Dollar Saloon!

Draconis Entertainment revisits the popular saloon of the old west featured
in many of its audio games for the blind and visually impaired with a new
mini title for Mac OS X! (Coming later to Windows PC's.)

Primarily intended for the blind and visually impaired, SilverDollar offers
three mini games that serve as both a great introduction to audio games for
new players, and addictive fun for experienced ones.

SilverDollar has no visual elements. Use your fingers, ears, and wits to
engage in some western fun.

So put on your 10 gallon hat, partner, and get into a little trouble at the
old west's premier watering hole for outlaws and gunslingers alike.

• Start a brawl with the Silver Dollar's resident tough guy.
• Prove yourself a gunslinger by testing your shooting skills, blasting
flying crockery out of the air.

• Spend a little time at the one-armed bandit.
• Features many favorite characters from previous Draconis titles, including
Old Man Stanley.

• Audio hints to help newcomers navigate the game menus with their ears.
• In app instructions for all the mini games.

Other mini games are planned for future updates. Have something you'd like
to see? Let us know.

SilverDollar is available in the Mac App Store for $1.99 USD at the
following link:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/silverdollar/id591523274?mt=12

We are open to questions on this title, or Draconis in general. As always,
we don't comment on unannounced titles, but we will do our best to answer
questions.

Subject: [Audyssey] Announcement from Draconis Entertainment

The following is an expanded version of the announcement we have posted to
our website with additional details. We will try to answer questions posted
here to the best of our ability, but please keep in mind that we will not be
going into great depth about unannounced future titles, as has always been
our policy.

It has been a long time coming, but the dragon has awakened at last. Pull up
a chair, and we'll fill you in on what we've been doing.

Draconis Entertainment has spent the last few years working on a
next-generation game engine for audio gaming. We had several key goals in
mind as we began working on this project.

* We wanted to future-proof our games. A game engine that could easily be
maintained and kept current in-line with modern operating systems,
eliminating the problems of incompatible or out-of-date dependencies was
essential.
* We wanted cross-platform compatibility. We are Mac users ourselves, and
only supporting Windows was no longer satisfactory. Our new game engine will
work on Mac OS X, Windows, and iOS devices.
* We wanted a game engine so flexible that it would support any kind of
game-style we chose to throw at it, and to build all future releases on top
of the same core.
* We wanted to bring our prices down. If the game engine really was as
capable as we designed it to be, this would mean more rapid development once
the core of the engine was complete.

The enormity of this undertaking cannot be understated. The game engine will
be continually enhanced and expanded as we release more and more titles. You
will see our games grow in size and complexity with each release as we push
the limits of what the engine is capable of.

To put this into perspective, the game engine itself, not counting any game
specific code, currently spans over 130,000 lines of code.

The game engine has been under active testing by an incredible group of beta
testers for the last two years, to whom we are enormously grateful. We could
not have done this without them. Thank you all!

Looking ahead..

Our plan going forward is to begin releasing both new titles as well as
expanded versions of old ones that have been rewritten from the ground up
for the next-generation Draconis game engine.. As our focus has been on
perfecting the engine, the first couple of titles will be new versions of
some of our classic games with tons of new features, new audio, new modes of
play, and so on. All-new titles will be coming very soon thereafter, with
more classic titles staggered between new releases.

In general, we expect desktop titles to be released first for Mac OS X,
followed soon after by Windows versions. Mobile games for iOS are also in
development, as well as special mobile versions of games that have been
traditionally meant for desktops.

Our desktop game development has been broken into two distinct fazes.
Initial game design and development is now being done on Mac OS X with the
primary coders and a team of beta testers, while a separate coder and set of
Windows testers will work on the Windows release as the game's initial
design and development wraps up.

It is with great excitement, that we are pleased to announce the immediate
availability of our first Mac OS X title, which is expected to be available
for Windows in the first quarter of 2013 as well.

ChangeReaction, Draconis Entertainment's classic audio puzzle game for the
blind and visually impaired comes to OS X with new audio, three entirely
different modes of game play, a host of new features, and a cheaper price
tag!

Primarily intended for blind and visually impaired gamers, ChangeReaction is
played via the keyboard and your ears. Navigate the game board with the
arrow keys, dropping coins on the stacks to create chains of explosions and
rack up higher and higher scores! Match three coins of the same denomination
vertically or horizontally to trigger a chain reaction that blows up all
adjacent coins of the same value! This game has no visual element. Use your
fingers, ears, and wits to rack up the highest scores possible!

* Choose from three distinctly different variations of game play.
* All modes support three difficulty levels.
* In ChangeReaction Classic, clear the board of all coins before time runs
out!
* In LooseChange, clearing the board just got a whole lot more difficult!
Bombs explode on coin stacks and scatter their contents across the board for
added challenge!
* In PayDay, try to keep the board from being cleared against all odds, and
rack up overtime by clearing positions on the board which represent the
hours of

Hello, I was just asking if the guys at draconess were going to be
developing a wild west game simular to the Grizzly Gulch game. yes, that's
true that the silver dollar salloon is in the pinball and monkey business
games. the problem with these old west in the games unlike grizzly gulch is
that they're limmitted in what you can do. in grizlly gulch, you could enter
the bank, General Store, Marshals office, saloon, etc. You could also catch
robbers and go on bounty missions. in the ESP pinball tables and in the
monkey wildWest. You can only enter the saloon, blacksnith shop, horse
stable. no bank, no opertunities to to go on bounty missions. as far as I am
concerned, their has not been an update to grizzly gulch in a long long

Hi.

The only silver dollar I've heard of is the Silver Dollar Saloon featured in
the pinball classic, party pack and Monkey Business games. Its the saloon
featured in the western scenarios, oh and of course the intro seen for Alien
Outback and the sound scheme in the Ultimate Soundoku LOLOL.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Hello,

We have new products coming down the pipeline. We are working our way
through some red tape at present, but hope to start releasing new titles
in late summer, although it may be sooner if possible. One of the new
titles has already wrapped up development.

In the very near future, we'll be releasing some information about our
current plans, including an in depth look at what we've been working on
for so long. Our product line is going to see a major shift that will be
huge for our customers.

It's been a long time coming, and we're excited to finally take the wraps
off our projects.

Feel free to share this information with anyone else who may be
interested.

Hi Charles,

That's pretty much my feelings in a nutshell as well. It would be
different if they sent out a news letter saying what was happening
with their future titles, or if they gave us a message that they can
not continue for reason x. However, remaining silent, not answering
their e-mails, not providing answers to support questions, and so on
doesn't leave us to think much about their customer service.

On 1/20/12, Charles Rivard wee1s...@fidnet.com wrote:

This is strictly a personal opinion. Given the number of games that
Bavisoft has produced over the years, and taking into consideration how
well

informed we have been kept concerning their current production, I think we
should show them the same consideration and support that they have shown
us.

Forget them until they have something to show.

[Audyssey] Bavisoft

2012-01-19 Thread Sky Mundell
that's it for wild west games f from Bavisoft. of course there is the Monkey
business one, but that is limited in what you can do, and there's the ones
from esp pinball. what we need is a new wild west audio game, that is either
cheap, or free.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Multiple playable characters

Hi,

To me the ability to play or select different playable characters is
dependent on the story more than anything else.

For example, if we had a Star Trek FPS game you might want to play
that game from the perspective of different characters. Each would
have extra features or abilities that would be unique. In a TNG game
Data might be faster and be able to exist in hazardous environments
that would normally kill a human being without requiring a hazard
suit. La Forge has his visor that allows him to see things that can't
be seen with the human eye that could be handy in certain situations.
Warf would have superior strength, stamina, and hand to hand combat
skills that would make him a great fighter in combat situations.
Playing a game from those different perspectives could be interesting.

With Tomb Hunter the game is about a single character. No one else can
fill her roll. In order to add more playable characters I'd have to
invent them for that purpose, and then the plot has to be rewritten to
tie them into the game. I'd personally not want to do that.

I don't personally agree with the concept, but it could work, and it
would add that replay value.

HI Dark,

Yes, i know. That was really my point. Winboard may be a very good
Chess program, but if its only using Jaws then it is, sorry to say,
not very accessible in comparison to alternative Chess programs. Jaws
may still be the leading screen reader today, but Window-Eyes, state
side, has caught up over the last few years and Jaws market share is
constantly shrinking. Part of that is do to the fact Window-Eyes now
has scripting support since 7.0, and of course NVDA has grabbed up a
huge number of VI computer users who can't afford to pay out ragious
prices for Jaws or Window-Eyes.I know I am personally looking at
switching to NVDA for that exact reason myself. I simply can't afford
to pay out for SMA plans right now.

The thing is the screen reader market is changing. Developers who
arent' staying on top of that are bound to get requests like support
NVDA, support Window-Eyes, support Hal, whatever because Jaws is
losing the market shar they once held. Its time that devs start
realizing that and beginning to support alternative screen reader
solutions as I don't see Jaws ever gaining back the market shares they
once had. Especially, since their business practices, sue happy
attitude, has turned a lot of people against them.

Cheers!

At that point he did talk about adding sapi support possibly support for
other screen readers as well, though whether this is going to happen I
don't
 know.

What bothers me, is that the two other major accessible chess programs do
 not have this limitation.

both Kchess programs work with window eyes and Hal (and probably would
with
nvda sinse the screen is fairly symple, pluss they have lots of voicing as
well), and Ian humphries bg chess works with sapi.

 Beware the grue!

 Hi Mylos,
Here's a description of the game from audiogames.net.
Battlezone is one of the first and most major projects undertaken by
one of our own forum members using the newly released
 Blastbay game toolkit

One day while piecefully out shopping You are suddenly kidnapped by
some mad individual and an endless hoard of very violent employees.
 Luckily, you have
a gun, sword, some exploding booby traps and even an automatic machine
gun stashed in your shopping bag (you can't be too careful), so you
 set about breaking
out of the kidnapper's clutches, doing as much damage as possible.
Thus begins a fast action, high speed side scrollin adventure taking
 you from the enemy's
lab, past hoards of very angry minians, bottomless pits, stabbing
blades, rolling boulders, fireballs, on rushing cars and of course
 some of this mysterious
 kidnappers maniacal henchmen as bosses.

it's not all bad though, you'll be able to spend your points to
replenish supplies, and if your quick enough be able to grab some of
 the falling items to
help you through this parade of nastiness.

The game uses ms Sapi to be self voicing and contains a variety of
music and sound effects (including many taunts), different ambience
 for the various levels
and non stop action, this is deffinately worth a try,
particularly sinse developement is ongoing and new nasties and extra
 levels are being added
continuously (at the current 13 stages, it's already a pretty
monstrous game, especially considdering that it's completely
 free). Just remember that
because battlezone was created with the free version of bgt, you'll
need that installed on your machine in order to run the game.
 Hope that helps.

Hi all,
I posted this yesterday but I am going to try it again and see if
someone replies.
Hi all!
Okay, version 7.0 is now available for download! It is occationally 44.7 mb
(sorry Sean).
To download it, do as follows:
1. Go to the url:
http://www.pb-games.com/tj_login.htm

2. Login with the following password: Tj rocks!
Note that it is case sencitive.
Do never! give out this password to anyone.
When you log in, please enter your real name, so i know who has the file or
not.
Changes from last beta (v6.2):
* The stereo image in the game is no longer made by pre recorded, panned
audio
files, it is made from within the game itself.
* Level 4 is included.
* The status feature has been modified to work better.
* Several other bug fixes.
* The bonus objects and the animals in level 1 are now randomly placed.
* The slingshot is included.
The slingshot:
You get it when you take a bonus object in level 1. When you get it, it
comes
with 5 amo, but you can get more amo along the way, by catching more bonus
objects. To toggle between your different weapons, press w. And to use a
weapon, press the spacebar as before. To check how much amo you have in your
slingshot, press a when it is active (when you have chosen it from the
weapon
list).
The slingshot works as follows in the different levels:

Level 1: i don't recommend you to use this weapon in level 1 when you can
use
your spear, but if you are playing on hard and have much amo, just use it on
an
animal, and it is dead after one shot.

Level 2: the slingshot is inactive in this level, because you do not need
it.

Level 3: here, the slingshot is very useful. While hanging in a vine, and
there
comes a monkey, just use the slingshot (it doesn't matter where you are
swinging) and the monkey is history. However, if you use your spear, you now
need to hit a monkey 3 times to kill it, mouhahahaha!

Level 4:
Here the slingshot is also very useful. In level 4 you are killing bees (see
below). If you use a slingshot in this level, all bees that are currently on
the screen will be killed.

Here is a description of level 4:
Level 4 is called honey hunt, and you are killing bees to get honey. If you
finish the level you will eat the honey, and your strength will be
increased.
The bees are flying left and right, left and right. How many bees there are
at
once depends on the difficulty. When a bee is in front of you, press
spacebar
to kill it. If a bee passes center and you do not manage to kill it, it'll
sting you and you will lose 1 strength. It is not as easy as it sounds,
trust
me!

As i said above, the status feature has been changed to work better. You now
press:
1 to hear your score.
2 to hear your strength.
And 3 to hear how many lives you have left.
Also, in level 4, you can press 0 to hear how much honey you have.

Okay, i know that many people are waiting for this email, so if i don't want
them to send mister Alpha after me, it is best that i send it now.
I just have one thing remainning to say:
ENJOY!!!

Regards
Philip Bennefall
Thomas, in your version of tarzan junior that you uploaded last
weekend, do you have to press 1 to hear your score, 2 to hear your
strength and 3 to hear how many lives you have left?
Also, you said before that you would host egg hunt and pigeon panic on
your sight sometime at the end of March. But I still don't see them on
the sight. I know your busy with uploading Philip's games, some of
spoonbill's games and working on MOTA but maybe you should upload them
because I actually had a crash in early April and it took like the
whole night for system restore to fix my computer. And, I saw that egg
hunt, pigeon panic, super shot, tdl maze game, space colony cleaner
and science invaision were completely gone from the system, and all I
saw was the sounds and sometimes the internet shortcut but the .exe
file that starts the game was gone. So I had to ask some people to
upload all of those. Now it would have been easier if they were on a
websight like usagamesinteractive.com.
And Shane is right, neither of us see tarzan junior, all I see is dark
destroyer, duck blaster and snowball woar. I don't even see science
invasion. Did Kelly ask that not to be hosted?
Thanks.
best regards,
jack

outback game in 2002 on CD so it is version 1.7, but there is a new

 ESP

Hi Dark,
I am planning to have one city map that you drive around on but each level
of the game will include several building interiors.
When you get out of your car and go into a building, the game will teleport
you into that room or building.
For example
You start the game in the police station. You get a report that a bank is
robbed. You climb in your police car and zoom over to the bank. If you get
there fast enough you might catch the robber still in the bank.
If you take longer he might be running down the street or getting into a
car, and you have to chase him.
Once you stop the robber, you need to subdue him, either by shooting him,
using a taser gun, pepper spray, night stick or punching him. Then putting
on handcuffs and stripping him nude.
Then hog tying him and throwing him into the back of the car.
Then grabbing the bags of money and putting them into your trunk.
Followed by driving back to the police station, and throwing him in jail.
Then driving to the doughnut shop and using the banks money for buying them
for all your fellow cops.
Unfortunately, each doughnut you eat will lower your health so you will
need to drink many cups of coffee to bring it back to normal.
Then you will have to find a place to go as your bladder will be filled.
You visit a local bowling alley, and before going to the bathroom, you stop
to bowl a few frames.
Finally it is off to the men's room. As you start to go, a
gelatinous blob will grab...

 Hi Phil.

Indeed, that does sound different, I'll be interested to see how things
work sinse rebound plays quite a bit more like Jim's pong in terms of
hereing the bouncing ball, with sounds of power ups and monster coming
down at you but the blocks themselves not making noise unless they're hit.

I did wonder about the boxing game sinse we could probably do with
something different here, but if it is similar to savage gambit fair
 enough.

The cops game from your description sounds awsome, I especially like the
idea of getting in and out of your police car as well as exploring
 buildings to catch crooks.

Is the game planned to have different audio maps? how about different
missions eg, different crooks to catch?

Of course if you'd prefer to keep information low until you have time to
release fair enough, I'm just curious.

 Beware the grue!

It's ashane that Bavisoft doesn't appear to be developing anymore games. I
just read the email recently and it appears that someone has indeed taken
over the company. There is the wild west level in Monkey business but that
is limited in what you can do you're there to catch run away monkeys. In
that level the sheriff will at least give you an award and you can shoot
down the towns bad boy. Two years ago dracomess was developing a new game

Hello everyone
Recently on the audiogames forum there was a message from an audiogamer who
recently sent a message to bavisoft and he actually got a reply. But judging
from the many gramatical errors in the email message, i'm begining to think
this may not be bavisoft that actually replyed. I'm begining to also wonder
if someone has taken over there company.
ANyway, the email is below for those of you who want to read it. Feel free
to leave your thoughts in this topic. But if this is indeed bavisoft, well,
we at least know they are alive. Note again, this email was not directed to
me, but to someone else.

hi sid.
we have read your email and would not like to say anything much.
bavisoft was a fair enterprise, commited towards the development of high
quality computer games for the blind.
we received a rather favulous feedbacks regarding the both games we have
created
certainly, we had plans for the future.

so initially, we started as a rather fine business, managing to get enough
proffits to meet the costs involved in the process of development.

in addition, we had also drawn certain plans for the future about
development of new games and continution of old or existing games .

with the progressing years, our potential kept falling down, plus we had to
face a lot of extreme financial, residential, and social crisis.

for sure, that was a period of uncertainty, for all of us in fact, but we
couldn't do anything when we find ourselves burried in a really outragious
heap
of troubles, through wich, it was almost impossible to get out of it.

as the time advanced, our managing system kept falling like a soap from wett
hands.

around the time in mid-2010, the things had totally gone out of hands.

so finally, we had to give up, i hope that we will soon get rid of all the
crisis that we have to face around.

as for the concern, bavisoft may seem to be currently absorved below in the
heaps of marshes, but one day, it will surely be on the top audio games
development.

we know that what exactly a newer audiogamer feels when they are discouraged
from trying our games,
but in that case, nothing much could be done right at this moment.

we are still recovering from all these crisis, but we promise to release
chillingham2, and a few more titles in the audiogaming industry, in the
later coming
years.

acknowledgements,
the bavisoft team

Hi Sky,

The file you need to find and copy is Oldwest.map. It usually gets
placed in something like
c:\Users\Thomas\App Data\Roming\Monkey Business
or something like that. At least that's where I found it on Win 7.
You copy the Oldwest.map file into the Monkey Business folder with the
rest of the map files and you should be set.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you and Kelly. That's why it isn't one of

something like Tarzan Junior or Dark Destroyer because they are
stable, fully functional games, and I can still play them on Windows 7
without any serious issues. However, Science Invasion is a different
story. Its an incomplete beta, and the few times I tried it I had
issues with it. So I decided then and there not to host it. I didn't
really see any point given that the game was incomplete and was not
exactly finished. Plus the fact the beta was leaked to the public
without your permission makes it just that much more problematic
because what we have is a game that was never suppose to be released
to the public in the first place. Honestly I don't know what is so
great about it that people still want the game knowing that it isn't

With respect Jack, might I suggest you employ a litle thought.

As I believe was said earlier, if anyone, including myself, had a copy
of the game we would've replied to one of your numerous previous requests
for it.

Personally, I'm also unsure why you want the game so much. To be honest it
was both very symple and rough in it's sounds, and also so completely bug
wridden as to be literally unplayable, probably why in fact nobody has
kept it around much less registered it.

I actually think a better job (certainly a less buggy one), could be done
with bgt, a few robot movement sounds, a basic grid pattern and a numerical
lock.

The developer imho was really! trying it on if he expected people to pay for

the original game, sinse as I said the bugs and random death made it
absolutely impossible to play (one reason I didn't keep the setup file
myself).

Beware the grue!

Hello Shane, three suggestions. One: in the installation dialogs, when you
install the game, could you add an option to install the game in a different
folder? That would be helpful as I am running windows 7 and I have all my
games on c:\users\user name\games\company\the name of the game
User name being mine, games is the folder, the company of the game, and the
game name. Second, when you play the game, could you create a .exe file that
will let us play the game without having to download the BGT program? And
third, when you are in the game, could you put warming sounds before you
fall into pits? For example in Super liam when you were about to fall into a
hazerd you would get two warming sounds. Thanks for developing the game, it
is awesome so far!

Yes Dark, I had problems with TDL space game a long time ago. Very buggy
game, very cheeky of TDL games to sell it as you said, and I agree with you.
I never even bought the game but I did attempt to Beta test the temple of

I'm afraid I didn't keep the game myself, but to be honest I found it so
buggy as to be unplayable. You'd randomly die for no reason, such as when
putting in numbers of the access code to go to next level, in fact I never
finished the game due to the random deaths.

Imho it was very cheaky of tdl games to attempt to sell the thing in the
first place when it had so many bugs as to not even be vaguely possible to
play.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Subject: [Audyssey] problem with maze game from t d l games

Hi list
I experience some problems with maze game from t d l games.
I have version 0.20 on my pc.
I tried to go to their website:
http://www.tdlgames.co.nr
IN the tdl games submenu under programs, there is a shortcut for tdl games
website, but I was taken to:
http://www.webs.com/abuseFrozen.htm?uname=tdlgames
A website offering services to create blogs and websites. ON that page it
says that the requested website is not available.
I sent an e-mail discussing my problems to the address given in the
documentation:
tdlga...@yahoo.co.uk
The e-mail bounced back to me saying: this user does not have a
yahoo.cco.uk account.
I went to audiogames.net.
Following both the url and download url for tdl maze game, I get a 404
not found error.
And I could not find tdl maze game on
www.pcsgames.net.
I found 2 bugs in maze game.
I played maze game quite a number of times and here is what I found:
1. It happened twice to me that while the ammo sound is playing, there is a
monster; I am unable to pick up the ammo without being killed. In other
words, first I centre the sound of the ammo in my speakers. Then I need to
take 3 steps to pick up the ammo.
I take 2 steps and there the monster is, so when I take the third step I
pick up the ammo but at the same time the monster ate me.
2. all The other times It happened to me that I encounter a monster but
then if I press s for shoot, it looks like my ammo is depleted.
If I press s for shoot, the monster sound starts from the beginning. I
moved back to the start of the maze twice , but I could not find any ammo.
Then if I go back to the monster, I am still not able to shoot.
I press shift r twice to reset the sound system but this did not help.
Does anybody know if tdl games still exist and if so, where can I find them?
  Many thanks.

Hello Damien,

the reason you can't jump over the cavern is because you need to lower down

and then when you have found it. Press the enter key.

Subject: [Audyssey] MOTA16 impressions

Hi Tom and all,
So I finally find time to install Beta 16 of MOTA, and what an impressive
list of changes. Spikes, fires and chasms all seem to have warning ledges
now,
which I really like. The only problems I have come across so far are:
Sometimes when you press Alt plus an arrow key to jump, it interferes with
some sort of menu. Though I don't have a screenreader loaded at the time, my
Windows sound scheme makes a sound when any sort of menu pops up, and it was
making that click every time I walked. As soon as I pressed Alt again, the
menus disappeared. A minor inconvenience, but I thought it should be noted.
The other thing is, I was viewing a room and saw a small chasm on level 2.
Therefore I jumped when I heard the crumbling ledge and subsequently got
killed.
This makes me think that either it was supposed to be a large chasm, or the
length of this particular chasm meant I couldn't jump over it for some
reason.
Other than that, its performance has greatly improved since the last version
I tried, and I am very impressed with the new sounds. The new layout
confused
me for a while, but that I shall get used to in time. The one thing I will
ask is, what happened to the water? I loved swimming past that waterfall.
Heheh.
Regards,
Damien.

Hi there,

I've just joined up and thought it would be seemly if I said hello.

I'm Neophyte and I blog at a site called In The Company of Grues. I'm
sighted but a couple of my blind interactive fiction peers have been
helping me gain a more complex understanding of accessibility gaming,
something I've been a quiet advocate of for a number of years in my work
within the games industry.

More recently, I started work on a couple of projects and was inspired to
join Audyssey.

I'm currently playing a few games from the 2010 IF competition and I'm
reading a great book called Wake, by science fiction author Robert Sawyer.
The book was recommended to me by a blind friend who used to play Eamon
games and interactive fiction.

Well, hopefully this all works. This is the first time I've used an email
discussion list.

Chat soon.

Cheers,

Neophyte
