[Audyssey] MOTA suggestion
Hello Thoas, I have been playing you're beta of Mota and I absolutely love it. the pan works as expected. oddly enough, in the previus beta that I played, no blue screen happened on when I exited the game. I do have a suggestion for the next BETA which I believe is beta16. Could you add in the ability to close doors? what I mean is, when you've exited a room, could you have the ability to press the enter key on a statue or a door to move it back into place? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Preordering was Max Shrapnell
Hello Thomas, I aggree with you about James. We preordered esp pbx for my birthday but it never got released till 2005 and it was 2003 when we ordered it. I was rather pesty towards him in my early days back nin 2002 but since then it has come a long long way - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 2010 10:57 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Preordering was Max Shrapnell Hi, Shaun wrote: OUT of ALL THAT THOUGH WE HAVE LEARNED NOT TO PREORDER TILL WE HAVE A RELEASE DATE SET AND NOT TO SET THAT DATE TILL WE ARE JUST ABOUT TO FINNISH THE PROJECT. My reply: Well, I certainly agree the way James North handled the preorders was definitely not the way to go about it, but I also believe that doesn't completely rule out having some sort of preorder option available for small time developers. Che Martin, for example, had a great preorder system going for Rail Racer. What he did that made it work is he had an early alpha or beta version ready to go so even if people preordered early they got the full game such as it was every few days untl the final release of the project. Plus they got up to date news of what was happening and ai fairly good idea when a next update would appear. All of it was to the good, and showed he could be trusted with their money. One major reason why James North got burned for his preordering is he was too closed mouth about everything, and made a lot of promises he couldn't keep. For example, I placed an order for Montezuma's Revenge in December 2004 with the understanding the game was to ship around Christmas. Next thing we knew it was delayed, because of something about a problem with the registration system, and he was holding it back to fix that. Months later he was pressured into releasing a demo of Montezuma's Revenge. To Everyones amazement the game was far from complete, and had a number of notable bugs like the ladder bug. The very bug I ended up fixing personally when I got the source code. To make a long story short he did a lot of things wrong. He should have put out a demo early on before he took any preorders. Instead of saying the game was going to be done for Christmas he should have been more open and honest about what was left to be done with the game such as he had two levels and a bonus level complete, and had a third level that was never released to the general public but I found on the cd of materials he sent me. There was no registration system at all in the game which could mean two things. If he had one he yanked it out before giving me the source code, or the more likely explanation there never was one to begin with. whatever the case he did intentionally mislead everyone about the development progress until he was pressured into releasing the demo that was far from complete. Not being completely honest with the public was definitely his first mistake, and the source of most of his problems with the community. Basically, i feel if a developer chooses to take preorders they can do so with the understanding they release demos, trailers, news letters, etc to keep everyone informed of the development process of the game. No one expects a game to be created in a month, maybe not even six months, but they do expect to be kept honestly informed of changes and how much progress is being made. Oh by the way Thomas, while I was going through the sounds folder I saw a file with a monster that appears when you go into the water. I played both levels, and the water is not in the beta I've got. That is like totally criminal. I never liked jaws anyways. It started to become worse and worse from the first version it was built. It seems like they don't give a damn about fixing issues. They instead add more useless, even more broken features. With useless I especially point at re-search it... I mean everyone can go to google and search for something. It is easy enough. And you will probably have more from it anyways. Also, they don't delete useless files. If, for example, some jawsAPI has been changed, the old DLL is still found somewhere hiding deep in the version. Because of this, the setup files keep growing, and growing, and becoming bigger and bigger. Also, look at sapi 5 support. It is broken. Actually, it worked just fine in version 5.0. Since then, it's broken! It crashes on almost any voice! And then instead of fixing it, they delete it totally? I mean come on! And so I converted over to NVDA, and didn't even bother to install jaws on my laptop. I also removed it from my desktop, since it messed up the graphics card so badly, I hardly could do something. However, there are plenty of alternatives than supporting the screen readers directly. For example, Time of Conflict and Lone Wolf allow you to select SAPI, Jaws, or Window-Eyes. As far as I am concerned using SAPI 5 support is enough and doesn't show favoritism to any screen reader or screen reader manufacturer. It is more ideal anyway as you aren't trying to support every screen reader out there directly. I've actually been asked a few times if I would add Jaws support to my games. While I understand the nature of the requests I have made a polacy not to support any screen readers directly. First of all, it requires more work supporting each and every screen readers individual API directly. Second of all, I feel supporting Freedom Scientific's products goes against my principles. For one thing they have an unfair advantage over their competition because they are largely supported through businesses, government agencies, organizations, and so on that aren't willing to support GW Micro, Dolphin, etc as well. Then, Freedom Scientific shows the world what they are really like by dragging GW Micro, FBC, and anyone else they see as a threat into court. Over the past year or so it has been one lawsuit after another. I happen to know they have a tendancy to treat their customers with little regard or respect as well. For example, a friend of mine ordered a dongle from F.S. and when he got it he found out it was deffective. Instead of exchanging it or something reasonable they told him he had to order a new one at full price. That's down right criminal in my book. I'm at 40% and need to get back up to 100%. The only door in the free area is the termimal. I must tell you guys that on my xp laptop once I mammaged to find a room with the syburg man and woman in it but that was two years ago since I found that door and I can't remember what I did to find it. There's a door that requires a yellow key, but I can't find any keys on that level. any help would be greatly appreciated! --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. We're trying to lay the foundation for more frequent releases by developing robust frameworks, engines, and automated much of the manual labor that is involved in the development and maintenance of Draconis Entertainment. It's been a long, long road, and we've been working on other projects as well besides strictly games...but we do hope to release them more frequently soon. While news has been slow in coming, we're still working hard to deliver new games for both Mac and Windows. We're sorry it is taking so long. We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles, Draconis has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are some particular items of note. 1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have suggested. For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working on, something that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But we do understand how nice it would be for gamers to know how things are progressing. To that end, we've decided that we will keep gamers informed on the day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some extent. Don't expect the top secret details, but do expect to have a better idea of what is being worked on. Draconis has opened a Twitter profile and account that gamers can follow to find out a little about what's happening behind the scenes at Draconis. Follow us, and see our Twitter page at http://twitter.com/DracoEnt 2. We are currently building an automated key generation system. This means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your registration for the game immediately. No more human processing will be required. The new system will be employed for all existing and future titles. This will dramatically change how we do things, as we'll be able to spend far more time on development, and less time on processing orders. 3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to bring you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind musicians, Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is celebrating its first release. It's an EP entitled Opening Act, and is available on iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music shops under the Draconis Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of the tracks on the EP is the instrumental piece that serves as part of the Draconis audio logo. The band site is http://stage19music.com 4. We have two developers working on the new titles. Silver Dollar is nearing completion and will be a free offering for both Mac and Windows users. Thanks for your continued support. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 4
Hi Thomas, I'm poasting this a little late, I should have sent this earlier. The only advantages to increaseing how many times you have to hit an enemy, is that you can easally run out of bullets. Last Night, I couldn't get through the whole game, as I ran out of bullets while killing an enemy. It was actually the centaur that I was killing. Also, while ducking an enemy, sometimes if I hold down the control-down arrow key, sometimes the enemies weapons hits you even when you are ducked down. Is this Nourmal behavior or what? - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Charles Rivard woofer...@sbcglobal.net; Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, April 13, 2009 6:52 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 4 Hi, Darn right! Will the grid for level 1 be the same for the released version? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Liam and list. I bought Judgement day as a christmas present in 2006, and I have upgraded to a Vista computer, I originally put the game on my xp laptop and it works but my question is if I put it on Vista, I would still need to email you the product ID for vista? - Original Message - From: Yohandy yohand...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, April 05, 2009 6:27 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] LWorks says goodbye to machine based licensing, and hello to a new Judgment day Thanks Liam. This system was originally written to discourage piracy. In theory, it was a great system, but leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to ease of registration. So I'm announcing that today, all future titles from LWorks will use a user-based licensing system. My plan is to release an updated version of Judgment day some time this month that will use this user-based system. There will be no more machine-based codes, and no need to constantly email support for new codes. I'm hoping that this will help gamers overall who don't want to have to wait to get replacement keys. there will also be a few other small features that will be in the next release, so stay tuned. Re: [Audyssey] puppy1
Hi Jim, I really like your Puppy 1 game. It's a really great game. I do have a suggestion for the next release. When you get limed up on the enemy, would it be possible to get a beeping noise to let you know that you are on top of the enemy? that's what some games do when you get the enemy in the center and you are in fireing range. - Original Message - From: Jim Kitchen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: shaun everiss Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, July 03, 2008 5:23 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] puppy1 Hi shaun, Thank you very much. Hi guys, it's great to be back poasting to this list after a long time. Anyways, I have a question. I got Judgement Day for christmas in 2006, and I registered the game on my new laptop for christmas. I remember installing Panzers from the floppy disc. smile I was introduced to the world of audio gaming via my Kurzweil 1000 disc. For those who don't know, Kurzweil 1000 has an extras folder on it with many accessible programs and games. I remember the cops game, Monopoly, Maze, Mobious, and many other games I tried during that time. I bought the floppy version of Panzers in North Africa and Monopoly somewhere around 1999-2000. The play was kind of slow and choppy, but I really enjoyed those games. Thanks Jim Kitchen for making a more smoother version of Monopoly to play. Is anyone working on a more recent version of Cops and Panzers in North Africa? I really enjoyed the theme and play of those games, especially Panzers. Having the various weapons and tanks was great. I know David Greenwood did GMA Tank Commander, but It is not the same type of game. Thanks for reading and allowing me to share. Very well, go, and don't breathe a word, that you were in the Castle. I would triple-check you with my Secrecy Sensor, and force you to empty out all your pockets, but the headmaster is instructed me to let you go. Go now, I have to write up a report, go! You then get a re-play of some of the more distinctive sounds in the game over the top of the exit music. If the ending is not clear enough I could add a congratulation you won the game but I will have to say it. Sarah is saying the money left in her bag including 150 extra gallions won by catching the snitch. I think I have fixed the motorcycle but that only gives you a faster way of getting the snitch. Hi, I just tried the game book. I'm personally not impressed with it so far for a few reasons. For one thing, it says this is a one-day demo, which I think is way too short a time. The speech was also off when the program was started for the first time, but I found out that pressing the equals key will toggle it on or off. I suppose that's not so bad, but I'm not impressed with the speech synthesizer they're using (he sounds bored!) and there's a delay when selecting options or typing in something. I'll admit I only played with this for a few minutes, and haven't explored the program fully, so these are just my first impressions. Thanks. Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support.
I have a Windows Vista machine with both Jaws and Window-Eyes, which I am getting a fully licenced copy of which still hasn't arrived yet.- Original Message - From: Charles Rivard [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 7:06 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support. I use Windows xp Home, and plan to do so for as long as possible. As long as it meets my needs, which it currently does, and until Vista's bugs are worked out to a point at which it is reliable and user friendly to users of jaws, no change here. I'll bet there are more users of XP than there are of Vista, and that you should make your games usable to the largest segment of the blind gaming market. Making a product usable for 25 while cutting out the other 175 current users, in my opinion, would be a bad move. While my numbers are most likely not right, you get the idea, I'm sure. Thanks. - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 3:31 PM Subject: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support. Hi all, Recently I've been strongly considering upgrading all my games to the .Net Framework 3.0 in order to better support windows Vista which others and I now are using on a daily basis. The plus side of doing this is that all that will be required is installing or upgrading DirectX to Aug. 2007, and then install my games on Vista. The downside is that users using anything earlier than Windows XP will have no support for my games. I've read that .Net Framework 3.0 only supports, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP all versions, and Windows Vista. Which means if there are any of you still using Win 2K it will no longer be supported. First, I'd like to know if there are any of you out there using or playing my games on Windows 2000. I need to know how big an impact this would be updating to .Net 3.0. Second, how many have upgraded to Vista, or plan to upgrade to Vista in the next year or two. I've not come anywhere close to beating it, and don't want to really. I've yet to really make it much of anywhere--true, I've gotten fairly rich and found a few rather amazing places, but haven't yet found any real direction. I don't mind this in the least. One thing I love about this game, which I haven't found anywhere else, is a sense of a world with unlimited places to explore. There is this odd sense that if I just keep going in a direction somewhere I'll find something interesting, or run into a new town, or a new inn, or a new place where I can appreciate the depth of detail that's offered here. I've never before encountered a sense like the following: When the character in Fallthru travels from town to town over roads, it seems like he's really traveling somewhere. I get this odd sense that, wow, that really did take three days! (That's game time, of course.) Since I haven't really scratched the surface of this game yet, I have to wonder what it'll be like if I keep going. I know this game isn't for everyone. It's tedious and hard to get anywhere sometimes because you're constantly trying to stay alive. There are so many places to go that it is hard to choose. I find myself setting out long term goals for spots I want to see and realizing, a few days and some food later, that I really should've reconsidered. No other game has quite given me this feeling. I'm just curious, therefore, if anybody on this list still plays the game? If so, does it stay this engrossing all the way through? No, don't answer that. I want to find out for myself. Re: [Audyssey] chamber of the puzzles in scw
s p o i l e r You need to pick a frog's pine chesspiece, which is in the honeydukes shop, which is right next to the door where you enter the third floor. Then, you need to drop the frog in front of the voice. That's how you can get across. - Original Message - From: nicol [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 1:13 PM Subject: [Audyssey] chamber of the puzzles in scw I'm putting spoiler space in front of my messages so that the information I might give in the process of asking a question will not spoil the fun for gamers. So if I'm putting spoiler space in front of a question, its just to prevent stepping onto toes. S P O I L E R I've read the piece about fluffy in the hp books and it is so that the fire lighting charm destroys the plant so that I have managed. But now I'm really stuck guys. I've read the whole piece about the chamber of puzzles. First of all harry and his friends gets into a chamber where they catch a key on wings. I didn't find such a thing in the sarah game. Next they plays chess and then they come into a passage where they drink wine to escape the flames. Now in the sarah game I haven't find any place having something to do with chess. I can here female and male voices saying something like wine, but my x key tells me absolutely nothing. The only thing shift+d tells me is frog. And yes I can hear a frog croaking. But I suppose like harry and his friends did, sarah have to drink wine out of the little bottle to escape the flames. Well first of all I don't hear any flames and I've stood in front of one of the voices saying wine and tried every single possibility in the game, nothing happens. No spell, no password, no pressing enter, nothing. How do I drink the wine? How do I exit the chamber of puzzles. The only way I can find is to aparate. Strange enough when I'm near to the devil snare plant, shift+d tells me that the trap door and plant is so many feet ahead of me but my x key only says devil snare plant, not trap door. At one stage while in the chamber of puzzles I all of a sudden got in to the honey duke sweet shop, I don't know how I got there. Phil, can you please please do something about the bathrooms in a future patch. If I'm in a bathroom I can't get out. I only can find the doors to the toilets within the bathroom. Once I'm in a girls or boys bathroom I can't find the way out. I try to listen for the snoring but there is no way I can find the exit. ___ Gamers mailing list .. But I can imagine the young voldemort deciding that the diary might not do and having him putting a bit of himself in something in the castle that comes alive. Mix the way the chess pieces were animated with the way the portraits talk and think and you might have a close representation of a boss. The only thing this robot voldemort could not do is cast spells. Or how about if voldemort took over the brain of a House-Elf? I think I will wait until book seven is released to speculate on what else is in the castle to find. Phil ___ Gamers mailing list .. Emotional appeals just won't work. For developers, for companies, it's all about the money, about the glitz, the gloss, the numbers. They won't write games for niche markets, and since the needs of the disabled community are scattered, with different accommodations required for blind, deaf, and paraplegic users, they won't be able to round us up into a significant enough market to make their corporate sponsors care. Developing to targeted audiences also does take time, not just in coding, but in testing as well. We have to make that worthwhile, and an emotional appeal won't do that. To suggest that it will come easily trivializes the programming effort involved. Besides, developers reading that article might fleetingly be affected by the prose, but they'll forget it tomorrow. Most of us, whoever we are, don't think about what could happen tomorrow. We don't dwell on the possibilities that were outlined. We keep going until it happens, and then we try to cope. Get ahold of the nearest lending library, just a regular town library is fine. Ask them if they're willing to order in the Harry Potter books on tape for you The ones read by Jim Dale or Stephen Fry are both the full book, you don't miss anything.. Read those books, all 6 of them if you can. Since the Sarah game is based on the Harry Potter series, as it says plainly on pcs games, people should probably have read those books. To give you an example: I just saw a message about a dementor. s p o i l e r just in case. If it comes out of a cabinet, it's not actually a dementor. It's something mentioned in the third book, a bogart. Harry, and obviously Sarah, have a fear of dementors, allowing the creature to turn into one. Dementors are much harder to get rid of, being the real thing, and the person would've known this had they read the books. So please, do so. I'm not trying to be rude, offend anyone or lay blame or anything. I'm just pointing out that the game will go so much easier for you if you get ahold of the harry potter books. I'm sure bookshare has them, or whatever braille or accessible material library you have in your country. Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!
Hi Nicol, The difference between the dementor on the easy and hard difficulties is after you scare him away, if you re-open the cavanet he will come back. same is the hard level, but you get to see the dementor in the basement, which is before opening the cavanet. Hello Tom. currently, I'm being forced to use Ms sam in games. Even though I use the orphius voice Alan with Hal, for some odd reason I have severe trouble trying to make any alterations to Sapi, - either using the Orphius Sapi runtime libraries, or trying to install the other Ms voices (though I am looking into buying Realspeak Daniel soon, which will hopefully work). The point is that at the moment, I'm not experiencing the best in synth voice quality when it comes to games. I find though, i can generally cope with Ms Sam as long as the information I'm getting is of a fairly general nature, such as reading numbers or other status information. I do find however, that a game (or indeed a text), loses a lot of it's atmospheric content when dialogue or other speeches requiring emotion or characterization are read in an emotionless synthetic voice, and obviously the worse the voice, the worse the problem, though for in game character speech, even something like Realspeak would be inadequate Imho. I know that Phil got Sarah voice acted just for this reason. To give an example, I have no problem with most of the Sapi used in Lone wolf, even with ms Sam, however in the next version it might improve the atmosphere of the game considerably if a few phrases, supposedly spoken by the sub's crew, were actually recorded in Wav. these could include torpedo's away! she's hit! (obviously having the crew speak the names of enemy craft wouldn't be practical), and the various damage reports. I can appreciate the difficulties in recording many wavs, and also that would make things more difficult for people with slower internet connections to download the game, however on the other hand, I do feel that the use of synth voices for characterization in games can be extremely harmful to the game' atmosphere, and (where applicable), how believeable those characters are. so for Monti, I'd personally go for having your health, score, current level and other status info spoken buy Sapi, but if ever panama Jo (or whoever we've got starring in the game at the moment), has to do any talking, have it recorded by a real live voice actor. I will admit, as somebody who does fairly major stuff on stage, I am probably fairly exacting as far as the acting side of gaming goes. Btw, If the character's in the game are robots, as in Galaxy ranger, I think a synth voice can actually fit in rather well. It's actually been done in various films and Tv series I think, Tron, Space above and beyond and war games for example. Well that's my thoughts on the subject, though everyone else's might be different. All the best Dark. ___ Gamers mailing list .. Re: [Audyssey] sarah haloween sneek preview
It hasn't been released yet. - Original Message - From: Cary [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Gamers Discussion list' gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2007 11:37 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] sarah haloween sneek preview I haven't been reading the games list because I've been sooo busy with other things, but today I read some of the messages, and am I understanding it right that Sarah has been released? I went to www.pcsgames.net and saw something about it, but I couldn't find any info on where to download it, or how to purchase it. I'd really love to buy this game if it is indeed been released so any info would be appreciated. -Cary -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Phil Vlasak Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2007 12:16 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] sarah haloween sneek preview Hi Nicol, I just finished that level at Halloween last year and wanted to show people what was to come. I will be creating another sneak preview soon but probably not on the demo level because anyone can download the game and try that out themselves. The game has not yet been released. Phil put up a file on his site long ago, it was a sneek preview of the divination classroom on floor7. He will let everyone know when the game is available. Hay phil btw why did you choose the divination classroom for the sneek preview? It would be interesting if you could do a sneek preview of sarah on the ground floor scaring a ghost. Just my thought. sincerely -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2007 6:46 PM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] sarah haloween sneek preview hi this sounds like a cool game can you tel me where I could get it from. lots of thanks. ___ Gamers mailing list ..
