[Audyssey] MOTA suggestion

2010-10-22 Thread Sky Taylor
Hello Thoas, I have been playing you're beta of Mota and I absolutely love
it. the pan works as expected. oddly enough, in the previus beta that I
played, no blue screen happened on when I exited the game. I do have a
suggestion for the next BETA which I believe is beta16. Could you add in the
ability to close doors? what I mean is, when you've exited a room, could you
have the ability to press the enter key on a statue or a door to move it
back into place?

Hi,

Shaun wrote:
OUT of ALL THAT THOUGH WE HAVE LEARNED NOT TO PREORDER TILL WE HAVE A

RELEASE DATE SET AND NOT TO SET THAT DATE TILL WE ARE JUST ABOUT TO
FINNISH THE PROJECT.

My reply:
Well, I certainly agree the way James North handled the preorders was
definitely not the way to go about it, but I also believe that doesn't
completely rule out having some sort of preorder option available for
small time developers.
Che Martin, for example, had a great preorder system going for Rail
Racer. What he did that made it work is he had an early alpha or beta
version ready to go so even if people preordered early they got the
full game such as it was every few days untl the final release of the
project. Plus they got up to date news of what was happening and ai
fairly good idea when a next update would appear. All of it was to the
good, and showed he could be trusted with their money.
One major reason why James North got burned for his preordering is he
was too closed mouth about everything, and made a lot of promises he
couldn't keep. For example, I placed an order for Montezuma's Revenge
in December 2004 with the understanding the game was to ship around
Christmas. Next thing we knew it was delayed, because of something
about a problem with the registration system, and he was holding it
back to fix that. Months later he was pressured into releasing a demo
of Montezuma's Revenge. To Everyones amazement the game was far from
complete, and had a number of notable bugs like the ladder bug. The
very bug I ended up fixing personally when I got the source code.
To make a long story short he did a lot of things wrong. He should
have put out a demo early on before he took any preorders. Instead of
saying the game was going to be done for Christmas he should have been
more open and honest about what was left to be done with the game such
as he had two levels and a bonus level complete, and had a third level
that was never released to the general public but I found on the cd of
materials he sent me. There was no registration system at all in the
game which could mean two things. If he had one he yanked it out
before giving me the source code, or the more likely explanation there
never was one to begin with. whatever the case he did intentionally
mislead everyone about the development progress until he was pressured
into releasing the demo that was far from complete. Not being
completely honest with the public was definitely his first mistake,
and the source of most of his problems with the community.
Basically, i feel if a developer chooses to take preorders they can do
so with the understanding they release demos, trailers, news letters,
etc to keep everyone informed of the development process of the game.
No one expects a game to be created in a month, maybe not even six
months, but they do expect to be kept honestly informed of changes and
how much progress is being made.

Cheers!

HI,

I must absolutely agree with the message below! That is like totally
criminal. I never liked jaws anyways. It started to become worse and
worse from the first version it was built. It seems like they don't give
a damn about fixing issues. They instead add more useless, even more
broken features. With useless I especially point at re-search it... I
mean everyone can go to google and search for something. It is easy
enough. And you will probably have more from it anyways. Also, they don't
delete useless files. If, for example, some jawsAPI has been changed, the
old DLL is still found somewhere hiding deep in the version. Because of
this, the setup files keep growing, and growing, and becoming bigger and
bigger. Also, look at sapi 5 support. It is broken. Actually, it worked
just fine in version 5.0. Since then, it's broken! It crashes on almost
any voice! And then instead of fixing it, they delete it totally? I mean
come on!

And so I converted over to NVDA, and didn't even bother to install jaws

on

my laptop. I also removed it from my desktop, since it messed up the
graphics card so badly, I hardly could do something. And no, it's not! a
bad card.

 Hi Charles,
You are absolutely right from a business point of view. However, there
are plenty of alternatives than supporting the screen readers
directly. For example, Time of Conflict and Lone Wolf allow you to
select SAPI, Jaws, or Window-Eyes. As far as I am concerned using SAPI
5 support is enough and doesn't show favoritism to any screen reader
or screen reader manufacturer. It is more ideal anyway as you aren't
trying to support every screen reader out there directly.
I've actually been asked a few times if I would add Jaws support to my
games. While I understand the nature of the requests I have made a
polacy not to support any screen readers directly. First of all, it
requires more work supporting each and every screen readers individual
API directly. Second of all, I feel supporting Freedom Scientific's
products goes against my principles. For one thing they have an unfair
advantage over their competition because they are largely supported
through businesses, government agencies, organizations, and so on that
aren't willing to support GW Micro, Dolphin, etc as well. Then,
Freedom Scientific shows the world what they are really like by
dragging GW Micro, FBC, and anyone else they see as a threat into
court. Over the past year or so it has been one lawsuit after another.
I happen to know they have a tendancy to treat their customers with
little regard or respect as well. For example, a friend of mine
ordered a dongle from F.S. and when he got it he found out it was
deffective. Instead of exchanging it or something reasonable they told
him he had to order a new one at full price. That's down right
criminal in my book. Why continue supporting a business, any business,
if they are going to treat their customers like that?

They seriously did that? This quite honestly does not surprise me. Window

Actually, if I wanted to, I could sue freedom scientific for several
things.

Since I now own the rights to the windows bridge code,
I could sue for all kinds of things they swiped from wb (such as the
capslock key as a modifier) as well as several inovations which were
frist

introduced by wb before they made it into jaws as a product.
I'm not really interested in such nonsense, but I might write them a
letter explaining my unhappiness with their current operating procedures,

and see if they'd be willing to ... prevent a suit ... hmm,
now there's a though. :)

I lose the game as I'm not ducking fast. I'm at 40% and need to get back up to
100%. The only door in the free area is the termimal. I must tell you guys that
on my xp laptop once I mammaged to find a room with the syburg man and woman in
it but that was two years ago since I found that door and I can't remember what
I did to find it. There's a door that requires a yellow key, but I can't find

Will,

We hope to have at least one other title out before the end of the year,
but no promises. We're trying to lay the foundation for more frequent
releases by developing robust frameworks, engines, and automated much of
the manual labor that is involved in the development and maintenance of
Draconis Entertainment. It's been a long, long road, and we've been
working on other projects as well besides strictly games...but we do hope
to release them more frequently soon.

Greetings gamers,

This note is a quick sneak peek at a few items that will be announced
officially on the Draconis web site soon.

While news has been slow in coming, we're still working hard to deliver
new games for both Mac and Windows. We're sorry it is taking so long.

We've not been idle here. In addition to the future titles, Draconis
has decided to change things just a little bit. Here are some
particular items of note.

1. We don't want to do a development blog, like many have suggested.
For one thing, it reveals too much of what we're working on, something
that we have a longstanding policy of not doing. But we do understand
how nice it would be for gamers to know how things are progressing. To
that end, we've decided that we will keep gamers informed on the
day-to-day happenings at Draconis to some extent. Don't expect the top
secret details, but do expect to have a better idea of what is being
worked on. Draconis has opened a Twitter profile and account that
gamers can follow to find out a little about what's happening behind
the scenes at Draconis. Follow us, and see our Twitter page at
http://twitter.com/DracoEnt

2. We are currently building an automated key generation system. This
means that, when you purchase our games, you will receive your
registration for the game immediately. No more human processing will be
required. The new system will be employed for all existing and future
titles. This will dramatically change how we do things, as we'll be
able to spend far more time on development, and less time on processing
orders.

3. We've expanded our offerings to include music. We're proud to bring
you a new band called Stage 19. Consisting of two blind musicians,
Molly McClenahan and Josh de Lioncourt, Stage 19 is celebrating its
first release. It's an EP entitled Opening Act, and is available on
iTunes, Amazon MP3, and other digital music shops under the Draconis
Entertainment label. Incidentally, one of the tracks on the EP is the
instrumental piece that serves as part of the Draconis audio logo. The
band site is http://stage19music.com

4. We have two developers working on the new titles. Silver Dollar is
nearing completion and will be a free offering for both Mac and Windows
users.

Thanks for your continued support. The best years are still ahead of
us. In the end, it'll be worth the wait. Thanks for sticking with us.

Hi all,
Just a quick message to say hello and such.
I am totally blind and live In Louisiana.
My screen reader of choice is Window Eyes, however I will use Jaws for
certain things.
I mostly enjoy the shooter/action type games. I also play muds although
I usually stick to one or two and don't really try out a lot of different
ones. I pretty much stick to Alter Aeon and Miriani.

That's it if I want to keep it short. I'll answer any questions if anyone

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA beta 4

2009-04-19 Thread Sky Taylor
Hi Thomas, I'm poasting this a little late, I should have sent this earlier.
The only advantages to increaseing how many times you have to hit an enemy,
is that you can easally run out of bullets. Last Night, I couldn't get
through the whole game, as I ran out of bullets while killing an enemy. It
was actually the centaur that I was killing. Also, while ducking an enemy,
sometimes if I hold down the control-down arrow key, sometimes the enemies
weapons hits you even when you are ducked down. Is this Nourmal behavior or
what?

Hi,
Darn right! I made them harder to kill and like the new enemies stamina.
Each enemy has their own stamina levels so a centaur is tougher to take
down than a harpy or skeleton. Skeletons are kind of on the wimpy side so
they are easier to take down than a harpy. Adds a little challenge to the
game.

Hi tom and all
I'm desperately needing advice. my mom got a fit when she saw me reading
an
e-mail with regards to mota. I assured her that I will not play games on
her
computer which is against her principles. you see I belong to the
religion:

jehovah's witnesses.
they believe that playing certain games like games containing violence or
the supernatural is sin.they refuse to accept it that a game is only a
game.

when my mom saw the word tomb hunter she immediately asked me: what is a
tomb son?
its where dead people is.
so she assumes mota has to do with the dead and therefore its a sin to
play

mota.
I told her what tom had told us, that mota is based on greek myths and
legends.
so my mom replied: exactly, so this game you want to play has something to
do with idolatry.
how on earth can I explain to my mom that mota is not a harmfull game.
she doesn't want me to play the game on my pc as well.
of course its my pc and I'm adult and she can't decide for me but she
will

continuously nag or put the elders on me until I listen to them and I like
mota, I'm not going to listen to them.
I'm going to purchase mota.
in the past elders confiscated music on my computer violently by pulling
me
away from my computer. my mom hates sod just as much, she feels sod is
also

a sin to play.
but tom I would like your 2 cents view on this matter.
can you or others tell me why the jehovah witnesses view games like mota
as

a sin and is mota really sin to play?
thanks

One of the major complaints that gamers have had is that all of LWork's
games use a machine-based licensing system. This system was originally
written to discourage piracy. In theory, it was a great system, but
leaves

a lot to be desired when it comes to ease of registration. So I'm
announcing that today, all future titles from LWorks will use a
user-based
licensing system. My plan is to release an updated version of Judgment
day
some time this month that will use this user-based system. There will be
no

more machine-based codes, and no need to constantly email support for new
codes. I'm hoping that this will help gamers overall who don't want to
have

to wait to get replacement keys. there will also be a few other small
features that will be in the next release, so stay tuned.

Hi Jim, I really like your Puppy 1 game. It's a really great game. I do have

it be possible to get a beeping noise to let you know that you are on top of

Make sure tj is installed on the c drive.
The patch will look for the folder c:\program files\tarzan junior.
If that doesn't work, create a blank folder in windows.
If your program files folder is on another drive than c create a blank
folder on c named program files, then go into that blank folder and
 create
 a
folder within it called tarzan junior.
Now run the patch, copy whatever the patch extracted to that folder and
paste it in the folder where tj is installed. Hth
In my case tj didn't work because windows xp runs on a partitioned drive
with the letters d and e and so program files is on d, if this is the
 case
with you then just install it on c. hth

 Hi
Thanks for reminding me of those games.
Carl Mickla and I worked on them when our company was Personal Computer
 Systems.
When Carl left the company to work for IBM, I changed the name to PCS
 Games.
A year ago Carl was thinking about doing an on-line version of Panzers
 with
another programmer but that guy backed out.
I am planning on a Windows version of Cops as my next game release.
It will use the GMA game engine and will be like the second level of Tank
Commander but with the added feature that you can get out of your police
car, walk around and go into buildings chasing criminals.

 Hi list,
I was doing some reminiscing today and thought about those 2 games
mentioned in the subject line. I remember installing Panzers from the
 floppy disc. smile
I was introduced to the world of audio gaming via my Kurzweil 1000 disc.
For those who don't know, Kurzweil 1000 has an extras folder on it with
 many accessible programs and games.
I remember the cops game, Monopoly, Maze, Mobious, and many other games I
 tried during that time.
I bought the floppy version of Panzers in North Africa and Monopoly
somewhere around 1999-2000. The play was kind of slow and choppy, but I
 really enjoyed those games.
Thanks Jim Kitchen for making a more smoother version of Monopoly to
 play.
Is anyone working on a more recent version of Cops and Panzers in North
 Africa?
I really enjoyed the theme and play of those games, especially Panzers.
Having the various weapons and tanks was great. I know David Greenwood
did GMA Tank Commander, but It is not the same type of game.
Thanks for reading and allowing me to share.

 Hi Jeremy,
As I do not have Vista I can not guarantee that all flavors of Vista will
play the Sarah game but I think tom Ward tried it and found that it does
 work.
Since Sarah uses the GMA game engine then all the GMA games that use the
 engine should work the same.
If you have successfully played Tank Commander, Shades of Doom or Pacman
Talks then the Sarah game will work too.
They all put the files into c:\program files so you may need authority to
 put game files there.

hi phil. I'm quite impressed with the quiditch pitch. The sound the
bludgers makes when they injure sarah is perfect. Its spookie. I wanted
 to
keep the quiditch pitch for last after i have solved the other puzzles
 but
i wanted to see what happens if i go out of an owlery window while on my
broom. I haven't been to the forbidden forest. I catched the snitch very
easily. I just side stepped a few times and then i got it. I'm playing
 on
easy difficulty. I'm just very disappointed that the game locks up if i
get close to the motor bike. When i managed to catch the snitch i heard
the caretaker talking with sarah and then i hear dementors. It seems
 like
they carry sarah away. When i finish the game i would like to hear
congrachulations, you have completed sarah and the castle of witchcraft
and wizardry successfully. After the dementors i hear sarah saying the
money left in her bag and then i hear the pcs games logo tune. If i
 have
to do something to prevent the dementors from taking sarah away please
don't give the solution, i want to figure it out first. I just thought
 of
mentioning it to you in case its a bug. Please also note that the troll
 on
floor7 doesn't eat any bad candy. The only way to get past it is to stun
it. Also no password works on the lady in the portrait. According to one
of the books harry and his friends spoke the picksnout password to go in
and out of the castle so i suppose its probably another way to get to
 the
quiditch pitch but if i try picksnout the lady says no password no
entrance. No other password works either. i still have the problem that
when i arrow down my inventory to get to the crystal ball the game locks
up. I'll have to start the game all over from the ground floor and try
 to
get rid of unnecessary inventory items. I'll eat all sweets as i pick
 them
up and stuff such as those in the room of requirement i'll store in the
broom cupboard. Hopefully the game won't lock up if i scroll down my
inventory. It appears that i can't drop a nimbus broom if i have 3. If
 i
try to drop a magic or normal broom if i have more than one, both brooms
are dropped instead. And if i drop books i have read in the library it
should also solve my inventory problem. I just wish you can soon do
 something about the motor bike.

 Hi Nicol,
Congratulations you won the Sarah game!
 spoiler
 space
I thought having the caretaker tell you in character that you won would be
great, but I guess you did not get the idea that after he says,
(resigned voice trying to hold in his anger)
OK, so, You caught the snitch!
Very well, go, and don't breathe a word,
that you were in the Castle.
I would triple-check you with my Secrecy Sensor, and force you to empty
 out
 all your pockets,
but the headmaster is instructed me to let you go.
 Go now,
I have to write up a report, go!
You then get a re-play of some of the more distinctive sounds in the game
over the top of the exit music.
If the ending is not clear enough I could add a congratulation you won the
game but I will have to say it.
Sarah is saying the money left in her bag including 150 extra gallions won
 by catching the snitch.

I think I have fixed the motorcycle but that only gives you a faster way
 of
 getting the snitch.

I hope to be releasing the next patch soon.
 Phil

I'm playing on
easy difficulty. I'm just very disappointed that the game locks up if i
get close to the motor bike. When i managed to catch the snitch i heard
the caretaker talking with sarah and then i hear dementors. It seems like
they carry sarah away. When i finish the game i would like to hear
congrachulations, you have completed sarah and the castle of witchcraft
and wizardry successfully. After the dementors i hear sarah saying the
money left in her bag and then i hear the pcs games logo tune. If i have
to do something to prevent the dementors from taking sarah away please
don't give the solution, i want to figure it out first. I just thought of
mentioning it to you in case its a bug. Please also note that the troll
 on
floor7 doesn't eat any bad candy. The only way to get past it is to stun
it. Also no password works on the lady in the portrait. According to one
of the books harry and his friends spoke the picksnout password to go in
and out of the castle so i suppose its probably another way to get to
 the
quiditch pitch but if i try picksnout the lady says no password no
entrance. No other password works either. i still have the problem that
when i arrow down my inventory to get to the crystal ball the game locks
up. I'll have to start the game all over from
the ground floor and try to get rid of unnecessary inventory items. I'll
eat all sweets as i pick them up and stuff such as those in the room of
requirement i'll store in the broom cupboard. Hopefully the game won't
lock up if i scroll down my inventory. It appears that i can't drop a
nimbus broom if i have 3. If i try to drop a magic or normal broom if i
have more than one, both brooms are dropped instead. And if i drop books
 i
have read in the library it should also solve my inventory problem. I
 just
wish you can soon do something about the motor bike.

I have got a few bugs.

this has happened with the game before patch4.
 and still happens now.
The first headless hat does not time out.
I wouldn't mind but the game does strange things when walking around say
to open a door or something with a password its like the object can not be
seen I here oh no! and its like I hit it or something.
Also not sure if this happens with or without the hat but when I go
through a secret passage I find myself trapped within the walls, I can not
 move anywhere.
Several sound resets later and I can sort of move but there is nothing
around me and I have to exit the game.
also the antichamber door in the big haul does not make any door noise.
and what are all the snoring items in the game, paintings etc do they do
 anything or what.
Some sounds especially if 2 or more doors are around I can get confused
 with some sounds.

then read cheats.txt found in the sod folder in program files.

Hi Hunter,
Two ways. You either collect them by finding them or you use the all
weapons cheat code which gives you all weapons at the beginning of the
game. Nice thing about cheat codes in order to get them you have to beat

the game on easy first.

them?? Experiment and have fun finding out. For example, if you don't

when it tries to extract that files that says can't create audio output for
hangman.exe. Any ideas why? I am useing Windows Vista with 767 mb of ram, with
Jaws 8.0, and Window-Eyes 6.1 full version. Thanks, Sky.

 Hi.

To get the game, you'll need to send an E-mail to Ian Humphries, on

and request it. He'll then send you a copy attached to an E-mail.

He's come up with some rather nice games (hearts and cribbage are my
personal favourites), so I'd advise checking out his site
http://www.omninet.net.au/~irhumph/blindgamers.htm to get an idea of all
 the
games he produces, you can also read a bit more about the Bg Uno game
 there
 as well.

 Hi,
I just tried the game book. I'm personally not impressed with it
so far for a few reasons. For one thing, it says this is a one-day
demo, which I think is way too short a time. The speech was also off
when the program was started for the first time, but I found out that
pressing the equals key will toggle it on or off. I suppose that's
not so bad, but I'm not impressed with the speech synthesizer they're
using (he sounds bored!) and there's a delay when selecting options
or typing in something. I'll admit I only played with this for a few
minutes, and haven't explored the program fully, so these are just my
 first impressions.
Thanks.

 Yours Sincerely,
 Kelly John Sapergia

I use Windows xp Home, and plan to do so for as long as possible. As long
as it meets my needs, which it currently does, and until Vista's bugs are
worked out to a point at which it is reliable and user friendly to users
 of
jaws, no change here. I'll bet there are more users of XP than there are
 of
Vista, and that you should make your games usable to the largest segment
 of
the blind gaming market. Making a product usable for 25 while cutting out
the other 175 current users, in my opinion, would be a bad move. While my
numbers are most likely not right, you get the idea, I'm sure. Thanks.

 Hi all,
Recently I've been strongly considering upgrading all my games to the
.Net Framework 3.0 in order to better support windows Vista which others
and I now are using on a daily basis. The plus side of doing this is
that all that will be required is installing or upgrading DirectX to
Aug. 2007, and then install my games on Vista.
The downside is that users using anything earlier than Windows XP will
have no support for my games. I've read that .Net Framework 3.0 only
supports, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP all versions, and Windows
Vista. Which means if there are any of you still using Win 2K it will no
 longer be supported.
First, I'd like to know if there are any of you out there using or
playing my games on Windows 2000. I need to know how big an impact this
would be updating to .Net 3.0.
Second, how many have upgraded to Vista, or plan to upgrade to Vista in
 the next year or two.
 Thanks.

When I was experimenting with Sapi I wrote a little Swami Speaks program
where you ask it a question and then MS Sam speaks an answer from a

It was especially funny when you asked it a question like does so and so

Anyway, it sounds like this is the stage of RS Games.

Hi, everyone here is a name that I thought of for the flight simulation
 game I suggested.
The name is I suggest is fly for the miles.
The reason I ask the gaming developers to give it a try, because I can
annalize software but I don't know enough programming yet.
I hope you like my idea and the name for the game.

 cHello,
Unfortunately, there is no Windows version. I believe in Issue 36 Michael
had an interview with the game's author where among other things he said
that he'd lost the source code for the game and so couldn't update it.
Nor do I have any idea why Jaws acts that way. I don't use it myself and
so have no knowledge of how it works. I have had great success playing
the game with either Window-Eyes, or DosBox. But DosBox isn't for
 everybody. The setup is complicated.

of problems getting Dos games to work properly. For some reason the
command boxes start up and immediately close back down. Is there a
windows version of this game somewhere? And if not, does anyone have
any ideas as to why Dos programs won't start on my computer? Its a jaws
problem, that I know, because I've had one of my sighted friends start
a dos program without jaws running, and it starts up fine, then I
started jaws while that window was still open and it immediately

Subject: [Audyssey] An appreciation for FallthruHiya, Off and
on over the past year or so, I've been working at playing through an
old DOS game which Michael reviewed in Issue 1 of Audyssey. I've not
come anywhere close to beating it, and don't want to really. I've yet
to really make it much of anywhere--true, I've gotten fairly rich and
found a few rather amazing places, but haven't yet found any real
direction. I don't mind this in the least. One thing I love about this
game, which I haven't found anywhere else, is a sense of a world with
unlimited places to explore. There is this odd sense that if I just
keep going in a direction somewhere I'll find something interesting,
or run into a new town, or a new inn, or a new place where I can
appreciate the depth of detail that's offered here. I've never before
encountered a sense like the following: When the
character in Fallthru travels from town to town over roads, it seems
like he's really traveling somewhere. I get this odd sense that, wow,
that really did take three days! (That's game time, of course.) Since
I haven't really scratched the surface of this game yet, I have to
wonder what it'll be like if I keep going. I know this game isn't for
everyone. It's tedious and hard to get anywhere sometimes because
you're constantly trying to stay alive. There are so many places to go
that it is hard to choose. I find myself setting out long term goals
for spots I want to see and realizing, a few days and some food later,
that I really should've reconsidered. No other game has quite given me
this feeling. I'm just curious, therefore, if anybody on this list
still plays the game? If so, does it stay this engrossing all the way
through? No, don't answer that. I want to find out for myself. All
 the best, Zack.

If you're like me (and the rest of the world right now), you have
 discovered
the incredible challenge, fun, and intellectual stimulation of the Sarah
game. Like myself, I am sure you've stumbled on the puzzles you can't
 solve
no matter how hard you try. Or maybe you've been frustrated by the
 puzzles
 that seem to
 take a lifetime to solve.

These little puzzles can stump even the smartest of people. Quite
 frankly,
 I
was addicted to solving Sarah but kept getting stuck near the end.

Recently, I have discovered a method (more than one actually) that has
enabled me to solve puzzles in minutes. And when you're addicted to
 solving
 these
 things, it really helps.

I have discovered methods which make me a master and I am revealing them
 all
now in a walk through guide for you. Every possible thing you will need
 to
know about Sarah has been detailed. I have revealed methods for the
 beginner
and the expert. No Sarah enthusiast should continue without knowing these
 tricks!!!

 Here's just a small taste of what I will teach you;

. Learn what to do when you get stuck
. Learn Where to start each puzzle
 . Complete step-by-step methods
. Find out what to do when your solution does not match
. How to increase solving speed
. Understand the logic behind Sarah
. How to complete the last few chapters (no more guessing!!)
. How to solve the 7 potion puzzle (know where to start)
. Solve the game in Easy, Medium, even in the hard dificulty level.

A Beginner Sarah Player Can Quickly Become An Expert And Solve All
Puzzles...Even If You've Never Tried Before!!

If you're one of those people who are lost, wondering where this game
 came
from then its time for you to learn! Not only can I teach you how to
play, but also how to master Sarah and how to show up all your friends!!
 If
you're new the the world of Sarah and unsure how to start the game, don't
worry! I have laid out for you step-by-step the best way to begin
 solving.
Every last detail has been included to take YOU from a beginner to a
 master!

Stop Painting Yourself Into A Corner And Get To The Solution
 Faster...Even
 On The most difficult Puzzles!!

Even the best of the best get stuck from time to time, and I know how
frustrating it can be. I've had many people ask me about puzzles in the
 past
where they have agonized and gone in circles BUT now I have shown them
 the
tricks to get to the solution faster. You can easily become an Ultimate
Master of Sarah (just like me).
I have all the tips you need to increase your solving speed to complete
 any
 puzzle within minutes!!
It cost only $19.95 US until publication date, when the price decreases
 to
 $0.
It will be included in the Sarah-Patch4.exe and will be published some
 time
 in August 2007.

this amazing document will astound you in its ease of solving the puzzles
and in the quickness you can finish the game.

 smiles,
 Phil

I've read the piece about fluffy in the hp books and it is so that the
 fire
lighting charm destroys the plant so that I have managed.
But now I'm really stuck guys. I've read the whole piece about the
 chamber
of puzzles. First of all harry and his friends gets into a chamber where
they catch a key on wings. I didn't find such a thing in the sarah game.
Next they plays chess and then they come into a passage where they drink
 wine to escape the flames.
Now in the sarah game I haven't find any place having something to do with
chess. I can here female and male voices saying something like wine, but
 my
x key tells me absolutely nothing. The only thing shift+d tells me is
 frog.
And yes I can hear a frog croaking. But I suppose like harry and his
friends did, sarah have to drink wine out of the little bottle to escape
 the
flames. Well first of all I don't hear any flames and I've stood in front
 of
one of the voices saying wine and tried every single possibility in the
game, nothing happens. No spell, no password, no pressing enter, nothing.
How do I drink the wine? How do I exit the chamber of puzzles. The only
 way
I can find is to aparate. Strange enough when I'm near to the devil snare
plant, shift+d tells me that the trap door and plant is so many feet ahead
of me but my x key only says devil snare plant, not trap door.
At one stage while in the chamber of puzzles I all of a sudden got in to
the honey duke sweet shop, I don't know how I got there.
Phil, can you please please do something about the bathrooms in a future
patch. If I'm in a bathroom I can't get out. I only can find the doors to
the toilets within the bathroom. Once I'm in a girls or boys bathroom I
can't find the way out. I try to listen for the snoring but there is no
 way
 I can find the exit.

 Hi.

Recently on the audio games.net forums, a couple of members have been
discussing cracks and such. However with this latest topic I think things
are going slightly far. In light of the recent discussion about pyracy,
 I'm
reporting it here, - because I'm not precisely sure whome to contact
 relating to shades of doom.

 Please see:

I'm sorry for having to go through these sorts of things, but given the
 talk
about pyracy, I thought it was probably better than leaving the issue.
 Also,
as I said, this isn't this person's first discussion of pyracy (as che
 martin unfortunately noticed).

 Sorry again.

 all the best,

 Dark.

Actually, technically Voldemort isn't even entirely human anymore thanks
 to
the mutilation of his soul. And he never actually became a Hogwats
 teacher.
He tried to but was turned way, first by Armando Dippet and later by
Dumbledore. So it's not known whether or not he was actually able to
 create
a Horcrux using an object from all four of the Hogwarts founders.
 Hufflepuff
and Slytherin we know he found, but as to Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, it's
 still unclear.

 Hi Nicol,

There is a type of boss fight in the Sara game, which is Sarah against
 the
 2 bludgers.
But I can imagine the young voldemort deciding that the diary might not
 do
and having him putting a bit of himself in something in the castle that
 comes alive.
Mix the way the chess pieces were animated with the way the portraits
 talk
and think and you might have a close representation of a boss.
The only thing this robot voldemort could not do is cast spells.
Or how about if voldemort took over the brain of a House-Elf?
I think I will wait until book seven is released to speculate on what
 else
is in the castle to find.

The problem is that, even joined together as a unified community the blind
gaming community in particular is probably not likely to be able to come
 up
with the kind of money that most developers would ask for. The only sure
 way
to persuade them is to educate them, and there is a certain amount of
emotional apeal involved in that. I agree. Let's let the developer find
 out
how we feels when he's just recovered from a life-altering injury and
 suddenly finds he can't see.

I'll throw my two cents in.

Emotional appeals just won't work. For developers, for companies, it's
 all
about the money, about the glitz, the gloss, the numbers. They won't
 write
games for niche markets, and since the needs of the disabled community
 are
scattered, with different accommodations required for blind, deaf, and
paraplegic users, they won't be able to round us up into a significant
enough market to make their corporate sponsors care.

Developing to targeted audiences also does take time, not just in coding,
but in testing as well. We have to make that worthwhile, and an
 emotional
appeal won't do that. To suggest that it will come easily trivializes
 the
 programming effort involved.

Besides, developers reading that article might fleetingly be affected by
 the
prose, but they'll forget it tomorrow. Most of us, whoever we are, don't
think about what could happen tomorrow. We don't dwell on the
 possibilities
that were outlined. We keep going until it happens, and then we try to
cope. That's just the human way.

 Just my two cents.

 Lora

I am not impressed by the article. It does appeal on emotional level
and that is not what concerns the developers. It is simply cold, hard,
 cash.
We need to present our case for more accessible games from that
perspective.
That will be the only way to get their attention.

 Hi all,
I'm seeing a lot of posts on this list about possible bugs and problems
with sarah, as well as questions that can easily be answered by doing
 the following.
Get ahold of the nearest lending library, just a regular town library is
fine. Ask them if they're willing to order in the Harry Potter
books on tape for you The ones read by Jim Dale or Stephen Fry are both
the full book, you don't miss anything.. Read those books, all 6 of
them if you can. Since the Sarah game is based on the Harry Potter
series, as it says plainly on pcs games, people should probably have
read those books. To give you an example: I just saw a message about a
 dementor.
 s
 p
 o
 i
 l
 e
 r
just in case. If it comes out of a cabinet, it's not actually a
dementor. It's something mentioned in the third book, a bogart. Harry,
and obviously Sarah, have a fear of dementors, allowing the creature to
turn into one. Dementors are much harder to get rid of, being the real
thing, and the person would've known this had they read the books. So
 please, do so.

I'm not trying to be rude, offend anyone or lay blame or anything. I'm
just pointing out that the game will go so much easier for you if you
get ahold of the harry potter books. I'm sure bookshare has them, or
whatever braille or accessible material library you have in your
 country.

If anyone wishes to comment on my rudeness, lack of respect, stupid
message or whatever, please take it offlist so that I can easily pipe it
  into /dev/nul

 Thanks
 Brandon

Re: [Audyssey] a huge, huge bug in sarah!!!

Hi Nicol, The difference between the dementor on the easy and hard
difficulties is after you scare him away, if you re-open the cavanet he will
come back. same is the hard level, but you get to see the dementor in the
basement, which is before opening the cavanet. What actually is happening,
is when you open up the cavinet, the dementor is teleported into the

 Hi phil
There's a huge, huge, huge bug in sarah that must be squashed! The
dementor is in the staffroom and he's not suppose to show up in easy and
 standard difficulty.
 Begin quote
 ++11.2  Dementors
Watch out for them because they can take all your magical energy away with
 a
kiss! The Patronus Charm will chase one away and it will not come back,
 at
least on the current floor of the castle.
You can detect them by their long, slow, rattling breaths.
By a wonderful quirk of fate, they do not show up when playing on the easy
 or standard difficulty settings.
 End quote
So phil's intention is that the dementor only shows up in the hard
difficulty so there's definitely a bug.

and then the game sort of locks up. Are they only supposed to work when
creatures are around? Also, I found a vanishing cabinet in a classroom and

wait and listen to Kelly's report, then fill in anything he may have
 missed.
He did a good review of Pacman Talks when it came out but he did skip
 going
into the dungeon where the bonus object was waiting.
 smiles,
 Phil

Hello all, this goes to you Phil. I have studio equipments and
 profeshinal
microphones that I will get connected to my laptop, and since I have the
skills to do demos for ACB Radio, I'd be willam to do a Main Menu review
of Sarah And The Castle Of Witchcraft and wizardly, although I think
Kelly is, or might be doing it.

 Hi Phil,
I for one say put the high scores list back in. I am rather suprised
 you took it out.

 Phil Vlasak wrote:

At the point you hit the third initial the game reloads the level which

I used to have the high score list pop up but people did not want this
 but
it seems that taking it out may have caused an extra long pause.
I will see what I can do.

 Hi phil.
When I try to quit I get to the score enter name thing, I enter my name,
 and then I hit enter.
At which point the game locks and I have to end the task.
Is this a bug or something?

Re: [Audyssey] USA Games and SAPI support?

I thought Hal didn't have a Allen voice? I thought it just had Andy, Ben,

 Hello Tom.

currently, I'm being forced to use Ms sam in games. Even though I use the
orphius voice Alan with Hal, for some odd reason I have severe trouble
trying to make any alterations to Sapi, - either using the Orphius
 Sapi
runtime libraries, or trying to install the other Ms voices (though I am
looking into buying Realspeak Daniel soon, which will hopefully work).

The point is that at the moment, I'm not experiencing the best in synth
voice quality when it comes to games.

I find though, i can generally cope with Ms Sam as long as the information
I'm getting is of a fairly general nature, such as reading numbers or
 other
 status information.

I do find however, that a game (or indeed a text), loses a lot of it's
atmospheric content when dialogue or other speeches requiring emotion or
characterization are read in an emotionless synthetic voice, and
 obviously
the worse the voice, the worse the problem, though for in game character
speech, even something like Realspeak would be inadequate Imho.

I know that Phil got Sarah voice acted just for this reason.

To give an example, I have no problem with most of the Sapi used in Lone
wolf, even with ms Sam, however in the next version it might improve
the atmosphere of the game considerably if a few phrases, supposedly
 spoken
by the sub's crew, were actually recorded in Wav. these could include
torpedo's away! she's hit! (obviously having the crew speak the names
 of
enemy craft wouldn't be practical), and the various damage reports.

I can appreciate the difficulties in recording many wavs, and also that
would make things more difficult for people with slower internet
 connections
to download the game, however on the other hand, I do feel that the use of
synth voices for characterization in games can be extremely harmful to the
game' atmosphere, and (where applicable), how believeable those characters
 are.

so for Monti, I'd personally go for having your health, score, current
 level
and other status info spoken buy Sapi, but if ever panama Jo (or whoever
we've got starring in the game at the moment), has to do any talking, have
it recorded by a real live voice actor.

I will admit, as somebody who does fairly major stuff on stage, I am
probably fairly exacting as far as the acting side of gaming goes.

Btw, If the character's in the game are robots, as in Galaxy ranger, I
 think
a synth voice can actually fit in rather well. It's actually been done in
various films and Tv series I think, Tron, Space above and beyond and war
 games for example.

Well that's my thoughts on the subject, though everyone else's might be
 different.

 All the best

 Dark.

I haven't been reading the games list because I've been sooo busy with
other
things, but today I read some of the messages, and am I understanding it
right that Sarah has been released? I went to www.pcsgames.net and saw
something about it, but I couldn't find any info on where to download it,
 or
how to purchase it. I'd really love to buy this game if it is indeed been
released so any info would be appreciated.

 Hi Nicol,
I just finished that level at Halloween last year and wanted to show
 people
 what was to come.
I will be creating another sneak preview soon but probably not on the demo
level because anyone can download the game and try that out themselves.

Its sarah and the castle of witchcraft and wizardry developed by phil
 vlaseck from pcs games.
The game has not yet been released. Phil put up a file on his site long
 ago,
it was a sneek preview of the divination classroom on floor7.
He will let everyone know when the game is available.
Hay phil btw why did you choose the divination classroom for the sneek
preview? It would be interesting if you could do a sneek preview of
 sarah
on the ground floor scaring a ghost.
 Just my thought.
 sincerely
