Jason, unfortunately this does mean it's incompatible. It's
incompatible with windows 7 x64 and above, due to how the game was
compiled. My advice would be to try it on a windows xp virtual

Blindfold Air Hockey is an fully accessible audio game that's similar
to the

arcade game Air Hockey.

In Blindfold Air Hockey, you have a mallet or paddle, and there's a
puck on
the playing table. To start the game, hit the puck swiping your
finger. The

puck heads towards your opponent's goal, where he knocks it back to you,
bouncing off of the walls as it gets closer to your goal. You block his
shot, and fire the puck back at his goal. The first player to score 7
goals

wins the game.

Using head phones or ear buds, you hear the puck heading towards you,
and
you control your mallet by moving your finger left and right. When
the puck
is close enough, you'll hear a ding sound, and you can swipe the puck
aim at

your opponent's goal.

Blindfold Air Hockey comes with a tutorial level, and 16 different
opponents

- varying from beginner to expert.

Blindfold Air Hockey was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed
Blindfold Breakout and Blindfold Bowling.

The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. To get more
coins, you
can listen to advertising videos, or purchase coins as an in-app
upgrade.

Re: [Audyssey] audio rain maker.

I think this audio rain making game should have tools such as making
your own distructive storm, and then once you have made your storm such
as a super typhoon then you can here it how it will distoy towns and
cities, or also get to chase your own simulation that would be cool if
you can create multiple storms to cause havoc in a city and the object
of the game you will have to get all of the people evacuated before the
storm hits.

hey that sound awesome either make a game where you can create a

that a distructive storm is coming and get them to safety before that

Re: [Audyssey] Entombed 2 Windows and Mac Test Clients

2015-04-30 Thread Jason Allen
Hello,

Yes, that's right. Entombed 2 is completely separate from Entombed 1.
Separate tech and completely re-written from the ground up. As for pricing,
I'm not sure yet. I think it will be similar to Entombed 1's pricing.

It's called the Skeleton Tower and you indeed do go up, but not in the
alpha demo. The story and other additions I'll let you know later. I don't
want to over-promise and under-deliver.

It will be similar scope to Entombed. Possibly larger. Nearly all the game
code is written in Lua and can easily be modified to make new additions and
changes. The core of the game is written in C# and using Unity for
cross-platform compiling.

Sorry to hear it's not working on your Mac. I'm developing it on an iMac
with Yosemite. I'd expect it to work on nearly any Mac, but it's still
early. I might be able to improve the compatibility.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] Entombed 2 Windows and Mac Test Clients

2015-04-21 Thread Jason Allen
Hello everyone,

I thought I'd post here for feedback on the Windows and Mac test versions
for Entombed 2. These test versions have no gameplay, but if they run on
your computer, then the full game should also.

There isn't much to do other than walk around an empty dungeon. If you're
keen on trying it out, please let me know how it runs.

Windows version: http://endpermian.com/e2/Entombed2Setup.msi

Mac version: http://endpermian.com/e2/Entombed2MacOS.zip

The Windows version works with

   - JAWS
   - Window-Eyes
   - NVDA
   - SuperNova
   - System Access
   - ZoomText

and SAPI.

The Mac version will use whatever your default system voice is.

To move around and select menu options use the arrow keys or W,S,A,D. You
can increase and decrease the voice rate by using the + and - keys. This
works for Mac and SAPI on windows.

Thanks!

  Hi Jason,
I worked on Ten Pin Alley with Draconis. It is a Windows based bowling
 game that is totally accessible.
The concept is simple. Your screen is the width of the bowling alley from
left to right. Instead of aiming your ball to the pin, the ball scans from
the left gutter to the right gutter and back again. As it passes the
position of a pin at the other end of the alley, it makes three click
sounds, at the exact position of the pin representing the left side of the
pin, the center of the pin and the right side of the pin.
You bowl by hitting the space bar which sends the ball down the alley and
if you timed it right, it knocks over pins.
The more pins you knock over the more you hear pins knocked over, as the
game has the sounds of from 0 to 10 pins knocked over in sound files.
You then get a verbal report as to what pins are left standing, and only
those pins make the three clicks as you scan the alley.

You can hear an audio demo of the game at
 http://dracoent.com/Windows/TenPinAlley

that way. The only one I think might be doable is Galaxy Bowling. It's a
bowling game with many modes and variations. You'd need some way to know
where any remaining pins are and what your score is. Are there any existing
bowling accessible bowling games? How did they manage it?

Thank you,
Jason

 Hi Josh,

Simple answer is no. Dos screen readers and other 16-bit applications
will not run on modern Windows platforms. I've tried running them in
Dosbox with a Dectalk Express and got absolutely nowhere with them. So
I don't think running a Dos screen reader on modern Windows is really
 possible.

The only thing I can think of, and I have thought of this for a while
now, is embedding a screen reader into Dosbox itself. That way the
screen reader can use Sapi and other text to speech services native to
the platform while performing screen reading tasks. By making the
screen reader an integrated part of Dosbox it would save the end user
all the trouble of trying to install some old screen reader into
Dosbox and then still require a hardware synth or similar device to
 run it.

 Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] audio games popularity

2014-12-18 Thread Jason Allen
Hello,

In regards to Entombed - I always wanted to make it modable, but the
architecture would not allow it. It would be easier to re-write the entire
game. Although Entombed didn't earn a lot compared to the effort (2 years
or so of development), I think I could make a similarly scoped game today
faster due to my experience. It's always been my intention to create a
sequel, and I've made a start on the foundation. The idea is to make it as
modifyable as possible. All aspects of the game could be changed by the
community. I think the game would take on a life of its own then and last
longer than Entombed has.

When you talk about developers leaving the community, I'm not one of them.
I'm just a very quiet lurker and I still have a keen interest in making
games. The biggest problem I have now is lack of resources. I have a few
popular mobile games and they demand a lot of time and effort.

Cheers!

 Hi Valiant,

That is true. The people who have the skills to make really high
quality audio games don't stay around long because if they have the
skills to make high quality audio games they probably have the skills
required to get a decent paying job in that field. Therefore making
games for free or even commercially for the blind isn't in their long
term best interests. We have seen this happen several times just over
 the last decade or so.

Basically, it comes down to two things time and money. If there isn't
enough money in making audio games for the blind the person who has
the skills isn't going to take the time. Not when he or she can spend
that same amount of time working for a mainstream company and make
lots more money doing it. The little money made off of audio games
isn't really enough to pay for the developer's time, and therefore it
often comes down to doing it for the enjoyment of it.

 Cheers!

The people who are really going nuts and creating amazing games with
lots of mechanics, the ones who actually could take the community beyond
what it knows, are creating a nice game or 3, then leaving the audio
gaming community. Why is this? My guess would be because they have the
skills they need to get a real paying job. I like what I'm working on,
but if someone saw that and said oh wow I like your skillset, you should
think about joining our company. Since you know this much it is obvious
you can learn code. We'll train you to use our own language and you can
write something we need done. If something like that happened to me, I
would be hard pressed not to just drop the game I'm working on. Because
while it is going to be a paid game, I don't look for it to make
anywhere near enough money to pay for my time. I'm doing it for fun, the
ability to play the game myself, the attention in the community, and
what money I can get out of it.

But we are often jobless, have the idea to make games and sell them for
a little cash to hopefully help mom and dad pay our bills, or what have
you, and then because we are actually achieving these things, we then
just naturally have some of what it takes to actually have a job, if I'm
making any sense? I didn't do nearly as good a job explaining as I meant.

Basically the very fact that we might have a programmer in our community
who can make great audiogames pretty much by definition means we have
someone who won't be staying, at least not full time by any means.

Hello everyone the game now works in xp and windows 7 thanks Coro for
fixing the bugs in the game when you first load it up it tells you are
running a trial, then it asks about the screen if you want it in black
or white mode you tell what preference you want your screen then it asks
you if you are running sound from a program I said yes then the game
loads and I am able to go threw the options by hitting my up and down
arrow keys and the game works good it's a start I hope in the future
sounds can be updated and the game can run allot faster and give reports
and dynamic changes allot faster then it does now, however good job Coro
and it's a great start on how this game is created I like how the
rosters are up to date or they can be updated and the language files are
up to date or the program retrieves all the updates so hope this game
can get better and it announces the team names correctly since the voice
sometimes sound like it announces the team names in broken English
otherwise it's a good game.

ask is the sound from a program I told it yes at first and then the
second time I said no so then it asked me what sapi 5 voice I wanted to
use I chose sam because that is the standard sapi5 voice so I hit enter
for ok on that choice, and then it tells me when the game starts I can
press the shift key and then when I press enter to start the game that's

Re: [Audyssey] Temporal. Aprone's time traveling strategy game.

2011-06-11 Thread jason
Hey that game sounds pretty good however yeah you don't want to create
any paradoxes.

On 6/11/2011 12:33 PM, Jeremy Kaldobsky wrote:

Hey guys, earlier this week I started working on a little game idea that popped
in to my head at work. To clarify, this is Not! the game I've been developing
with Locutus that will be using head tracking technology. As you all know by
now, I can't keep myself from branching out into other ideas, so I present to
you, yet another side project. Temporal.

The current status of the game is pretty rough. I don't even have any sounds
in it, except for screen reader dialog. The reason I'm posting this game so
early, is because I need to get people's reactions to the game's concept. As
far as I know, no other audio games work like this one, so I don't want to
invest too much time into it until I know people don't hate it, haha!

In Temporal, you awaken in a government facility deep underground. You don't
know how long they have been studying you, but you have been kept in a drug
induced, unconscious state, to prevent you from escaping. Through some type of
mistake, you have awaken. Keeping you unconscious was this facility's first
line of defense against the most powerful human ever to walk the earth. you.
Using your powers, to jump forward and backward through time, you must escape
the lab they have been keeping you in. This game requires you to keep careful
track of what you have already done, as well as planning ahead for what you
intend to still do. Traveling through time means you will share the
environment with all other instances of yourself who were present at that time.
Confusing? If you jump back in time, you may run through a room where a past
version of yourself is busy attacking the guards. When you hold open a door
now, later you will travel back in time
to this point in order to run through it! With everything going on, you must
always be careful not to run into any past versions of yourself, or you will
destroy the continuity of events and lose the game.

I only have 1 mission done, but it should be enough to give you all a good idea
of how the game is played. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Shane,
I do want to convert some of my DOS games to Windows.
Some of them I have already done, and others I would not want to do as
others have done similar games.
Here is a list of the PCS DOS games and what I plan to do with them:
Games I will not convert as there are games like them for windows made by
others:
p c s space invaders,
P c s duck hunt,
p c s car racing circuit
monopoly
any night football
world series baseball special edition,
red dragon kick boxing challenge
a 2 z key search
mind puzzles
haze maze
mobius mountain math game.

Games I have already converted to Windows:
panzers in north africa, sort of like Tank Commander.
  Pacman Talks,
tenpin bowling

Games we sold that were designed by others:
Rainy day games, solitaire, mine buster, and triple yahtzee.
star trek the battle begins.
Lone Wolf
Produced by David Greenwood.
card club , hearts, norwegian whist, widow whist, and crazy eights.
Produced by Ivan G. Roelofs.

Games I am planning on converting to Windows:
cops including shooting range
breakout
Snipe hunt
arthur's quest
fox and hounds

Re: [Audyssey] Possible WWE Roster

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Possible WWE Roster

Hi Jim,

Well, you are right about that. A lot of the wrestlers like any other
star got passed around quite a lot. Once their contract was up they
generally took a walk to another federation or wrestling alliance and
got a job. Especially, if they were a big name star, and wanted a
better contract. As you know in the 1990's the WCW managed to grab up
most of the big name super stars from the WWF such as Randy Savage,
Hulk Hogan, Sensational Sharri, Ricky Steamboat, etc. True they
hchanged their names a bit like Hogan became Holliwood Hogan,
Sensational Sherri became Sister Sherri, etc but it was the same
people and they managed to draw a lot of attention away from the WWF.
I know people here talk about Stone Cold Steve Auston etc but the
truth is during that time frame I didn't watch the WWF much. I was
watching WCW simply because that's where all my favorite stars went.
Not to say the WWF was bad, but it lost its apeal with mostly new
stars I didn't know as well.

Anyway, I agree. I really hate it when they mention a new move I don't
know what it looks like. Usually, it is probably something we already
know with a new name. For instance, the Undertaker's finisher is the
Tombstone. All that really is a new name for a piledriver. Nothing
special about that except for the name. So I would imagine the new
moves like the Spear, RKO, etc are probably something I already know
with a nice new name on it.

Cheers!

 Hi Thomas,

Yeah, I remember the feud and match between Jesse the Body and Hulk Hogan.
I was not positive about the time frame though. I have been watching
wrestling since like the mid sixties. So I can not always keep the times
and even companies perfectly straight. Especially since so many of the
wrestlers switched or even went back and fourth between companies. I do
remember that in the early eighties or maybe late seventies when we first
got cable, on the USA network I would watch 3 hour shows that were like
pay
per view quality shows. And of course for years I would listen to pay per
view shows in S vision. That is until they moved all of those channels to
 above 100.

I still liked GLOW when I had sight the best.

 Oh the memories.

Now I don't even have anyone that can tell me what the new moves such as
the
RKO are like. I bet that some of them are just old moves with new names.

I can't believe that we forgot Sergeant Slaughter. The cobra clutch is a
 great sleeper hold.

I'd love to, but I'm worried about my vertical hold.

Same here I usually use goal line or end run at times at times I do use
the blitz defense as well most of the time ist's zone known as galine

Hi Hayden,

Yeah my NFL game needs an entire playbook of plays, but there is no

yards. But if it is third down and they need more than a dozen yards
the short pass defense will almost always get it done. The blitz can
work great or be a disaster.

It would be very cool if I could actually write a football game that
was called the way that Jim Donivan calls the Cleveland Browns games.
You know how each team is lined up, who is in motion etc. And of
course with the entire playbook thing. And then on another thread, I
sure would love to be able to write a Roller coaster Tycoon sim. But
I do play the defense on a hunch with my knowledge of the game of
football.

[Audyssey] Any Night Football and World Series Baseball

2011-04-18 Thread jason
I think the game that had 23 plays for offense and lots of plays for
defense was the Any Night Football game, I am surprised that no one has
tried to convert that dos game to windows version even though it didn't
have many sounds at the time it was clear cut at that point time and it
was a good game even Jim Kitchen's dos football game was good for that
time in Dos. I am also surprised that World series baseball didn't go
to windows either I know there is stratomatic games out there however I
don't like playing games with flash, it's too bad that Stratomatic
games, couldn't makea client like RSGames and Quentancy where everyone
could play on a server and you would just have to download the client to
play them just like Quentancy playroom and RSGames.

Basically, as it stands now USA Blackjack is just a text-based game. I
was wondering if you guys want me to do something like what Jim
Kitchen did by adding sounds such as shuffling cards, dealing cards,
intro music, etc. It would be fairly easy to do using something like
FMOD Ex which is Mac, Linux, and Windows compatible. Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Hello folks. I've just released my first audio game via the BGT
toolkit. If you remember that shooting range from Grizzly gulch, that
is what this is. this has a few differences, but it's basically the
same. No install needed, just download, unzip, and run the
shootingRange.exe file. I hope you like it. Check out the read Me

Re: [Audyssey] games we'd like to play: hospital madness

wow sounds like a good idea almost like Kingdom Hospital.

On 3/6/2011 6:13 PM, NIcol wrote:

all kinds of strange tests.
Your parents had to put you on the train as the hospital is 1000 km from

This game's objection is to escape out of the 12 floor hospital before a
nurse or sister can grab you and put you back in the bed where the tests
aught to be done.
The game gives you 3 lives, although you are not actually killed but just
captured for tests.
Each time you are captured you will hear some of the tests being done on you
and then lose a life or chance in the game.
this game will immerse you into a world of fast movement and suspense.
You use 3d game movement to run around the hospital building, exploring
branching passages.
While running up and down staircases, you will sometimes hear your character
giving a panic gelp.
If you do not press the enter key in time, your character will slip and fall
on the stairs, giving the hospital personnel time to catch up.
Hint: on the underground floors they won't get you easily as this is where
all the admin staff works and they are not aware of your whereabouts.
You don't need a shaft to get to the underground floors.
You just take the stairs from a floor above the ground to an underground
floor .Occasionally you will find quiet offices to hide in on the floors
above the ground.
But you only have a little amount of time to hide before the personnel
decides to visit the office you're hiding in.
You have to find an exit, but there's 4 of them!
They're not on the ground floor.
The other 3 will just lead you into a small garden where the hospital
personnel will easily find you.
Don't think that you can actually use this as a hiding place!
There is only 1 exit that will let you escape.
Listen for a very soft sound clip of somebody reporting news on tv.
If you reach this exit, an alarm goes off letting the personnel know
you are about to escape.
The other exits also have soft sound clips of people doing tv shows, but
you have to carefully listen for the exit with the news reporting clip.
Once you take the exit, you must run until you encounter a tv.
The tv will make that static electricity sound like when a tv is turned off
or on. Once you are 1 feet away from the tv, you will teleport back to
home. Now your parents must again make arrangements to put you on the
train to go to the hospital.
They're not happy about you escaping!
Make life hard for them next time by playing this game again.

Ok I have to agree with what is said here. for example the Sarah game
is just a game all the stuff is fiction especially Harry Potter they use
mechanical machines to produce the sound affects and pictures what
occurs in those movies. So I don't see any harm on what games are
created on this list.

On 2/28/2011 7:43 AM, Clement Chou wrote:

Hi Nicol.

What you're basically saying here, to me, is that people should only
consider Jehova witnesses when making games. You and only you. Calling
others without love for goodness because they create games with
violence and supernatural aspects to them is very, very judgmental.
Just because one small bunch of people does not like arcade games that
have violence and shooting, you guys are allowed to call people who
make games like that basically heartless.

Video games have always had some degree of violence to them. Mario
brothers is a good example of... uh, supernatural, I think. Sure the
violence is cartoonish, but violence is violence. So your logic is
very, very flawed.

I am a Christian. I am not the type to preach constantly, but I point
you to the verse in the bible that says judge not, lest ye be
judged. That's a verse that always rang true for me, but there are
times when I judge, despite that. And now is one of them. I think
certain Christian groups need to wake up and realize that the world
does not, and will not, bend to your ways. Simply because you believe
that violent games are a form of delving into the things of Satan does
not mean everyone else believes it. People don't play violent games
because they love violence. I play Street Fighter for the work it does
for my brain, the competition when I play with friends, and to build
skills of keeping track of things as well as reflexes. That is the
same reason I love Shades of Doom, Blast Chamber's shooting aspects,
and Mota. Tom has done a more than exellent job with Mota... and it
saddens me to see it put down, simply because it does not agree with
someone's spiritual beliefs.

Although I am a Christian, I feel the need to say that there are way
too many Christians in this world who think all too highly of
themselves. The majority of us tend to think that the world should all
believe in God, and do anything to enforce that view. Christians have
always preached for peace and no violence... yet what happened during
the crusades? People need to realize that it's the majority in the
world that decides things, and unfortunately, there's other religions
in the world... not just Christianity! Shocker, eh?

I don't like to talk about these things much... I'd rather save my
energy for something else more productive. There's more that I could
say, but I think I've pointed out most of what has to be pointed out.
Am I a believer in God? Yes. Do I believe 100% of everything I hear
from the bible? Not always. Why? Because there are many, many
contradictory things in there and frankly, following the basic morals
of peace and love in the bible are enough for me. I sing and play
Christian worship music, I have Christian friends and I pray on a
daily basis. But I would not go so far as to put down a developer or
anyone else who did something they felt satisfied their target
audience, no matter what my beliefs.

I'll probably come back and say more later. But Nicol, I am going to
leave you and all other christians who might have the same view on
this list with a question. And I urge you to be careful how you answer
this one.

I am currently starting to practice a martial art. It is an art known
as Iaido, and consists of sword techniques used to dispatch an
opponent at the same time you draw the sword, flicking the blood off
the blade and resheathing. I have been going at it for 2 months, and
the fact that it's an art that was once used as a method of killing
does not bother me in the least. Does that make me in any way evil or
unloving? Especially since the philosophy behind the art is never
using it unless you have to, and the teachings of the art are centered
around doing things with full commitment, treating others equally and
acting with honor? Answer that question for me, if you will. Just
something to think about. Anyone else is welcome to ask questions
about the art... though as that is somewhat off-topic, if you are
curious, please email offlist.

Clement.

Re: [Audyssey] my frustration with the blind gaming comunity.

2011-02-08 Thread jason
I have to say we should be open to all ideas of gaming, even though
allot of people like audio games, but we also have to focus on video
gaming as well, otherwise if we don't focus on these issues, neither the
WII nor the sonie Playstation or any gaming systems in this matter will
ever become accessible do to lack of interests. Remember folks if we
want video games or gaming systems to become accessible, since the
market only focuses on the majority, then we as a community have to push
and strive for our goals of doing this to get our voices heard. I enjoy
the sonie play station especially for the football and baseball games
since they have lots of neat audio gaming sounds and they make you feel
that you are at the stadium and playing the real game. I also like Call
of Duty 5 however since it isn't accessible I have to have some one with
sighted assistance tell me all the time which way to move and help find
the weapons, wouldn't it be nice people if one day we can have that
ability ourselves to shoot the guns, pick our own weapons score on our
own with out sighted assistance, just sit back and think about it. Now
however I am not a game developer, I just test software or games and
report bugs if I think if there are any, however there are games out
here that may not be an interest to me. So anyway NCAA football and
Madden NFL almost sound like Jim Kitchen's NFL game so the EA baseball
sounds like Jim Kitchen's baseball game and call Duty 5 has the same
realistic sounds of Tank commander so there it is folks it is up to you
as individuals on how you approach gaming and the gaming industry.

[Audyssey] racing game

2011-01-19 Thread jason
Hey I know 3d volosity is out, I was wondering that would be cool if we
had a racing feature with dog fighting and racing airplanesand fighter
jets, instead of cars how about we race other planes or jets just like
top speed but an airplane racing game that would be cool if you can add
a racing feature in 3d volosity, then you can get more practice flying
and landing.

[Audyssey] Another suggestion

2011-01-19 Thread jason
In 3d Volosity I was wondering to make landing easier can we have the
beacon at the center when we power the plane to land, I think it would
be easier this way when you about to jump in Jim kitchen's Homer on a
Harley racing game you can line yourself up and get the beeping sound in
the center so you can make an accurate jump over the buses, I figure
this can apply to the planes when we are landing them.

Writing sentences will make your posts easier to read, and thus people

Appologies if this is rude, I'm not intending it as a major cryticism,
certainly neither myself nor anyone else on this list would
expect everyone to write in precisely correct queen's English (and I'd
fail horribly there for a start!), but just a bit of basic structure

I'm really sorry if this comes across as overly pedantic or rude, it
certainly wasn't intended to be so.

Re: [Audyssey] Some Extremely Sad News

2010-12-19 Thread jason
Hello Thomas sorry about your step sister just prayed for you and family
and I hope you have a good Christmas and a happy new year, know this
that you will see her again in Heaven and God is with her.

On 12/19/2010 1:12 PM, Thomas Ward wrote:

Dear list,

I regret to inform you that there has been a very very tragic death in
my family this weekend. Last night my mom called me and told me that
my oldest step sister died under extremely tragic circomstances. At
this point in time the police are ruling it out is a suicide. To say
that this comes as a shocking suprise for the family and is very sad
is an understatement.

Although, my step sister and I were never close I still feel sad and
extremely disappointed in how she chose to end her life. I feel
extremely sorry for my neace who will be cellibrating this and every
other Christmas without her mother. I also feel deeply sorry for my
step father who lost a daughter, and my surviving step sisters who
lost one of their sisters. For them Christmas will never ever be the
same. For those of you who have faith in a religious background please
pray for them in this time of morning and grief. Also pray for my step
sister that perhaps she can find happiness in death that she never
could in this life time. Moreover, never forget to tell your closest
ffriends, family, and other loved ones that you love them. Remember
that there is nothing more precious than life, and that no matter how
bad life gets at times that taking your own life without a good cause
is the greatest tragity of all.

Finally, I wish to leave you with something that I learned from this
experience. Remember to forgive those who have wronged you, and try to
make, if possible, peace with everyone that you can. Especially, those
who are your family and friends. Nothing is more tragic than what
happened in my sisters' case.

I'm not going to get into details and specifics, but one thing I can
say is that my oldest sister was troubled. In her death she left
behind a lot of unsettled arguments with my step father, my younger
step sisters, her grandparents, and things were said in the heat of
the moment to each other that can never be taken back or settled in
this life time. My youngest step sister, for example, vowed never to
see my oldest step sister again in this life time, and now, of course,
she never will. My youngest step sister has to live with the guilt of
allowing her personal feelings get in the way of making peace with her
sister when she could have. Moreover, she now realises she wasn't
there for her sister when she went over the emotional brink and took
her own life when she needed her family, her loved ones, more than
ever.

So the lesson I want to pass on to each and every single one of you is
don't let your anger, your personal differences, etc go so far that
you have to live each and every day of your life regretting the things
you have said and done. Make your peace while you have time, and tell
those you love that you love them. Let them know you care regardless
of how angry you might be at them. You will never know when tomorrow
is simply too late to say, I'm sorry. I love you.

Mostly they are simple text based games like Guess the Number, Paper

Entertaining as a first project, but not much else. Any interest in

Oh ok thanks for this update I wonder if this update has an exit and

Please forward this message to anyone you think will benefit from this
information.

An update has been released for Three-D Velocity. Most notably, for those of
you who were having issues running NVDA and Three-D Velocity together, you will
find the experience to be more NVDA-friendly. There is no need to unload the
screen reader now before you start the game. Please see NVDA issue #1204.

Next, there was a small problem with the music. This has also been corrected.

The registration issue where the registration program would report a path not
found error has been corrected.

The startup scene at the beginning of a game can now be ksipped. Previously,
you could only skip the scene in Mission Mode.

Key map data can now be deleted from within the key map menu.

There is also a fix for the refuel tanker count. There was a problem where even
if you restart the Story Mode and play a new game, the count would not reset.

You can find a complete list of fixes and improvements, as well as download the
update, at the following link:
http://www.bpcprograms.com/programs/patches. This update installs over the full
setup, so you do not need to uninstall the game before installing the patch.
The update is about four megabytes in size.

I really enjoy playing your new Noah game.
However I'm having problems with some of the animals.
When I try to get the two dragons on the boat they keep burning a hole in
the side and just fly away.

Do I need something to keep them on board?
Then the unicorns keep stabbing the bears and lions.
Should I put a sleeping potion in their food to calm them down?
Finally, I think I made a mistake and put two male Tyrannosaurus rex on
the boat. as they don't seem to be reproducing like they should.

I hope you can help me with these problems.

Re: [Audyssey] Sudoku for newbies, possibly dummies

2010-01-08 Thread Jason Allen
Hi Scott,

I programmed the game initially for Android. It was a pretty cool Sudoku,
but the culture on Android just isn't what it is on the iPhone. I have an
Android phone and it is ridiculously less slick than my wife's iPhone. Had I
used an iPhone first, I would have likely abandoned the idea. But the game
is complete and wouldn't take much to get it working on the iPhone other
than learning a new API.

I might look into this. It certainly couldn't do any worse than the Android
implementation, haha!

I created a random sudoku generator for a phone app and think it could be

Re: [Audyssey] Public betas vs private testing

2010-01-06 Thread Jason Allen
I'm weighing in a bit late on this conversation, but I've generally had a
positive experience with open public testing. There are a few things I'm
worried about though. For one, as your application gets better, you start
competing with your final product. I'm also a little worried about people
burning out on the game before it's even released, but I think I can
circumvent that by adding a heap of new content for the final release.
Another problem is early conversations mention a lot about the instability.
That's normal in young applications but it might throw some people off.

As for the benefits, there were a lot of those too. It has built a great
community which you wouldn't have had if you had a surprise release. Once
everyone knows a new version is imminent, there is a lot of excitement too.

I started public testing extremely early because I really wasn't sure how to
proceed with the interface. Walking around a random dungeon had to have
special consideration. Plus all the important decisions about SAPI and
others were up in the air. Now I have a much better idea and I think the
next project will benefit a lot from that.

From a game sales standpoint, I don't know if public or private testing is
better yet though.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Netbooks and games

2010-01-01 Thread Jason Allen
Netbooks have to have seriously capped memory and processor speeds to meet
Microsoft's discounted XP licensing. I'd hesitate to use them for gaming
unless you're sure the new netbook is faster than your current laptop. One
thing that's often overlooked is the front side bus speed. Everything might
look the same on paper initially between netbooks, but you could be in for a
real surprise if you don't do a lot of research.

Newer netbooks come with a very stripped down version of Windows 7. I'd go
for that over XP.

Re: [Audyssey] another game programming question

2009-12-16 Thread Jason Allen
C++ wins cross platform absolutely. But with virtual desktops, it's not as
big of a win as it used to be.

If you go C++, you absolutely must learn object oriented programming
concepts. C++ supports these, but they aren't as elegant as more recent
programming languages like C#. If you use C#, you have no choice but to
write object oriented code, so there really isn't an issue there.

.NET is well thought out and modern. You don't need to use the XACT sound
tool (the much maligned sound creation engine mentioned in this thread) to
make sounds for games using the XNA framework. XNA comes built in with sound
and music libraries that don't use XACT at all. They support loading mp3s as
well. XACT is powerful but clunky, buggy, and a million other negatives.

As for security, .NET can be decompiled. But if you're using modern
programming concepts (which you will be) no one is going to be able to
recompile it. It essentially obfuscates itself. Of course, obfuscating the
code is another option. Is anyone going to want to spend the thousands of
hours to reverse engineer your game? Not likely. If you had top secret code
or projects, it's a much bigger problem.

C# supports a design concept called RAD, or rapid application development.
You will write larger / more complex programs much, much faster in C# than
writing the same application in C++.

C# also supports automatic garbage collection which is a big deal when it
comes to memory management and debugging.

The biggest drawback to C# is that you're essentially tied to Microsoft. You
have to intelligently weigh the benefits to porting your game to all
platforms. How many Linux players are you going to get really? What about
Macs? How many players do you lose if they can virtualize your game in their
native operating system? Is it still worth it?

Cheers!

2009-11-25 Thread Jason Allen
The best thing to do is quit the program entirely, then open it back up and
resume if you've been playing a long time. By long time, I mean, it must
take hours and hours to get to that level. Don't suffer with saves taking so
long, just exit out, restart, and be on your way. I'll optmize its memory
and processor usage as I develop it. As it's still in testing, this is less
of a priority at the moment.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Hi and an entombed question

2009-11-19 Thread Jason Allen
Oh yes, I'm always adding new bugs. Haha. The bug where your skeleton
attacks you has been fixed, but I introduced another annoying crash bug in
my latest update. If you can, wait 24 hours and I'll have another bug fix.

Entombed has been growing in leaps and bounds lately and has teething issues
at the moment.

[Audyssey] Entombed Beta 1 Released

2009-11-10 Thread Jason Allen
Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know that my audio RPG Entombed release beta 1 is now
available for download. Entombed is an audio game where you take on the role
of a party of adventurers braving the depths of a nefarious dungeon.
Characters have loads of customization, gain experience and levels, and
accumulate abilities and magic. However, a word of caution, the game is
still in testing and fairly unstable. Save often!

You can find the documentation here: http://wiki.blind-games.com
The game download is here: http://www.blind-games.com/EntombedSetup.exe

Please let me know what you think!

Thanks!

I almost forgot to mention that Entombed's intro trailer can be found here:

game andtry it out for

Re: [Audyssey] entomb-several questions

2009-10-12 Thread Jason Allen
Hello,

There are lots of secrets in Entombed, only two have cards currently though.

Rocks are for slings, but I removed the sling this build and forgot to put
it back in.

The second skill of the Fortune Teller can alter a battle dramatically, but
is often only subtle. All you'll know if it was in your favor or not.
Fortune Telling, isn't an exact science after all.

Jason

 What are the rocks for?
I notice that if your pet dies, it sheet doesn't disappear from the 'C'
function and you cannot equipped your other characters cause it keeps
targetting the pet. This a bug?

Also, so far I've not been able to get the observe skill to learn anything,
any one got any luck on this?

Does anyone know if the second skill of the fortuneteller class do? I mean
it says things like 'a leopard standing against the moon, this looks good'
but doesn't seem to do anything?

Also, I've unlocked two secret cards...are there more? Don't tell me what
they are, just a yes or no be fine.

 Thanks
No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.
