Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
Well, Draconis is looking into this for a future release, though likely we'd change the names of the balls and the game itself. It's possible, but no promises. Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
Hi, Chris and all. Just to bring everyone up to speed who missed some of the earlier posts the discussion was how to make a Quiddich game for the blind similar to those on the PS2 and other commercial gaming platforms. There is no current accessible Quiddich game, and no plans by developers to make one at this time. Smile. Chris Frahm wrote: > Hey all!!! Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
Having heard this game as well, I can tell you that all the character voices are different, though none of them are the voices from the films, which is surprising given that EA made the game. At any rate, I wouldn't really say each ball has its own effect. When you smack a bludger, you get to control that bludger for a few seconds. During that time, there is a sort of audio effect. Also, you can't miss when the snitch appears, as the crowd goes wild and the announcers, well, announce it. The game then turns entirely to the seekers as they race for it. Hope that helps. Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
The brooms and balls all had sound effects, lifted right from the film if memory serves. You could play for any number of various countries in the Quidditch finals in order to work your way to the championship. Most of the audio was commentated by Ludo Bagman, as in the books. Everyone rides Firebolts, as far as I remember. However, the game also allows you to play for the Hogwarts school Quidditch cup between the various Hogwarts houses. In that case you only ride a Nimbus 2001, if memory serves, and the commentating is done by the Weasley twins' friend Lee Jordan. It's been a while, but i messed about with it, but there really isn't enough audio feedback to play it properly without vision. Still, it is fun to watch sighted folks tackle it. Tom, Yeah, exactly. It's very sad, 'cause it is a sort of discrimination in a way. Granting rights to develop these games for the blind would not hurt them in any way, would indeed be excellent publicity, but since it won't substantially fatten their wallets... Oh well. My imagination is hopefully big enough to keep me in my own ideas for a while...as much as i would love to do a Quidditch game. Hi, Liam. In short that is the problem. Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
Yeah, Liam's got it pegged fairly well. What it basically works out to is a huge licensing fee to Warner Brothers (who handle most licensing issues in the Wizarding World) and possibly also to JKR and/or her publishers as well. Setting that aside, you could just sell the game and hope to not be bothered, and that is a risk that many developers are willing to take. I tend to be overly cautious, and would rather not risk it, and my business partner feels the same. Still, I would love to develop it. The Chaser is concerned with getting the quaffle and throwing it through the hoop at the end of the field, resulting in the scoring of 10 points. The Seeker is concerned with catching the Golden Snitch which results in a scoring of 150 points. - Original Message - From: "Thomas Ward" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Wednesday, June 14, 2006 10:03 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind. > Yeah, it might be. Hi. No. None that I know of. I imagine it wouldn't be so hard to code, but would be hard to play. Especially, since it would have to be fully 3D you would have up, down, left, right, front, and back to look for the balls. Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
Hi Allison, I don't know of any accessible quiddich games but I am working on the next best thing. In my Harry Potter game code named Sarah, you will be able to become a seeker. I figured the game was like two games in one anyway and this part would be easier to create since it is just you against the snitch. There will be two bludgers trying to knock you out, no quaffle, and one very fast snitch. I will probably be putting a time limit on how long you can take to catch the snitch, with a longer time for the easy difficulty level. Of course to play this abrevieated version of quiddich you will have to buy the game and get to that level. In other words, this will be the "Boss" level of the game. Re: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind.
The thought has been passed from chaser to chaser in the past. Gamers and designers were discussing the feasability and the conclusion was that it would be very difficult to create as well as to play. Keeping track of the bludgers, quaffle, and snitch, the players for both sides and where the hoops are would be a lot of audible feedback to deal with. - Original Message - From: "Allison Mervis" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2006 9:15 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Quiddich game for the blind. > Hi all! > Does such a thing as an accessible Quiddich game exist?
