 Montezuma's Revenge News

 Hello gamers,
USA Games Interactive would like to make our customers of Montezuma's
Revenge aware of some late breaking changes involving Montezuma's
Revenge. As of December 1, 2007 USA Games will be renaming Montezuma's
Revenge to Montezuma's Return. The new version of Monte will be very
similar to the classic Montezuma's Revenge though it will have some
differences which will allow USA Games to copyright the game as an
original work. Changes included in the new version will be as described
 below.
First, we at USA Games felt the game should be given a new name. We
could site many reasons that brought us to this decision, but the one
that really stands out is the game has already been legally copyrighted
 under that name in 1984.
Second, a good number of gamers really expressed interest in playing the
game using our former character Angela. We also feel this is a good
idea. Not only does it make the game a bit different from the original,
but we liked her character our selves. We have hand picked all new
effects for Angela, and she has already been placed into the game.
Third, from the beginning of its development Monte hasn't exactly been
purely designed on a one to one comparison with the classic. For
example, in our version magic potions are used rather than magic
amulets. The difference in their use is miner, but it does stand out as
a difference between the two games.
in addition when it came to building the levels into an accessible
format we at USA Games used our poetic license to alter them some to
provide maximum accessibility or added a trap here or there to make the
 game more challenging or fun.
In the end I personally don't think our version of Montezuma's Revenge
has stayed true to Montezuma's Revenge. However, since this version is a
vastly updated and perhaps even improved version I think it can be built
around the idea of a sequel where the main character isn't Panama Joe
but some other hero or heroin following the same or similar adventure.
 Thus Montezuma's Return.
As of Nov. 23, 2007 USA Games has finally introduced the ability to
register the game using a product key. This is a major step forward for
us as we will be able to ship product keys to pre-ordered customers
 fairly soon.
We wish you all a happy holiday, and hope to have 1.0 ready with in the
 month.

There also is a picture of Cedric Diggery,
a fireplace
a non-magical broom
possibly a candy or sweet
Plus the door that is in the shape of a large cork,

If it is the headless hat, you can check your control h hat counter before
and after you take it to find out if it is a headless hat.

2007-11-24 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Nicol,
That sometimes happens when I leave a gap when building the walls. It could
be a gap that is only a foot wide but too small for you to pass through.
The other time that happens is if you are not facing exactly in the correct
direction.
With the arrow keys you can be 15 degrees off due east and then run into the
wall that is south of you.
I always use control arrow when aiming at a door since this puts you exactly
on the correct heading.

Hi Tom,
Since you are changing the name to Montezuma's Return,
this implies that Montezuma will be in part of the game.
Is he going to be a sort of boss level baddy?
If not, you could call the game,
Montezuma's Tomb Robbers Return.
Or,
Montezuma's Temple Raiders Return.
Of course, if one of the sculls is Montezumas,
you could call the game,
Montezuma's Sculls Return.

For those of you who already have Chopper Challenge 1.0, all you need to

Those of you that don't can either download and install the 1.0 version

Any feedback on Chopper Challenge would be much appreciated.

I really like the idea of having some kind of boss level at the end of the
temples here. It'd more than likely make me consider buying the game. If
you're making so many changes, any chance you could put in a few bosses,
like a giant rolling skull that you'd have to defeat somehow, maybe giant
sized versions of the other monsters, maybe a powerful mummy of some kind,
and the final battle coming down to Montazuma himself? I'd really like to
see this, boss fights in a side-scroller game like this have always been
crucial to playing for me, otherwise all the elevels just seem to run
together.

I even uninstalled the shockwave player and reinstalled it, but still no
 luck.
Is there supposed to be a separate window where the game plays, or does it
play in the same window as the web page? I ask this because there are no
other windows opening, it goes to the link, I see the web page and hear

Here is my problem. I have installed the shockwave player, like it said

see the game anywhere, only the webpage.
And, I checked, and active x controls are enabled in my security

Re: [Audyssey] the construction hat in the huffle puff room

2007-11-24 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Talksina,
If you have read the fifth Harry Potter book,
spoiler
space
You have walked into the defense of the dark arts professor's office.
On one wall is a collection of ornamental plates, each decorated with a
large technicolor kitten, wearing a different bow around its neck.
Professor Umbridge left them behind before she crept out of Hogwarts.
In the room you will find her name plaque and a fireplace with a pot of floo
powder.
Hitting enter on the floo powder will take you through the fireplace floo to
the Leaky Cauldron pub in London.
The kittens and floo ride in the game are just an experience and not for any
gain.
I like things in a game that you should not try more than once.
These are also things to teach you to save your game more often.
Phil

Hi gamers,

We've just released a patch for Chopper Challenge. We will be releasing the
new update as the full setup shortly.
This patch fixes a few game bugs and updates the location of the
scoreboards, as the updater had to be moved due to suspected hacking.
For those of you who already have Chopper Challenge 1.0, all you need to do
is grab the 1.1 patch.
Those of you that don't can either download and install the 1.0 version and
then the 1.1 patch, or wait for the full 1.1 installer to come, which may be
tomorrow.
Any feedback on Chopper Challenge would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien Sadler

Hi Alex.

Maybee they are right. I can tell you the chatting system is not accessible,
because screenreaders are not able to read inside these graphicle windows.
You will also find it very difficoult to find your distanations in the game.
You are walking in extremely large arias. If you ever have tried playstation
games, you'll know what I mean.
If you want to try it, I recommend you to try one of your friends accounts
before you buy it.

you're making so many changes, any chance you could put in a few bosses,
like a giant rolling skull that you'd have to defeat somehow, maybe giant
sized versions of the other monsters, maybe a powerful mummy of some kind,
and the final battle coming down to Montazuma himself? I'd really like to
see this, boss fights in a side-scroller game like this have always been

I think I set Sarah to wake in 2 minutes.
But if she is caught by the caretaker while sleeping, then the game is

And if she is caught by the Dementor, she still gets kissed but it is not

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge News

2007-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Phil,
Well, at this point probably not. I have already closed down new
developments to the engine and am working on finalisation of the game.
Since the original classic game did not have bosses I had not made plans
for any, and I'd have to reopen the engine development which could push
the release passed Christmas.
As I am sure you well know the feeling after laboring day in and day out
on a game for a year I just want something stable out there to sell. I
can always come back to the game in a few weeks or months with patches,
upgrades, etc. However, getting the basic 1.0 game out this Christmas is
something I really need to do. I already had to adopt a less secure
means of product keys just because I didn't have the cash to license a
well known product key and encryption software for Monte. Now, I have to
risk being hacked or cracked because James North took the startup money
for the game and I am operating from a budget of $0.00 for this game.

Phil Vlasak wrote:
 Hi Tom,
Since you are changing the name to Montezuma's Return,
this implies that Montezuma will be in part of the game.
Is he going to be a sort of boss level baddy?
If not, you could call the game,
 Montezuma's Tomb Robbers Return.
 Or,
 Montezuma's Temple Raiders Return.
Of course, if one of the sculls is Montezumas,
 you could call the game,
 Montezuma's Sculls Return.
 smiles,
 Phil

2007-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Shadow,
I understand what you are saying, but I can't simply intruduce this
feature into the game before 1.0. I have tentatively scheduled the
release date as December 15, 2007. However, the actual release date
could be a few days earlier or later depending on any issues encountered
or involved in release.
However, what may come after v1.0 remains to be seen.

2007-11-24 Thread shaun everiss
the game looks complete as far as I can tell.
THere are a few bugs I found which may already be fixed.
1. after the first launch if using the mouse, you can't launch the ball with
the mouse ie you can't pull back on the mouse, you have to do that with the
keyboard.
2. the game seems to be able to pass level10 with no problem its justafter
level 10 there is no announcement of the levels after it and I quit in the end
because I thought the game was going to go on indefinately.

2007-11-24 Thread Shadow Dragon
But that's the point. We've already made so many changes, what's one more
change going to hurt? I mean the game is far, far from being the classic
game it was, its got modernized sounds, its got manual use of swords,
different sorts of traps, etc. Its almost, as Thomas said, a sequal. I
really think boss fights would enhance this game. *shrug* Its just a
suggestion though. I can tell you you'd get my money for the game if it had
boss fights in it, but if noone else wants them or its too hard to put in or
you just don't want to put it in for some reason, one sale probably won't
matter, *grin*. Ah well.

If you could get a full keyboard setup then maybe. But I've never played the

fully accessible Im sure some blind gamer would have tried it long ago and
we'd all be on there playing right now, *grin*. Its probably a
misconception, like with runescape. People think they know when something's
accessible but actually don't. For example, runescape is text-based, but its
written in I believe java and flash, so none of the text reads with jaws,
that and a lot of the game is mouse driven. Its probably the same thing
here, where the game has awesome audio but probably not enough to tell
exactly where you're going and the like.

Hmm. That's odd. They should have unlocked it on your map when they told you

those other quests first, but it might be a wise idea since that gnoll is I
think a level 5 or so area, would be pretty hard to do before you've done
some of the other quests in the game. Course I haven't had a newbie

should be on your map, if its not then maybe its something they changed when

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge News

2007-11-24 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Tom,
I quite understand your having to stop game development to get the game
finished and ready to sell.
One suggestion for an upgrade so as not to introduce a new creature would be
to name the last scull,
Montezuma's scull.
As it might be the last obstacle before winning the game it could be
considered the boss scull.
Hope you get many Christmas sales of the MR game.

 Hi Phil,
Well, at this point probably not.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge News

2007-11-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Developing bosses etc would take quite a bit of rnd which I really don't
have time for at this moment. I can say though one game I have strongly
considered is something similar to the megaman series powered by the
Monte engine.
in such a case then there certainly would be bosses on each level, but a
bit different than those in true Megaman.
Bottom line, Monte currently isn't developed around the concept of
bosses. I'd have to totally rework the way swords work, probably turn
skulls into sword wielding skeletons, etc in order to balance out the
combat system.
With a game like Megaman each enemy weather they are snipers, robot
tanks, etc all have weapons so it more or less balances out in fairness.

Shadow Dragon wrote:
Yeah, I figured as much. It'd be cool if they went in eventually, I'd expect
it'd take quite some time to make bosses for each level, or every 3 levels
or whatever. It'd be a cool implementation but I understand where you're
coming from. *shrug* I just hope you decide to do it eventually. It'd
probably push this game above super liam in my eyes if there were some kind
of boss battle system, *grin*. Either way, here's hoping.

Re: [Audyssey] world of warcraft And other stuff

2007-11-24 Thread Kuvvosh Suggs
I have to say this game is not accessible. I've tried it out just recently
since my brother has the game. He got me logged in and I could move the
character, but that was it, tried several screen readers and no luck. So
there For no this is not accessible, unless the Game makers would add
narrator to it then it might work then, But. Come on you know that will
never happen with everything focus on money these days.

I'm wishing that some game developer would make a Real Real Role Playing
Game for once, I'm sick of all the other styles of game play. I have yet
seen one RPG that even worth playing. Sure there is Swith which is fine,
just its lacking in a lot of areas. For one if it's going to be accessible,
why not have the option of turning off the graphic parts, and just text only
with buttons and the combo box and that it. Also I paid for a adventure
account, yet I get the ignoring advertisement. That is one reason why I
have not renewed my subscription or even devote any time into it cause of
simple time consuming.

For one a RPG based game is not far fetch given, that we already have the
engines readily available. It's just the fact that no Blind game developer
will make one, simply cause of the fact it would be a big project to do so.
Why not hire or find people that are willing to develop the quests, items
descriptions and the works while the main programmer works on the game and
so forth.

We got Shades of Doom, That engine there alone has been used in making
several games, and I'm sure that it could be used to make a RPG.

I can see that it would needs some clean up with some flaws, as having over
2k of files in one folder is not very good in game performance and
updateability of it, as you would have to scratch your head on figuring out
which file is which and that takes too much time.

I've pointed this out to Phil for SOC, cause it's severely lacking in
performance, due to this one prob.

I know I'm going to probley get some flame mail from this, I understand
programming, and I understand concepts and so forth. I done programming
work before I lost my sight, and a lot of other things in the computer
world.

But, really. Main Game community like EA, Blizzard, and a load of others
will never look at blind people simply cause it's not feasible, and just
plain bias that they think that disable people will not be able to play such
games.

I know chee is most likely to get the big bucks with coming out with the
first fully accessible RPG game. Once he gets on the roll with it.

I already got story lines and stuff created for RPG's and stuff. But will
never have the chance to use them and such, as I spend most of my time
working on writing other books and stuff. And Tech work every day.

Any how. I'll shut up. *Grin*

2007-11-24 Thread Shadow Dragon
Yeah. I'm a little curious about how James was planning to work the tomb
guardian battle at the end of the game he was making. Did you ever get any
details on that? A megaman game or something along those lines would be
cool, but I think it'd be cooler to see something like Monty with bosses. As
in not the actual monty game itself with bosses since you seem to be against
that, but something where you're in either a medieval setting or some kind
of ancient temple, and you use melee weaponry instead of guns and the like.
Always have been a fan of swords and other weaponry. Ever thought of trying
a zelda knockoff? That was always one of my favorite series of mainstream
games, very puzzle oriented, original, huge sellection of weapons and just
fun to play overall.

 Hi,
Developing bosses etc would take quite a bit of rnd which I really don't
have time for at this moment.
With a game like Megaman each enemy weather they are snipers, robot
tanks, etc all have weapons so it more or less balances out in fairness.

coming from. *shrug* I just hope you decide to do it eventually. It'd
probably push this game above super liam in my eyes if there were some
 kind
of boss battle system, *grin*. Either way, here's hoping.

Re: [Audyssey] Montezuma's Revenge News

2007-11-24 Thread Bryan
Something like Zelda would probably be murder to program, even a game as
relatively simple as the original. You'd have to program the overworld, the
underworld, the shops and the different enemies. And that's probably not
even scratching the surface. Tom did say he'd once considered writing
something like that but the amount of coding involved was enough to make him
cringe.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

2007-11-24 Thread Shadow Dragon
Yeah, probably. If I had the patience for anything programming related I'd
try some of this stuff myself, but I have no real patience for that sort of
thing, plus I'm of the mind that if you make a game, especially a plot
oriented game like Zelda, then what fun is it to play? *shrug* Guess that's
a bit selfish, but haha, ah well. Either way was just a suggestion.
