The GIMP's native file format ( .xcf :
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=.xcf=v140-1=web ) should be forward compatible
with newer versions of GIMP or Windows. Note however that it is sometimes
compressed as *.xcf.gz ; *.xcf.bz2 ; *.xcf.xz ; etc. Anyway, you should be able
to just copy over the files somehow and it will work.

There doesn't seem to be a jpeg2000. I also tried opening this sample file -

tried it in an 18.04 vm with gimp from this ppa -

I can try that in an ubuntu 18.04 VM later. In the meanwhile you can try
profiling gimp using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strace and other tools or
try running it in a new user.

console, by searching for "invert" - see

Note that GIMP can be scripted and automated using Scheme, Python, and other
languages to achieve a similar effect to PhotoShop's macros. They are not
compatible with one another though.

GIMP here opens that greyscale JPEG photo of a dog fine. It's possible you have
some problems with plug-ins. If you're not afraid of using the command line /
console / terminal / etc. you can try using dtruss (see
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=strace+os+x=web ) or similar to see what is going
wrong (or at least compress the dump and send it to us for analysis).

This will likely pass the "0" as an integer instead of a float or double - you
may need to do ((double)0).

First of all, please give us details of your operating system, its version and
other system details.

Otherwise, make sure you install GIMP from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/ .
If you're using MS Windows, you can download an .exe installer from there
which you can double-click to install GIMP system-wide and put it in the
system's menus.

Sounds like a productive year. Thanks to everyone who invested the effort and

 We don’t have a schedule for GIMP 2.10 release at this point. The best
 way to help us getting there is still contributing by porting more
 plugins to GEGL and making GEGL faster :)
 

I’ll try to dedicate some time for helping in that (being a programmer
proficient in C and a former GIMP contributor and all) but note that

I was a little confused by this message, so I consulted the ##hardware channel
on irc.freenode.net, and based on what they told me MasterRahl is most probably
joking given that:

1. I got indirect access (by proxy) to some High Performance machines,
hosted at several universities, and the most I could get was 512 GB (or half a
TB) per node (running RHEL Linux or something). These computers are very pricey
and I'm not sure they sell them to individuals, and they had many CPUs.

2. The largest DIMMs you can get now have 16 GB of RAM and you'll need 64 slots
to make them into a 1 TB.

I guess MasterRahl was speaking tongue in chick. In any case, I think GIMP can
utilise 1 TB or 2 TB of RAM, when and if they will be available, but I'm not
sure if it was ever tested. Anyway, 16 GB (or less) should be more than enough
for most needs. Regarding 128 cores - GIMP may not be able to fully utilise
them to their maximal capacity, but utilising SMP properly is a hard problem,
and it was an ongoing focus of programming language research (with some costs
of making such languages less simple and less easy to learn and use).

Why would it? Just compile using ./configure --prefix=/opt/gimp-2.8.x (for
example) and install under a separate prefix. No need to install directly
under /usr .

 I checked Distrowatch for Centos:Ridiculous,Their Gimp is at 2.6.9 while the 
 last 
 in the 2,6 series is 2,6.12.
 I've been using Gentoo since december 2003 after trying a lot of distro's.
 Go to their website and check out the Handbook.
 It has a steep learning curve but the reward is commensurate.
 You'll be able to install and compile anything you may want.

There are many distributions one can recommend instead of CentOS (and I have
my own preference that is not Gentoo) and I'm sure a lot of them have many
merits, but the question was asked regarding CentOS and we should stick to
