[JAWS-Users] win 10 causing problems
Well, my grandson’s computer is almost unusable to him since the win 10 update. At first he thought that zoom text was working. It is not. Not sure how he can get it corrected. I wish that the school would have purchased a FS product but they went for the cheapest. They may have to purchase a new copy that will work with win 10. He can not tell what else does not work. He with some help did a school assignment but can not print it. What ever program that the school uses for printing he now can not access. He will have to print it at school tomorrow. I wanted to call Microsoft to have them back the computer to windows 8.1 but he does not want to take the long time and is afraid that more problems will show up. He does not want to use a screen reader yet. I think that there is one built into zoomtext but he refused to even take a look. He did lose all of his favorites during the unexpected update. --- Please visit my web page It’s motivational, inspirational with a touch of humor There is also a very extensive resource list for the blind http://www.LennyMcHugh.com International Brotherhood of Magicians member #43990R For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Don't worry about it, if you were using cracked software and we could confirm it then you have a problem. Since none of that has come to pass you have nothing to concern yourself with at this point. Re: [JAWS-Users] win 10 auto update no choice
There is a free tool that blocks Windows 10 notifications and monitors the computer for any attempts to change to 10. It's called GWX control panel. I don't know if anyone has heard of or used it but it did take my windows 10 notifications away. I don't know much about it or what kind of rating or cautionary measures it may have, but at least for now I feel I need to do whatever it takes to block this thing. - Original Message - From: "Lenny McHugh"To: "JFW List" Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2016 2:49 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] win 10 auto update no choice My grandson just came home from school. my computer boots from a solid state drive and has a platter hard drive for storing stuff, and occasionally the platter HD revs up. I also notice it revs up whenever I use the safely remove utility in the systray to remove an external USB HD. is this normal behavior? is there a way I can find out what is causing this? Re: [JAWS-Users] auto update to windows 10
No, it may get downloaded but not installed. You have to go through a process to install w-10. Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed reaching His goal. Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with good health. Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be spiritually balanced with wealth. Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens where God sits. Tab, to show all updates available - enter. When, they populate, select with the spacebar or deselect. Skip the windows10 update, Then, tab to ok - enter. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. The truth of the matter is that I was a little nervous about telling my story because I didn't know how people would see it. You know I live in Canada, and in the province I live in blind people are entitled to free software, computers, cctv's, brail equipment, etc. for free every 5 years, so if I really can't afford something I have the option to wait until my 5 years is up and get everything for free. So this so called expert who claims to want to help blind people so much should get his facts straight before he so easily accuses people. Anyhow I am just glad that everyone now knows who I am and where I stand so there are no more misunderstandings when it comes to my name. Again thanks so much for understanding and confirming my intentions as you read my emails. Re: [JAWS-Users] Another Openbook 9 Update, 9.0.1696.403
No, you are not the only one by a long shot. Open Book users on other mailing lists have reported problems with JAWS and Open Book itself after they installed the latest Open Book update. I guess I was just lucky. Although in my case the Open Book update, 9.0.1695, somehow caused JAWS 16 to revert from the Home Use version in normal, full mode to the Professional version in 40 minute demo mode, I was able to successfully re-authorize JAWS 16 and restore it to normal without having to repair or re-install it. I use Windows Live Mail with Gmail and Windows 7 and no problems. It says it is Outlook Express. Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Outlook Express with gmail
Hi Arianna, Here is a note that might help with your friends situation: From: Carlos I'm guessing you used the installer for the last free version. Sorry there's one minor point I always forget about that installer. Basically, during the installation, the Protected Storage component has to be updated. The Protected Storage component is responsible for remembering account passwords. Unfortunately, in the installer for the last free version the checkbox which insures the Protected Storage component gets updated is unchecked by default for some reason. Just reinstall it and make sure the Protected Storage checkbox is checked. Don't forget to run the installer as administrator and reboot after the installation is complete. After you reboot and run Outlook Express, it will ask for your account passwords one final time, but after that it should remember them for subsequent sessions. Carlos Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Another Openbook 9 Update, 9.0.1696.403
Hi David & Gerald, Well, this new update would not install at all. I must have tried 20 times, & this is no exageration! Even FS tech support could not get it to install on this computer. I ended up having to repair Jaws 16 & Openbook to get my computer right again. Neither update, OB9.0.1695.403 or, OB9.0.1696.403 would install. So, I'm back to 9.0.1543 after around 5 hours of wasted time. Take care. The school installed zoomtext on his computer. I had a demo copy of jaws 15 installed but have not needed access to his computer in a very long time. There are some other programs installed. He was told by the school not to install win 10 and now it is completely installed and set up. Zoomtext did update and looks like it is running for him. Not sure about everything else. -Original Message- From: TheHangMan Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2016 8:44 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] auto update to windows 10 Lenny, If he was running jaws 16, 17 or have openbook installed, That would never happen, like you say, automatically. Because the upgrade would only get to about 25% complete and you would have to cancel the install, or continue and remove the FS programs. Re: [JAWS-Users] This is a test
Although we don't discourage test messages all that much, the fact is this list is high enough traffic that they should not be needed all that much. So let's keep them to a minimum if possible, thanks.
