[JAWS-Users] Jaws and a braille display -- how to shift to the left

2016-08-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I'm using the latest build of jaws with an 80 character focus display
on a windows 7 laptop in my job as a mainframe programmer. When using
the Reflexions emulation package the braille appears way to the right
of the display using only perhaps the right most 25 cells and leaving
the rest of the display blank. I don't have this problem in any other
application. Outlook, Lync, Word etc. all make use of the entire
display, but not the emulator.

I tried tweaking the pixels per space setting and got some
improvement. Adjusting from 10 to 8 pulled the braille to the left a
few cells, but still half of the display isn't being utilized.

I realize this is a pretty specific scenario and problem and that I
will probably have to call tech support, but I thought I'd run it by
you guys first since I often get better answers here than from FS
itself.

Any help is much appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Nonuniform tables in email? What the heck?

2016-08-02 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Today I tried to read an email in outlook, a thing I've done
thousands, maybe millions of times before. Except today jaws is
reporting that the email is a nonuniform table which makes it
extremely hard to navigate and read.

Does anyone have any idea what I may have inadvertently done to cause
this behavior? Or how to undo it?

Thanks,
Kimber

[JAWS-Users] How to priortize search results in win 7

2016-07-28 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Is it possible to prioritize which programs come to the top of search
results in windows 7? For example, when I begin typing downloads in
the search box, I would like the downloads folder to be the first
suggestion in the list rather than the third or fourth. Is this
possible?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Maybe OT: Dropbox on a win7 computer with jaws

2016-07-27 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

If this is totally off-topic, please accept my apologies and respond
off-list if you can help.

I have been trying to use dropbox on my windows 7 laptop. The install
seemed to go okay as did starting up and syncing the first time I used
it to sync a file. Ever since -- at least until I uninstalled --
dropbox refused to open with the shortcut on the desktop. When I
looked in the systray, I saw that it was syncing, and syncing, and
syncing. Now I was only trying to transfer a single very tiny file, so
the sync should have not taken that long.

Does amyome have any ideas about what's going wrong here? I know lots
of people use dropbox very successfully and that I must be doing, or
not doing something.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own

2016-07-21 Thread Kimber Gardner
Wayne,

I'm afraid this is not very helpful, but I know exactly what you are talking
about because it has happened to me too and not just in Word. I've had the same
thing happen in Outlook. I'll be typing along then when I go back to proof what
I've written, I sometimes find portions of my text in a completely different
paragraph or line from where I intended.

I haven't been able to figure out any pattern regarding when this occurs making
it sort of random which is why I have never mentioned it on the list. I had a
half-baked theory that I was inadvertently hitting some key on my Braille
display that was causing the cursor to jump, but I just don't know. Are you
using a Braille display when this text jumping happens to you?

If anyone else has seen this behavior, I'd like to hear about your experience.
Maybe we can figure out what's going on and report it to FS or whatever the
heck they're calling themselves these days.

Re: [JAWS-Users] no jaws key on laptop

2016-07-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Go into basics under the file menu on the jaws screen and set your keyboard
layout to laptop rather than desktop. This change will make the caps lock your
jaws key, so whenever you would hold down insert to perform a function, instead
hold down caps lock. For example, caps lock f7 will list links.

[JAWS-Users] Custom formatting a date in excel 2010

Hi All,

I need to enter a date in an excel spreadsheet in the following

reformats it like this, mm/dd/. I need the info formatted just as
I described even down to dashes instead of slashes, but there is no
such formatting choice in the reformat cells dialog box. Is there some
method for imposing custom formatting in a specific column of a spread
sheet? I am using excel 2010 if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help.

Now I'm wondering if there's a similar method for the killing the "new

Re: [JAWS-Users] FS response to the virtual cursor issue

The trouble with that solution (turning virtual cursor on for all
applications), is when I am switching apps on the fly like from gmail

cursor on in every situation. I guess my biggest complaint is that it
used to just work and still does in version 16.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

I just had to share that one.

Btw I still have the problem, just in case there was any doubt. I am
seriously considering returning to version 16 since 17 has given me
one pile of grief after another.

[JAWS-Users] Solved my jaws 16 vs. 17 hotkey problem

2016-04-14 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

It took some time and poking around but I figured out the cause of my
inability to reassign control-alt-J from version 16 to version 17.

For some reason, and don't ask me why I did this, I had pinned jaws 16
to the taskbar. So when jaws 17 was running, I actually had two
instances of jaws on my taskbar. Dave, you were right when you said I
probably had two jaws icons hanging around. It was just the taskbar
rather than the desktop where the problem was.

As soon as I unpinned 16 from the taskbar I was able to successfully
assign control-alt-J to jaws 17.

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. You guys are the best.

Dave,

Interestingly, on the gmail site when I press jaws key + Z, the only
options I am given are on and off though I have seen the on for all
applications and off for all applications in other apps.

And just to add another twist, I only have this problem on the HP
laptop I use for work and not on my Lenovo laptop I use at home.

I did send a note to FS tech support yesterday. We shall see how they respond.

[JAWS-Users] What does jaws key + Z do?

2016-04-13 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Will someone tell me, please, what jaws key plus Z does? I can figure
that it turns something on and off and I think it has something to do
with quick nav keys. But since I installed jaws 17, this keystroke
seems to be turning itself on and off in a random way.

I've noticed this particularly when attempting to read my gmail
through the web interface using the html view. If I switch from the
gmail window to some other window then return, I am often unable to
use the X to navigate to the first checkbox. If I press jaws key plus
Z twice I hear on and off then the navigation keystroke seems to work
as normal.

Can anyone confirm that this is a problem? Or do I just not understand
the functionality of this key combo?

Thanks

Re: [JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-09 Thread Kimber Gardner
I don't understand what you're saying.

I have cleared the hotkey in the jaws 16 properties dialogue, deleted
jaws 16 from my desktop, rebooted my machine and set the hotkey in the
jaws 17 dialogue. Still when I perform the key combo control+alt+J,
jaws 16 loads instead of jaws 17. I was able to set control+alt+7 as a
hotkey to load jaws 17, but that doesn't really answer my question of
why I can't reassign control+alt+j.

I am out of ideas and will be calling FS for help on Monday.

Thanks all for your assistance. I will let the list know what happens.

[JAWS-Users] Trouble assigning a hot key for jaws 17

2016-04-09 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I had control-alt-J assigned as my hotkey for jaws 16, but I wanted to
reassign it to jaws 17. I went into properties under jaws 16 and
deleted the key assignment, only each time I try assigning that key
combo to jaws 17 in the property dialogue, instead of assigning the
keystroke it starts up jaws 16.

When I open the property dialogue under 16, it shows no hotkey
assigned. What am I missing?

Thanks,
Kimber

[JAWS-Users] Install of jaws 17.0.1806 caused all jaws versions to revert to 40 minute mode

2016-04-08 Thread Kimber Gardner
Last night I installed version 17.0.1806 on my Lenovo laptop at home.
To my dismay I found I had run out of activations so I attempted to
switch back to version 16. I found that now all versions of jaws on
that laptop are running in 40 minute mode. I dom't remember this being
the case with other versions of jaws. Has anyone seen this behavior?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Delete key question under jaws 17

2016-04-07 Thread Kimber Gardner
I just spent some time on the phone with John Carson. We did a few
test maneuvers and he says he thinks he's on the trail of the problem.
He says he'll pass the issue along to development and let me know when
they resolve it.

I'm impressed with how quickly FS jumped on this problem and will keep
the list posted on what happens.

As a side note, the only change I regularly make in my attachmate
configurations is unchecking the box to use the extended insert as a
jaws key since I need it to function as an insert key.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Delete key question under jaws 17

2016-04-07 Thread Kimber Gardner
Adrian,

I hadn't thought of that, but when I just tried it, the documentation
reports that jaws should delete the character at the cursor then read
the next character gaining focus. It doesn't do that. The
documentation also says something about the functionality being
controlled by the application which I don't understand.

I guess I will make a report to FS. So annoying!

[JAWS-Users] Delete key question under jaws 17

2016-04-07 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I use an emulation package called attachmate to do programming. Under
previous version of jaws (as recent as version 16), when I press the
delete key, jaws would read the characters being deleted. With version
17, jaws says "delete" each time the delete key is pressed which is
totally useless information.

Is there some way to get this functionality back? This problem is
sufficiently annoying that it could keep me from using jaws 17 unless
I can figure out a solution.

Thanks for your thoughts.

2016-03-30 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi all,

I feel like I should know this but I don't.

Is there a way to reload the eloquence profile without rebooting the computer?

I went into the voice adjustment dialogue and tweaked the speech rate
under the eloquence profile. But despite restarting jaws, my changes
disappear whenever I switch from one application to another. What am I
missing? Is there a way to get the changes to stick without rebooting
the laptop?

Thanks

[JAWS-Users] Hardware decTalk -- is it still usable?

2016-03-09 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I was cleaning out my office the other day (they are giving us new
carpet at work), and I found an old hardware DecTalk with a serial
connector. Now aside from the connector issue, is the hardware DecTalk
even supported anymore by Jaws? If so, is there a converter that will
allow me to connect it to my laptop?

In my opinion, the hardware DecTalk was the best speech ever so I am
really hoping it is still a viable option.

Thanks for any info.

2016-03-01 Thread Kimber Gardner
Wayne,

I have an HP laptop for work and have not been able to find any way to
turn off the touchpad. I actually taped a piece of cardboard over the
touchpad so I wouldn't keep touching it accidentally. Not exactly an
elegant solution, but it works.

This is a huge drawback of HP laptops, imo, and the main reason I
would never buy one for my personal use.

Thanks for the link. I did some poking around but couldn't find any

[JAWS-Users] Formatting columns in word then getting jaws to read the columns

2016-03-01 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Hoping someone can help me out.

I need to format a document with two columns. For the sake of example
let's call them cause and effect. Obviously, or maybe not so obvious,
each effect in column B is associated with the cause listed on that
same line in column A.

What would be the most jaws friendly way to format the document so the
associations are clear both visually and via jaws? Would tables be
useful? If so, I need a little tutorial on setting that up.

I am using word 2013 and jaws 16 though I do have access to jaws 17 if need be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Excel thinks it knows what I want to type but it's wrong

2016-02-12 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

This seems like it should be simple, but it's driving me crazy.

I'm entering data on an excel spreadsheet. Column A contains days of
the week. Column B contains dates like 9/16. Column C contains hours
worked for each day/date. However when I attempt to enter a simple
numeric value in column C, excel keeps changing it to a date. I've
tried deleting the contents of column C and retyping. I've tried
deleting the contents of column B (the actual date), entering the
hours then retyping the date. Nothing is working. Excel keeps changing
my hours to dates.

How can I fix this? It's making me crazy!

Thanks in advance,
Kimber

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with iTunes

2015-12-11 Thread Kimber Gardner
I had this problem after updating my iPhone to iOS9.

What version of iTunes are you running on your computer? If your issue
is the same as mine, you may need to update iTunes. Even though my
laptop said I was running the latest version of iTunes, that wasn't
true. I had to go to the following link and download iTunes 12.3. Once
I did that and installed iTunes, the problem went away.

https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

I hope this helps.

I haven't used outlook 2007 in a long time, but there's a checkbox
under customize that says something like start in outlook today. You
want to uncheck that.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ituens question

2015-11-24 Thread Kimber Gardner
I have some very good and detailed instructions for creating ring
tones which I can send you off-list, if you would like. Just let me
know.

As for your question, and I am going from memory here so beware ...

If you put focus on the track you want to turn into a tone then press
the context key, there's an option for get info or something like
that. There are several tabs under that selection and the one you want
is called something like options. In there you find some checkboxes
for start time and end time along with the default values. You'll have
to tab around play to get what you want but it's there.

Sorry I can't be more exact, but I'm not on the computer where I have
iTunes installed.

[JAWS-Users] Key differentiation not working in jaws 17

2015-11-20 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I came across a strange issue this morning and I wonder if anyone can
reproduce it.

In version 17, when I check the box to differentiate between numpad
and extended keys, my insert key does not insert and my delete key
when pressed, simply says "delete" rather than speaking the characters
being deleted.

I didn't have this problem in either version 15 or 16.

Thanks,

Can anyone confirm this behavior?

[JAWS-Users] Links not activating in Outlook 2013 messages

2015-11-19 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I've had this problem for quite a while but have just gotten around to
posting about it.

Frequently when I get email from a company like Audible for example,
and the email contains links that are identified as graphic links by
Jaws, I am unable to activate the link no matter what I do. Enter does
nothing, Jaws cursor and left click does nothing. I know the links are
good because I can forward the email to my gmail account (accessed on
the web) and activate them there.

Is this an Outlook issue? A Jaws issue? Something up with my security settings?

Can anyone give me a clue what might be going on here? And maybe how to fix it?

Thanks for any thoughts.

How do you accomplish the cut and paste if the link doesn't appear as
an address? For example, I might come across a link that says link
graphic recommended for you. It doesn't show as a listed link and
can't be reached with the tab key either.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS says new paragraph and new line in word document

2015-10-26 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi Neil,

You can stop the announcement of "new paragraph" but the only way I
know to do it is from within Word itself.

Press alt F for the file tab. Jaws will not announce anything, but
never mind that, you are in the correct place. Arrow up two or three
times to options then press the spacebar. You will be placed in a
selection of categories. Arrow down once to display. Tab through the
options until you reach a checkbox for paragraph marks and uncheck it
with the spacebar.

Now you will no longer hear the announcement of new line and new paragraph.

I hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I will pay someone to help me with face book with jaws

2015-10-08 Thread Kimber Gardner
I feel like I have a lot more control in Firefox than in IE. I can
more easily keep track of where I am on various pages, update status
and make comments on the status of others. It seems like navigation is
smoother too.

Don't misunderstand, Facebook is still no picnic. But it's usable and
I don't end up tearing out my hair with frustration.

FB is only thing I use Firefox for, so it isn't that I am against
internet explorer. Quite the contrary. But I suggest giving it a try.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2013 navigating between email accounts

2015-10-06 Thread Kimber Gardner
Kimsan,

I have a similar arrangement within Outlook on my laptop. What I do is
move to the top of the folders list then press the first key of the
account I want to access. For example, if you have two accounts one
called Kimsan and the other called Workmail, pressing W will take you
to that account then you can arrow down once to get to the workmail
inbox. It will still be called inbox when you get there, but at least
you're certain of which account you're accessing.

It's not a perfect solution, but it works for me.

Well, the other way to handle it would be to simply press K twice to
reach the second K account. Yeah, it's an extra keystroke but it will
get you to the right spot without arrowing through all your folders.

Kimsan,

Here's a link I found that explains how to rename accounts in outlook 2013.

http://www.outlook-tips.net/tips/tip-1057-rename-accounts-outlook-2013/

Make sure to read all way through the explanation because there's an
extra step to get the name to be changed in the navigation pane.

I hope this helps.

This is what you have to do to change the account name in the navigation pane.

If you are using a POP3 account or personal folders (*.pst), you can
change the name that displays in the folder list and navigation pane
using this method:
1.Right-click on the data file name you want to change and choose Data
File Properties (Properties in older versions of Outlook).
2.Click the Advanced button on the Properties dialog
3.Change the names in the in the Data File Dialog

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a signature in Outlook 2010

2015-09-15 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi,

This may seem a bit convoluted, but it's not too bad really.

Create a new message -- alt H, N
Go to the insert tab -- alt N and arrow down once to the incllude box
Arrow right until you reach the signature dropdown and press enter.
You'll find yourself on the word signatures followed by an ellipses.
Press enter. You are now in the email signatures tab.
Tab three or four times until you get to the "new" button and press
enter. Once you've done that, you will be in an edit box where you
want to type the name of the signature, like My Sigline or whatever.
Type the name then tab to ok and hit enter.
Now you will find yourself in a tab with all sorts of options like
which account you want the new signature associated with, the font,
alignment, whether you want the signature added to replies or forwards
etc. The last tab before ok is the edit box where you will type the
text of the signature. Once you type the text, tab to ok and press
enter.

If you have questions, let me know.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And Outlook 2010

2015-09-11 Thread Kimber Gardner
To turn off the preview pane in Outlook 2010, do the following:

Go to the View tab by pressing Alt V then the letter V. Tab over to
Other Settings and press the spacebar. Now tab until you reach the
radio buttons for how you want to handle the auto preview pane. Select
the button for no auto preview then tab to ok.

I think that will do what you want. This also applies to Outlook 2013.
One thing to be aware of, I think you have to do these steps for each
folder individually. I think there's a way to hide the preview pane
for all folders, but I can't remember how to do it.

I hope this helps.

[JAWS-Users] Can't access an attachment in outlook

2015-09-02 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I received an email from a work colleague that has an attachment. I
know this because outlook tells me there's an attachment as does the
text of the email. But no matter what I do, I can't locate the
attachment to either open or save it. There's no attachment tab and
when I explore with the jaws cursor there is no attachment either at
the top or the bottom of the email.

I've gotten other emails like this and I assume the inaccessibility
has something to do with how the sender attaches the document. But I'm
not certain what method produces this result.

Can anyone help? This attachment is the template for a report I need
to prepare, so it's pretty important that I gain access to it.

Thanks,
Kimber

I have no idea what a vertical tab is or how to stop jaws from
announcing it constantly and it's about on my last nerve.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Issues with Netflix and a laptop using JAWS 16

2015-06-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Netflix is much easier to manage on the iPhone than on the laptop, at
least that's my experience. I can tell you if you turn on audio
description using the app on your phone, then when you watch content
on your laptop the audio description will be on already and you won't
need to mess with it.

There were some pretty good instructions posted a few months ago on
one of the jaws lists. I can't recall if it was this list or another,
but I have them saved on my other computer and will send them
privately, if you'd like.

[JAWS-Users] How to tell if I have 32 or 64 byt internet explorer running

2015-05-21 Thread Kimber Gardner
Good morning all,

Sorry for the off-topic question, but I know someone here will know the answer.

I recently got a new computer. It's a windows 7 machine, and IE 11 is
running extremely slow and sluggish, much slower than on my previous
machine using the same internet connection. A little googling
suggested that I may be running a 32 byt version of IE instead of the
64 byt version, but I don't know how to determine which version I
have.

Can somebody give me instructions?

Thanks so much! I really need to fix this problem. It's driving me crazy!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Netflix with JAWS

2015-05-16 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi Tim,

A while back someone (I think it was Rex) posted these instructions
for using jaws with Netflix. They're pretty good and should get you
going so you can start watching.

***

Hey all, I wrote this little tutorial to help Jaws users effectively
navigate NetFlix.

Hope this is helpful to some.

You can access Netflix, start and stop play, move forward and back
and use the video play controls but it does take a little enginuity.

Let's say we want to watch House MD.

We log into netflix, click on our profile name and then click on the
search link.

Type in House MD and press enter.
Now you arrow down until you find something that says graphic House
MD. Right below that is a link that says Y Player. If you click that
link, the playback will start where you last left off. If this is the
first time you have clicked on a movie or series, it will start with
the first episode or at the beginning of the movie.

We'll get to the playback options in a minute. Let's assume that you
want to access the list of episodes for a particular series.

Using our House MD example, arrow back up to the area that says
graphic House MD. It may say something a little different on your
computer but the idea is that you find the graphic for the show
you're trying to access.

Now, press home to make sure you're on the graphic.
route Jaws to PC with insert+[, access the Jaws cursor with insert+p
and then use insert+8 to leftclick.

This should cause a link to the show to appear further down the page.
Arrow down through the information and go past service code and
copyright info. You should reach a link to the show. Click that link.

Now you can move around and look at the episodes in the season you've
reached. If this is your first time accessing the show, you'll be on
season 1. To change seasons arrow down past recommend to a friend
and you will hear season 1. Press enter on the number of the season.
This will cause a list of seasons to come up. Press enter on the
season you want.
Now just find the show you want to listen to and arrow down one time
to the play link and press enter.

Now, press insert+z to turn virtual PC cursor off. Press the tab key
and you should hear something like scrubber ...

press shift+tab to go back and you'll be in the play options area.
Press the upp arrow to increase the volume, down arrow to decrease,
spacebar to stop and start and left and right arrows to move through
the show. If you move forward or backward, you may need to press the
spacebar to start play because it will stop when you arrow through the
show.

There are some other things you can do in this area. Just explore by
tabbing through the page. Remember that your virtual cursor is turned
off. When you're ready to leave that page, be sure and turn it back
on.

This may require a little trial and error on your part but you can
quickly master the netflix system.

On 5/15/15, Tim Ford ttf...@gmail.com wrote:
 Hello All,

My daughter just set me up with my own profile on Netflix. I was able to
pick my profile, although JAWS did not say it was a link, just a graphic,
but a left mouse click command on the keyboard did open my profile.

I then see all the shows and movies she pre-selected for me, including a
brand new Netflix series that prompted my asking to be set up. Below each
show title is a link to Y Player, and when I select that, I get a screen
where only the Netflix title appears, no links or anything.

Does someone have a basic guide for using JAWS with Netflix, or is Netflix
 even accessible?

 Tim Ford

I had someone sighted look at the keyboard and he found the insert key

Well, I have to correct my previous email. While insert+h and insert+j do
perform those functions and CAPS lock+h and CAPS lock+j do other functions,
I just found that there are actually Laptop keys to do those functions.
 They are control+shift+CAPS lock+h and control+shift+CAPS lock+j. I prefer
the insert key. This is just a guess, but there is ;probably an insert key
on that laptop, but you have to hold down the function key to use it.
Hopefully the Laptop documentation will reveal some information.

 Hi

When you're using the Laptop keyboard layout, the CAPS Lock key is the
JAWSKey, but not the insert key. I do not believe it will put you in or
take you out of insert mode while typing. You can perform most of the JAWS
functions using the CAPS lock key, but not all of them. While using the
Laptop keyboard layout, there are a couple of functions that still require
the actual insert key. You have to use insert+h to bring up Hot key help.
Also you have to use insert+j to move to the JAWS window or bring up the
JAWS context menu if you're running JAWS from the system tray.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

2015-05-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Recently I began consistently using jaws 16 and I'm seeing some odd
behavior which I wonder if anyone can confirm.

During remote sessions using VPN, jaws 16 frequently goes absolutely
silent for minutes at a time. Occasionally speech will return if I
wait long enough, but often I have to reboot the computer before I am
able to regain speech.

This same behavior would sometimes occur with older versions of jaws
(prior to jaws 15), but then it seemed to be fixed.

I work from home several days a week, signed on to my desktop at work
and these frequent silences are very disruptive, not to mention the
reboots. Has anyone else seen this behavior with jaws 16? I intended
to report it to FS, but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it
seems to happen randomly without regard to what application I may be
using at the time.

Thanks,
Kim

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

2015-05-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
How do you find the program in the list when there is no speech?

Sometimes when this happens at home I can turn on NVDA and it gets
things untangled. But I am not allowed to have NVDA on my work
computers, so there goes that workaround.

I too have seen the skipped characters (most often in Outlook), as
well as my cursor moving eradically around the document so characters
I have typed come out all jumbled up. This happens only with jaws
version 16.

On 5/5/15, Annette Carr amca...@verizon.net wrote:
Yes, I am seeing similar issues. It seems like the computer is hanging up,
so JAWS does not speak, and I can't switch to another open application.
 The
silences range from 3 seconds to 34 seconds today.

I am continuing to have random occurrences of spaces missing from e-mail
replies that I create, and random 1-3 letters will be missing from what I
 am
typing in the body of Outlook messages and in Word Documents.

I've got an open ticket with FS regarding all of this. The problems were
happening with JAWS14 and FS said that I had to update to JAWS 16. After
battling my employer over this, JAWS16 was installed and the problems still
existed. Went back to FS and was told that I had to install the next
 update
and the problem would go away. I have since installed the last 2 updates,
with absolute no improvement. I am trying to schedule a phone conference
between FS and my IT department, but it is like herding cats.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 16 frequently goes silent

Recently I began consistently using jaws 16 and I'm seeing some odd
 behavior
which I wonder if anyone can confirm.

During remote sessions using VPN, jaws 16 frequently goes absolutely silent
for minutes at a time. Occasionally speech will return if I wait long
enough, but often I have to reboot the computer before I am able to regain
 speech.

This same behavior would sometimes occur with older versions of jaws (prior
to jaws 15), but then it seemed to be fixed.

I work from home several days a week, signed on to my desktop at work and
these frequent silences are very disruptive, not to mention the reboots.
 Has
anyone else seen this behavior with jaws 16? I intended to report it to FS,
but I'm not sure even how to explain it since it seems to happen randomly

 Thanks,

 Howdy Again,

I found the Drag Drop function on / off I was thinking of. It's in the

found that the drag drop keystroke is not, Control + Slash, but, it is,
Control, Insert, + Slash, on my Win7 computer anyways using a desktop

 What up bro:

I have 9 items on my taskbar. The last item is my shutdown shortcut,
so all I have to do is press windows key 9 to shutdown quickly. If
I'd like to place it at number 1, I simply focus on that item then
press CTRL numpad slash and jaws will say: To drag and drop place the
jaws or pc curser in the dropped location and press CTRL numpad slash.
After jaws says that, I tapped my left or right arrow key until I got
to internet explorer which for me I know is the first item on the
taskbar, then I pressed the above keystroke again and it worked for
 me.
Now what was item 9 is now item 1. When I dragged and dropped my 9th
item over to the first item, the first item became the second item on
 the taskbar.

 Hi All,

Recently I've begun having a problem with my keyboard during remote access
sessions. I am remoting into my work computer when suddenly (usually when
the computer has locked due to inactivity) the keyboard stops functioning.
When I press any key Jaws reports what that key does like up arrow, space,
tab or enter, but does not perform the function. The only way to regain
keyboard control is by rebooting the computer with a press of the on/off
 button.

I used to see this problem in earlier releases of jaws, but it disappeared
and has stayed gone for quite a while. Is anyone else seeing this weirdness?
Any idea what might be the cause?

 Thanks,
 Kimber

Yes, I am noticing the same problem, more over I am noticing that some
times, jaws stop talking, and is not way to know what is going on on
the screen. After 1 or 2 minutes, jaws come back, but it is not
restarting, it is still running, but just stop working for a few
minutes. I just paid for a license of jaws professional, and this jaws
is working worse than jaws 15, or the older versions, for example jaws
 14. This problem is happening on windows 7, windows 8, home or
 professional edition.

[JAWS-Users] Unable to locate an attachment in outlook 13

2015-04-16 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Despite my subject line, this issue occurs in both outlook 2010 and 2013 so ...

There are times when I receive an email with an attachment, but no
matter what I do I am unable to either find or locate that attachment.
Most of the time I have no problem with attachments, either finding or
opening them. But it seems that from certain coworkers I have the
problem all the time. Does this have to do with how they are making
the attachment? Or something else?

It's incredibly frustrating for both me and the person who sends me
the attachments because I can't tell them why their attachments are
inaccessible. Has anyone else seen this? And more to the point, can
you explain why this happens and how to remedy it?

Thanks,
