I forget who first asked about combining multiple text files, no matter
there are several methods to accomplish this task.

The first and probably the easiest would simply be to use notepad.
Just paste the contents of each file in to the same blank document and
 give it a new name.

The second that comes to mind is employing a method known as
 concatenating multiple files.

This is a command line argument from the old DOS days that still works
in windows 7. Place your files in a location by themselves first of
all. Then navigate to the command prompt by typing CMD in to the run
dialog. Change your prompt to the location where your files are
located for example the root directory of your data drive by typing
this command D: and hitting enter. Then at that point typing CD\
then hitting enter and typing at that point the following command:

 copy *.txt filename.txt

That will place all of your files in alphabetic order in to a single
text file. Remember to always hit enter after every command.

My guess is you'll probably select the first method but I thought I
would give you a couple of alternatives.

The mobile google voice site is also very good to exicute a lot of tasks and

if you're not afraid of making use of the Jaws cursor and whatnot a bit. I

This is the way I had to do it all 3 times I got a number. Oh, and if doing

Hello,

I am attempting to use what is essentially a SharePoint form. I have no
problem going through most of the form, using radio buttons, check boxes,
and simple edit boxes. However, there are certain boxes that are multi-line
edit boxes. When I tab into them, no label is announced, but I hear rich
text edit box. I can type into the box no problem, but I can't seem to
close the edit box. Hitting the plus key just says PC cursor, instead of
closing the edit box and reverting to the virtual cursor.

The only way to get out of it is to tab, but in one section of this form,
that just tabs me to the next rich text edit box, and since there is no
label associated with the edit box, I don't know what box I am in.

If I can close the edit box, go back to the virtual cursor, I can arrow down
the screen, hearing the heading that states the purpose of the next edit
box, then press e, and vwa la I am in the next box.

So, is there some magic key that I am missing that closes a multi-line edit
box?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about what email client to use for windows 7 or 8?

2012-09-06 Thread Norman King
Hi.
I think windows 8 has a built in mail client but I don't know how accessible
it's going to be.
As for windows 7 you have a couple of options.
If you buy Microsoft office you can use outlook.
That is what I use.
There are also a couple of others like thunderbird or windows live mail.

I heard windows mail is not on windows 7 machines. I heard windows 8 is the
next release as I might upgrade next year from vista to windows 7 or 8. What
email client works with these two and are they accessible? Thanks in

This is going to be one of FS's challenges going forward. Windows dropped the
ball on not making their mobile platform accessible and with the trend of touch
screen devices, other accessible solutions are way ahead. I'd like to see
Windows based devices be it phones or tablets have accessibility, with what
would the additional cost entail? Whose going to shell out an extra chunk of
change for accessibility when the i-devices have it incorperated at no extra
charge? Even Code Factory's Mobile Accessibility for Android isn't esential
to having a decent Android tablet experience. One can only assume too that
going forward, accessibility will just get better on these platforms.

I'm sure FS has thought of all this and it would only make sense that they're
coming up with ways to adapt and try to tap into this market. If they're able
to somehow bridge an accessible tablet experience with real substantive
accessibility for Microsoft's Office programs and other nuts and bolts type of
stufffor people who would like to use these devices for work and not just
recreational use, then maybe something like that could gain real traction.

It's all speculation anyway until Windows based tablets start hitting the
markets and we see what if any accessibility is included.

I'm using Jaws 13 latest build on Windows 7 64 bit. I will be reading a web
page and suddenly for no reason, jaws will stop reading. No matter what I do
it says blank when I try to navigate around the web page using arrows. When
I hit tab or shift tab, it says nothing, yet I know the page is still on the
screen. The only way I've found to fix this is to try and restart jaws, and
if that don't work, restart the computer. Has anyone else had this problem
and if so, how did you fix it?

I too have seen this behavior. When I see it it occurs when I am cursoring
down a list of emails. The screen shows so many emails at a time. When I
get to the bottom of that list and outlook has to scroll the list down to
show more emails is when I hit the point where Jaws does not read the next

I believe this is a failing in Jaws recognizing that the current line of
screen data has changed.

One more item for FS to fix.

Hello there;
Well, here's one thing I've done in Outlook 2010 which has helped a lot.

1, while in outlook;
Alt+v=view,

2, tab until you hear;
Reading pane button drop down press enter or the spacebar.
Note, you need to have the reading pane set to top or bottom to make the
following change,

3, tab to options press enter,
Now tab and uncheck the box which reads; Mark item as read when selection
changes Tab okay press enter.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I too have seen this behavior. When I see it it occurs when I am cursoring
down a list of emails. The screen shows so many emails at a time. When I
get to the bottom of that list and outlook has to scroll the list down to
show more emails is when I hit the point where Jaws does not read the next
email header.

I believe this is a failing in Jaws recognizing that the current line of
screen data has changed.

One more item for FS to fix.

Hi,

I have started trying to use outlook 2010 with Jaws 13.

My problem is this. When I look at the emails in the inbox I can see them
fine. However, if I move to another folder and try to look at the emails
there it still just shows me the emails from the inbox.

Using Jaws how do I get it to show the emails that are really stored in each
folder?

Thanks.

One way to do this is to press the alt key followed by the number 1 twice
quickly in an open email and right click on the person's name or email
address and arrow down to add to outlook contacts.
The contact form will open and tab through to verify the information or add
additional info and press alt s to save it.

Sherri, if you are going to the FS website and download the jaws 12 file
from there... One is there is choices of 32 or 64 and just listen carefully
in the one you are down loading.. If you are already pro it will know and
down load pro but if you are up grading to pro, you need to speak to them
that is more of a cost than the standard Jaws.. Your key in place will know
and let you know when you install.
For me I just down load what Jaws I want and then place in my Freedom
Scientific Folder and run from there. I keep only two copies of Jaws.. to
which too is where I run my repairs from too. Geno

that control what labels (like UNRD) are spoken. So the best you can do

Hi.
You have to have the exact version you are already running.
Alternatively you could reinstall it.
You won't have to reenter your key.

Hi.
Make a backup of your default.jss file before you put the scripts in.
Then you can modify the file if you break something just replace it with

I am drawing a blank here. I know that a while ago we discovered that you
should no longer put any personalizations in the default script file.
What I don't remember is where do I put a script that I want available

Hi.
I just had pretty much the same thing this week.
I called freedom scientific about it and they told me I have 1 activation
left.
They also said that if I use all my activations they would reset it to 3
more.
So I guess I can put jaws on 3 more computers now because I told them to
reset it after I activated it.
Just call them and tell them what you are trying to do.
I would think you would get the same response as I did.

Perhaps you could contact and explain your situation now and as it will be

Alternatively, you could use something like the free NVDA screen-reader on

 Hi Everyone,

I have an old XP based laptop that is running JAWS 8. I basically
 just use
it as a spare and use it very little, which is why it is still running
 JAWS
 8. On my main system, I am running JAWS 13. I would like to update
 the old
laptop to JAWS 13. Here is my problem. I recall that sometimes but
 not
always, when I have done a JAWS upgrade, I have had to reauthorize. I
 only
have one authorization left and I don't want to waste it on that old
 laptop
because I will probably be getting a new laptop before long and I will
 need
that remaining authorization. Is there any way to know rather
 upgrading the
old laptop will require me to reauthorize? I know that you can get
 your
authorization count reset but I have already done that a couple times
 over
the years and I suspect that there is a limit to how many times that
 they
will do that. Any advice is appreciated.

 Thanks,

Hi.
For me when running jaws with outlook 2007 or 2010 on windows 7 and xp with
jaws 11 and 13 jaws is very slow when reading messages.
Maybe it's because I use the reading pain but I don't like having to press

I just switched to nvda when reading messages most of the time.
It seems a lot more stable in outlook in general.

I have started using Windows 7, I have been having a problem with using alt

to look up something on the net so I alt tab over to Internet Explorer.
Now, I try to alt tab back to Excel but I cannot. Alt tab will only go
between IE and JAWS. So, I use insert F10 to bring up the JAWS window list
and select Excel from there. Now that I have done that, I can again alt tab
between all of the open programs. Is there a setting that I can change to
make it so that all of the open programs are always in the alt tab rotation?
I don't know for sure that Windows 7 is what is causing the problem but I
have used all flavors of Windows back to Windows 3.1 and I have not had this
problem before. I upgraded to JAWS 13 at the same time that I upgraded to

any suggestions.

Re: [JAWS-Users] making a CD

2012-07-05 Thread Norman King
Hi.
To check for windows updates press start.
Go down to all programs and press enter on windows update.
In xp it takes you to the Microsoft website.
Install the active x control.
After it's installed press check for updates.
After a couple of minute you either get a list of options or it tells you if
your computer is up to date.
If it isn't install all the updates.
If you can figure out how don't install the bing bar
If you do I don't think it's a big deal.
Make sure your computer is completely up to date and reboot.
Then try installing the software again.
Let me know if you need any more help.
I can try to help you on skype if you need it.
I will also install the software on my xp computer to see how I make out.
I'll let you know how it goes.

burning software that I can use without using the Jaws cursor a lot.
From what I gathered from the list, the free burning cd software is a
lot easier to use? Am I wrong about this?

I do back up my computer with windows system backup twice a month and I
use Karen's Replicator quite often for my data files. So, that is not a
problem.
The problem is that I don't normally run into a difficulty in

when I do the installation?

Thanks. Take care.

Hi.
One thing you could try is run windows update and check for updates
manually.
Make sure your computer is completely up to date and try installing again.
You can also send me the link for where you got the software and I can do

Hi Normam,

Thanks for your reply. I have burned Cds with other software on my computer
that were successfully installed without any reference to having to install
the hotfix with imapi. I was looking for another burning software that I can
use without using the Jaws cursor a lot.
From what I gathered from the list, the free burning cd software is a lot
easier to use? Am I wrong about this?

I do back up my computer with windows system backup twice a month and I use
Karen's Replicator quite often for my data files. So, that is not a problem.
The problem is that I don't normally run into a difficulty in installing a
software like I have with free CD burner from free studio. So I am hesitant
to do so until I feel confident that all will be okay when I do the
installation?

Thanks. Take care.

As for the hotfix it almost sounds like a windows update.
The reason for the message about closing all applications before
proceeding means that you will probably need to reboot the computer
after you've finished installing.
As for a backup you should always have that.

Hi.
Yes it is.
If you are using jaws 12 or 13.
I think jaws 11 also has a researchit feature but it looks pretty basic.
To get sports scores for the current day.
Open researchit.
Delete whatever is in the edit box.
Press tab once.
Press up or down arrow until you hear mlb scores.
Press enter and you get the virtual viewer with the scores.
To get scores and schedule just type the date you want to know about in the
edit box.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Saying Attachment

2012-06-19 Thread Norman King
Hi.
Jaws also says attachment here.
But when going through the list of messages jaws is very slow.
That is one of my main complaints about it.
Any suggestions to speed it up?

it depends on what is meant here by OCR. It should not be images or pictures
of the text in the file, as that will be unreadable to you (or to us),
requiring conversion to present text by our own OCR program. . perhaps he
should convert it into text, or into Microsoft word format. large PDF's (and
generally very large files to be read) are a problem for us, however we
slice them.

There's also the issue of whether the pdf was made accessibly or not.
(it takes much longer to resove/OCR a poorly formatted pdf.) If people
 are
referring to pages while discussing the pdf, then you can use the Go

Good luck with that, Brad. I don't like the way Adobe handles
 largish
documents, it seems to choke and take forever. You can go into
 preferences
and tell it to only convert portions of the document as you go.

If you have a few Benjamin's lying around, avail yourself of Open
 Book
 or
Kurzweil. You can use the Freedom Import or Kurzweil Virtual Printer
respectively. Just open the .pdf document, issue the print command
 and
select whichever one is applicable as your printer.

The disadvantage to reading docs in Adobe like that, is any table
 conversion
doesn't work all that well. You have to be able to do a bit of
 mental
 interpolation.

First: I've been having an issue when attempting to either save attachments
or attach a document to an email. I tried to save an attachment today and I
wanted it to go to Documents. But windows wouldn't allow me to save it to a
folder with that name. I finally saved it to one of the subfolders I'd
created within it. Can anyone explain how to save an attachment in the
Documents folder? I also have had difficulty retrieving a document to attach
to an email from there.

Second: I would have been quite happy to just read the attachment and was
told I could do this by using insert A. But this hasn't worked. Does anyone
have any other suggestions?

Third: Later, after having had to save the attachment to a folder other than
Documents, I converted an email to a text file and saved it. Usually, it
automatically gets saved in Documents. But it wasn't there. I found it in
the sub folder where I'd previously been forced to save my email attachment.
Obviously, the path was changed. Now, I don't know how to get it back to
where it's supposed to be, saving in Documents.

No I don't want to click an unknown button! I could be agreeing to anything
or downloading some unknown program that will damage my computer.

I just want to be able to find out what it is, with out activating it.

Place the cursor on the button that you want to label, press insert-g,
 type
in the name that you wish to give the button and press enter.

Windows 7 latest version Jaws 13, IE 9. Jaws stopped spontaneously reading
the names of my folders in Outlook email so I wanted to exit Jaws and then
return to it because that usually fixes the problem. But when I go to insert
J and then to Exit and press enter, Jaws does not ask me If I want to quit.
It pays no attention. Any suggestions?

Hi.
If you updated jaws since you installed it from the dvd then you will
probably have to download the version that you are using from freedom
scientific.

I am trying to repair Jaws v13 with my jaws v13 dvd. However, I keep getting
a message that another version of jaws is already installed and I need to go
to add or remove programs and uninstal or configure jaws. I can not get the
menu that says to uninstall, modify or repair. I am using windows seven.
