Dear friend, insert+space is not enough you need to press another key which is
either print screen or f11 key!
So the right command is insirt+space then press print screen or press f11 key.

Hi. A podcast was released last week. In the podcast, Eric Damery
mentioned that the most current update to Jaws 18 would not show up in the
automatic update notification feature. You'll have to go to the website and
download and install the update.

2017-10-11 Thread Eric Damery
This JAWS 18 build is only available from the download page on Freedom
Scientific. You download the full new version and install on your computer. It
will work over the current version or on a computer with no prior version. And
if you don’t have Office 365 and the issue in Outlook, this upgrade is one you
can skip. There will be another update for 18 before the end of year and that
one will have this fix included.

Eric

Interesting, I imagine it depends on how you set your personal options. For
example control alt page up or down and if you include the windows key in there
or not does make a difference.

Either way the settings are save in your own ENU folder assuming you are using
an English version of JAWS. I have no idea of the other languages available.
Thank you for replying.

I don't doubt you, either. I can say only that the few times I was stuck using
JAWS in demo mode, I had to adjust speed and other functions back to my comfort
level each time it reloaded. Perhaps I was using the terms "personal settings,"
as in ENU settings, too loosely. Is that consistent with your experience?
Otherwise, as Eric, you and others have said, JAWS is just about fully
functional in demo mode.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW demo version

2017-03-12 Thread David Ferrin
Interesting, I imagine it depends on how you set your personal options. For
example control alt page up or down and if you include the windows key in
there or not does make a difference.

Either way the settings are save in your own ENU folder assuming you are
using an English version of JAWS. I have no idea of the other languages
available. Thank you for replying.

I don't doubt you, either. I can say only that the few times I was stuck
using JAWS in demo mode, I had to adjust speed and other functions back to
my comfort level each time it reloaded. Perhaps I was using the terms
"personal settings," as in ENU settings, too loosely. Is that consistent
with your experience? Otherwise, as Eric, you and others have said, JAWS is
just about fully functional in demo mode.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW demo version

2017-03-11 Thread Hans Pauli Sundstein

Hi Donna.

If you install a full package of Jaws on a computer, without a licence, Jaws
will run in 40 minute mode every time the computer is rebooted.

Be aware of, that many computers with Windows 10 are set up to only goto
sleep mode when shutdown the computer, and Jaws will therefor not work after
a new start of the computer.
Goto power management to change this, so the computer really shut's down
when selecting this, and get a fresh start of windows, when turning on again
and Jaws will run in 40 minute mode.

Hans Pauli.

internet. I used the JAWS 17 disk I had and it worked. I had to use
Narrator at the beginning which is something I never had to do before but
JAWS 17 is now on my repaired machine. It would not take my authorization
code even though I had it from FS in a previous email exchange. I sent them
a copy of their own message and asked why the authorization key did not
work. I'll have to use 40 minute mode until they help me get the correct

Hello-

I just got my old computer back with a new hard drive. I have Windows 7 on
it so I used my JAWS 16 disk to install. First it brought up a list of
options that my sighted wife had to read to me because there was no speech.
I selected run from media and the install started. It did the install and
required me to select ok to reboot the system. It restarted and there were
clicks and the sound of the disk spinning. Now the computer has gone silent
and there is no speech. In previous disk loads it asks what kind of
features and then for my product code. I am sitting here for 15 minutes and
nothing. My wife came back and said that only the desktop is showing. I
hit the windows key and typed in JAWS but that did nothing. I am sitting
here with a silent computer. This has never happened before. Any ideas?

Any ideas?

Instead of waiting for a replacement disc, you and your wife could download

issue now is what to do next. The computer did shut down and restart so the
files are there somewhere. I did get some voice prompts so the speakers are
functioning. I may have to contact FS support next week. I don't think
that I should insert the disk a second time unless somebody thinks that may
do it.

Any ideas?

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW 16 Incomplete install

2016-08-27 Thread Adrian Spratt
Wayne,

Instead of waiting for a replacement disc, you and your wife could download
JAWS from the FS website and commence installation from that file. At any rate,
I'm pretty sure you don't need to have installed JAWS with a disc the first
time. When my hard disc had to be replaced three months ago, I believe I
started JAWS from the downloaded file.

Are you eligible for JAWS 17, or must you use 16? If locating the download page
is a problem, since you can't operate the PC yourself, post again and I or
someone will get the link.

Hello,

I use Skype with Jaws 17, latest update of both, and it announces
who connects. Don't remember the set-up, perhaps something in
"Options" or perhaps is the version of the scripts from dlee.org
as I use the latest scripts too. I run Win 10.

Hi all,
Can someone please explain what, I should try.
I want skype to give me alerts of the status of people on my
contacts.
I have a win 10 machine and use skype 7 and the scripts from
dlee.org It still doesn't announce any information.
I also installed skype talking, not sure if that is suppose to
work on the win 10 system.
I also use vista on a different box, and have the same skype
settings and it works fine.
Please help I've tried to ask this on a few lists with no
responses.
Maybe I need to clarify more then I have?
Thanks.

I cannot tell you if Skype Talking works just because it was there from
before, all I can say is that I haven't done anything different than to let
Skype update automatically and have updated the dlee.org scripts as they
have become available, I also have Windows 10 on automatic updates and my
Skype announces when someone goes online in Skype.

I think you should try going to the Tools menu with Alt-T then up-arrow to
Options, down-arrow to Sounds and there after tabbing, you need to press the
space bar to select that you want a notification when someone goes online
and offline. Don't know if that has to do with Skype Talking or just with a
sound, but it is worth a try. Again, my Skype announces me when comegone
goes online and I just Win 10 and Jaws 17.

Scorpio,
I actually tried to do the balance for each device. In prior versions of
windows you could affect the balance, but it was for all sound and not
application specific. So far it looks like I'm going to check out the
Plantronics headset mentioned in another email. Would be great if the headset
came in Bluetooth.

My apologies for my last post, as I gave incorrect information regarding moving

possible, and my only explanation for thinking this could be done was that I
was listening to a podcast on Winamp, and I could change the channels on that

I use a Plantronics headset specifically designed for this need. Left side is

I did that with a piece of custom hardware when I was working. One of the
field engineers made a splitter box for me. It had two inputs on one side
and one output on the other side. The box was a plastic box about a little
smaller than a cigarette package. Inside the wires from the sound card went
to one side of the stereo jack for the headphones. The phone wires went to
the other side along with the transceiver for the mike. At the time the cost
was about $9 for the parts. If you know any ham radio operators they should
be able to make one for you very easy. Also some of your computer support
technicians may also be able to make the box. I retired in 1999 and about 2
years ago while cleaning up I tossed it. I had not needed it since I retired
and then a few weeks ago I really could have used it when on the phone with

How would that work if the phone at some places is through a software phone
that's on the computer? A second sound card hooked to USB would probably be
what you want then, but since this one, at least the one I talked to
Plantronics about, only supports certain desk phones, appears to not be
usable in that case. Another guy called me back and said that it might work,
but the amplifier might not be compatible and that could make the mic either
mute or very low to the caller. Since this thing is a custom order item, how
would one be sure it would work adequately since there are likely no
returns? I don't want to waste VR's money to find out when I get a first
call that they hear nothing.

That would probably work. This Dell laptop I'm having so much trouble with,
when you try to do that, controls the system volume when you change the
volume in the mixer for the Jaws listing in there, so one couldn't likely
turn the phone up and Jaws down either. That might be a nuance of that
particular machine, or FS might only allow system volume and nothing else.

There's also the option of getting your employer to purchase a single ear
headset with an ear loop, instead of an actual headband, that way you can
have Jaws flowing out of one ear, and the phone call from another ear,
using a separate headset on each ear.

These are available pretty much anywhere, Best Buy, Staples,
Wal-Mart/Amazon, etc..

You can also employ a second sound card through which you can filter Jaws,
while the phone call comes through the main sound card, that sort of
thing.

Unfortunately, there are so many options for doing this, but none that
will allow you to use the same sound card, as that is undoable, unless you
go into the volume mixer, and move each sound to the left and right ear.

For example, opening the sound mixer will give you the ability to move
Jaws sounds to the right ear, while allowing you to move the main sound,
or what ever application you use for the phone calls to move to the
opposite ear.

Just thinking out loud here, but I think this would be the most effective
and most inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

Scorpio

Sounds nice, but I'm using a soft phone where you use a USB headset to take
calls. However, I've found a way to configure both Sysco IP communicator and
the default audio device via sound settings so both Jaws and phone calls come
out of the same headset. Of course there is the issue, it only has one earphone
and I'm not able to hear a person talk and listen to jaws in the same ear at
the same time. I might be able to manage this if I could at least put the call
to one ear on a stereo headset. However, I can't make a case for work to
purchase a stereo headset if I can't make it work. Right now I just wear a
headset in one ear and ear buds in the other ear. I do not like this
arrangement, but it's better than nothing.

When I work from home, I do not have a traditional phone to use. I must take
all work calls through the IP software phone.

Thanks,
Jason

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW and balance of sound for headsets

2015-11-19 Thread Scorpio Forever
There's also the option of getting your employer to purchase a single ear
headset with an ear loop, instead of an actual headband, that way you can
have Jaws flowing out of one ear, and the phone call from another ear, using
a separate headset on each ear.

These are available pretty much anywhere, Best Buy, Staples,
Wal-Mart/Amazon, etc..

You can also employ a second sound card through which you can filter Jaws,
while the phone call comes through the main sound card, that sort of thing.

Unfortunately, there are so many options for doing this, but none that will
allow you to use the same sound card, as that is undoable, unless you go
into the volume mixer, and move each sound to the left and right ear.

For example, opening the sound mixer will give you the ability to move Jaws
sounds to the right ear, while allowing you to move the main sound, or what
ever application you use for the phone calls to move to the opposite ear.

Just thinking out loud here, but I think this would be the most effective
and most inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a way to force jaws to only play in the left or
right channel? I use a headset at work for calls and I would like it if I
could set at least jaws to only come to one ear and then I can set the phone
calls to be heard in the other ear. I have a very hard time listening to
jaws and the phone through the same ear.

Thanks,

My apologies for my last post, as I gave incorrect information regarding
moving the sound from the dual channel to the single one. It would seem
this is not possible, and my only explanation for thinking this could be
done was that I was listening to a podcast on Winamp, and I could change the
channels on that application.

Anyway, I am sorry for the misinformation.

I use a Plantronics headset specifically designed for this need. Left side

I did that with a piece of custom hardware when I was working. One of the

and one output on the other side.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JFW and balance of sound for headsets

2015-11-19 Thread Rose Combs
I worked for 26 years after having surgery for a tumor in left ear, with
reconstruction so I can hear some. I was a medical transcriptionist and I
tried many things to put JAWS to my left ear so I could hear and my
dictation on the right. Nothing was overly successful and required two
headphones at once which was uncomfortable. The only thing that did not was
trying an audible mixer, however, I got a lot of static and hum, only wore
one set but it was clunky and after a couple of days I went back to having
Jaws often blast me out if the dictation was low volume. I was annoyed by
it, often got headaches due to it but I stayed in the job until outsourced
in March this year. I even went to outsourced company but there I had more
than just volume problems, everything they tried to assure me worked may
have somewhat or not at all and the rest is history ... retired, bored, but
not ready to jump into the medical transcription field at this point because
every platform, 90% of the other activities such as payroll, filling in
needed forms, being docked test scores on HIPA because they had images one
needed to select and no way of knowing what they were, having to call third
cousin to get into TeamViewer to assist me on more than one occasion in a
six week period left me emotionally and physically ill.
Husband passed in May 2014, received outsource plan in November 2014,
struggled with getting applications and other issues with pre-employment
solved with minimal assistance and on their time, not mine, then six weeks
of always being found wanting because aspect of software just did not work
put me in a very bad place. Anyone who has had a pile-up in a several month
period should understand.

So, I wish there was a successful way to use one headphone set and keep Jaws
to one side at a volume needed not to distract but be there when needed did
exist. However, I had one device that I had to hook two different earphones
in, both of which needed their own volume controls, worked except for
wearing two earphone at the same time for a while, until the headaches
became truly unbearable.
Inventors out there Dream up something with one headset, not too heavy,
noise canceling with ability to control different items at their own volumes
and ear and you could probably have several customers, not me so much now
that I retired earlier than my original plan, but there are others who could
use such a device, not Gerry rigged, packaged nicely internal mechanics,
digitalization etc. to work with cord in back to plug in or connect to
battery, plug in front for one earphone plug and maybe buttons or knobs for
control of sides, volume, maybe tone for each side and I know some MTs who
would jump for it. Keep price down, of course.
Takers? Not me, I know nothing about electronics other than to plug in,
connect and turn on, LOL.

2015-06-09 Thread Boston, Jason (RIS-OKC)
I have a new laptop at work and they use LYNC 2013 for messaging. Does anyone
have suggestions on the best way to set it up so it's as speech friendly as
possible?

Also, are there any scripts out there for this software?

Thanks,
Jason

Hello,

If this is what I think it is, there's nothing wrong with your
version of Firefox. . I have Version 34, and this has happened to me
in the past as well. From what I remember when the list helped me, the
issue has to do with Full Screen Mode or something like it. The key
command to fix this is either F11 or Control F11. I would start by
trying those keystrokes while on a webpage in Firefox, and maybe
others on here have a better explanation or other ideas as well.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JFW 16 crashing with DuckDuckGo

Hello list,

An odd behavior I’ve been experiencing with JFW 16.

In Firefox, I have DuckDuckGo as my default search engine. When I want to
search for something, I’ll open up the search edit box (control+e) and type
in my search term. I’ll then be taken to DuckDuckGo’s webpage with the
search results, but then either Jaws will crash right away or right after I
press “h” to jump to the first heading. So far, the improved recovery
feature in JFW 16 has worked flawlessly and Jaws does come back every single
time, but still… After Jaws comes back, I have no problem moving around the
DuckDuckGo results webpage.

Also, if I do the exact same search with a different engine, be it Google,
Bing, etc. I don’t’ have this crashing problem.

I’m using Firefox 33.0.2.

Is anyone else dealing with this issue?

[JAWS-Users] JFW 16 and tables

2014-11-14 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

With Jaws 16, I am finding that the table interaction is a much more tedious
one than with prior versions of JFW in that Jaws 16 treats many more
elements on a webpage or HTMl formatted email like a table. Thus, one has to
press the navigation key “T” a whole lot more times to get to the same place
where maybe one or two times would accomplish the same.

That and now, there seems to be a blank space between every line of text
when arrowing up and down. This wasn’t the case before.

I’m doubting it, but does anyone know of any settings to make JFW treat
tables as in JFW 15 and earlier?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] JFW question

2014-11-09 Thread Matt From Florida
I was just wondering in the new JfW16 they are now doing what I call home
use SMA . It is cheaper than the commercial SMA.So how is it going to know
if you are using a work computer or not? It seems to me it would be hard for
it to tell. Especially if you use a dongle. Unless they are going to invade
your privacy .I just wonder wouldn't it have been better to just lower the
overall cost to any individual buying it to the 125 bucks and if a company
or organization is getting it then the cost could be more. But I would think
just lower the cost to say 175 bucks for everyone . But enough of the ramp
does anyone know how it is going to know what computer you are using?

Hi,
Sometimes the iBank upgrades there page and if you are trying to log in to
an old log in screen, you will have a hard time logging in, you should get a
message telling you something, or to upgrade.
If, you have it saved in your favorites, delete it and re-do it again.
Sometimes it's easier just to type the bank's website in the search bar and
get to the log in edit .

One solution for running Malware Bytes is to schedule the scans when your
machine is up and running.

Several times, I opened the Malware Bytes application and navigated around
the window. Later I discovered the program was running scans when I was in
the window; however, I don't know what I did to cause this event to occur.
You may have to have some sighted assistance to schedule scans; I don't
remember if I was able to schedule them independently. Try using the OCR
function in JAWS when you find instances of no text being read by JAWS.
