RE: [LegacyUG] Uninstalling Legacy 7.5

2013-12-13 Thread Judith
Sherry, Thank you for responding. I now have Legacy8 and would just like to
uninstall Legacy 7.5. As mentioned, the start menu does not have any
subfolders under the Legacy program folder, so no uninstall link is there. In
c:Legacy folder on my hard drive, I have tried the uninstall and get the
message ‘INSTALL.LOG.FILE.missing. I went through the instructions on-line at
Legacyfamilytree. There is an uninstaller I can download from another source,
I was hoping there was a solution from Legacy.

RE: [LegacyUG] Spacation Problem [was Re: LEGACY Digest, Vol 8, Issue 65]

2013-12-13 Thread Kurt Kneeland
It appears that the extra spaces are evenly spaced, every 75th character,
except the first one and I suspect you may have left of some leading spaces,
perhaps even on a preceding line.

So what you need is a function that will change the space at position 75, 150,
etc to a unique character such as a # or a ~. Then a standard search and
replace could be used to remove those characters.

I don’t know of anything within Legacy to do that first step. Perhaps LTools
has developed a function to do this or perhaps it could be requested of them.

A Spacation Repair Tool, with a selectable spacing (yours is 75, others might
be different) shouldn’t be too hard for someone with the necessary knowledge
and tools (eg Microsoft Access).

RE: [LegacyUG] Still Trouble downloading geo database

2013-12-13 Thread Brett & Michelle Watson
Hi Pam,

I have the same issue and have logged a support problem report on Dec 4 without
a response as yet.

I’ve tried all that you have done plus Re installed Legacy 8 to the latest
build, re installed Geo Database multiple times, removed all other traces of
Legacy V 7, started from scratch with different family files and a new family
file, tried doing everything in Windows Administrator mode but I still get “The
Geo Database cannot be found. Click Ok to download…” I’m on Windows 7 with the
latest updates installed, plus no errors encountered when installing Legacy or
the Geo Database.

I’m getting very frustrated as I used the Geo Databases extensively in V7.5
plus I haven’t had a response from support apart from automated emails to my
original problem report and my subsequent “Please give me an update” emails.

As soon as I hear anything or figure it out I’ll pass it on. I’ve had over 25
years supporting and managing PCs and technology in general, but this is really
annoying me. J

I must be missing something here.. ?? The “installation” still doesn’t work for
me, I’ve tried it several times; tried deleting all the old tries, starting
over, clicking on the blue download “exe” title, I get the “wise wizard
installation process”; I see all the files going through as it’s processing,
and asks me to select Destination directory, which it lists as under
Legacy\Geobase, but then it tells me “this directory already exists”…it will
only let me continue if I press the yes button confirming the same directory,
and then proceeds to “successfully” install, the first “clean” time(after I’ve
deleted the excess downloads), but any subsequent tries tell me that it’s not
downloading correctly. Yesterday, when I first tried also to download the most
recent build, I got the same error message, but tonight that download worked
ok. Now, I don’t even see the new geo listed under folders on the download
drive only the older v 7 one, and when I click on the v 8 geo button in family
view, it says database can’t be found, that I need to download the region files
I’m interested in… what am I missing?The geo w/ v 7 works. I have both v 8
and v 7 installed on my machine currently. Do I need to uninstall something
and start over?

Thanks for patience with my limited tech thinking. . .??!! Pam

Thanks all for trying to help.. .yes, I have run the “installer” and I get a
message that it’s “been successfully” installed.

But there seems to be a problem, and now tonight, after 2-3 x trying again, I
get a message that says it “may not” have been successfully installed, AFTER it
says yes it was successfully installed. Could it be conflicting with the 7.5

I still have loaded on the computer? I am still using my v. 7.5, only trying
out 1 family line in v 8 to test out how it all works first before I switch
over to v. 8. Here are some folder ID’s if this helps:

The newly downloaded version shows up (all 3 x) under the “downloads” folder,
not in the folder with the other Legacy application, if that makes a
difference? The installer states it will be downloaded in C;/legacy/Geo.

When I go to do a search for it, all the computer ID’s/finds is what looks like
the older original install of v 7 because in its properties, the last modified
date of that particular geo DB file is listed as 2011, when I first started
using Legacy. THAT particular geoDB is located under the “Legacy” folder, with
subfolders such as “data”, “colors”, etc, but the modified dates on all those
folders are mixed, some from the last 2 days, and some from 2011, if that makes
a difference? I thought that v 7 and v 8 were to go into different locations?
But then maybe I’m not understanding enough of how that works…I have made some
customization changes and data changes in the last 2 days in both the v 7 and v
8 family files, if that makes any difference.

So, is there a conflict here with how it’s loading? Or loading to wrong folder?
Or.. .??? Thanks again

For any help. . . Pam

[LegacyUG] Fwd: Legacy V8 - Media Hanging

2013-12-13 Thread 2marion wimps
Unless someone can beat Support I am probably going to have to go back to
V7.5.

Support have looked at my problem and despite attempts have been unable to
fix the problem.

I have some files where trying to open the Media from the Media Gallery is
proving a major problem. It is only the people with a larger amount of
photos - I can possibly open one person with their photos, but if I go to a
second person or a third the Media Gallery just hangs and the only way to
stop it is to close the whole programme down.

Support has looked at my file and thought they had fixed it - we have
checked the CPU and used Legacy with no other programmes open but the
problems still remains - and is very frustrating.

I was just wondering if there was any other user out there who is having a
similar sort of problem?

I'm sure we've been told before that Mantis is the bug-tracking program
used by the Legacy team.

A Google search on that term quickly brings up a result that appears to
be relevant - http://www.mantisbt.org/

RE: [LegacyUG] Still Trouble downloading geo database

2013-12-13 Thread Goslings

Thanks for patience with my limited tech thinking. . .??!! Pam

Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Trouble downloading geo database

For any help. . . Pam

After you downloaded the installer for the database, did you actually run the
'LegacyGeoDBSetup.exe' to install it.

RE: [LegacyUG] Export to new Legacy family file, error or bug?

2013-12-13 Thread Dave
Jim,

Exporting all records to a new Legacy file gets an error 3021.
Exporting to a Gedcom file goes OK.Re-importing that Gedcom goes fine until
it starts creating the Family File and then stops with an error 3021.

Try the export steps.

Re: [LegacyUG] New Source Detail Not Being Created (Legacy 8)

2013-12-13 Thread Brian/Support
1. You can open the clipboard and set up the source and details there
without copying from an existing entry. This is the method Geoff uses in
all his watch Geoff live webinares. Once you have it on the clipboard
you can paste.

2. You can temporarily add the source to an event which has no sources
(that works), copy that source to the clipboard, paste it to the correct
event which has an existing source (This is the bug that need to be
fixed, you cannot add a new source using the normal method to one which
has an existing source) then remove the source from the temporary event.

[LegacyUG] Gedcom import fails with error 3021

2013-12-13 Thread Kirsty M. Haining
I'm having trouble importing a gedcom (in 5.51 format) into a new file in
Legacy version 8. After it goes through reading the gedcom, it asks about an
autosource, and then it gives me a 3021 error (even though this is a completely
new Legacy file, with no previous records that could have been corrupted). It
asks if I want to try again, it fails. If I say no, don't try again, it says
do I want to try an gedcom import again.. if I say yes, it says "gedcom import
cancelled by user." Whatever options I try, it fails to import the gedcom file.

I had a similar problem back in version 7.5, but I was able to get around it
then.  Sometimes just exiting Legacy and reopening would solve the problem;
sometimes the problem seemed to be that there WERE no previous sources. So if
I created a dummy record and added a source or two, then the program was happy
and it could do the import. Now it just fails, regardless.

Help, anyone?

Thanks,
Kirsty Haining
Seattle, WA

P.S. It just failed again... the exact error message is:
Error saving Source.
Error 3021: No current record.
(Note the cause of this error is often fixed by doing File > File Maintenance >
Check/Repair... on the family file.)
Would you like to TRY IT AGAIN?

P.P.S. I just tried again after changing my file options to NOT ask for an
autosource, but it didn't make any difference. It still failed.

Dave,

I have helped other with this problem. I have done a number of things to fix
the persistent error 3021 abd error 91 problem:

1. File Maintenance > List Cleanup
2. File Maintenance > Check Repair
3. Export all the records to a new Legacy file.
4. Export all the records to a GEDCOM file and re-import it as a new family

5. Open the family file in MS Access and run Compact and Repair.

The strange thing is that I share my file via skydrive with my laptop running

This is a known problem with Build 361 that

What Brian meant was that you enter it into the clipboard and then paste
what's in the Source Clipboard to your event.

2013-12-13 Thread Richard Van Wasshnova
When I try to export to Legacy family file either complete or just s few

I did File Maint twice before trying so that shouldn't be problem.

Is it my file or the program?

Re: [LegacyUG] New Sourcewriter - Source Clipboard set up

2013-12-13 Thread Brian/Support
What Tabs do you mean. I just visited the Detail Information,
Text/Comments, Media and Overrides tab in the clipboard. There was no
need to save and no data was lost from any tab by changing to the others.

Are you using the new option to have multiple sources on the clipboard?
I had mine set to only use one but have also tested the option to have 5
sources. Again using the different source 1, 2 etc. tabs did no lose
information nor did it cause any error.

I suggest you report this to supp...@legacyfamilytree.com so one of the
techs can work with you. In your report be sure to fully document your
clipboard options, the template(s) you are using to enter data and all
the details, including any error numbers for the crash.

[LegacyUG] New Sourcewriter - Source Clipboard set up

2013-12-13 Thread Pat Jones
Not sure if this is a bug, a suggestion, or if I have a problem!

New Sourcewriter - Source Clipboard set up
1. When moving between tabs to add information, it appears each time I must
click "save" which saves the information and returns me to the Individual's
Information Screen.
2. Then I must click on the triangle on the left side of that screen to get
back to the Source Clipboard.
3. Not saving means (in my case) not only is the information NOT saved but
the whole program crashes.

Running W8.1 with Start8 (small program that gives me back the W7
appearance) fully updated

Re: [LegacyUG] links in research guidance no working

2013-12-13 Thread David Newton
The link goes to a page on the British Origins website which,
presumably, no longer exists. I have checked out their collections list
and Boyd's Marriage Index does not seem to be on it.

[LegacyUG] links in research guidance no working

2013-12-13 Thread Kim Jones
Hi,
Hope this is where I come to find out if the links in the research
guidance are still supposed to work.
Was doing some checking out at research guidance on the Legacy 8 program
and found that a link on the suggested sources on the Goal: Birth tab
for Boyd;s Marriage Index, 1538-1840 has a link that cannot be found!!!
Are links from the program supposed to work or is it just there for looks?

*"Boyd's Marriage Index, 1538-1840: *This index, compiled from copies of
parish marriage registers, Bishop's Transcripts, and marriage licenses,
lists over seven million English marriages peformed from 1538 to 1840 in
over 4,300 different parishes. The index lists the names of the couple,
the parish, and the year of the marriage. Once the index information is
obtained, you can search the original parish registers. It is not
complete. Learn more about this resource by clicking *_here _*"

I clicked and it came up with "404 - File or directory not found. The
resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name
changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Can some one let me know about this please?
Thanks
Kim
