 not Figure, but Paveikslėlis, Not Part I, but Dalis I? And how mus I set
 LyX to handle correctly UTF8 and Lithuanian language?

Try with DocumentSettingsLanguage Lithuanian and without other 
\usepackage{lit...} in the preamble.

The ASCII encoding should work. You might also try with utf8x.



 I have attatched a archive with LyX screenshots due to ilustrate a my

Better attach a LyX file so we can experiment.

You need a layout file or a module. If you are lucky, there is a module
providing this - either in the list of modules at
DocumentSettingsModules or somewhere at wiki.lyx.org.

Otherwise, you need to read the HelpCustomization guide about writing
your own.

Hi all,

I run Lyx 1.6.6.1 under Windows and use Jabref 2.6 to create my *.bib file
for the references I use in Lyx via InsertList/TOCBiBTex Bibliography'.
That all worked fine so far for the last 2 years, gaining insights about
coding in jabref and dabandoning endnote for good on this way so far.

What confuses me these days, is that I cannot recall to have changed
anything relevant from last week to this in my *.bib reference file. I might
have added about 10 more references or deleted a couple.
However, the last times I tried to use my added bibliography in Lyx via
Insert Citation it has been missing all entries in my *.bib file or
jabref library alphabetically onwards from Wi*** to Z.
The number of my references in my library is 1898 (!). Is there a cut-off I
am not aware off?

Information that might be important:
- coding of my library: Cp1252
- BiBTexbibliography style in Lyx: elsarticle-harv

I will cut the bibliography in two shorter lists and save them separately as
*.bib and try to use them together in lyx (a new and my old files) for
starters.
Any other suggestions?

Any help would be highly appreciated (my thesis is due in 4 weeks...yet
again good timing, isn't it?:)).

1) You need the dictionaries for both languages for your spell checker.
2) You have to mark your text according to the correct language.

I cannot provide the HOWTO for (1) at Windows Vista (what's you're using?), 
sorry.

At Mac OS X you may use Native or Hunspell spell checker out of the box.
For Aspell @ macosx you have to install aspell + dictionaries e. g. with 
macports.

On my system have I installed texlive-lang-lithuanian package and I have
on my machine lithuanian.ldf file (It is placed
on /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/lithuanian/lithuanian.ldf , so
told me Synaptic).
I have tried to do this things like set DocumentSettingsLanguage
Lithuanian and without other 
\usepackage{lit...} in the preamble, either to set utf8x. Errors exists.
I can not write Lithuanian texts.
If I use English in settings, I can write this letters - ąčęėįšųūž, LyX
compiles document very well, but Figure is Figure, Part is Part, and I
can not change to right words.
Now I have attached my LyX file : newfile1.lyx with text. Try to set
Lithuanian language and compile.

Either right-click  language (when at least a second language has
already been used in teh docuemnt) or Edit  Text style   custom.

That there is a cutoff is new to me. Does it help if you split your 
bib-file into 2 files and include them both to LyX?
If not, does it help if you are using another citation style file (not 
harvard)?

Respect! 1900s citation in one document is tough. Are you sure anybody 
will/can have a look at so many citations? I mean its the duty of the 
professors reviewing/supervising your thesis to look that the citations 
you made are correct. This already a lot of work for 100 citations. How 
do they do this for more than 1000?

You only need the LaTeX-package lithuanian. And must not have 
installed the package littex!

I have set up a Wiki page explaining how to set up LyX for Lithuanian:

The info there also apply for TeXLive (e.g. on Linux).

It only works if you are using the default encoding in LyX's document 
setting. (This will be the encoding ISO 8859-13). Your problem is that 
you have the LaTeX-package littex installed which overwrites the 
encoding settings. So uninstalling littex and installing lithuanian 
should solve the problem.

No, there's no cutoff. What's probably happening is that you have an 
illegal character in one of your entries, probably the first one that 
doesn't appear, and LyX is aborting the read when it sees it. This is a 
pretty common problem. It often happens when people cut and paste 
material from the web into JabRef and they get a funny quote or 
something in there. If you can manage to launch LyX from a terminal, 
then you will probably see the error message, which may also help. If 
not, you can send me the file privately, and I'll figure it out.



Information that might be important:
- coding of my library: Cp1252

I don't know if that is an issue or not, but, ideally, BibTeX files 
should always be pure ASCII. If you need non-ASCII characters, then use 
the LaTeX equivalent.

help formating to APA 6th edition

Hi

I do not useth LyX extensively or uptodate I have managed fine. However I am
having quite a few difficulties tailoring the APA LyX template to the
requirements of the 6th edition.
I simply do not know how to rule over what is already in place i.e. Running
header should be flush left and not flushright but I cannot get this to move
at all. The same goes with chaning the subheader from italics to bold. I
also have some issues with the citation of the works that automatically
state Available at when it should read Retrieved from is that a problem
due to the builtin apacite perhaps? How do I bypass all of these problems to
get what I want?

I can verify the problem and found the reason: in the latest version if the lithuanian package one 
needs to use the font encoding L7x. and une _must_not_ use the encoding ISO 8859-13 but uft8x.


In the attached file I used this encoding. To change the font encoding, you must open LyX's 
preverences and replace T1 with L7x in the field TeX encoding that you find under Output-LaTeX.

Do you now get a PDF output?

If yes, I'll make utf8x the default encoding for Lithuanian for the next LyX 
release.

(That one need to set the font encoding in the LyX preferences instead of the document settings is a 
bug that will be fixed in the upcoming LyX 2.0.)

All works now fine,LyX compiles text without any errors,and Figure is

L7x is a very non-standard font encoding: The font choice will
be limited to Latin Modern and the PSNFSS fonts.

utf8x loads the unsupported, non-standard ucs package that can lead to
clashes with other packages.

If there are there options to use the latest version of lithuanian with
more standard settings, LyX should use them by default.

 In the attached file I used this encoding. To change the font encoding,
 you must open LyX's preverences and replace T1 with L7x in the
 field TeX encoding that you find under Output-LaTeX. 

Better, replace T1 with L7x,T1, so that T1 is still the default
encoding (for English and other languages that do not change the
font-encoding) and L7x is available for Lithuanian.

We could add preamble code to load the file l7xenc.def if it exists to
the languages file:

  \IfFileExists{l7xenc.def}{\input{l7xenc.def}{}
  
This would declare L7x whenever Lithuanian is used in the document.

Mind, that this line must not be used with XeTeX/LuaTeX.

Untested.

 If yes, I'll make utf8x the default encoding for Lithuanian for the
 next LyX release.

Please don't if it can be avoided. I suggest ASCII instead: LyX will
handle the Unicode-TeX conversion then (and it does a good job at this).

Either right-click  language (when at least a second language has
already been used in teh docuemnt) or Edit  Text style   custom.

Respect! 1900s citation in one document is tough. Are you sure anybody 
will/can have a look at so many citations? I mean its the duty of the 
professors reviewing/supervising your thesis to look that the citations 
you made are correct. This already a lot of work for 100 citations. How 
do they do this for more than 1000?

It only works if you are using the default encoding in LyX's document

you have the LaTeX-package littex installed which overwrites the 
encoding settings. So uninstalling littex and installing lithuanian 
should solve the problem.

No, there's no cutoff. What's probably happening is that you have an 
illegal character in one of your entries, probably the first one that 
doesn't appear, and LyX is aborting the read when it sees it. This is a 
pretty common problem. It often happens when people cut and paste 
material from the web into JabRef and they get a funny quote or 
something in there. If you can manage to launch LyX from a terminal, 
then you will probably see the error message, which may also help. If 
not, you can send me the file privately, and I'll figure it out.



Information that might be important:
- coding of my library: Cp1252

I don't know if that is an issue or not, but, ideally, BibTeX files 
should always be pure ASCII. If you need non-ASCII characters, then use 
the LaTeX equivalent.

help formating to APA 6th edition

I do not useth LyX extensively or uptodate I have managed fine. However I am
having quite a few difficulties tailoring the APA LyX template to the
requirements of the 6th edition.
I simply do not know how to rule over what is already in place i.e. Running
header should be flush left and not flushright but I cannot get this to move
at all. The same goes with chaning the subheader from italics to bold. I
also have some issues with the citation of the works that automatically
state Available at when it should read Retrieved from is that a problem
due to the builtin apacite perhaps? How do I bypass all of these problems to
get what I want?

I can verify the problem and found the reason: in the latest version if the lithuanian package one 
needs to use the font encoding L7x. and une _must_not_ use the encoding ISO 8859-13 but uft8x.


In the attached file I used this encoding. To change the font encoding, you must open LyX's 
preverences and replace T1 with L7x in the field TeX encoding that you find under Output-LaTeX.

Do you now get a PDF output?

If yes, I'll make utf8x the default encoding for Lithuanian for the next LyX 
release.

(That one need to set the font encoding in the LyX preferences instead of the document settings is a 
bug that will be fixed in the upcoming LyX 2.0.)

L7x is a very non-standard font encoding: The font choice will
be limited to Latin Modern and the PSNFSS fonts.

utf8x loads the unsupported, non-standard ucs package that can lead to
clashes with other packages.

If there are there options to use the latest version of lithuanian with
more standard settings, LyX should use them by default.

 In the attached file I used this encoding. To change the font encoding,
 you must open LyX's preverences and replace T1 with L7x in the
 field TeX encoding that you find under Output-LaTeX. 

Better, replace T1 with L7x,T1, so that T1 is still the default
encoding (for English and other languages that do not change the
font-encoding) and L7x is available for Lithuanian.

We could add preamble code to load the file l7xenc.def if it exists to
the languages file:

  \IfFileExists{l7xenc.def}{\input{l7xenc.def}{}
  
This would declare L7x whenever Lithuanian is used in the document.

Mind, that this line must not be used with XeTeX/LuaTeX.

Untested.

 If yes, I'll make utf8x the default encoding for Lithuanian for the

Please don't if it can be avoided. I suggest ASCII instead: LyX will
handle the Unicode-TeX conversion then (and it does a good job at this).

I don't know whether littex helps -- do you mean a Debian/Ubuntu
package or a LaTeX package (littex.sty). LyX relies on the multilingual
"babel" package. You need to have a file "lithuanian.ldf". In Debian,
it comes with both, "littex" and "texlive-lang-lithuanian".

You need a layout file or a module. If you are lucky, there is a module
providing this - either in the list of modules at
Document>Settings>Modules or somewhere at wiki.lyx.org.

I cannot provide the HOWTO for (1) at Windows Vista (what's you're using?), 
sorry.

At Mac OS X you may use "Native" or "Hunspell" spell checker out of the box.
For "Aspell" @ macosx you have to install aspell + dictionaries e. g. with 
macports.

On my system have I installed texlive-lang-lithuanian package and I have
on my machine lithuanian.ldf file (It is placed
on /usr/share/texmf-texlive/tex/latex/lithuanian/lithuanian.ldf , so
told me Synaptic).
I have tried to do this things like set Document>Settings>Language
Lithuanian and without other 
\usepackage{lit...} in the preamble, either to set utf8x. Errors exists.
I can not write Lithuanian texts.
If I use English in settings, I can write this letters - ąčęėįšųūž, LyX
compiles document very well, but Figure is Figure, Part is Part, and I
can not change to right words.
Now I have attached my LyX file : newfile1.lyx with text. Try to set
Lithuanian language and compile.

In the attached file I used this encoding. To change the font encoding, you must open LyX's 
preverences and replace "T1" with "L7x" in the field "TeX encoding" that you find under Output->LaTeX.

Do you now get a PDF output?

If yes, I'll make utf8x the default encoding for Lithuanian for the next LyX 
release.

(That one need to set the font encoding in the LyX preferences instead of the document settings is a 
bug that will be fixed in the upcoming LyX 2.0.)

YES!
All works now fine,LyX compiles text without any errors,and Figure is
now pav.,Part is now Dalis,and so on.

L7x is a very non-standard font encoding: The font choice will
be limited to Latin Modern and the PSNFSS fonts.

utf8x loads the unsupported, non-standard ucs package that can lead to
clashes with other packages.

If there are there options to use the latest version of "lithuanian" with
more standard settings, LyX should use them by default.

Better, replace "T1" with "L7x,T1", so that T1 is still the default
encoding (for English and other languages that do not change the
font-encoding) and L7x is available for Lithuanian.

We could add preamble code to load the file "l7xenc.def" if it exists to
the "languages" file:

  \IfFileExists{l7xenc.def}{\input{l7xenc.def}{}
  
This would declare L7x whenever Lithuanian is used in the document.

Mind, that this line must not be used with XeTeX/LuaTeX.

Please don't if it can be avoided. I suggest "ASCII" instead: LyX will
handle the Unicode->TeX conversion then (and it does a good job at this).
