Re: Resizing objects in the latest version of Keynote
You just need to interact with the text box and move the handlers. By default, VoiceOver scales it, and in this new version, you listen to accurate information regarding the sise, which was not OK in past versions. Also, you can look where in your slide the text box is going to the Disposition formatter. Hope it helps. He had me do an SMC reset (press and hold control+option+shit+power button for 10 seconds, then release and power up normally). Now, Activity monitor reports a more normal situation with VMWare Fusion and battery usage. When the guest os is active, energy usage is high as expected, (around .15 - .20), but when suspended, or shut down, it is in the range of .1 or less. Apple is aware of the problem and supposedly working on the fix. I will simply get in the habit of suspending Windows when not in use. At worst, it only takes 30 seconds to power up windows and get jaws running, so a total shutdown is an option too. Re: Is removing Drm from songs legal?
Hi, iTunes Music used to be labeled as “Protected” when DRM was active and since all music now sold is considered “Purchased” in the iTunes Plus format, it no longer has true DRM protection. There used to be an option in the iTunes Store whereby you could upgrade your existing Store purchases to the iTunes plus format but I’m not positive that is still an option. So, what I’m saying, is that if your music is listed as “protected”, then removing and re-adding is not really a good option for you. Re: Is removing Drm from songs legal?
Hi, iTunes won’t let you convert protected content to MP3. There is a sneaky way of stripping these sorts of DRM that is not really illegal. If you create a playlist of the DRM protected content, then ask iTunes to burn you an audio CD of those songs, the DRM is stripped when the music is converted into the AIFF format on the audio CD. You can then use the music files on that audio CD to create the ring-tone or re-import it to iTunes from the AIFF format present on the CD, re-tag it and it is no longer DRM protected. A lot of work in some respects but it does allow you to create the ring-tones you want while not really breaking the law. I forgot to mention in my last post that the upgrade to iTunes Plus actually cost 50¢ or so per item so it wasn’t always the solution that people wanted. Re: Is There a Slacker Radio equivalent for European listeners?
I hope that helped and that Spotify will suffice. :) I used to love Pandora but the last time I used it, I could not play any song or album on demand. Maybe they have changed their features though. Pandora does put out some good music and they do have a free subscription. You get audio ads when you have the free version though. Basically, in Pandora, you create a station based on a song or artist. Then Pandora uses some cool technology to create a station based on the song or artist you chose. Then you can thumbs down a song if you don't' want to hear it again on that station. You can also skip a song you do not feel like hearing. You only get a limited number of thumbs downs and skips for unpaid subscriptions. Hello everyone, Based on some of the discussions about my query, I logged on to pandora.com, only to encounter a very courteously-worded note stating that, due to licensing restrictions, Pandora was not available in my country. I have a strong feeling that this applies to many, if not all, EU countries. So that leaves Spotify unless, of course, they are subject to the same licensing restrictions. iTunes radio, or whatever they call it, isn't available over here, either. Re: Accessible and Automated OCR Workflow
Nick, Below I will paste a copy of the AppleScript that I use in a Hazel rule that will open a pdf, check to see if it needs to be OCR'd, OCR it if necessary and then move it to another folder to be sorted by other requirements. In PDFPen Pro you can set the preferences to OCR upon opening. I have disabled this as I let my script handle it. Anyway here is the script and if you have any problems feel free to ask. Keith -- Start AppleScript -- set myFile to POSIX path of theFile set theResult to do shell script grep -i 'encoding' quoted form of myFile /dev/null echo 1 || echo 0 if theResult is 0 then tell application PDFpenPro open theFile as alias tell document 1 ocr repeat while performing ocr delay 1 end repeat delay 1 close with saving end tell do shell script afplay ~/Documents/Sounds/itisdone.wav tell application PDFpenPro quit end tell end tell else do shell script afplay ~/Documents/Sounds/dontouch.wav end if -- End AppleScript --- On Mar 11, 2014, at 11:41 PM, Nicholas Parsons mr.nicholas.pars...@gmail.com wrote: HI list, I get tens if not hundreds of scanned documents at work which have not been OCR-ed. However, manually converting each document takes far too much of my time. I've heard much in the mainstream media, particularly from the Mac Power Users podcast, about automating the OCR process. They use PDFPen, Apple Script and Hazel to automatically OCR things. However, I just tried to OCR a document with PDFPen Pro and couldn't even do it manually. The OCR Document button was greyed out, and forcing it with command-option keys didn't seem to work. So, does anyone else have any ideas for how to automate the OCR process? Ideally using ABBYY Fine Reader as that seems to be the most accurate engine I've tested. Many thanks for any ideas. Re: Is There a Slacker Radio equivalent for European listeners?
Hi Mike, You can get access to iTunes Radio in Europe. You just need an iTunes account in the US store. You have to be slightly careful how you associate your mobile devices with it as you might inadvertently lock yourself out of your primary account but it is doable. You could probably access Pandora if you use a proxy server or a VPN. Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.
For most people this is a perfectly reasonable solution until the minor bug is addressed. For a minority with different usage needs or a lower tollerence to imperfection however this is of high importance. If a keyboard or Braille display is used a distance from the I device for example moving to the device every time may be highly irritating and if there is a mobility issue through disability a broken foot etc etc this little bug gains a lot more importance. Regardless write to apple and help it get fixed for the good of us all as a bug is a bug is a bug and full functionalety via brl display or qwerty is the aim and intent. I don't want to have to pull my phone out of my bag on the train to write a message. Is it the end of the world, no but it is a pain. Smile. Danny. Let me try to explain a little more exactly what the problem really is and why it's a big deal to me. 1. Go in to message app. 2. Double tap compose. 3. Now, double tap to choose a contact to add. 4. Now, choose a contact where there is both a home and mobile number and the home number is listed first. 5. Now, double tap on the mobile number. 6. Now, examine the to field. You will notice that the home number is selected. This is the case whether you do this inside message or the contacts app. See what the problem is? Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.
People are inherently lazy. I only use my braille keyboard for typing. I do everything on the touchscreen itself. This is because I know everything will eventually go to touchscreens, so I want to be as comfortable with touchscreen as possible. Most people appear to hope that this will not ultimately be the case, even though every trend and all the research indicates it will be, so people keep trying everything they can to keep things at the haptic comfort levels they have known from the past. The fact is, however, that as of 2011, touchscreen panels have become less expensive to manufacture than static screen panels with separate physical control buttons. The funny thing about your response is, sighted people always pull their phones out of their bags or pockets in order to write a reply. Regardless write to apple and help it get fixed for the good of us all as a bug is a bug is a bug and full functionalety via brl display or qwerty is the aim and intent. Apple Script saving .aiff file
Hi all, I've done this in the past and I can't remember how. It is driving me crazy and googling isn't getting me the correct solution. If I'm creating a script with the say command, using a particular voice, what is the last line in the script to save that as an .aiff file? One reason I'm doing this via Apple script instead of save to iTunes as a spoken track, is I want to use the beep command before the say command. Fingers crossed, someone out there knows exactly what I need. :) Traci -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.
As I have not experienced what you are talking about, I would suggest you take the iPhone to either an Apple Store or mobile carrier store and show them what is going on. That is definitely a strange situation. The steps I would take are: First, reboot the phone by turning it off and then on. Second, hard reboot the phone by holding the home and power buttons for 12 seconds. Third, connect the phone to iTunes and run a repair after creating a secure back-up. Fourth, take the phone to the carrier store. Note that each step is the next level up. Fourth, take the phone to the carrier store. Note that each step is the next level up. Hi, One thing to keep in mind is that messages will refuse to choose a contact option that can't receive a message. Is the mobile number an iPhone? If not, you might check in settings whether or not you have sending sms turned off. If you know that the number in question is an iPhone but the field says mobile, you might need to redo the contact and choose iPhone from the popup rather than mobile if you're just wanting to send an iMessage. Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.
David, I use mbraille so not a problem for me, but I tried putting in the cell number from contacts and it went back to the screen to start typing my text. When I flicked to the left I found her home number instead of the cell number I double tapped on. I looked around the screen, and there were no other numbers. Is it supposed to be under the first phone number like an email or can you tell me where it is, please? I just do not find it. Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.
Hello again, I'm taking everything I suggested back. What fooled me was that I had three options: an iPhone, a home phone, and an email. Messages would allow me to select the iPhone an email, but not the home phone. I can confirm that this bug exists after removing the iPhone number. I think that there are many work-arounds for this and it isn't worth losing any sleep over. What I find most bothersome is the fact that it is very hard to nail down bugs with Apple software due to very strange behavior. I personally find the iBooks situation much more serious. Paste the following into the script: tell application Safari set currentURL to the URL of the current tab of the front window end tell set the clipboard to currentURL 3. Save the file as whatever you want, perhaps copy current URL to clipboard. It will be saved as an Applescript file (.scpt). 4. Run it however you want. Normally you could do say -f input_text_filename.txt -o output_audio.aiff there are lots of other parameters to the say command which you can find by doing a man say in terminal. One reason I'm doing this via Apple script instead of save to iTunes as a spoken track, is I want to use the beep command before the say command.
