Removing an email account

2014-09-02 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
Can I've recently removed an email account I no longer use from the accounts
table in preferences. The weird thing is that the option to send from that
email account still appears in the from field when I send an email.
Is there any way to get rid of this option too?
Thanks for any ideas.

Re: search and replace in Pages

2014-09-02 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jenine,

Using the Find and Change commands

To find a string quickly, consider using not only the target itself, but also
matching the case and any spaces before or after it.
Example: To find chapter headings in a book, hit Cmd-F and type in the string
Chapter . Then navigate left to the Find and Replace options menu button,
click it and ensure that the Match Case option is ticked. Once you have found
the first occurrence, close the Find window with Cmd-w and modify the found
string as you wish, and thereafter use Find Again (Cmd-G) to find subsequent
occurrences.
Note that it is currently impossible to put control characters such as New
Line, Line Break and Tab into a Find/Change command.

Cheers,

Anne

Once you have your spreadsheet open, navigate to the layout area and interact

spreadsheet. I find that when I want to enter new data,, navigating with the
tab key is more reliable.

Stop interacting with the table and again stop interacting with the layout area
in porder to move left to the area where you can format various aspects of your
spreadsheet. When you vo+left arrow from the layout area to the left you will
hear Formatter. Interact with it and you will be able to vo+arrow keys through

Once you are done, stop interacting with the formatter.

For a little bit. It watches the change over a two minute span and from
there it does a rolling estimate of how much longer your battery will
last. Of course if you're burning CDs that estimate is going to be a lot
lower than just reading mail. One nice thing in Mavericks is the battery
menu also tells you which apps, if any, are being a drain on the battery
so you can make informed choices as to what you leave running when
you're not plugged in.

removed the JAWS and Window-Eyes video drivers from the Device

should have uninstalled Freedom Scientific Video Intercept from the
Programs and Features panel in Control Panel, but there is no
guarantee that this would have made any difference. In any case, I was
quite taken aback that this would have totally deactivated JAWS.

Dongles have their fair share of problems too, but are definitely a
little more fail safe. Just a random example of a problem I've
experienced with FS Dongles, if you connect a dongle to a computer too
early (e.g. before JAWS is installed), then install JAWS, the Dongle
will work absolutely fine. However, Windows will offer you a driver
update for the Dongle. If you install that update, the Dongle will
stop working and you'll have a lot of troubleshooting to do before
things start working again. Also of course on something like a Macbook
Pro, if it is a current model, you'll only have one USB port to work
with (given the Dongle will take up the other one). That's rather
unfortunate.

While repairing the Boot Camp support software is not exactly a normal
part of using the computer that most people will have to do, Apple
does roll out updates to the software from time to time which a lot of
users will want to take advantage of. While I don't have first hand
knowledge of this, I suspect those updates will throw off the
activation as well.

Hello all,

I encountered Wi-Fi issues on a late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro while
running

Windows 8.1 professional via Boot Camp. I therefore decided to do some
troubleshooting. Really the only troubleshooting suggestion I could find
apart from erasing my Windows partition and starting from scratch was to
repair the Boot Camp support software. I tried to do this but got errors
saying that the installer could not complete and to try it again at a
later

time.

Upon doing some research, I discovered that at least a few people got
these

errors who had third-party video drivers installed, and therefore the fix
was to temporarily uninstall all third-party video devices, repair
the Boot
Camp installation, then reinstall them. As you probably know, JAWS
does in
fact install a video driver to assist with screen reading, so I
uninstalled

it temporarily and sure enough, this was the fix. The Boot Camp installer
was able to run at that point and repaired the support software.

Unfortunately, it seems that uninstalling the Freedom Scientific Video
Intercept drivers triggered my JAWS activation to be lost. Clearly this
should not have happened, but I've encountered many situations where this
has happened to JAWS over the years for fairly minor system tweaks,
or even

smaller things such as turning off the Wi-Fi switch on a laptop, and
occasionally you can fix the problem by putting things back to the
way they

were. I hoped that reinstalling the Video Intercept drivers would have
re-activated my copy of JAWS, but it did not. This feels like a bug,
and I

think users of JAWS should be aware that if they are going to repair or
update their Boot Camp Support Software, it is likely that they will lose
their activation. Since Apple does post updates to the support
software from

time to time, I think this is something to keep in mind.

On another note my Wi-Fi issues are unfortunately not resolved. Among
other
things, Wi-Fi does not work after the computer sleeps. Windows thinks
that I

am using a separate Wi-Fi adapter (e.g. the label of the adapter changes
from Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi 2, and no connections can be established
until the

computer is rebooted. Also, the connection drops quite frequently--and
again, this only happens while using Windows and not with OS X.

Mmm, that's great in theory, but Windows isn't built for access through APIs
in the same way that OS X and Linux are yet, so you inevitably need one of
the commercial screen readers, for some purpose. So you end up installing
the one screen reader that does everything, either JAWS or Window-Eyes (I'm
fortunate enough to own both).

I hope that Microsoft advances the state of play here, because I really do
want to see a Windows world devoid of the requirement for external screen
reading software. But yeah, you know, that's kind of not going to happen
while Microsoft is studiously avoiding getting hit by sueballs, to our
exclusion.

Re: Navigating in Numbers

2014-09-02 Thread Phil Halton
be aware, that using option + arrow keys will add a row or column to your
spreadsheet table automatically. Whereas command arrows will move you to the
top/left/bottom/right of a column/row. The two are easy to mix up when you're
in a hurry and hitting option + arrows will screw up the column/row count of
yur spreadsheet if you're not careful. in those cases, you can simply delete
the row or column via the context menu.

trouble because I was following specific troubleshooting steps. I
removed the JAWS and Window-Eyes video drivers from the Device
Manager, with intent to repair them later. In retrospect, I suppose I
should have uninstalled Freedom Scientific Video Intercept from the
Programs and Features panel in Control Panel, but there is no
guarantee that this would have made any difference.

Subject: A few issues with Boot Camp, and a heads-up for users of JAWS

I tried to do this but got errors
saying that the installer could not complete and to try it again at a
later
time.

Upon doing some research, I discovered that at least a few people got
these
errors who had third-party video drivers installed, and therefore the
fix
was to temporarily uninstall all third-party video devices, repair
the Boot
Camp installation, then reinstall them. As you probably know, JAWS
does in
fact install a video driver to assist with screen reading, so I
uninstalled
it temporarily and sure enough, this was the fix. The Boot Camp
installer
was able to run at that point and repaired the support software.

Unfortunately, it seems that uninstalling the Freedom Scientific Video
Intercept drivers triggered my JAWS activation to be lost. Clearly this
should not have happened, but I've encountered many situations where
this
has happened to JAWS over the years for fairly minor system tweaks,
or even
smaller things such as turning off the Wi-Fi switch on a laptop, and
occasionally you can fix the problem by putting things back to the
way they
were. I hoped that reinstalling the Video Intercept drivers would have
re-activated my copy of JAWS, but it did not. This feels like a bug,
and I
think users of JAWS should be aware that if they are going to repair or
update their Boot Camp Support Software, it is likely that they will
lose
their activation. Since Apple does post updates to the support
software from
time to time, I think this is something to keep in mind.

On another note my Wi-Fi issues are unfortunately not resolved. Among
other
things, Wi-Fi does not work after the computer sleeps. Windows thinks
that I
am using a separate Wi-Fi adapter (e.g. the label of the adapter
changes
from Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi 2, and no connections can be established
until the
computer is rebooted. Also,

iMessages drive me nuts sometimes!

Hi all,

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a flaw in the concept.

iMessages on Mac iOS don't seem to sync up. If I message people on my Mac,
it opens a second message window on their iDevice. All of their replies go to
my Mac. I think I assumed I could start a conversation on my Mac, then

It's great to message folks via my Mac, but I've found so many replies getting
lost, because friends don't realize or forget there are 2 message windows.

Any suggestions? Is this the way it is designed?

It sounds like you don't have all your devices set p to receive from all your
addresses and numbers. On iOS, go to Settings Messages, and find the place
near the bottom where all the emails and numbers tied to your Apple ID are.
Make sure they are all selected.

On the Mac, go to the Messages app, then Preferences Accounts tab. Select
your iMessages account in the table, select the Settings tab, and find the
table right after you can be reached for iMessages at text. Check everything
you want in there as well.

On both devices, also check that the send as is where you want it. This sets
which email or number is used when you start a new conversation with anyone. It
is in the same place as where you enabled everything in the above steps.

Re: Removing an email account

2014-09-02 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Lisette, yes, interestingly deleting an account in Mail doesn't delete its
SMTP server. You have to do this separately.
Go into mail Preferences, Choose the Accounts tab, and then proceed is if you
were going to edit one of your existing accounts.
As you move through the dialog, you'll eventually come to your SMTP server
list. If you down-arrow through that list, you'll find an option called Edit
SMTP server list. Activate that option, and you'll see your old SMTP server
still in there. Delete it, and this will solve the problem.

2014-09-02 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

I am running a 2013 MBA, with Win 8.1 installed in Bootcamp. The JAWS
version is 15 current build. Right now, I am not having any issues with JAWS
running in Bootcamp, but it seems that when Bootcamp has an upgrade that's
when there may be issues? I have 2 old FS JAWS dongles stashed away in a
safe place. Will these work if I need to switch over to using a Dongle to
run JAWS in Bootcamp? I'm just curious for now.

Thanks.

Dongles have their fair share of problems too, but are definitely a
little more fail safe. Just a random example of a problem I've
experienced with FS Dongles, if you connect a dongle to a computer
too early (e.g. before JAWS is installed), then install JAWS, the
Dongle will work absolutely fine. However, Windows will offer you a
driver update for the Dongle. If you install that update, the Dongle
will stop working and you'll have a lot of troubleshooting to do
before things start working again. Also of course on something like a
Macbook Pro, if it is a current model, you'll only have one USB port

 rather unfortunate.

While repairing the Boot Camp support software is not exactly a

Apple does roll out updates to the software from time to time which a

 Hello all,

I encountered Wi-Fi issues on a late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro while
running Windows 8.1 professional via Boot Camp. I therefore decided
to do some troubleshooting. Really the only troubleshooting
suggestion I could find apart from erasing my Windows partition and
starting from scratch was to repair the Boot Camp support software.
I tried to do this but got errors saying that the installer could
not complete and to try it again at a later time.

Upon doing some research, I discovered that at least a few people
got these errors who had third-party video drivers installed, and
therefore the fix was to temporarily uninstall all third-party video
devices, repair the Boot Camp installation, then reinstall them. As
you probably know, JAWS does in fact install a video driver to
assist with screen reading, so I uninstalled it temporarily and sure
enough, this was the fix. The Boot Camp installer was able to run at
that point and repaired the support software.

Unfortunately, it seems that uninstalling the Freedom Scientific
Video Intercept drivers triggered my JAWS activation to be lost.
Clearly this should not have happened, but I've encountered many
situations where this has happened to JAWS over the years for fairly
minor system tweaks, or even smaller things such as turning off the
 Wi-Fi

Re: A few issues with Boot Camp, and a heads-up for users of JAWS

2014-09-02 Thread Grant Hardy
Hello Eileen:

You have two Dongles? I assume you have two separate licenses of JAWS, then? In
any case, yes, if a Dongle is authorized for JAWS 15, then yes, it should work
without issues.

As for internet activation, there are really no guarantees whether or not
updating the Boot Camp Support Software would deactivate your license of JAWS.
You could try exiting JAWS completely during the upgrade and use another screen
reader, such as NVDA or Narrator. There's also a chance the installation will
be smooth and there'll be no issues. I immediately was told that the installer
couldn't complete, and after researching the problem online I determined that a
few people had given the suggestion of trying to uninstall third party video
software before running the installer. As I said, this did indeed work for me.
Maybe this isn't a normal thing to have to do, though. If other JAWS users have
tried repairing or reinstalling the Boot Camp Support Software, I'd ask them to
chime in and let me know how things went. It's also possible that removing
Freedom Scientific Video Intercept Software from the Programs and Features
section of the Control Panel would work better. In any case, if your JAWS
deactivates, FS should be able to reset it for you but I would recommend
reporting this to them as a bug, which I honestly believe it is.

To respond to some points made by other listers, giving up commercial screen
reading software just isn't an option a lot of us would want to do as I do rely
on some of the power features of JAWS, for example, to make me more efficient.
Two examples that immediately spring to mind are speech and sounds schemes, and
the flexible web feature. Indeed, I feel that with a machine that can run JAWS,
Window-Eyes, NVDA, and VoiceOver, as well as any other screen reader you like,
you have the greatest number of tools in your toolbox to deal with any screen
reading needs that come up.

I would hope though that one day JAWS will embrace the more benign copy
protection models that are used by companies like Microsoft and Apple, which
enforce their EULA but in a much more user friendly way. With Apple for
example, you need only sign in with your Apple ID and password, and you have
access to all your purchases. With Microsoft, you can activate repeatedly on
the same machine and it'll automatically push it through for you. If you change
machines, they have a 24/7 call centre that you can telephone. In any case, I
guess further discussion of this particular point should be taken to a
different list, but I did want to bring this JAWS and Boot Camp issue to
listers' attention.

Cheers,

Grant

apart from erasing my Windows partition and starting from scratch was to

Upon doing some research, I discovered that at least a few people got these

think users of JAWS should be aware that if they are going to repair or

RE: A few issues with Boot Camp, and a heads-up for users of JAWS

2014-09-02 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hi Grant,

I received these Dongles so long ago. So, if I am comprehending you
correctly, the Dongle is authorized specific to JAWS 15. Is that correct?

Thanks. For the clarification.

Hello Eileen:

You have two Dongles? I assume you have two separate licenses of JAWS, then?
In any case, yes, if a Dongle is authorized for JAWS 15, then yes, it should
work without issues.

As for internet activation, there are really no guarantees whether or not
updating the Boot Camp Support Software would deactivate your license of
JAWS. You could try exiting JAWS completely during the upgrade and use
another screen reader, such as NVDA or Narrator. There's also a chance the
installation will be smooth and there'll be no issues. I immediately was
told that the installer couldn't complete, and after researching the problem
online I determined that a few people had given the suggestion of trying to
uninstall third party video software before running the installer. As I
said, this did indeed work for me. Maybe this isn't a normal thing to have
to do, though. If other JAWS users have tried repairing or reinstalling the
Boot Camp Support Software, I'd ask them to chime in and let me know how
things went. It's also possible that removing Freedom Scientific Video
Intercept Software from the Programs and Features section of the Control
Panel would work better. In any case, if your JAWS deactivates, FS should be
able to reset it for you but I would recommend reporting this to them as a
bug, which I honestly believe it is.

To respond to some points made by other listers, giving up commercial screen
reading software just isn't an option a lot of us would want to do as I do
rely on some of the power features of JAWS, for example, to make me more
efficient. Two examples that immediately spring to mind are speech and
sounds schemes, and the flexible web feature. Indeed, I feel that with a
machine that can run JAWS, Window-Eyes, NVDA, and VoiceOver, as well as any
other screen reader you like, you have the greatest number of tools in your
toolbox to deal with any screen reading needs that come up.

If you
change machines, they have a 24/7 call centre that you can telephone. In any
case, I guess further discussion of this particular point should be taken to
a different list, but I did want to bring this JAWS and Boot Camp issue to
listers' attention.

Cheers,

Grant

I tried to do this but got errors
saying that the installer could not complete and to try it again at a
later
time.

Upon doing some research, I discovered that at least a few people got
these
errors who had third-party video drivers installed, and therefore the
fix
was to temporarily uninstall all third-party video devices, repair

2014-09-02 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
The dongle must be authorised for a particular version of JAWS. You can plug
it in and use the Dongle Viewer tool that comes with JAWS to see what version
your dongles authorise now. If you are in need of an update file for your
dongle, contact FS for the file and give them the serial numbers; they should
provide an update for your dongles if the serial numbers are authorised for
JAWS 15. If you have SMAs, those also will be included in your dongle license
files.

Yes, I confirm that BootCamp driver updates are made harder by the need to
remove the video driver. My advice is to do your initial Windows installation
with the latest version of the drivers that are available at the time of the
installation, to minimise your need to do an update later.

that but does anyone know of a way in mail to request a read receipt on an
individual email?

Thanks in advance,

Gabe

be to ask if the mail app has any mechanism for requesting a read receipt on an

Bootcamp Update and Yosemite Release

2014-09-02 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello,

I decided to start a new thread, so I don't get OT with this. Here's my
situation and my concerns that I may need to update the bootcamp drivers in the
future.

Although I have a 2013 MBA, I purchased it before Mavericks was released.
Hence, My OS is ML. I did update and ran the current bootcamp drivers
(confirmed by Apple support) when installing Win 8.0. Now, in a short few
weeks, Yosemite will be launched. Will I need to update the bootcamp drivers at
that point and will I need to reinstall Win 8.1 again? This was a very daunting
task the first time around.

The post now turns to JAWS. I am using the current build of JAWS 15. Where do I
go to find the Dongle viewer tool in JAWS 15? I know that the Dongles that I
have are for earlier versions, but I don't know how far back. Aren't the
license for the Dongles the same as the license number for ones JAWS product? I
know there are many who are using bootcamp on the list, and I just want to
prepare myself for the next release of the OS and not be caught off guard after
I do the update to Yosemite.

Thanks.

Best,
Eileen

VoiceOver pauses at new line characters. Check your text for these. The Mac

Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!

great is your faithfulness.

Hi Mark,

trouble because I was following specific troubleshooting steps. I
removed the JAWS and Window-Eyes video drivers from the Device
Manager, with intent to repair them later. In retrospect, I suppose I
should have uninstalled Freedom Scientific Video Intercept from the
Programs and Features panel in Control Panel, but there is no
guarantee that this would have made any difference.

Subject: A few issues with Boot Camp, and a heads-up for users of JAWS

Hello all,

I encountered Wi-Fi issues on a late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro while
running
Windows 8.1 professional via Boot Camp. I therefore decided to do some
troubleshooting. Really the only troubleshooting suggestion I could
find
apart from erasing my Windows partition and starting from scratch
was to
repair the Boot Camp support software. I tried to do this but got
errors
saying that the installer could not complete and to try it again at a
later

Clearly
this
should not have happened, but I've encountered many situations where
this
has happened to JAWS over the years for fairly minor system tweaks,
or even
smaller things such as turning off the Wi-Fi switch on a laptop, and
occasionally you can fix the problem by putting things back to the
way they
were. I hoped that reinstalling the Video Intercept drivers would have
re-activated my copy of JAWS, but it did not. This feels like a bug,
and I
think users of JAWS should be aware that if they are going to
repair or
update their Boot Camp Support Software, it is likely that they will
lose
their activation. Since Apple does post updates to the support
software from
time to time, I think this is something to keep in mind.

On another note my Wi-Fi issues are unfortunately not resolved.

Re: Bootcamp Update and Yosemite Release

2014-09-02 Thread Grant Hardy
In general when installing an upgrade to Os X, I would see no reason why you
should have to reinstall Windows as long as you aren't using a non-standard
disk partition configuration on your Mac (e.g. you manually modified the
partition configuration after installing Windows via Boot Camp). I don't think
updates to the Support Software are mandatory, either, though sometimes they
provide fixes to possible security issues. In any case, I believe the Dongle
Viewer is located in the JAWS window under the Utilities menu. If your Dongle
requires an update, you'll have to contact Freedom Scientific.. I wouldn't
worry too much if I were you and things are currently working fine. I had to do
some troubleshooting and things didn't go as expected, that's all. It's an
irritant, definitely, but it's not as though you will permanently lose access
to JAWS. If you telephone Freedom Scientific when any issue comes up, I am sure
they will help you put it right. :) While it's obviously important to backup
your data before installing any kind of upgrade, chances are things should go
just fine. Note: I have only installed a minor upgrade to OS X as my computer
came preinstalled with OS X Mavericks, but this information is based on
extensive reading on the Apple Support website. I'm sure others will chime in
if they have different experiences.

All I'll say here is to keep NVDA installed, and make sure you can bring it up.
It won't help you if you have to re-install Windows (and, as Grant said,
there's no reason you would need to do that), but if Jaws gets fussy and quits

Receipts: Requesting, turning on and off, responding to those sent to you

2014-09-02 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Tested and modified in MacOS 10.9 Mavericks: September 2 2014
This still works but you have to do all the steps before you can test it. Also
be aware that it is possible for the return receipt request to be seen before
the actual email, at least when testing it on myself. I've only tested it on
myself and don't know whether or not anybody else has actually used it.

I've been working on this receipts issue and I'll try to lay out what I've
done. I am now able to request receipts, reply to a request for a receipt (only
tested on sending to myself), check to see if requesting receipts is turned on
and off, and turn requesting receipts on and off.

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you accidentally delete already existing
email headers or have other problems with email, terminal or anything else on
your computer or in your life :-) while doing this, though of course I'll be
willing to help troubleshoot if you post problems to the list. This is my first
draft and though I've looked through it for errors, there's certainly the
possibility - the overwhelming probability! - I've made some. So if in doubt,
check things over, ask questions, and do your own research. The links where I
got most of this information are at the bottom of this email, just above my
signature. There are plenty of people on this list who will spot errors and
probably find easier ways to do this. I didn't attempt to include in-depth
instruction about terminal or applescripts. None of what is written here is
original with me.

Mac OS version: These instructions are specifically for Mountain Lion. They may
be used in earlier releases of Mac OS but there will be differences. For
instance, there have been changes in the location of applescript folders in
Mountain Lion.

Before we start, a note about copying and pasting: Be careful to get all the
content as there are apostrophes, braces, semicolons, etc. that really are a
part of the line to be copied and pasted. If you copy a line by doing
shift-down-arrow, this could result in the line being put in terminal and enter
being executed before you have a chance to check the line, so if you want to be
able to check what you've done, highlight from left to right, making sure you
include everything. I know that working with terminal can be a challenge with
voiceover; I have the benefit of a braillelite with brltty in Terminal so if
you have problems, do some research and/or ask for help on the list. Also, I
will be referring to the return/enter key as enter. Those with older Macs may
have both, but it's my understanding that all the newer keyboards now just have
return. But I don't want to have to write return/enter all the time and the
term enter seems to get used more though they are not identical and the key
on most Macs is now really return, so if you have both and one doesn't work,
try the other.

Step 1. Checking for headers:

Since sending receipt requests involves adding something to your email headers,
first you want to check to see whether you presently have any custom headers
and what they are. This is done with one line that you can paste into terminal
and then press enter. The line is:

defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders

Step 2. Enabling request receipts for the first time

Note: it is possible to just wait and do this with the applescripts in Step 3
but it may be better to do it this way the first time to ensure that there are
no problems.

A. If in Step 1 you get something like:
The domain/default pair of (com.apple.mail, UserHeaders) does not exist:
that means you don't have any custom headers. If that is the case, things are
simpler because you have nothing you have to keep from deleting. In that case,
type or paste the following line in terminal, replacing Name with your name and
email.address with your email address:

defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{Disposition-Notification-To =
Name email@address; }'

You shouldn't see any results from this line's entry. You can check to make
sure the Disposition-Notification-To header was added by running the line in
step 1 again. If these are the only lines you have just done in terminal, you
can easily get back up to the first entry from step 1 by arrowing up twice in
terminal. You won't hurt anything if you accidentally do the line from this
step over but you won't see any results.
But I am showing it here again for your convenience also.

defaults read com.apple.mail UserHeaders

You won't have to type or paste to turn this on and off each time as we will be
using apple scripts or other alternatives for that. Skip to step 3 if you
completed 2A successfully.

2B. If the line you entered in Terminal in step 1 gives you something that has
a line with a left brace and the beginning and a right brace at the end, it
means that you do have some custom headers which you may not want to delete in
the process of adding what you need to generate receipt requests. Here's an
example

Re: read receipt

2014-09-02 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
The problem with adding headers and running scripts in response to headers is
that it's not very flexible. You can't respond on a message-by-message basis
to requests, and if you happen to have multiple accounts, you can't send out a
request from the correct one. This point is important, since RFC 2298 says
that a person who receives a request must validate that the return path and
request address match. It really is a hack. And DSN (delivery receipt) is
impossible, because you've got to add parameters to the SMTP commands to make
that work.

What we *really* need is an alternative to Mail.app that supports MDN and DSN.

Hello,

I don't remember the exact size but it is extremely light and minimal. If you
don't ask it to run at the logon screen or after you log in, then I don't think
it installs anything other than a folder in the Program Files directory as well
as a folder for user settings in each user account that runs NVDA. If you don't
run it, it shouldn't take up any system resources other than a negligible
amount of space. Now, this being said, even if you lose your JAWS activation,
JAWS will run in 40-minute demo mode. Still, I agree with Alex that having
multiple screen readers, for troubleshooting purposes, is best.

Camp). I don't think updates to the Support Software are mandatory, either,
though sometimes they provide fixes to possible security issues. In any
case, I believe the Dongle Viewer is located in the JAWS window under the
Utilities menu. If your Dongle requires an update, you'll have to contact
Freedom Scientific.. I wouldn't worry too much if I were you and things are
currently working fine. I had to do some troubleshooting and things didn't
go as expected, that's all. It's an irritant, definitely, but it's not as
though you will permanently lose access to JAWS. If you telephone Freedom
Scientific when any issue comes up, I am sure they will help you put it
right. :) While it's obviously important to backup your data before
installing any kind of upgrade, chances are things should go just fine.
Note: I have only installed a minor upgrade to OS X as my computer came
preinstalled with OS X Mavericks, but this information is based on
extensive reading on the Apple Support website. I'm sure others will chime

2014-09-02 Thread Alex Hall
The installer I downloaded the other day was around 17MB, compared to well over
100MB for Jaws. I don't know how big it expands to be, but yes, it is a very
small size, all things considered.
On Sep 2, 2014, at 7:28 PM, Grant Hardy grantha...@outlook.com wrote:

 Hello,

I don't remember the exact size but it is extremely light and minimal. If you
don't ask it to run at the logon screen or after you log in, then I don't
think it installs anything other than a folder in the Program Files directory
as well as a folder for user settings in each user account that runs NVDA. If
you don't run it, it shouldn't take up any system resources other than a
negligible amount of space. Now, this being said, even if you lose your JAWS
activation, JAWS will run in 40-minute demo mode. Still, I agree with Alex

Hi Grant and Alex,

In that case, I think I can spare the real estate to have it installed on the

of storage on the Win side, but it turned out to be much less. I'm constantly
looking to see how to keep this side lean. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Re: read receipt

2014-09-02 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Actually, this is only partly correct. You can write whatever you want to write
in the email that is presented for you to fill in. You can also have different
return receipt protocols for different email addresses though i haven't tried
to do this. No, it may not be as good as a built-in system - it most definitely
is not - but it can be used. It isn't ideal and I don't dispute its
shortcomings, but I like to think of the glass as half-full as much of the time
as possible instead of as half-empty.

Have you written to Apple (not accessibility as this isn't an accessibility
problem) and made your request? Honestly, I haven't. But if it is that
important to you, then maybe you should do that instead of or in addition to
looking for or hoping for another app, which certainly also is a valid
solution. This wasn't worked out in order to provide an ironclad response to
the need but rather to provide some opportunity to know that emails have been
received. A better solution is most assuredly workable, so go for it and then
let us know what you've found so we can use the best that can be found.

Re: Mac mail problems and frustrations.

2014-09-02 Thread Alex Hall
Yes, the headers work differently, but I've never gotten enter to work reliably
for activating the links there. The OP wanted to reply to just the sender
(off-list), and the best way I've found so far is to reply normally, copy out
the email address from the line right below your new message, then replace the
mailing list address with what you copied. How do you get links to activate
properly in the headers? If doable, that is certainly an easier option.

And Alex when sitting on the link in the message like yours below this open

Just another option!

Permanently erase mail (bypassing the trash)

2014-09-02 Thread Grant Hardy
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to permanently erase a message, or group of
messages, from an IMAP account in the mail app without sending them to the
trash. I've read a couple of articles that suggest simply hitting CMD+X to cut
them to the clipboard, but this seems not to work. Unfortunately, it seems that
with some Email providers, moving messages out of junk, and into trash, is
considered unmarking them as spam.

Thanks in advance,

Grant

Grant, the keystroke you want is command shift delete. I use it all the time
and bypass the trash in that way. You'll have to answer a confirmation dialog
box that pops up, but that's not a difficult task to accomplish. Hope this
helps.

if I want to delete all items in trash and it says something about doing that
in all accounts. Maybe I'm missing something about how and when you are
recommending this action.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
This I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord
never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

Grant, the keystroke you want is command shift delete. I use it all the time
and bypass the trash in that way. You'll have to answer a confirmation dialog
box that pops up, but that's not a difficult task to accomplish. Hope this
 helps.

 Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to permanently erase a message, or group
of messages, from an IMAP account in the mail app without sending them to
the trash. I've read a couple of articles that suggest simply hitting CMD+X
to cut them to the clipboard, but this seems not to work. Unfortunately, it
seems that with some Email providers, moving messages out of junk, and into
trash, is considered unmarking them as spam.

 Thanks in advance,

 Grant

Re: Permanently erase mail (bypassing the trash)

2014-09-02 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Cheryl,

No, that's exactly the message I get. I must tell you however that I only have
one mail account. I'm guessing that it would delete any items in the trash
folders for whatever account you have in your system. But it might be worth
calling Apple to check this out. Again, the message you got is the same when I
get.

VoiceOver pauses at new line characters. Check your text for these. The Mac

using Windows has these extra new line characters all over the place.
