I loved my old Minox! What a special camera that was. When I was in the Marine Corps, I carried it with me at all times, especially in the airplane. Re: OT: Meanwhile at TOP.
No, he's saying he doesn't like that focal length so there's no real reason to make it. Everything else is window dressing. First off, Fuji is producing a very nice system of "retro" cameras. I expect that they will sell enough of that lens to justify manufacturing them. Secondly, well, Mike Johnson. He's just annoying. He's a decent writer, is generally knowledgeable, and when he actually posts a photo he's made, it doesn't hurt the eyes, (unlike Kennyboy), but his opinions are his own, and he often mistakes them for fact, and like Kennyboy he expects to be paid for said opinions. I never used a 135mm in the good ol' days of film, my first real telephoto was a Super Takumar 150mm f4.0. But the e~135mm focal length grows on you. (Like a fungus). Now when I don't want to carry a big kit I carry 24mm, (~35mm), 43mm, (~58mm*), and 85mm (~135mm**). Gasp, that's a lot like what a lot of people started out with from the 1960s thru 1980s. Those focal lengths just work for general photography. The old timers who recommended them as a starter kit actually seem to have known something. *I know the 43mm is quite a bit longer than the equivelent of 58mm, but I defy anyone to tell the difference between a photo taken with the 43mm or a 35mm lens on an APS-C camera without a direct comparison taken from exactly the same spot. **Sure it's really e~130mm but once again see the * note above. Re: OT - Q: how to link eBay account with Paypal?
I've had a checking account linked to Paypal for 18 years and have never had any problems with it. For safety and security, it's an account separate from my main savings/checking repository, at a different bank, but that doesn't mean there isn't a sizable sum of money in it. It's my daily use checking account. Having a linked bank account with Paypal nets useful benefits and savings. Since they split with EBay, I have not done any linking between them; I prefer to keep it separate. Re: OT - Q: how to link eBay account with Paypal?
That's encouraging, Ann. From experience I generally assume that phone help is going to be pretty useless and a huge waste of time spent on hold, so I don't go there. Honestly though, based on having found hundreds of forum messages from folks in the same boat, I'm going to just buy the lens I want from another seller, North American based, who doesn't have this linked restriction. It will cost me a bit more, but I think the source is a lower risk anyway. Looks like the eBay/Paypal split has created unresolved technical issues. I'll just avoid this. Thanks! Looking back at very difficult year
Hello. It seems that the 2015 has been one of if not the most difficult year in my life so far. Back in March, just a few days after we signed a contract for our own apartment, my father passed away from cardiac arrest. It was unexpected, it was very quick, it wash shocking and very painful for my mother, my brother and myself. Some of you I contacted privately on this when the wound was still very fresh. And to some of you I owe great debt now. I don't think that it is possible to fully recover from the death of someone dear and close, especially from the closest family. At least, as time goes by, I could regain most of my self, although my outlook at many things now has changed a lot. As it learned later, about the same time a good friend of mine, former class-mate from my school in Moscow also died. He was among the people of whom I wouldn't even dare think that something like this could happen. Apparently, he wasn't very healthy and few weeks after his mother passed away, he followed... It's a mistake to assume there is a single thing - "single malt Scotch" - that is uniformly excellent across the entire spectrum. As Larry can attest, I've got a fair few excellent examples on my shelves. Amongst those I've also got several bottles that I don't personally like, but this is basically a matter of style, not of quality. Even among the ones that fall into my favourite taste bracket (the lighter Speyside malts, for example, not the heavily peat-flavoured Islay brands) there is a great difference between, say, a bottle of Glenfiddich (which I no longer keep) and the bottle of Glenmorangie 1971 single-vintage we treated ourselves to as a house-warming present 20 years ago (and which still tastes wonderful). On the other hand, I've also encountered a couple of examples over the years where I felt that the only real use of the liquid in question would be as paint stripper or drain cleaner. And whereas most of the objectionable qualities would probably be negated (or at least masked) if they were used as ingredients, I prefer to err on the safe side, and follow Julia Child's maxim: If you wouldn't drink it, you shouldn't be cooking with it! P.S. I'd be happy to provide an objective viewpoint on Larry's ice cream... -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

So what you're saying is that Ricoh is following the fine tradition of Pentax marketing. Take a look at the Sample Images shown for each of the 4 lenses: http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/japan/products/lens_cmp2/page04.html (the link goes to the 70mm f/2.4, but you can change the URL to page03, page02, page01 (or simply click the link for the other lenses on the page). All are uniformly BLAH. A better way to judge what a lens can do is to go to the Pentax Photo Gallery and click the "Cameras and Lenses" link in the upper right hand corner. Select the lens you want to look at (ignore the cameras, unless you want to limit your search to a particular body) and click the GO button. Re: A great use for good Scotch
I was thinking more along the lines of whisky flavoured Coke rather than whisky drowned in Coke. Never tried "substances". They have a terrible concoction here in the townships called Nyope. Esssentailly dagga (cannabis) + tik (amphetamine) but a trace of coke (the white powder) is added for good measure. Now there are thousands of unsuspecting coke addicts who are turning to crime on a large scale to feed their habit. Alan C -Original Message- From: Daniel J. I have to agree with Daniel's sentiments (below). I thought that Lagavulin neat tasted pretty much like melted styrofoam smells. I didn't get the appeal/reputation. Generally speaking, all Canon APS-C bodies suck, compared to Nikon, Pentax, Fujifilm, etc. However, the latest generation has improved enough not to feel ashamed as they did in the recent past. Get her a Canon EOS 750D (EOS Rebel T6i) or EOS 760D (EOS Rebel T6s) and she'll be happy enough. Try this, Larry: "Good evening, Mr Larry Colen humbly and obsequiously requests the honour* of meeting the most honorable Messrs Robert Walden and Stephen Cottrell. He hopes to place his unworthy colonial boots on the sacred soil of the Mother Country in the coming few months, and dares to hope that he is worthy of such an audience. Hi Boris - 2015 must have been one of the worst years of your life: please take comfort from your beautiful family being around you, as I have in the last few days. It seems that the 2015 has been one of if not the most difficult year in my life so far. As it learned later, about the same time a good friend of mine, former class-mate from my school in Moscow also died. I think that ice, however, kill the subtleties of a good scotch, and mixers defeat the purpose of paying for a fine single malt. Hi Boris. So sorry to hear of your loss. Keep your family close and remember the good times. The pain won't go away any time soon, but you can begin to fill the void with love and warmth. For a Rob Roy or for flavoring a dessert, I would use a decent blended whisky rather that wasting a good single malt. That would involve buying a bottle of lesser whisky. Interesting you should bring that up. I was listening to a CBC program called Ideas one time on Robbie Burns day. They were interviewing cellar masters at various whisky distilleries. Every one of them said Scotch should be diluted with water, though there was some diversity of amount, but the number ranged from 25% to 50%, and of course they preferred water was what the distillery was drawing to make their product.
