Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
I was a very satisfied user of Server Power Control on my old Vortexbox server. I just migrated to a Snake-oil based server. Everything is working fine, but attempts to install Server Power control failed. Slightly intimidated by the instructions on the official Github (https://github.com/gharris999/SrvrPowerCtrl) I tried installing it from an alternative repo (https://www.spicefly.com/article.php?page=Logitech-Media-Server-Legacy-Plugins) but that didn't work. I got a bunch of syntax errors in repoers and ended up reinstalling Snake-oil and start afresh. Questions: a) Is there any easier way to get Server Power Control working instead of the process described on the Github? b) Any alternative ways or plug-ins to shut down a server after a period of inactivity? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
I'm trying to install server power control on a windows 7 machine. I downloaded the zip file from https://github.com/gharris999/SrvrPowerCtrl as instructed in earlier posts from 2017. I unzipped the folder and copied it to C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\Plugins\SrvrPowerCtrl. The instructions said I could get SCPowerTool.exe from the same place I got the plugin files, but I can't find it there. A google search led me to a 2010 version at https://code.google.com/archive/p/srvrpowerctrl/downloads. I put that file in C:\Windows\System32. Then I tried to test the program as suggested in the instructions: in command window with admin rights, I entered SCPowerTool.exe --standby --wakeup=-60 I got a message NSIS error, error launching installer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. rmariger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1160 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
@OleHB You missed a carriage return (so the if/fi is empty, so you get an error) Change this: Code: # I guess 25 characters are enough on any platform? SLIMUSERID=$(ps o user:25= "$SLIMSERVICEPID") to this: Code: # I guess 25 characters are enough on any platform? SLIMUSERID=$(ps o user:25= "$SLIMSERVICEPID") (you can get rid of the # comment line if you want.) Then: - check your sudoers fine is ok, specific additions from previous installer runs - have LMS started - run the install script as per the web help page. In the end your sudoers will have changed, to allow the user that runs the LMS server to execute power management commands. 3 SB 3 Libratone Loop, Zipp Mini iPeng (iPhone + iPad) LMS 7.9 (linux) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput, Triode's BBC iPlayer by bpa IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Server Power Control by Gordon Harris Smart Mix, Music Walk With Me, What Was That Tune? by Michael Herger PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson AirPlay Bridge by philippe_44 WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hold your horses right there. Assuming you're using the same Debian Jessie as I am... here is how to install the plugin: 1) *VERY IMPORTANT.* Define a password for root. I've met a bug in the install script that hosed /etc/sudoers. Once /etc/sudoers is corrupt, you can't sudo anymore to repair it... But you can "su root". So define a root password, or live dangerously and be ready to repair sudoers from the drive offline. To define a password for root: "sudo passwd" 2) There seem to be a bug at line 167 in spc-functions.sh. (/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SrvrPowerCtrl/scripts/unix/spc-functions.sh) This is how I got it sorted: Code: spc_get_slim_username(){ spc_get_slim_pid if [ ! -z "$SLIMSERVICEPID" ]; then ### BUG: returns "squeeze+" on debian 8.x ## ###SLIMUSERID=$(ps -fp "$SLIMSERVICEPID" | grep -v 'UID' | sed -n -e 's/^\([[:alnum:]]*\)[[:blank:]]*.*$/\1/p') # I guess 25 characters are enough on any platform? SLIMUSERID=$(ps o user:25= "$SLIMSERVICEPID") fi ...etc... 3) Now go to your LMS interface, then Settings>Advanced>Server Power Control, and click the link in the page head that says "Help with SrvrPowerCtrl" or something like this. This opens a new page, with install instructions. You'll just have to follow it. (but read on the next point before that) 4) For me, the install test step "sudo -u squeezeboxserver /usr/local/sbin/spc-test.sh" ends in error. As much as I understand the situation: gharris999 is moving the debian installs from systemV to systemd, but spc-test.sh still tries to "shutdown -k now" (simulate shutdown) which is not one of the commands allowed in /etc/sudoers (everything is migrated to "systemctl ") I can't be bothered to research how systemd renamed shutdown options so I left it at that. You should have a working srvPowerControl in spite of detected the failure. NOTE: If you review /etc/sudoers, you might want to correct the line that reads "systemctl hibrid-sleep", probably due to a typo in the install script. Thanks Wirrunna, I've added the * to systemctrl. The LMS Plugins page for SvrPowerCtrl still says it's not fully configured, but the machine does sleep, however it won't wakeup unless I physically press the power button. When the vortexbox is sleeping there are no flashing lights on the network port so I assume WOL isn't configured, even though it is enabled via the bios. I have tried to wake the Vortexbox up with a WOL app but that doesn't work, not surprising given the lack of activity lights on the network port. Any ideas? The PC is way to power hungry to leave it idling all the time. mr yogi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65527 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The answer to the sudoers is in the last post in your thread here - http://vortexbox.org/forum/vortexbox/help/64030-vortexbox-power-management. I added " %squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD:/bin/systemctl* " which as Gordon said in his post isn't wise or secure, but it works. The Server Power Control (SPC) setup gives you the ability to suspend or hibernate your server as well as shutdown. As my Vortexbox headless servers use an SSD for the system disk bootup time is just a few seconds so I have never used the hibernate or suspend, I just configured SPC to shutdown the server after 15 minutes of idle. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
Hi, complete Vortexbox noobie here hoping someone can help me out. I'm in the process of moving from a ReadyNAS Duo to a home built vortexbox, and I'm having a bit of trouble getting SvrPowerCtrl setup. I've installed Vortexbox 2.4 on an old PC (Intel Core2Duo E6600, 6GB DDR2, Abit AB9 Pro, 1TBHD), and I've installed the version of SvrPowerCtrl using the instructions from posts #2122 and #2125 above. When I go to the SvrPowerCtrl settings under Squeezeboxserver plugins I get the following mesage at the top of the page: SRVRPOWERCTRL APPEARS TO NEED FURTHER SETUP ON THIS SERVER. If I click -help- then it tells me there is a list of things to do for RedHat, including pm-utils. AIUI Vortexbox is based on Fedora and according to post #2126 suggests pm-utils is not available for Fedora? I updated the -basic commands- with the settings in post #2127 but I couldn't find any references to lms in my /etc/sudoers file. Currently the machine will shut down by itself after a period of inactivity, but I would like to be able to sleep and wake it. Also could someone explain what SvrPowerControl is capable of doing when installed on a Vortexbox which supports S3 (suspend to RAM), when the machine is used only as a headless server (i.e. no DAC/ audio output connected and the Squeezebox player function is not used? I have two Squeezebox clients (Touch and Boom), and I also use the server for DNLA clients; a Cyrus HiFi streamer and andriod tablets streaming to bluetooth speakers. If the server is in S3, will it appear on the serverlist for either the Squeezebox's or the DNLA clients? would I have to wake the server up first with a app such as iPeng before the clients could see it? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
Yes Apple has recently decided to break some assumptions that are still valid on all other OSes... What they've done is not silly, though. They have integrated in their wifi routers (and appleTVs, AFAIK) a sleep proxy server that is there to register services (let's say: a network file share) from computers that are going to sleep, then steal the MAC address of the computer. As a result the share stays online, and if a computer on the LAN connects to it, the proxy box gets hit, WOLs the computer and releases the MAC. Since laptops move around, the requirement of briefly waking up is there to refresh leases with the proxy, in order to keep the list of available services relatively reliable. All in all I think it is quite smart as it makes use of WOL transparent. Two problems: i. nobody (AFAIK) besides Apple has implemented a sleep proxy server (there is one implementation of a registration client on github I think), and ii. the client machine wakes-up by itself (and I don't know if it logs why somewhere.) 4 SB 3 iPeng (iPhone + iPad) Squeezebox Server 7.9 (linux) with plugins: CD Player, WaveInput by bpa IRBlaster by Gwendesign (Felix) Server Power Control by Gordon Harris Smart Mix, Music Walk With Me, What Was That Tune? by Michael Herger PowerSave by Jason Holtzapple Song Info, Song Lyrics by Erland Isaksson WeatherTime by Martin Rehfeld ShairTunes2 by disaster123 Local Player, BBC iPlayer by Triode Auto Dim Display, SaverSwitcher, ContextMenu by Peter Watkins. epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

During the process I was required to run a few commands in Terminal which prompted for a password. At the time I'd assumed this was the administrators account password (which was ignored) but in hindsight should have been the Squeezebox Server password. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
It should be the password for the mac account under which you installed LSM. I've more or less given up continuing any further OS X support or development. Versions of OS X after snow leopard make it very difficult for 3rd parties to fully control power management. With Lion and later, I never was able to reliably sleep or hibernate the machine, keep it asleep and then wake via WOL. Apple basically wants you to keep your mac on all the time, in my (admittedly limited) experience. gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
I thought I'd try your latest version as in #2085 to see what's new. It's all be fine except two things. I think I must have run the setup script wrong (as a user, with sudo), since sudoers got corrupted and I couldn't use sudo at all. Fortunately a search came to the rescue and using 'pkexec visudo' I was able to fix it. It turned out that all the new entries had the 'squeezeboxserver' text missing at the start, so I fixed that. I have then spent a day going quietly nuts over the wakeup scripts. There are currently 3:- spc-wakeup.sh, spc-wakeup.alt.sh, and spc-wakeup_alt.sh. I tried each one but have problems with all as far as I can tell. I'm on ubuntu 14.04 64 bit if that makes any difference. If I set up the wakeup script in the settings, apply and restart LMS, all is well and I get a message like: Code: [14-11-02 16:56:46.5343] spc-wakeup.sh (3536) Current wake alarm is set for 1414974000 (Mon Nov 3 00:20:00 GMT 2014). However, if I then reboot I get messages like: Code: [14-11-02 17:22:08.3002] spc-wakeup.sh (1909) No wake alarm set. [14-11-02 17:23:38.1465] spc-wakeup.sh (2024) No wake alarm set. I have made the recommended change (from http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/ACPI_Wakeup#Disable_hwclock_updates) to /etc/init/hwclock-save.conf to save /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm and restore it after setting the time. When I look at /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm and /proc/driver/rtc after restarting but before rebooting all is in sync. After a reboot /proc/driver/rtc is still OK, but /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm is empty. If I then manually run the spc-wakeup.sh script I get 'No wake alarm set' again. If I run the spc-wakeup.alt.sh script it seems to set it OK the first time, but it still gets lost after a reboot. What am I doing wrong? My hwclock-save.conf file contains: Code: description save system clock to hardware clock start on runlevel [06] task script . /etc/default/rcS [ $UTC = yes ] tz=--utc || tz=--localtime [ $BADYEAR = yes ] badyear=--badyear ACPITIME=`cat /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm` exec hwclock --rtc=/dev/rtc0 --systohc $tz --noadjfile $badyear echo $ACPITIME /sys/class/rtc/rtc0/wakealarm end script LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi running Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16-24 bit, 44.1-192kbps. There is no shutdown_to SrvrPowerCtrl CLI command, per se. You'll need to 1st configure the alternate server to shut down to on SrvrPowerCtrl's setup page. This can be mysqueezebox.com or another machine running LMS or a tinySC running on a SBTouch. Just select the alternate server you want to use from the drop-down list. To start with, enable all the checkboxes in the Alternate Server section: Switch ALL players; Unsync players; Request power-off; Push on external. Also, in the On-wakeup Actions section, check all the checkboxes there too: Restore Alternate Server connected players; Restore forcefully. Save those settings. Now, on your other machine that will execute your CLI script, create a script something like: srvrpowerctrl_shudown.sh: Code: #!/bin/sh # SrvrPowerCtrl cli script # Fix this up to the real ip of your LMS server LMS_IP=192.168.1.123 # Pick one of these actions.. ACTION='shutdown' #ACTION='suspend' printf srvrpowerctrl ${ACTION}\nexit\n | nc -w1 $LMS_IP 9090 If you have configured things correctly, when the LMS server shutsdown or suspends, SrvrPowerCtrl should push all the attached players over to the alternate server. gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I added the Shutdown to Alternate Server feature to SrvrPowerCtrl so that players attached to a server could be handed off to another server (typically a tinySC running on a SBTouch) when the main server shut down. Are you asking how to initiate a server shutdown from a script that gets fired off by Domoticz? If that's what you're after, and assuming that you know the IP of the server you're trying to shutdown, then you could have your script use NetCat to send CLI commands to the server. gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
I recently upgraded my VortexBox to version 2.3 and LMS 7.9. After using the SvrPowerControl plugin successfully with LMS 7.8 for some time, I reinstalled it on 7.9 and checked that all settings were the same as previously. Only the End of Day Suspend feature is enabled. I wake up the server with one of my Touch units when needed. All other menu items are unchecked. Here's my problemthe server will suspend at the appointed time or by using the Suspend menu item in LMS, but after 2 minutes the server wakes up. The SrvPowerControl log records a Wake Up command from somewhere! This happens regardless of the time entered for the end of day command. I've reviewed all the plugin menu items but can't see anything that should initiate a wake up call. With my configuration, the server should not wake up until my Touch sends a WOL command. MYSB.com integration is disabled. I have tried uninstalling the plugin, deleting cache and reinstalling but the wake up call continues after 2 minutes of suspension. Others appear to be using the plugin successfully on this version of VortexBox. Any idea's on what is causing this?? jfo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1135 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

tamanaco wrote: gharris, thanks for your reply... Is the code above for long press sleep or just for a short press sleep? IIRC, all Squeezebox IR remotes except for (some? all?) Boom remotes use the same scheme, and that is, keep sending the same IR code as long as the user is holding the button down. LMS has logic to treat the press as short if the player stops relaying IR code info to LMS fairly soon after the first code is sent. Some (all?) Boom remotes used a scheme whereby they'd send a button-specific IR code when the button was first pressed, and then for as long as the button continued to be pressed, they'd send a different IR code. That second IR code was the same for all buttons, and essentially was meant to tell Boom+LMS that the user hadn't stopped pressing the button yet. Technically, I think this ditto IR code (which I think was an industry standard) required less energy because it was shorter in length (fewer pulses of light), and therefore looked like a smart idea for a small remote with an expensive, disposable battery. I think Logi/SlimDevices at some point started building the Boom remotes to use the old school (non-ditto) behavior. Physical buttons on Boom (and Squeezebox Receiver) are treated differently -- the player sends LMS indication of both the button being pressed (down) and the button being released (up). AFAIK there's no way to trigger those messages with an IR code sent to the player's IR receiver. ... Anyway, I tried teaching the long press sleep command to my Harmony Smart Control and it didn't work because, as I was told, newer Harmony remotes have no raw learn capability. I'm trying to work with Logitech (Harmony) support to see if they can add this command to the profile for that device. 1) Really, a Harmony remote that can't learn? Sounds crazy. 2) Are there multiple Squeezebox devices in the Harmony database? Since all devices starting with at least the Squeezebox 1 support the same codes, you could try another device. (IIRC, the SliMP3 player responded to codes registered to another company, likely the JVC brand DVD codes that are also generally supported on older players by LMS out of the box. You could look at the .map and .ir files for LMS, but I don't believe LMS recognizes a JVC sleep code.) 3) If you can't customize a Harmony remote, take a look at the world of JP1 programmable remotes. One For All used to have nice options, but it looks like nowadays many people resort to reprogramming Comcast's set top box remote controls since they're cheap, plentiful, and apparently support JP1 programming. In a couple of my rooms I've been using OFA JP1 remotes for years, with very good results. 4) For use with LMS, you might be able to program the Harmony remote to send some other recognizabled IR code (one of those JVC DVD codes would be good) and modify the .map (?) file for LMS to have it treated as a sleep button. Sorry, my memory is really fuzzy here. But basically the old IP3K players like Boom recognize most IR codes (but not all, like they don't understand Denon's) and will relay info to LMS for most IR codes. So it's likely you can use the .map/.ir files to have LMS recognize a non-Squeezebox IR code as a sleep IR code. The simplest idea would be to change the server's network card setting to wake up on any traffic, and not on WOL packets only. But probably it will bounce from sleep due to chatter on the LAN. Instead you can make your clients smarter, and send a WOL packet if needed. Regarding mounts, if your client is scriptable, and you're using an automount executable map ( ) then you could execute some WOL-sending application as part of the mount process. This should work. Another variant I have used when mounting NFS is to run a simple script in a loop, looking for increasing NFS mount errors/retries. The script sees a spike in errors and then sends WOL packets if it can't ping the server. I've used this trick on an Apple TV for years, it is slow but robust. With HTTP there could be a solution where you access another server on an other machine, the URL corresponds a CGI script, the script sends WOL packets and then redirects to LMS. If you're looking for something really transparent, I think you have to go with a filtering bridge in front of the LMS server. The packet filter could see the LMS server IP, log the access, and a separate script could then act and send WOL packets when a new line is seen in the log. That could work for any protocol. I don't know much about firewalls, but I doubt there is one which will allow to run a random script directly when an IP or port is knocked, hence the log file indirection. There are routers that will act as WOL proxies (the wake your home computer from the Internet feature), but since we're talking about LMS, I suppose segregating the server on another network is not a great idea; you'd lost server/player discovery. But perhaps the feature somehow remains available when such routers are set to bridge mode. In short, what you want is possible. But I am afraid I do not know the best way of doing it. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
Hi, Thanks fo rthe plugin, it is working really well for me in tersm of suspending and waking the box backup whn I use a player however I would also like the server to wake up when the vortexbox or LMS web interface is started or when one of the samba shares is accessed over the network. Is this possible and if so what is the best way of doing it ?
