After 1.6.2, Most setting will have no effect if you have a reasonably modern processor with multiple cores.Format settings are matter of personal taste but DASH has most facilities (e.g. skip back) but some programs are in podcast format only (i.e. MP3) so DASH > HLS > MP3 > FlashAAC should be the default. If you have problems - first try the equivalent "alt menu" option to isolate local problem vs BBC/CDN problems. > Note to self : I must stay in touch with this forum and keep my software > up to date. Definitely because the BBC changes network streams at least a couple of times a year - sometimes breaking existing facilities. The Plugin page on your LMS will indicate when a stable update is available. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110244 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering
Please upgrade to 1.6.3 as 1.6.0 is quite old (Sept 2017) - 1.6.3 is the latest - there have been a number of bug fixes and BBC changed some URLs and tweaked some of their streaming protocols. Does the problem happen with Live or on Demand or both ? What format are you streaming ? HLS or DASH - if you don't know what is the bitrate and codec shown for the problem station/program ? What player are you using ? What menu sequence (e.g. Radio->BBCiPlayer->Listen Live->Radio 4) are you using to play the stream ? Have you tried the "Alt CDN" menu to see if the problem is CDN specific ? Setting such as: LIve Stream Preference On Demand Stream Preference Bit rate for lIve stream DASH Bit rate for On Demand DASH Seconds to delay start live stream Buffer fullnes threshold Unless LMS proxying has been enabled for the player, MP3 stream go straight to player so BBCiPlayer or LMS do not go near the stream. For UK listeners MP3 stream tend to be lower quality than HLS or DASH. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110244 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Default log level only show packet which delayed longer than 1sec and this is around the time you had problem. As long as the Select.pm files has been patched, I think the rebuffering is a BBC / CDN / ISP network issue and not a BBCiplayer plugin one. IIRC BBC Network weekday load is heaviest from about 7:30-10:30 and 4:30-7:00pm. On weekend - often Sunday 11:00-2:30 is bad. > > Yes, I am getting mysqueezebox.com error messages, but not round the > time I was having issues. > > SN: Invalid mysqueezebox.com username or password. > [19-02-27 10:38:26.7961] Slim::Networking::SqueezeNetwork::_init_error > (185) Unable to login to mysqueezebox.com, sync is disabled: Invalid > mysqueezebox.com username or password. This will manifest itself with a log file full of LMS error message and the log file will grow very big and very quickly whenever BBciPlayer plays a stream. To check if this is root cause of the "rebuffering" problem - stop LMS, patch the one line of Select.pm, delete server.log file and restart LMS. If problem remains - then other things can be checked. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110244 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Upnp is universal plug n play..it's a network protocol that allows things to talk to each other and share things. My tv is a connected tv which has upnp sp it was trying to talk and sync up with my pi lms server and it overloaded it. There is a chance you could have one or many upnp connections set to default 'on' so it's worth turning it off in the lms server especially if (as it sounds) you have zero need for it. Go to plug ins and turn off the upnp plug in. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering
Giza, I don't know what an uPNP is, so I can't imagine I have one. And there's nothing else trying to get on the network at the times of my rebuffering events. Neil, I checked the Logitech Media Server Log File, and no error messages, and nothing else at the time of this evening's rebuferring events. All I see for this evening were two logs around the time I switched on to listen to a R2 Listen Again show via BBC iPlayer Extras ... [15-05-06 18:43:58.8485] Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra Playable playlist URL =http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05t2dj9/playlist.json [15-05-06 19:02:27.7371] Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra Playable playlist URL =http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05ss73q/playlist.json The rebufferings began to happen about 20 minutes after that second log there, around 7:15, and then regularly from about 7:25. I gave up shortly after that. whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering
My listening, mostly On Demand via BBC Extras, still plagued with rebuffering. This evening, for example, tried listening to Clare Teal, R2 26-4-15, and died after a minute or so, so I restarted the stream, successfully this time, but then rebuffering constantly after 20 minutes or so. Again, if it would help sort this out, I could provide a log, but I'd need some guidance as it's ages since I've done that. whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering
Just to confirm that this problem is defo affecting the vanilla live BBC streams, as well. Currently running LMS 7.8.0 on a dedicated Vortexbox Appliance in the UK and have been a long-time listener to the bog-standard BBC streams [mainly] via a Boom, but sometimes via Squeezeplay/Desktop PC. Since I am selecting the streams from the standard LMS Radio menu, I assume that they are the Shoutcast mp3 streams (LMS 'playing' pane shows [for example] -BBC Radio 4 (London), BBC Radio 4 93.5, 128kbps CBR, Radio-). Before the BBC started this messing around, there were occasional rebuffers (never more than one or twice a day) but now, there is a high incidence of intermittent but frequent stuttering/rebuffering which makes the stream all but unlistenable. Occurrence doesn't seem to conform to any observable pattern or audience size (e.g. I've had it occurring in the middle of the afternoon whilst 8.30 in the morning was fine) but, when it does kick in, rebuffering seems to occur every 30 secs or so and goes on for ages. It's definitely a BBC problem cos, whilst it's occurring, if you switch to a non-BBC stream (e.g. Radio Paradise, Bay Smooth Jazz etc), they play perfectly. I get the impression that it occurs less frequently with Squeezeplay than it does with the Boom but I haven't yet got round to properly testing this, yet. My [non-technical] wife is an avid BBC listener, is rapidly loosing her patience with this situation and is starting to make veiled (and not so veiled) threats about getting shot of this internet radio junk and getting a simple DAB radio. I was planning to install Triode's plugin hoping in the hope that the problem was only associated with the Shoutcast streams but am I correct in thinking that people are also seeing this rebuffering via his iPlayer live stream? I'm also seeing issues. Am using only the BBC iPlayer plugin and Listen Live, exclusively Radio1. I had the occasional buffering when the initial HLS issues were sorted out but it has mostly been very occasional and wasn't an issue. Over the last two weeks or so it has become almost unusable in the evenings and pauses every 20 seconds or so. This evening I've just got home and turned on my SB. A couple of dropouts straight away and then it has been fine while I've been writing this post. I'm in the UK. Upgraded to v1.3.1alpha3 yesterday which made no difference. Am running from a Synology DS213 but the CPU load is fine - it peaks only occasionally but sits between 6-15% most of the time. I usually listen to Listen Again stuff between about 6pm and 9pm (in south-west England), so that's roughly when it's been happening. Usually R2 or 6 Music, sometimes R3, occasionally R4. I've been trying to discern a pattern, and generally it seems to be about half an hour or so into the playback, when it will start rebuffering pretty regularly, maybe half a dozen times over a short period. That's often when I get fed up and switch to something else. And that's just my memory of what happens: not exactly scientific. whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I only ask because I have another theory about why there may be problems with Listen Again using the BBCiPlayer plugin (i.e. HLS), which might explain relatively trouble-free playing for a period (you've mentioned half an hour, others have mentioned 15 minutes or so), and then rapid deterioration. In any case (BBCiPlayerExtras or BBCiPlayer), if you resume playback from the place it has got to in the stream (click on progress bar or whatever), does it behave for the 1/2 an hour again, or still have regular rebuffering? utgg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40900 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

If that is the case and the problem is something to do with your ISP , BBC CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) and BBC source. BBC uses two CDNs - Akamai and Limelight but the plugins often only choose Akamai and I think it is not easy to force the plugins to select a particular CDN just to test to see if it is part if the problem. In the meantime, if anyone could help prod me in the right direction of how to check CPU and network perf stats on a Mac, I'd be grateful. whitman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9053 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Rebuffering often happens with live streams since it is live It is unusual with RTMP (i.e Extras) to rebuffer with Listen Again as BBC usually can send a big burst of data before playing begins as the whole program is available. I'm not sure how to check CPU and network perf stats. I don't know about OSX tools Can you describe you local network in more detail e.g. is Mac Mini running LMS connected to router by wireless ? What audio format is your file based music that you play ? Are your players connected with wired or wireless connections ? If they are wireless - can you test if you get problems if the players are wired ? As a test of an AAC stream which will need transcoding like bbc STREAM - can you play this Stream and do you get any rebuffering http://somafm.com/groovesalad130.pls bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Does it happen with both Live streams and Listen Again on BBCiPlayer ? Have you applied any patches to the 1.3.1alpha3 plugin ? Since it is transcoding OK - the issue could be some sort of system overload - first check CPU and network perf stats to make sure it is not a system issue. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering
Yeah, the BBC streams do seem quite bad at the moment, lots of buffering. I've had 6music just stop or go into buffering and then pause at about 3%. Changing channels can also take a while sometimes. Not sure if it's the streams or plugin changes. However, for some time before the fix and now afterwards, I've been plagued with rebufferings. In some cases, the stream has simply stopped. This does not seem to be the result of wi-fi problems, including my router and/or the position of my two Classics. BBC streams are the only things affected; everything else works cleanly. To confirm that, my Mac OSX Wireless Diagnostics shows no problems. I imagine I can get more help here if I make a log to try to reveal what's happening, but it's been so long since I've done this, I'm at a loss to know exactly what I need to do to provide it. What settings do I need to make, and how do I apply them? I'd be grateful for some help. [LMS 7.9.0 - 1428327734; BBCiPlayer v1.3.1alpha3; BBCiPlayer Extras v1.8; Mac mini running OSX 10.10.3.] Most of us seem to be finding the new HLS streams are rock solid, even with quite poor broadband bandwidth. There are suspicions, however, that some of the unreliability issues that some have been having with the HLS streams, particularly the Live streams, might be down to slow or unreliable connection to your DNS server, or even problems with your chosen DNS server misbehaving. The HLS streaming method is sensitive to such issues, which you may not notice with other Internet usage. See this post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103435-BBCiPlayer-Plugins-an-alternative-quick-fix-guidep=814782viewfull=1#post814782. Your chosen DNS server (probably set by your ISP in your router) may have problems. Or it is possible that your broadband connection or home network is just 'on the edge' and drops a small percentage of network packets - not enough to be noticeable in most use, but enough to lose the odd DNS lookup message, which could cause havoc with the HLS streaming. This is all conjecture - we don't have any hard evidence of this happening with anyone using the alpha3 BBCiPlayer plugin (yet). If this is a regular occurrence for you, it sounds like it is worth trying to trace the problem. A simple thing is to just try using a different DNS server. PasTim suggests Google's at 8.8.8.8. I might be helpful to try a utility program that tests out your DNS performance and point you at a better server. A quick google came up with https://code.google.com/p/namebench/. Disclaimer: I can't vouch for this program, I'm running it on my laptop as I type this, but it is taking a long time... If that doesn't help, or before even trying that, we should be able to see something unusual happening in the LMS log with some debug logging turned on. I suggest selecting 'debug' logging for both (network.asyncdns) and (plugin.bbciplayer.hls). You do this via the settings page of the LMS web interface page - it's found under the 'advanced' tab and the 'logging' drop-down menu. This will produce a lot of log output while playing the BBC streams, so don't leave it on permanently - just do it for one test while you are having problems! Attach the whole server.log file here if you can (I don't where that is located on OSX). utgg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40900 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103481 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
