In India, which has the highest number of billionaires (36) in Asia with total wealth of $191 billion USD, Prime Minister Singh declared that the greatest single threat to Indias security were the Maoist led guerrilla armies and mass movements in the poorest parts of the country. In China, with 20 billionaires with $29.4 billion USD net worth, the new rulers, confronting nearly a hundred thousand reported riots and protests, have increased the number of armed special anti-riot militia a hundred fold, and increased spending for the rural poor by $10 billion USD in the hopes of lessening the monstrous class inequalities and heading off a mass upheaval. The total wealth of this global ruling class grew 35% year to year topping $3.5 trillion USD, while income levels for the lower 55% of the worlds six-billion-strong population declined or stagnated. Put another way, one hundred millionth of the worlds population (1/100,000,000) owns more than over three billion people. Over half of the current billionaires (523) came from just three countries: the US (415), Germany (55) and Russia (53). The 35% increase in wealth mostly came from speculation on equity markets, real estate and commodity trading, rather than from technical innovations, investments in job-creating industries or social services. Cotidianul a scris in ultimele luni despre toate aceste schimbari si acum va prezentam o sinteza a celor mai relevante puncte in care vom resimti, in bine sau in rau, integrarea in UE inca din prima zi. Liber la munca De la 1 ianuarie, romanii vor putea sa lucreze liber in Estonia, Letonia, Lituania, Cehia, Slovacia, Slovenia, Polonia, Cipru, Suedia si Finlanda, fara a mai avea nevoie de permise de munca. Spania a anuntat ca va impune un regim tranzitoriu pentru un prim an, in care se vor aplica regulile de pina acum pe piata muncii, dupa care se va lua o decizie pentru urmatorul an, ultimul in care ar putea preconiza limitarea miscarii fortei de munca. Un regim asemanator celui impus de Spania a ales si Irlanda. Romanii vor putea sa lucreze in Italia fara a avea nevoie de permise speciale in domenii cum ar fi constructiile, agri-cultura, serviciile hoteliere, turismul si asistenta sociala. Si in Franta cetatenii tarii noastre vor putea practica 61 de meserii din domeniile constructiilor si lucrarilor pu-blice, hotelier, agricol si industrial. O situatie asemanatoare este si in Ungaria, singurul stat est-european care ne- a limitat accesul la piata muncii, primind romani doar in domeniile care se confrun-ta cu o lipsa de lucratori: industria alimentara, industria usoara, constructii si sanatate. In urmatorii doi ani vor exista restrictii de acces la piata muncii in Grecia (dar numai in sectorul public), Olanda, Belgia si Danemarca. Austria, Germania si Marea Britanie au anuntat ca vor aplica sistemul 2+3+2, prevazut in Tratatul de ade-rare la UE: dupa perioada initiala de doi ani, in care romanii vor accede pe piata muncii ca si pina acum, pe baza de permise individuale de munca, situatia va fi reanalizata, urmind sa poata fi prelungita cu trei ani si apoi cu doi. Portugalia, Malta si Luxemburg nu au anuntat inca in ce conditii ii vor primi pe muncitorii romani. Asigurare peste tot De la 1 ianuarie, asigurarea de sanatate va fi valabila in toate statele UE. Pentru a beneficia de serviciile medicale atunci cind parasesc Romania, asiguratii romani trebuie sa solicite un card de la Casele de Asigurari de Sanatate, pentru care vor achita circa doi RON. De la aceeasi data, contributiile angajatorilor la sistemele de pensii vor fi luate in calcul la stabilirea vechimii in munca si a punctajelor. Astfel, inclusiv munca in strainatate se va traduce in pensie in Romania. Tot de la 1 ianuarie, cei care vor sa calatoreasca cu masina personala in UE nu vor mai achita asigurarea Carte Verde care este deja inclusa in valoarea politei RCA, dar vor trebui totusi sa nu-si uite acasa hirtia suplimentara pe care le-au dat-o societatile de asigurare atunci cind au platit polita RCA. Televiziune cu noi reguli Propunerea de revizuire a regulilor de publicitate pentru canalele de televiziune din Uniunea Europeana, sprijinita de Parlamentul European, modifica directiva Televiziunea fara frontiere din 1997. The revolution in Iran brought to power a radical Shiite theocracy which was determined to export its revolution across the border where Shiite underground groups with close ties to Iranian intelligence had carried out terrorist attacks and assassinations against the Iraqi government, a country whose population was 60% Shiite. In 1980, because Iran was distracted and weakened by the throes of the theocratic revolution, and in the face of efforts of Tehran to promote revolts by both the Shiites and the Kurd populations in Iraq, Saddam launched a limited war aimed at capturing a strip of land along their common border. The decision to uphold the death sentence of Saddam Hussein by the sham Iraqi appeals court has gained worldwide condemnation, except for the U.S., of course. The court took two days to read 1,500 pages of documents presented by the defense. No court in the world can decipher this number of pages in such a short time, not even a legitimate court. No one was surprised by the verdict against Saddam because of the knowledge this was a foregone conclusion. However, the court outdid itself by ruling on the Iraqi vice president, Ramadan. In the aftermath of the Dec. 23 United Nations Security Council unanimous vote imposing sanctions or Iran for failing to suspend uranium enrichment (see text of resolution here), one has to wonder: why did Russia and China go along with it? Iran's pursuit of uranium enrichment for civilian nuclear purposes is allowed by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and the IAEA has found no indication that Iran has diverted any nuclear material to military purposes. While Russia may prefer for its own reasons that Iran not enrich uranium, it fully recognizes that Iran's pursuit is legal under international law. Furthermore, as Western news media constantly emphasize, Russia and China have extensive commercial ties with Iran, hence it is not in their interest to antagonize Iran. 1. Myth number one is that the United States can still win in Iraq. Of course, the truth of this statement, frequently still made by William Kristol and other Neoconservatives, depends on what winning means. But if it means the establishment of a stable, pro-American, anti-Iranian government with an effective and even-handed army and police force in the near or even medium term, then the assertion is frankly ridiculous. The Iraqi government is barely functioning. The parliament was not able to meet in December because it could not attain a quorum. Many key Iraqi politicians live most of the time in London, and much of parliament is frequently abroad. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki does not control large swathes of the country, and could give few orders that had any chance of being obeyed. The US military cannot shore up this government, even with an extra division, because the government is divided against itself. Most of the major parties trying to craft legislation are also linked to militias on the streets who are killing one another. It is over with. Each time I tour the United States , I stare through the looking glass at the faraway region in which I live and work for The Independent - the Middle East - and see a landscape which I do no recognise, a distant tragedy turned, here in America , into a farce of hypocrisy and banality and barefaced lies. Am I the Cheshire Cat? Or the Mad Hatter? I picked up Jimmy Carter's new book, Palestine : Peace Not Apartheid at San Francisco airport, and zipped through it in a day. It's a good, strong read by the only American president approaching sainthood. In fact, the global imposition of the Western model of development after WWII had already ended the traditional independence of the State. The new ideology was simply a recognition of facts on the ground.
