Re: [QUAD-L] 50 years
Good afternoon, I am from Lancaster County, Amish country, Pennsylvania. My level was C-5-6. The Elizabethtown cripple Children's Hospital was a state run hospital, basically just a training and warehouse. I did not receive much therapy at the hospital, therapy for spinal cord injuries in the 1960s was almost nonexistent, but I received many life lessons. It's weird, as I write this exactly 50 years ago today, at this moment, or close to it, they were fishing me out of a swimming pool. During the week in 1966 we had very severe weather in Pennsylvania, living next to the Susquehanna River many weekends were spent with my Sunday school teacher and his mini sailboat or his rowboat. My mother was scared that the recent storms would wash debris down the river and instead of allowing me to go on the river, she said "I will take you to someplace safe", of which she had to live with those words the rest of her life. We went to a public pool, the lifeguard forgot something and went home after leaving his girlfriend on the lifeguard stand. She freaked out as she knew nothing and they did not have anyone that knew to be aware of a broken neck. I had a false tooth lodged in my throat and the two people That Pulled Me kept beating the back of my neck trying to dislodge the tooth. The rest is history. Thanks, have a good one Glenn In a message dated 7/8/2016 3:23:52 P.M. Central Daylight Time, lorilivin...@gmail.com writes: Ditto what Danny put forth. Re: [QUAD-L] Question
Hello Larry, Burning mouth syndrome is also caused by using Ditropan. I find that if I take my Ditropan three times a day, 10 mg at a time my mouth will do the same. I have spaced out the time that I take Ditropan to every four hours but only take 5 mg tablets. Something that works for me is Xlimelts, which helps produce saliva and keeps the mouth moist. Another thing that I do is keep a small Dixie cup of peanut butter by the bed and put a small bit in my mouth. The oil in the peanut butter helps things. When it happens it hurts, good luck. [QUAD-L] isn't the government interesting
Yes, I'm sure many of us have noticed a jump in medicine prices. One mad that I use was a co-pay of $11 per month, now $80 per month. Another med was four dollars per month and now $78 per month. Obama care sure is fun isn't it? Oh yeah, how many people know the land that is controlled by the federal government? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_lands And it's comforting to know that a lot of the federal land is controlled by the United Nations. What a wonderful world. The next election scares me for sure! Glenn
[QUAD-L] I just love that Obama care
Wow! I'm a fan of Obama care. To all those people that thought Obama care was going to fix the world and make everything affordable and better for our world: Amishit! Did anybody get any medications in 2016? I used a cream for pressure sores, Xenaderm, and a powder medication Prevalite. I also use Ditropan and a dozen other medications including Valium for spasms. Well, thanks to our illustrious leader Xeanderm went from $14 to$75, the Prevalite has gone from $18 all the way up to $84 and my Ditropan has increased from eight dollars to $14. Who knows what the other medications will be. If you hear of someone declaring war against the United States, it will be me. They can defeat me, then they have to rebuild my world. When they rebuild my world, I will be the dictator, I can keep all the oil that I pump, I can say whatever I want to say, and if somebody else says something that is offensive to me like crippled, I can apply for government assistance. Where that hell has common sense gone? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I'm from Lancaster County Pennsylvania, Amish country and we call it plain shit. Goodbye and welcome to the world of the Liberal.

[QUAD-L] 48 years
Hello everyone, July 10, 1966 was one of those hot days in Pennsylvania. I believe the record high temperature for 1966, was July 3 of 107°. That week we had many severe storms and to cool off I had plans to accompany my Sunday school teacher in the Susquehanna River. Upon asking permission from my mother she made the statement I don't trust the river with all the storms, so I will take you someplace safe, a statement I'm sure she relived in her mind many times. That afternoon I went to a public pool and while swimming someone apparently did a cannonball on my back. Luckily someone saw me and calls went out to the lifeguard, who just happened to have gone home and ask his girlfriend to sit on the tower. It really didn't matter, for as it turned out he was not certified. I spent the next 2 1/2 years in the Etown Crippled Childrens Hospital, nine of those months in isolation due to infections from pressure sores. There wasn't such a thing as sci rehab at that time. Well, here I am 48 years later, the last two years being the roughest, but as they say I am still hanging in there, but the rope gets short at times. Just like the rest of us, I don't know if I will make it to 49, things are going on inside my body, but the doctors just don't know what. I've had a full life, certainly glad that I did not wait around for a cure. With my anything for a buck mentality I took a correspondence class in electronics, received an associate degree, started a business, built a building for that business and am now retired. Gee, my counselor from vocational rehabilitation said I could never work on electronics with hands that didn't function. After I was two thirds through the course, the next counselor realized I was serious and the state of Pennsylvania picked up the rest of the tab. Now, I am trying to study web site design, but learning something new doesn't come easy at 63. The almost completed web site for anyone from Pennsylvania that may have spent time at the Elizabethtown State Hospital for crippled children is: http://www.elizabethtowncrippledchildrenshospital.com/ I don't know how many years I will be around to keep up the site, but I thank the quad site for all the help you have been over the years. My prayer is that God touches all of you in a very special way this year. I have to be able to make a post on July 10, 2015. OK, now Get er Done Glenn Henry

I am normally on Lisinopril and Lasix. In the morning I will eat a breakfast sandwich and take my morning meds. Approximately 1 hour later my blood pressure will be almost normal, then it will either gradually go up or spike back up to where it has been staying. The doctor has also put me on a medication to slow my heart beat. I am a C-5/6 quad, mostly healthy, but throughout my 48 years of Post SCI have occasions where my blood pressure will be skyhigh in two minutes later in the basement. An example that I can use happen two months ago, just before we call the ambulance, my blood pressure with 80/50, after the ambulance arrived in less than five minutes my blood pressure went to 22?/13?. In about 10 minutes into the transport it started fluctuating almost normal, 13?/8?. Normally within about two weeks things would settle them, much more very low blood pressure then high blood pressure, then we would return to normal. This time, two months after the incident, my blood pressure remains high, at times reaching more than 200/13?. In the evening I would go to sleep, wake up in about two hours with a fever of 100 plus and my heart would be elevated to 90 to 100. My normal temps run in 97° range, normal heartbeat 48, this morning my temperature was 95.6°. Sound familiar? What meds are you using if you get something similar? Later, Glenn

Later, Glenn Henry

[QUAD-L] Wound care conference
OK, here is one for the books. I just spoke on a panel to about 200 nurses concerning wound care. Of course a lot of the legal medical stuff flew over the cuckoos nest. I live in Lancaster County Pa, where it is 9 degrees right now and there is a large Amish population. One VNA said she had a 1st last week. She entered the home, nice clean and neat and started treatment. She took off the bandage while the family stood by with smiles on their face. As she took off the dressing red stuff started to ooze from the area. She thought oh my gosh! The family wasn't alarmed, they calmly said that ground up red beets have healing powers. [QUAD-L] Wound care
With the discussion on the site, I thought I would send this again. Quite lengthy but I feel it is important. I have a friend who is charge nurse in a wound clinic and deals with the latest technology in wound healing. I feel that it would be wise to print this information, research it, and put it in use when needed. I am a bullhead and almost needed a 2x4 along my head to try using tea on my skin. I'm a believer. Here goes: I had an area in the groin area, measured 1 inch long and 1/2 wide, with little depth. Our normal treatment was washing the area with tea to change the pH in the area, applying Neosporin or something similar, apply zenaderm and then bag balm. The healing went back and forth, sometimes getting better then stepping back. Well, after hunting season I called a friend, RN at the local wound care center, to give us some ideas. The area first opened in August due to an attendant not seating me correctly. After looking at the area my friend suggested a treatment that they are using at the wound center. Many of us will stay with something that is tried and true, but we were going down that path and it did not work so let's try the new stuff. She recommended using a new dressing with Safetac technology. ( http://www.molnlycke.com/us/Wound-Care-Products/US/Safetac-Technology/ ). The dressing is called Mepilex Border dressing, _( http://molnlycke.com/Global/Wound_Care_Products/UK/Product%20Sheets/Advanced/Mepilex%20Border.pdf_ (http://molnlycke.com/Global/Wound_Care_Products/UK/Product%20Sheets/Advanced/Mepilex%20 Border.pdf) ) similar to what I have known as mini island dressing. The difference between the two dressings is the Border Dressing uses a tape that is silicon based and does not damage the skin when removed or when you shift weight. The border dressing has a telfa style center but is very thin. A normal dressing would have bunched in this area and the border dressing does bunch to some extent, but less than the island dressing and is much less a problem. Everyone is aware of the white skin that surrounds a wound as well as whiteness in the center of the wound. The whitish film that is in the center of the wound is called bioberden A product called acticoat, was placed on the area then covered it with the border dressing. Although manufacturer states that it can remain on seven days she recommends only three or four days. The acticoat contains silver which helps to remove the white area and keep the area free of bacteria. After the wound is clearer of bioberden, we discontinued using acticoat and started to use another product Puracol AG+ which also has silver in the product. The Puracol was covered with the Border dressing and remained on three or four days. Puracol is a collagen product ( http://www.allegromedical.com/wound-care-c541/puracol-plus-ag-wound-dressing-with-silver-p557629.html ) the collagen is absorbed into the wound and promotes healing. We however did run into one problem. We were able to get a few samples on the border dressing but found that the pharmacies and medical supply centers in our area did not handle the product. Needing a dressing to keep Puracol in place we used Extra thin Hydrocolloid dressing a dressings similar to DuoDerm. Big mistake! This dressing although very thin folded inward and bunched on a lump, tearing the skin and causing yet another open area. The unfortunate part is that the original area was almost healed by this point and now we are working with a new area in an area that is even more likely to bunched up any bandage that is applied. We are using the border dressing and it is staying in place with the help of Medfix tape. I believe that the new procedures reduce the healing time. The original area which was open for approximately 4 months healed within two-three weeks. As I started to search the Internet to purchase the border dressing and Puracol AG+, IMPORTANT MUST BE AG+(with silver), I found some prices ridiculous. One vendor had the border dressings at a price of $75 but with a little searching I found them for $25. The same was true for the Puracol. In addition we will be using the silicone tape ( http://www.molnlycke.com/us/Wound-Care-Products/Product-Selector---Wound-division/Tabs/Products/Mepita c/ ) instead of the Medfix tape. Another tip for us that get yeast infections in the groin area, body folds and under breasts. I was prone to yeast infections and my friend also gave me a lesson. A yeast infection will remain in the skin 2 weeks after any visual signs are gone. I smell a yeast infection before it appears and start treatment right away. The smell is a musky scent. I wash the area with tea, fan dry and apply Lamisil or lotramin. Fabric that has silver embedded, _www.noblebiomaterials.com_ (http://www.noblebiomaterials.com/) can be

[QUAD-L] shoulder
Larry, How are you doing with the shoulder? Yes, I went through the same and the first time I really had a problem driving was after making a left turn, then not being able to turn the wheel as my shoulder locked. I spent a lot of my life in a manual wheelchair (C5-6) and ruined my shoulders because of it. Hindsight is 20/20 and for the life of me, can't understand why people stay in a manual chair. I was always told that it will keep your arms strong, but an electric chair not only is easier on the shoulders, it opened up my world for me. I use the stretchie bands to exercise and in winter the extra insulated underwear top and sweat shirt brings the pain. It takes about a month for my muscles to strenghten and the pain to start to subside. The Dr. said both rotator cups are shot and need surgery, but with little heavy lifting above my shoulder I can't justify it. I also have 2 torn tendons and he said if another one goes my arm will be dead. Glenn Henry G.A.Henry Radio 100 Mill Street Washington Boro, PA 17582 In a message dated 11/29/2013 4:00:54 P.M. Wheels, Just thought I would let you know that your story will lead off my speaking at our Tuesday PM Men's Bible Study. As this story started on the site, I thought how are those parents, when things settle down and there sitting in the quietness somewhere and it hits them what they allowed happen, are they ever going to live with their decision. They are in shock and the wife in my opinion is a selfless total jerk. We need to pray for the family. The next day after hearing about the hunter, a friend that was bright, healthy and a retired Master Sergeant that at one time was in charge of guarding the airport hanger that houses Air Force One, ended his life at the end of an extension cord. In 1976, a young police officer on patrol in our village, saw the father of his best friend, step in front of the car in front of him to commit suicide. The police officer had to pull the drunken idiot from under the ladies car and unsuccessfully perform CPR. He was told by the police department to keep his mouth shut and it will go away in time. Within a year that office quit the force, and soon after committed suicide. I miss my brother, he was a good policeman and friend. Guy's pray for me on Tuesday PM as I talk about this. It will be the first time I spoke in public about suicide. Glenn Henry
[QUAD-L] This world suck!
Hello all, Yes, the world sucks, not just for the handicapped people, but for many able-bodied people. The family involved in making that decision, to allow the quad to be taken off the ventilator will come to regret those moments. Many on this list have been put under anesthesia, how well could you think after you came to? I know it said that the man made his own decision. I hope I am not related to that family! All of us have gone through so much and accomplished so many things. Compare a custodian that cleans bathrooms with Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft. No matter which way you look at the situation, each one accomplished what they could. As with all quads, each is different. Rufus Beiler, an Amish men in Pennsylvania, fell from a roof and can't even use his fingers, but without electricity in the home, he devised a system for a hydraulic elevator, learned computer and is now a successful architect. Did you hear that world, he couldn't even move a finger. Among the Amish community there are several success stories of quads making a living and contributing to their community. Yes, we all face different aspects of our injury, but in most cases we triumphed. Each year on the quad site, most everyone acknowledges their anniversary date of their accident. Many are sad, bitter while others are hopeless, fortunately these are a few. Sometimes we dread our anniversary and sometimes we give thanks. In spite of all the issues that we face, I look forward to marking another milestone. In my opinion, God gave me a gift 46 years post SCI. Last week a friend of mine took his life at the end of an electrical cord. In 1976 my brother (a police officer)took his life after witnessing an accident of his best friend father, an alcoholic, stepping out in front of a car to commit suicide. My brother pulled him from under a car and attempted CPR, no luck. The Police Department's advice, keep your mouth shut and get over it. Then there's me! I'm C5-6, multiple problems just like the rest of us. After being discharged from a state institution the nurse took my father aside and gave him some advice. Take him home, buy him a television and wait for him to die. This was not a mean comment, this was the mindset of that time period. Boy how things have changed! I took my interest of hunting and fishing to open a small business selling articles of that interest. Having a strong feeling that I was to go into the electronics field, I approached the office of vocational rehabilitation to acquire funding for a home correspondence course. No computers back then, everything was done through the mail. Of course the office of vocationa l rehabilitation said no way, someone without the use of their fingers could not work on electronics equipment. Okay, they wouldn't pay for it, I would. After I was three quarters of the way through the course, a miracle happened they paid for the rest of it. Sometimes God put you at the right place at the right time and in my case it was the CB craze of the 1970's. In this same small single car garage that I was selling hunting and fishing equipment, along with live night crawlers, I started servicing CB radios with the help of two part-time technicians that were attending electronics school. The two part-time technicians were hired full-time, a third was added part-time, and busting at the seams, I purchased property and constructed a building on the opposite side of the street. Within five years I had three full-time technicians, two part-time technicians, three office people, not including my wife and myself. Our business continued to expand, God kept opening new doors and we expanded, sending business fliers to fire departments in 13 states. We have serviced fire equipment from every state including Alaska, but not Hawaii. Darn, missed that one. As things would happen, my wife had a health issue, visited the wrong doctor and the medical bills piled up. As many of the married quads know, your wife in many cases is your main caregiver. Any funds that had been built up quickly went for my health care and hers. The next several years would take us to a very comfortable lifestyle to living in the red. Well, that is water over the dam. After selling the business to cover our bills around 1995, I continued to manage the business on a part-time basis for the new owner. Unfortunately the new owner did not have a business head on his shoulders. After his business fails around 2005, I continued to service fire pagers on a limited basis. Earlier this year I retired from all of electronics and my 62-year-old brain is trying to learn web site design. Yes, we all have our trials and we all have our triumphants. I just wished they would have given him a chance to see what he could do. He may have found a cure for cancer. We

Re: [QUAD-L] Unidentified subject!
Hello broken leg, I was in approximately the same predicament that you are in. I broke my leg several years ago in three places, just below the knee, just above the ankle, and the third was the small bone. The first thing the doctor asked me was do you want me just to amputate. YEAH RIGHT! This doctor was trying to save another person's leg and it turned into gangrene and needed to be amputated. Sometimes I question in a doctor's intelligence. New doctor: my second opinion Dr. wasn't quite sure what to do and his young casting assistant suggested a Bob Jones cast. This cast is soft cast of cotton batting wrapped thickly of round the leg. The cotton batting was wrapped with Ace bandages and changed every two weeks. It held the bones in place, and no pressure sores from a hard cast. Works for me! Just needed to pick up a few things at my local dollar store and is not unusual to be out most of the day without anybody with me. At first I just thought I must've caught something on my armrest but after asking the cashier the condition of my foot confirmed my suspicions. I have broken my other leg a couple different times but nothing quite like this. Being my independent self I just thought travel across town to get it x-rayed and a sample boot type of support device. Boy was I wrong and somebody that knew what was going on call 911 for me and took a trip in a ambulance. Placing a temporary cast almost all the way to my knee and thinking the orthopedic doctor would put a regular cast after examining me the following day. He is wise thinking the temporary would just do fine and not to worry?? Our personalities and his bedside manner was absolutely horrible or horrifying. I went about after that appointment to get a second opinion and have great difficulties finding a specialist willing to do that. At first they told me my insurance Medicare and Medicaid would not cover that opinion, well at least here in Indiana they do. On a follow-up appointment the bones were all lined up and told me to remain on bed rest. Then three weeks into this waiting game the bones shifted and he was not happy with my attitude with him and vice versa. He gladly sent me to another doctor to deal with this misalignment of bones. I will be having surgery was a nail and screws this coming Thursday and hoping a couple weeks from now to at least get up in my chair? Sorry this post is so long and will be celebrating my 20th anniversary coming up in November 14. Take care and you dear friend. Monty C3/4 complete

[QUAD-L] Old age
Yes, we are going in uncharted territory. In July will be 46 years post SCI I will be 62 years old, but feel like I am younger. There are days when I feel older, but I am lucky enough not to have the pain issue. When I was discharged from the hospital my father was told to take me home, buy me a television and wait for me to die. That was the mind set in 1968. I have been active in the electronics field for 35 years and even though I am retired I continue to volunteer for the historical society, active in church and just generally doing something. The worst thing that we can do is sit around watch television and let our brains go mushy. Do something! Wow! As I write this e-mail I'm looking out the picture window at the Susquehanna River. I am blessed to be watching a mature bald eagle circle over the river at this very moment. One blessing that happens to me when I was in the hospital, I had an alcohol block. This killed my spinal column, taking away the pain and spasms. I don't believe they do that procedure today, but I feel that my life was easier not having to deal with those two issues. I'm going to step outside and watch my eagle, talk to you all later. Glenn Henry G.A.Henry Radio 100 Mill Street Washington Boro, PA 17582

[QUAD-L] Damn it!
Excuse the language. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 each year with in two weeks of May 1, I went to the hospital with either a mucous plug, severe bronchitis, pneumonia whenever they could put on paper is what they called it. I can't remember but in 2011 in 2012 it started with a scratchy throat and sinus drainage. All three years happened after I visited the doctor, and blood tests and really didn't have much of an issue. And here it is, a new year, 2013. Am I about to do it again? On Thursday and Friday evening I had a scratchy throat during the night and morning. During the day it did not seem to be an issue. On Saturday my sinuses started to drain down my throat and now I have this dry hacking cough. It almost feels like a reflex cough. We have forced air heat in the home and I believe the air to be dry. Saturday night I had a humidifier and it may have helped a little, but here it is Tuesday and I feel like crap. I have been taking Musenex for the last 24 hours, not really having much sinus drainage, but I never really had a lot, just a scratchy throat. The reflex seems to be in the center of my chest and it almost feels like I am having minor muscle spasms in my chest. I had blood tests done two weeks ago, the doctor said everything looks good and I felt good. Does anybody have trouble with dry heat? Does this sound familiar to anyone? I had started using my nebulizer, taking cough drops, and Musenex. I have no temperature in my oxygen level is 97. Disgusted in Pennsylvania! Glenn Henry

Second, check out Agenda 21 it scares the crap out of me. Lastly, one of my caregivers, an RN, takes seizure meds. When meeting with the two neurosurgeons she ask about her meds. Under new regulations she can only get a 30 day supply at a time. [QUAD-L] Lateral
Over many years I struggled with very bad posture. I leaned very far to the right and at times found it to be very uncomfortable. The biggest issue I had was while driving and making a left turn. This would cause me to lean even farther. I took a plastic lateral from an old wheelchair that I had salvaged. I took off the metal piece and placed the plastic piece in the corner of the chair, which helped to hold me somewhat straighter, making quite a difference in comfort and when I drive. I also had an issue where my left hip would migrate against the side of the chair. I placed a foam cushion on the left side of my chair before seating and it helps to hold me somewhat straighter. Each body and situation are different and what works for one person may not work for another. Age and gravity are taking its toll, sometimes you just need to give it a gentle nudge the other way. [QUAD-L] Got thar right
Life is what you make it with God's help of course. Tonight is our weekly Prayer Warrior meeting and we will pray for the quads going through depression this week. I'm just coming off 3 day depression that was a dozzie. July 10, 1966, my timeline. In my opinion, God gave me a gift. At the age of 15 I was headed down the wrong road. Coming from a small town there were not many kids to choose from when looking for a friend. Some of my childhood friends chose different paths: Art robbed a bank, committed suicide, Ken, after consuming a few too many drowned, Bob, for some reason took his life at the end of a rope, another Bob, celebrated his graduation by drinking too much, never quite making it to his graduation and Stanley, lifetime sex offender. Then there's me! I guess I was the oddball of the bunch. After spending 2 1/2 years in a state hospital my parents decide there is no further rehabilitation, so they take me home. On the day of my discharge the nurse took my father aside and gave him some advice. Take him home, buy him a television and wait for him to die. This was not a mean comment, this was the mind set of that time period. Sometimes God opens doors, put you at the right place at the right time and in my case it was the CB craze of the 1970's. I started servicing CB radios with the help of two part-time technicians that were attending electronics school. July 10, 2012 I closed a door God opened and am now retired. My life isn't over, it wasn't over in 1966, God just opened different doors. My first door, July 1966, door number 2 in 1995. It's going to be interesting to see what God has behind door number 3. Keep going, it's worth it in the end! Glenn Henry

[QUAD-L] Interesting heat story
Along with my question about temperature, I will share a funny story. It's true! About five years ago we owned property and a summer cabin in central Pennsylvania. Financial issues dictated that we needed to sell my dream property. My wife was working that day and my plan was to take the 2 Hour Drive, spend an hour or two saying goodbye to my dream, then come home. I did not tell my wife where I was doing, but my health aide knew what I was doing and we were in contact by cell phone. Of course I picked the hottest day of the year, 95 in the shade. The trip went fine, I called my health aide before starting back the mountain to let her know I was okay. I had turned off the car to make this call, started the car, started back the driveway and the van quit. There I was in the forest, could not open the ramp because of trees and no cell service. Okay Lord, tell me what to do. I open the side door of the van, got as close to the side as I could, and I got one bar. I called one of my local emergency numbers, they sent a gentleman from a local service station. By the time he got there, the van engine had cooled down, and it started fine. I told him what I was going to do and I would stop by the service station on my way home. I stayed about two hours, had a good cry or two, then started home. Stopping at the service station he once again checked my van and thought everything looked okay. He gave me a can of carburetor starter in case I had any further problems. At this point I was very hot, but because of the van problems I did not run the air conditioner. About half a mile down the road I thought that I would stop at a convenience store, purchase their cheapest cooler, two bags of ice and 12 bottles of water. The longer I was outside in the van, the hotter I was getting. I was getting close to a heat stroke so is trying to stay in the air conditioning as long as I could. It wasn't working real well. I guess I didn't look too good, one of the employees ask if I was okay. I told him that if I passed out, simply wet me down and I would be okay. I told him what would really help would be to sit in his meat locker for a half-hour. Well, I didn't get into the meat locker, but sat in the cutting room for the next 30 minutes. Feeling better, I started my 2 Hour Drive. If anybody has crossed the Clarks Ferry Bridge just outside Harrisburg Pennsylvania, there is always m oderate traffic. I'm crossing the bridge and almost to the other side my van quits. Quickly looking in the rearview mirror, there was no traffic behind me and an exit was just a few hundred feet away. I take the exit and at the bottom is a large stone parking lot being shaded by the overpass. Wow, what a God thing! First, I called the state police, told them I was in no immediate danger but if they have a cruiser in the area, I was handicapped and could have a heat stroke. Next, I called AAA and gave them the information. In the meantime, I opened the cooler, dumped three bottles of water over my head, started eating ice and waited, and waited, and waited. I was there about an hour, AAA never did find me, neither did the state police. In the parking lot people were coming and going and I guess I still looked a little ratty, probably more like a drowned rat. I spotted a state police cruiser coming up the highway and started to go toward the highway, but not fast enough. The two guys that were watching me actually jumped out on the road and started waving their hands. The police cruiser turns around and comes back. My luck, I get an officer that has just come on duty, not a wrinkle in his uniform and hair neatly combed. He puts on his hat, comes over and asked what's the problem. I tell him the story and asked if he would spray the stuff in the carburetor. Well yes, do you have a screwdriver? Yeah right, right here my back pocket. Well he is screwing around under the hood, a redneck in a pickup truck (no gun in the gun rack) pulled up and asked if he could help. Of course Mr. prim and proper allowed him to pull the vent hose. Mr. prim and proper starts to spray into the carburetor area and the can sprung a big time leak all over his nicely laundered trousers with no wrinkles. He starts spitting out obscenities, throws the can in the grass, where it probably is today and said let's see if it starts now. Of course, it started. We later found out it was the fuel pump in the gas tank that was the issue. After he left, I travel the next hour not following the speed limit, thinking I'll get home before anything else happens. Of course by this time at 7 p.m., 10 hours earlier I started my journey, but by now I needed to let my wife know where I was and I dreaded reaching Washington Boro. Sometimes wives can say more by not saying anything! That's my funny story, and I'll stick
