[QUAD-L] changing from aol to sbc yahoo dsl
I put in for a change from AOL to YAHOO DSL today--- I think it will be activated January 30th. I can never stay connected with aol dial up anymore. I know Ron and a few others use this server, Does anyone know if I have to change all of our old screen names ? We have had them for over 8 yearsif so I guess we will just begin new screen names. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] The Pentecostal Family Review
And they are correctin the NAME of the father, son and holy spirit.as you see it say's NAME--- NOT NAMES. I was babtized in the name of the father son and holy spirit and which name is JESUS CHRIST. It can seem very confusing and takes sincere study of the bible for clear revelation and understanding but many scriptures tell us there is but one god. I'm a Father , son and brother but i'm still all me. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Driving
Almost EVERY driver , disabled or not has been in at least one accident..lets face it--Life is full of dangers, there is risk to almost anything, you can get hurt or killed crossing the street--or trip and fall causing serious harm or death. You may stay home to avoid a car accident only to have a jet airliner fall from the sky and hit your home. So my advice is live your life and not be consumed by fearheck we are ALL going to die sooner or later. Dan

[QUAD-L] about google and other search sites.
Do any of you know how to find addresses or phone numbers of old friends on the computer ? I have several old pals i'd like to get in touch with but can not figure out how... It must be more than just typing in their name and state... when I try google it usually shows me all these other sites that want $9.99 to $39.99 for info. Thanks for any that may know. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] about google and other search sites.
Thanks so much Jim, Mark and others for suggesting swithboard and whitepages.com. I have began to find the friends i was looking for on those sites. If a friend is unlisted I guess there is no way to reach them ?? Thanks again ! Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] This is MY way of Praying ~ Anytime
I would say asking or Praying to proper authority matters a lot example... ask 911 or a policeman for help and you GET IT ask a Rock or a Tree and you can forget it... in most cases you will be asking or praying to WRONG subjects forever and never get results. as always this is my belief and humble opinion. I work about 3 hours a day , Mon--Fri. Setting up free appointments with a computer service and support company . They pay me $5.15 an hour plus $25 for any free appointments I can get them. By getting them appointments it creates more business for them because many companies will then use them for services, such as computer updates or repairs and so on. I like the fact that I can work from home and just communicate by computer and phone. Dan

Man, those homes look nice but both husband and wife would have to have fantastic jobs to pay a quarter to 3/4 million ( 250,000 to 350,000 )I'm paying 90,000 for my 3 bedroom 2 bath home here in Missouri , and man it is tough to pay the mortgage and bills plus all utility bills plus keep up with all maintanence and repairs on things. Just my house payment alone with taxes and insurance on it run $ 1,000 per month. Here in Missouri you can buy what I consider a mansion home for 250,000 LOL ! Dan

Re: [QUAD-L] SUPRAPUBIC HELP
Hi, I wear a piece of guaze cut to the center then taped on around the supra-pubic area---how do you wear the drain sponge ? is it the same, just cut and fit it around the tube over the hole? Just curious about the sponge-- wondering if it may be better than taping on guaze pads. Thanks, TA Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Dan
Thanks, Ron.My daughters boyfriend is going to try to get the old bearings out this weekend, If we can get them out i'm sure most bearings the same size will work, I think quickie sells them for $10.50 each, but many people said hardware stores like ACE or many bearing shops carry bearings that will fit. I'll let you know if we can get them out..cause like you said..some rust is involved. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] SUPRAPUBIC HELP
Hi , Paul... I have had a supra-pubic a bit over 5 years now. The hole does not close and the Doctors told me the slight bleeding around it is normal.. if the meaty tissue is excessive the Doctors have some product to dry it up a bit, but told me that a bit of bleeding there is healthy and good so they don't want it to all dry up. Each time I take a shower and at once a month cath changes we put some triple antibiotic around the hole and take a square piece of guaze and cut a slit in it so the cath tube can fit into the center, then just tape it on there---this helps me to keep it clean and will catch any blood or leakage from ever getting on your clothing. good luck, Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Shoes

Re: [QUAD-L] to dan
Yes, Ron - I am sure you are correct that it is the bearings-- now like you said I just need to get vendor to help me find out what replacement bearings I will need. The other chair you mentioned . is it a commode shower chair also ? If it is I will gladly give you $ 125.00 for it, and then perhaps get parts needed and have my old one fixed when I figure out what to order, and my son has time to try and repair it for me. Thanks so much for your help Ron,* Dan* .

[QUAD-L] Need help about my rehab shower commode chair
I have a Guardian rehab commode shower chair made by Sunrise Medical---same company that makes Quickie. Mine is 8 years old and front caster wheels are ok but the part where the fork goes into the holder or hinge has become very wobbly and dangerous---I tried to get my insurance to help fix it or get me a new one but they refused, saying they never cover any of those now. Well the company that repairs all my chairs told me it's an older model and don't want to try and get parts for it.( National Seating and Mobility.) I called Sunrise but the lady there said I could probably get the parts but must know the number or what the parts are called--i'm not sure of that and can't find any pictures and she can't find out either. My back wheels are 24inch like a wheelchair and the front--With the problem is 8inch or a bit over 8. My wife can't hardly get me to the shower and a new one cost $ 900 or more, that we can't afford . ( Does anyone have an idea how I can find out how to get the front end replacement parts ? Thanks so much, Dan

Hi, Many of us in here have a syrinx , yes it does cause more pain and nerve damage, but while a mri can tell if you have it--- it don't help much to find out, because most doctors will not performan operationUNLESS you are loosing more movement or function of your arms or etc. Just trying to let you know that in case you were not aware of that .The neuro doctors informed me that an operation for a syrinx is very serious and dangerous as Lori and John --2 members on this list have had it done are very aware of that fact also. ---BeginMessage--- ---BeginMessage--- For all those who got a flu shot this year or have not done so, read this article below: Jerry Craig Studies have shown that the flu shot has decreased death from the flu among the elderly by0% . Yes, the flu shot has not saved a single elderly person's life to date - at least not that anyone can measure. Furthermore, the chances of a person under age 60 dying of the flu are so slim, they can't even measure whether or not the flu vaccine could save your life, because it happens so rarely, literally millions of people would have to be involved in a clinical trial to determine if it saved any lives at all. Plus, getting a flu shot only reduces your chance of getting the flu from 23% to 19%. (And if they guess wrong about which strains will be circulating this year, which has happened a few times over the past 10 years, it won't reduce your chances at all.) [QUAD-L] About A.D. = Autonomic Dysflexia
There was a guy that used to post here that said he thought his room-mate died from AD. Have any of you ever heard of anyone dying from it ? I have only got AD. twice in the 8 1/2 years that i have been paralyzed. The 1st time was almost 2 years ago when i got a bad psuedamonas uti infection. Then now I started getting AD. real bad and had to go into the Hospital for same infection--- I just got home 2 days ago from the Hospital and many IV drugs. They gave me pain pills to help with my AD. After my 1st bad psuedamonas infection I kept getting AD. on and off for nearly a week, This Time I'm still getting it also so I hope it will go away in a few more days. My question is---Many doctors are not real familiar with AD.-- A scary thought comes to my mind--- what if it don't go away or doctors can't find what's causing itI guess it can kill a person. For those that never had it yet---It is severe pounding and sharp pain in head that can keep increasing. Thanks, Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Dan
Hi, Ron - I think I'm getting better, I sure hope so, I'm still a bit weak from all the meds and stay in the hospital. The amitriptyline seems to help, at first 10 mg really knocked me out now it don't seem to have near as strong an effect but I can raise to stronger if i need to. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] About A.D. = Autonomic Dysflexia

Re: [QUAD-L] About A.D. = Autonomic Dysflexia
Ok, Thanks Markalso Tony who used to be on here thought a room mate of his may have died from AD also.I think usually they can find the cause and get it to stop but I guess in some cases it could cause death. Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Hi Dan
Hi Ron, good to hear from you. I'm pretty much the same as you on meds. I take 10mg of amitriptyline ( elavil ) every night to help with pain and sleeping-- Doctor Wice said in the future I can increase the dosage from 10mg to higher if I need to. Like You I will take Lorazapam at times I feel it's needed. My family Doc also gives me vicadin to help on day's that pain if severe. My brother was curious about quad pains, I explained to him that we learn to live with much pain and that what we deal with most every day would probably be a big shock to a healthy non paralyzed person. Hi, welcome to the list, Does your Dad use the computer himself ? Using the computer has been a major help for most of usI'm a c-6 but many here are higher level quads like your dad. They use Dragon Dictate and other methods of voice recognition to use their computers. It is nice for communication, learning and very many good game sites...scrabble, chess, checkers trivia and hundreds of other games. Plus many sites to read other quads links and web sites telling their stories and so on. Also if he can get out going places like a park-museum-zoo- church or etc. can be a big help. The 1st year and in some cases longer can be the worst while learning to live and cope with being a quad survivor. God bless...Dan
[QUAD-L] about beds
Have any of you ever tried a select comfort bed...you may have seen them on tv, many malls carry them too. They have numbers to adjust firmness levels. I'm thinking of looking into one..my firm regular bed is beginning to kill my shoulder and neck muscles feels like the springs are pushing back at me lol. I bought a $300 dollar memory foam matress topper for my bed but it only helped a bit for about 2 months. Dan

Re: [QUAD-L] Dan - Pseudomonas UTI
Hi Lori, My family doctor has gave me 7 sample packs of Levequin , but they are only 250mg, so I hope I don't get immune to levequin. He said he will look at my blood sample probaby tomorrow and see what he thinks from there. When I 1st got a supra pubic catheter put in about 5 years ago My Urologist Insisted I take cipro 250mg for 1 full year---I told him I felt very afraid of taking antibiotics for a YEARHe said oh go ahead 250mg a day can't hurt you. Well come to find out now I'm resistant to cipro... I wonder if that UROLOGIST knew what he was talking about.Anyway hope we get better--- By the way Lori did you ever try that Bladder Flush again that you took years back??? I think you called it CLORPACTIN or something like that. Thanks, Dan c-6 8 yrs, 2 months.- Car wreck

[QUAD-L] Lori, and others with indwelling type caths.
Lori, I know you had quite a problem with a PROTEUS infection. I had a very serious PSEUDAMONAS infection that put in into the hospital for 1 week on IV drugs about a year and a half back, that my Urologist said he knew about but wanted to let it go, to see if I could get better on my own.Well it really messed me up and destroyed much of my white blood cells back then. NOW this Urologist say's I must go to my family Doc for all bladder infections. Well my family Doctor just told me I got Pseudamoas AGAIN Today ! He wants to try and treat it with ORAL anti-biotics -- Levequin. Do any of you know if the more serious types of bacteria can be treated like that or do they require IV Drugs ?? I'm Lost and confused on this...as my Doctors seem unsure themselves. I just gave blood today to see if my blood cells are messed up again Thanks, Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] Dan - Levaquin
Thanks, Lori and others for your input on this. I live in Missouri in a suburb area outside of St. Louis . Yes, I agree the medical costs can drive you nuts Lori, My wife pay's $ 75 per week out of her salary for ours and they told us it's going up in January., Plus we still pay $20 for each Doc visit and $20 per prescription plus a percent on hospital stay's...I tell you the common folks are going under these day's. Anyway good luck -- hope these infection problems give us a break soon. ;-( Dan

True Lori, and another weird point about 911 and the World Trade Center is...just about 4 years before the 911 attack , the same group headed by Bin Ladin had tried to blow those towers up then...but did not succeed and killed about 6 people , but caused massive damage to the twin towers lower levels. [QUAD-L] Wanted Fugitives from hurricane Area
Our newspaper here in St. Louis, Mo. said that in just on spot check of people taken in at Alton, Illinoisabout 35 minutes from here, that 162 at this location are known wanted fugitives from the law. This is just one group of the refugees from the hurricane, I guess having criminals of Any race mixed into the refugee population at all the help locations is going to be a big problem.Too bad the criminals can't be sorted out and put in jail where they belong, and keep them from getting money and free aid they do not deserve.but the system is overwhelmed right now and will take time if ever to catch many of them --plus many are in completely different States than where they are Wanted Fugitives. Yes there are some amazing people on this list, I really admire all the higher quads on here that have no use of their arms and/or on a vent,( Many times I get so frustrated being a c-6 and having use of my arms and not needing a vent..)that my heart goes out to those on here like that because I was like that for over 2 months myself. I eventually got back arm movement but I remember how tough that can be.Like you said what don't kill us makes us stronger. You never know what all you can handle in this life sometimes until you have no other choice. God bless you all ! Dan

Re: [QUAD-L] SureHands
I use a Waverly-Glen lift.we were using a full sling that had to stay under me while in my chair, I hated it. But by me being a c-6 and have arm movement I got a 2 piece strap type sling, one goes under my legs or butt and the other goes around my back and under my arms..I love this , it goes on or completely off in seconds. Re: [QUAD-L] SureHands
Vocational Rehab paid for my overhead lift and my remote door opener... they were not able to find me a job , but by trying and getting evaluated they will help , depending on your states Vocational Rehab. Later I found a part time job on my own, that I stilldoto help get extra income. Dan

Re: [QUAD-L] bowel mgmt
I am curious about the Magic Bullets you guy's talk about...I have been using ducolax or walgreens brand suppositories for 8 years..Do you guy's think Magic Bullets work better or may be better because as you mentioned they are water based ?? I'm wondering if I should try them. Thanks, Dan
Re: [QUAD-L] bowel mgmt-- ( Disreguard 1st reply-I found answer )
Ok, I went to the sites you guy's gave and they explained a bit about the magic bullet and how it may be safe plus faster acting due to the water base..Thanks, for the info, i'll give them a try in the future. Dan
