I have invacare storm series but invacare went bankrupt, and dealer wants me to
switch to Quantum R-TRAK rear wheel drive.Does anybody with ezlock have one for
quantum chair?

I heard that ezlock is making one for R-TRAK but I do not see it on their list

Here is list from Ezlock.

riders using powered chairs. I would consider going directly to EZ Lock

I want to be able to use my manual chair and was advised that I would need the

One last thought, the salesman/company who recommended the new lock down system

the new system( qstraint)

Then weeks later flipped on me and said because of liability the only chair I
could drive from would be my manual chair, and could no longer use the

( many months ago also he told me this is just between you and I, but we looked

Not sure if this going to help or confuse anyone but here it goes. More than a
decade ago, I met a Dr Tom at a conference in Atlanta. I believe that he was
from Florida, at the time. Back then he was representing a product called
UROCYCLER. It was not an indwelling cath, but an accessory for those with
indwelling catheters. The theory behind its design and function seemed like it
might be good for some, but not everyone. It is a ceramic device that
connected between the indwelling catheter and collection bag. It allows urine
to collect in the bladder until pressure builds up and then the magnets
separate, allowing the urine to leave the bladder... under turbulence, to empty
the bladder.

Has anyone heard of this system? You can Google, UROCYCLE and see for
yourselves.

i do this twice a day (once morning, once bedtime) for about 3 days at it makes
a huge difference. I wouldn't consider it a miracle cure, but it seems to take

Hi Shirey,

I’ve had an indwelling cath for 25 years. Minimal problems. Do you irrigate it?

I irrigate in the morning and at night. Is sediment stopping it up?

If so could be a bladder stone. Do you have a UTI? That can cause spasms.

Hope you get it figured out soon.

My condolences to Greg and his family. I had never spoken to him, when Dana was

if I'm remembering correctly he had breathing problems. She had not been able
to get a hold of him. Thank you for posting about his photography career. I
think it would be good if we could list all the people on the group that we've
lost and how did they die. Several of them I didn't know the cause. Several
seem to be sores. I think it would be great if we would share more about each
other and how we fight different complications of spinal cord injury. I know
sepsis can be a serious complication. I hhave had sepsis too many times. I
believe that was a complication of Christopher Reeves. It can take you down so
fast if you don't catch it soon enough. It will be 2 years since I had in June,
caused by UTI infections. I can't remember the young girl's name, but she was a
paralyzed journalist that died from sepsis. Several did not have adequate care.
I feel like if the country can send millions of dollars to other countries and
we don't even know if that money needed is legitimate. Persons with
disabilities, where there they be car accidents, diving and many of the
diseases that don't have a cure or veterans should have more adequate care to
prevent these deaths.Forgive me of my speaking out of turn. I'm Proud of his
ability to learn how to use his photography. One of the quads had come to my
hospital to try to speak to me about getting a ventilator, because that's what
he had. He died because his ventilator fell off during the night because he
didn't have any night support. He was a peer counselor for the whole person, an
independent living center in Kansas City. He chose to live independently even
though he didn't have enough care. Some people don't qualify for enough care
because of their income Being a little too high for Medicaid Eligibility. To my
knowledge Medicare doesn't cover in-home care. After I have gotten out of the
hospital a physical therapist or nurse might be able to come for a week. I have
to limit my time in the chair, because of her persistent pressure area. If we
are injured at a young age we get osteoporosis, causing bones breaking that
cannot be operated on.. It's good to remember those that have been lost,
because on this group we care about each other. Dana

I've been vaccinated and even went in for a booster third shot recently. I got

Lori and I emailed and talked on the phone. She had written me in June and I
saw the email after I got out of the hospital and then I had to go back to the
hospital for exploratory surgery. I wrote her but didn't hear back from her. I
should've tried calling her, because in her letter she didn't know where she
was going and she was trying to find a home for her beautiful dog. She had
medical issues from the nurse that was improper and not sterile, sringmylia that
cause pain, like Julie said being uprooted from her sisters home. I don't think
they understood or liked her having caregivers coming in and out of the house.
It's what a lot of us face when we don't have enough care. She receives Social
Security from her husband and her own but it wasn't enough to pay caregivers,
her apartment and living expenses. She wasn't able to get any help from the
state. She loved her scrapbooking and her dog that she walked every day. She
had a great caregiver and after she left she got a new one, but they were
leaving. We were trying to find out everywhere we could post an ad. It is often
so difficult to find specially if you have limited funds. This is what happens
to a lot of quadriplegics and why they get sores and die. I wish they would do
a study on this but with the current administration, I don't think they would
do anything to help situations like this. I don't know what kind of care is
available in the state of Arizona. I don't know if there's anybody else on the
quad list that lives in Arizona She had a wonderful niece that would spend time
with her, but she lived out-of-state, maybe Texas. I'd have to look up in my
old letters about specifics. I loved her and enjoyed talking on the phone and
emailing her. I will truly miss her. I lived in a nursing home for three years
and it is a long story. All home facilities don't know how to take care of
quadriplegics and don't have the staff. It's like a death sentence to go to a
nursing home after living independently all your life and having a dog that you
dearly loved. I pray that she died in her sleep and didn't have to suffer. I
don't know that we will find out what the cause of death was. We have lost
quite a few persons that I miss. it seems. I'm not familiar with you Julie. I'm
on Facebook. I've always enjoyed the quad list and learning about other persons
facing the same problems and learning from them. Dana, 47 years post, C4-5,
tracheostomy, ileoconduit. Those of the hospital for 10 days for two kidney
infections, sepsis and ammonia in June. Several weeks after that I had
exploratory surgery to find the kidney stones. My urologist couldn't find
kidney stones. . I have tubes hooked up to my kidneys that are turned off right
now. My kidneys were not draining properly. Has anyone else ever had this
problem. I'm assuming I will have to go back to the kidney doctor. My urologist
could only use the camera in the ileoconduit and ureters not the kidneys. Three
weeks ago I ran out of the suction catheters. The company they switched me to
would not answer the phone. Thanks to Jim Lubin, he gave me the name of the
company he uses, and I hope they will be shipping to me soon, before I run out
of the ones I had to buy privately. I contacted for five different companies
and none of them answered me. I don't have very many left.

We can write on Lori's Facebook page. Lori will be missed, she was such a good
communicator about her life. Let's make a list of those we have lost on the
quad list. We can remember them again.

I believe she said her parents were deceased and she had no choice but to go it
alone and decided on Phoenix area for the climate I think.

I know she had medical complications with her bladder that she said was from a
nurse’s poor handling of the inflated bulb of her then foley catheter.

This resulted in trauma to her urethra that caused problems and
hospitalizations and ultimately she got a Suprapubic catheter I believe.

Please someone correct me if I’m getting it wrong and fill in what details I’m

The last I remember was she was in urgent need of a live in caregiver

I do have Alexa now, mostly lights, a phone call now and then, etc.
Do any of you have a TV with these functions?
How well does it work for you, do you prefer Alexa or Google?
Is Alexa or Google more user-friendly for a hands-free operation?
Are there other options I should be aware of?

If anybody has a TV with the Alexa and Google function, which TV do you own?
Do or don't you like it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

new tires thankfully it held air (and if it lost any air I have an air pump)
and then we put Slime on the tire until I could get new tires.

They were finally gotten and put on yesterday but riding on these solid tires
is a NIGHTMARE. I live in an area where most everywhere has smooth walkways
(without having to resort to sidewalks) and I went out today for one of my many
walks and it hurt like hell. Right up my spine and then giving me a headache.
Looks like now I can even enjoy a walk.

So, I was wondering if all of you have solid tires now?

Thanks!

I live in a rural area, population of 2,500 for my city. We were hit hard in
December and it was our places of worship that had breakouts. 6 deaths.

My risk is caregivers. I have stayed home.

Cipro is my go to drug for UTI’s but maybe only twice a year.

Stay well

All drugs have side effects, and long term issues can show up in even old
drugs. I used Cipro for years and now they say not to use it if you can find
other option.

If I lived in a rural area, not hard hit, I might pass for awhile.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a young girl who puts me in bed and

My dr told me if I even think I have it call his cell phone and go nowhere else

Nobody knows the long term effects of the virus or vaccine. Just all so crazy.

Nichole,

Honestly thought I had a bad cold or the flu. This was in March, so the 'scare'
had just begun. I was scared sh!tl3$$ for the whole week I was down. As a C4-5,
I spent most nights doubled over my legs 'assist-coughing' myself. Avoiding the
news to keep from panicking. My symptoms: Runny nose, cough, fever (101-102),
wet cough, loss of taste. Didn't confirm it was Covid-19 until I had blood
tested in October. It wasn't fun, but similar to having the flu. DO NOT take
this as an example of what you may go through. I take a good number of vitamins
and nutritionals daily, really watch my diet, and have always had a naturally
strong immune system.

My concern is the lack of testing and gross neglect of accountability allowed
in emergency medicine. I hope to God I'm wrong, but I fear the impact of this
particular 'vaccine' down the road.

Currently, several COVID-19 vaccines are in clinical trials. The FDA will
review the results of these trials before approving COVID-19 vaccines for use.
But because there is an urgent need for COVID-19 vaccines and the FDA's vaccine
approval process can take months to years, the FDA will first be giving
emergency use authorization to COVID-19 vaccines based on less data than is
normally required. The data must show that the vaccines are safe and effective

Eric,

I am growing much more concerned,. My granddaughter is in the hospital in Guam
(son-in-law is military) They say she has pneumonia but haven’t tested her for
COVID-19. Guam has 3 reported cases. They are waiting to get blood cultures
back. They were to move back to the states the beginning of May and now the
military is restricted from travel until May 11 for now. They will have to self
quarantine when they get back. They were supposed to stay with me for 30 days
and now who knows when I’ll get to see them.

didn't have to rely on others for care, I wouldn't worry. Now I worry about a
caregiver getting me sick AND caregivers getting sick and not being able to
work. Hands down the worst part of being disabled is having to be dependent on
others for care.

Jeff,

With our compromised lungs I am just curious who is afraid of getting it. Do
you feel at risk or are you in a hot spot? Not worried at all?

I am more likely to get the flu but like I said, I stay home mostly so my
exposure to flu is pretty low.

However, my daughter and family live in Guam (Military) and they are supposed
to be moving back the 1st week of May.

Their travel will be military flights to Seattle then commercial to Oklahoma.
They are staying with me 30 days.

Now their move might be postponed. So many things cancelled in OK and we only
have 3 cases I think.

I've been in-out of the hospital again. 1st time 2 was for months.

Butt sore, Bone infection, (antibiotics caused), Kidney failure – Respiratory
failure (dialysis and ventilator). Finely weaned off both.

Since then I've had 4 ER 1 day visits, a 12, 7, 5, 5, and a 3 day visit.

A number of other bad issues, but mostly my lung keeps getting fluid around it.
(Pleural Effusion) Had to drain it a few times a week. Finely had surgery.
Looks ok now.

I lost so much weight and strength, I couldn't take big enough breaths at night
to get rid of all the C02. Id sleep in my chair all day, no one could wake me
up. My CO2 levels were in the 80s, supposed to be in the 30s. Other times I
would act normal for a few days, but then remember nothing.

So now I have to use a feeding tube at night and eat during the day. Plus I
need to use a Bipap machine to make me breath deeper at night.

Thanks for everyone's concern. In a nutshell...
His kidney biopsy reveals that they have completely shut down and no meds can
reverse it. So he will probably need dialysis 3 times a week for life, but
there is always hope that things will reverse. They continually need to drain
fluid from around his lungs. Almost 2 liters on two different occasions and
almost one on another. They recently inserted a semi permanent valve to make it
easier and less invasive to drain fluid if needed. He might need to come home
with a trach. The lung dr seems to think so, but might only need to be hooked
up to a respirator at night. He looks better today. We don't know how long he
will be in hospital.

Hate to hear you’re having problems and I can’t offer much advice other than I

Subject: [QUAD-L] Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in the urine

Hey everyone...

Has anyone else had Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) found in their urine and their
urologist being too complacent about not getting rid of it?

After a bladder biopsy done died on February 23 (outpatient procedure) and less
than a week later I began to have my usual bladder infection symptoms (SEVERE
bladder and flank pain) so I requested a culture and sensitivity be done and,
sure enough it was positive for, this time, the superbug. They only put me on a
week of Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid) 100 mg, twice a day. From what I have read
and what I know about Macrobid it does work on some gram-negative bacteria but
it is also more of a prophylactic antibiotic.

Unfortunately, after I requested a follow-up urine (and had symptoms) it had
not gone away. My urologist does not like to do follow-up urine cultures which
I think is ridiculous because one would think they would like to know if the
antibiotic worked.

For those of you who don't know... MRSA is mostly found in hospitals and
nursing homes and therefore a nosocomial infection (hospital acquired or clinic
acquired) but I can't make use my urologist of giving it to me when it is just
too coincidental that I get it less than a week after being in the hospital for
the outpatient procedure.

My urologist's staff is absolutely horrible at getting back to you and this has
been a problem from the beginning. I have brought it up several times and they
have admitted it and say they are trying to improve it but it only gets worse.
Yes, I would try looking for another urologist but this is the one who did my
bladder neck closure back in June of 2018 which I was forced into because of
the nurse stretching my urethra beyond repair and now having an SP catheter. If
something were to go wrong with the bladder neck closure... there are very few
of them in my town if there are any others (and I have looked) he would be this
surgeon to look into it.

He is known as one of the best in Arizona and I have been told that people come
from all over Arizona and a couple from New Mexico because he is such a good
surgeon. I am sure he is a good surgeon but as far as needing him for other
things or being sensitive to my needs as I know my body best after 38 years and
learning tons from my husband since he went to medical school and was a chief
medical technologist and dealt with all kinds of bacterium whether it be in the
urine or the blood.

Below is the best information I have found bread regarding Staphylococcus
Aureus (MRSA) and treating it. Since has staff was so poor at communication I
wanted me to go to my primary care physician if I had any symptoms and that's
what I did. I was doing pretty good until after being in the hospital and then
getting MRSA less than a week after being in the hospital. I sent him a message
in the patient portal because I had asked his office to order the culture and
sensitivity this time around hoping that their communication issues had been
resolved. I basically told him that I thought, since it had not gone away with
Nitrofurantoin that a more aggressive approach should take place. This is what
he wrote back:

"The appointment to see you is to further discuss your biopsy results and your
overall urologic management which is not going well in my opinion with
essentially constant infections. I'd like to discuss this in person and not on
the phone or email."

What I had sent him in part is this:

"However, from what I have been reading, I don't feel confident it will work
with that type of diagnosis. Cipro was listed in my Culture and Sensitivity
Report as well as Vancomycin and others. As MRSA is extremely resistant, I
would like to hear from you what would be the best approach, in your opinion.
The earlier the appropriate diagnosis and therapy is instituted for MRSA, the
better the prognosis.

I have read that… “the majority of serious MRSA infections are treated with two
or more intravenous antibiotics that, in combination, often are still effective
against MRSA (for example, vancomycin, linezolid, rifampin,
sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and others). I just want to be proactive and get
appropriate treatment. I am contacting you simply due to the lack of
communication from your staff.

I am doing OK right now and have a little over another week of Nitrofurantoin
(Macrobid) to take (100 mg twice a day), but my question is if this is the best
course of action, in your opinion?"

My shoulder blade hurts so bad I feel sick. Its like a knife is sticking under
there prying it up. It comes and goes for years now. I’ve been to every type of
doctor and had every test. They can’t find a cause. My guess would be pinched
nerve, but they tested for that. Had me hooked up to a bunch of electrodes.
Catscan, MRI, Xray, Ultrasound, etc. It can be gone for weeks, but then show up
for hours, days, weeks, etc.

My sister had a similar problem and it turned out it was her Thyroid. Who knew
your Thyroid could hurt your shoulder blade. But I was tested for that a few
times.

I'm on pretty good pain meds for other things, but it does not even dent this.

Merry

Christmas

It is Christmas, well technically Christmas Eve, and if you are offended at
what I say, perhaps you will read my whole post and know my story a little
better.

 First,
Merry Christmas,
happy Hanukkah,
happy Kwanzaa,
happy happy happy.

Okay, I’m one of those that believe that Donald Trump is doing a fantastic job
even
though the fake news media is doing their best to discredit everything that the
majority of this country was built upon and believes in. For those that say the
quad site is not for religion, politics or a Merry Christmas, go pound sand,
better yet stick your head under it and come out in eight years.

Now, I’m going to say what I intend. I'm free, live in the United States of
America, the greatest nation on earth and at the moment have free speech. I
have been on the quad site most of 12 to 14 years, if not more and enjoyed the
posts that came across, found many helpful and I was able to help other people
that posted. I’m proud of who I am, what I’ve accomplished in my life and
scared of the road that I need to travel. I have this road close to my house
that I call my Prayer Road. When I have an issue I will travel this road to
think and pray. I was traveling that road in 1996 praying for an answer to
prayer because of a decision I needed to make. My mother was put on a
ventilator and a decision needed to be made to continue. Being the only
surviving child the weight fell on my shoulders and that was the issue I was
praying about. I know the spot that an audible voice told me “don’t worry she
is already with me.” That is something I will never forget.

I still travel that road when I have an issue to think or pray about, but I
look at the road a little different. About two thirds of the way on this road,
I look back. What I see is a stone road that I traveled many times. This road
is now paved, but in my mind I can still see a stone road and small concrete
bridge. This road I traveled hundreds of times on the way to “the old swimming
hole”. Oh yes, the old swimming hole, many of us have areas like this, many of
the kids that swam there also tried their first cigarette or other first. Mine
was a small corncob pipe, tobacco was cherry blend half-and-half. As I look
back the road I treasure the memories of the swimming hole and probably the
best hunting for small game in the area. I took many a rabbit and squirrel from
that road. Gone is the stone road, much of the trees and brush, remaining sweet
memories.

Today on that same road after I have looked back, I look forward. The road
goes up a small hill and bears to the left. If you are new to that road wonder,
what is ahead, what will I need to go through.

I know what I find for I elected to follow that road many years ago. However,
the thought of what is ahead and how will I handle it is the million-dollar
question.

A few months ago someone made the comment about ending their life, but stated
that they probably would not have the strength to go through that. It is not
srength to end your life, I know that all too well. Yes, it is going to end
your suffering and Lord knows I’ve suffered too. I’ve also gone through pain
when a brother committed suicide and I know firsthand what it does to those
around you. My nephew to this day has to be on medication for depression. If he
does not take his medicine they may find him laying on the floor rolled up in a
ball. My brother was a police officer, was on solo patrol and watched
helplessly as his best friends father, a damn drunk, stepped out from the
backside of a telephone pole into the path of a car, to commit suicide. My
brother tried to get him out and resuscitate him, but no go. The year was 1975
and thinking about actions like this were totally different. The police
department gave a few counseling sessions, but basically told him not to think
about it or talk about it and eventually it will go away. Well, just about a
year later it went away and so does my brother. I am mad at the police
department, or basically the people that were in charge of that time, but I met
her at my brother. At my time of life I need someone that I can share with, and
certain things cannot be shared and understood unless it is a sibling or very
long-standing friend.

My accident was 1966, so that makes me almost 52 years post SCI. In those 52
years I started out with two small businesses, the first making Christmas
decorations and the second selling hunting and fishing equipment. I always had
a very strong urge to go into the electronics field. I don’t know why, but
looking back it was a God thing. The Pennsylvania Bureau of rehabilitation
would not pay for schooling for electronics. I said,

everything around it, not waning to go out those days incase issues after.
Then worse, I started leaking, just enough to smell. I finely 'bagged it'
and got a colostomy. The only thing wrong was I didn't do it years ago.
Quality of life s s much better, but not just for me, but for family and
helper. What use to take 2 hours, now takes 30 seconds. Just pop the bag
off, wipe clean, pop new bag on. It takes maybe 1 minute when dong a full
change, every 5 days. J`ust unstick the wafer part, wipe clean, stick new
one on.

In 2 or 3 years now, no real issues. A few times it unsnapped, not put on
good enough. And you can hear farts more, not often, or I'm lucky.

Life changing. I heard of people having issues with sores, but I never have.
Only once. I was on strong antibiotics, had diarrhea (liquid). I didn't
change the bag often enough, burned my skin a bit. My fault.

The 2 main supply makers send you free sample anytime you want to try
different types. So you can try until you find a style you like. Send you
nice travel bags to hold your supplies.

It's just very frustrating because I mentioned while at a seating clinic a week
ago that I needed my anti-tip bars raised and a new gooseneck for my sip and
puff chair. The anti-tip bars were adjusted at the seating clinic. Without even
making an appointment, someone from my chair tech company showed up yesterday
and, while telling me he had the gooseneck listed on his paperwork to be
ordered, he checked the date of the batteries, which seemed to be working fine,
but they know my insurance will pay for new ones, checked my tires, which also
seem fine, but they'll probably order new ones because my insurance will pay,
and I don't know what else he did because I was taking a break from working
just to deal with all this stuff.

I made the ultimate decision, but I was steered away from purchasing my third
Invacare chair in a row. The chair they steered me towards? It turned out to
have a major flaw and, instead of replacing it, I told them I didn't want that
brand. Again, I let them steer me away from Invacare, and now I have a chair
that's had its share of issues, still does, doesn't go as far as it should on a
full charge, which I complained about early on, but they don't look at the
things you are mentioning, Wheelchair. Instead, it's replace batteries, try
different batteries if the replacements don't make a difference, and do
everything – it seems – but what it really takes to make it work properly. The
biggest issue, in my opinion, is they don't "live" in a wheelchair. I realize
they have to make money but this is just kind of messed up… Jeff

Without a certified tech, your chair is just a fancy, expensive, flashlight.
Does not sound like your batteries are the issue, but rather are suffering the
effects of a component failure. For example if the magnetic brakes have
internal issues, each manufacturer requires that the motor assembly, which
includes the magnetic brakes, motor and gearbox be replaced. Also when
replacing a motor assembly, both motors are replaced for even movement of the
chair. There is a lot more to it and I hope you find a certified tech.

2017-08-02 Thread Nichole Rohling
Found two posts I made regarding batteries showing full but couldn’t hardly go
out of my house…….would say charge batteries when going over a threshold or
incline

I had the same problem last year beginning in March. The batteries were
replaced 4 times. After asking in May to replace anything relating to charging
the batteries the company finally replaced the charger (in October, didn’t fix
it) then battery boxes, the joystick and the 2-prong thing that the battery box
slides into on the chair in December. Haven’t had a problem since (knock on
wood).

Best of luck, it is so dang frustrating

Nicki

Greg,

I think we are in the same boat! I just had my 4th set of batteries put in
Monday since March. All of a sudden my chair was stopping saying “low battery”.
I would turn it off then on and go a few feet and repeat. Joystick shows full
battery charge. Woke up in March and my house smelled like rotten eggs. I paid
out of pocket for what they said were gel batteries from a battery supplier
because I had to have them that day. $352 worth. In June, same thing with my
chair stopping saying low battery but joystick shows full charge (I use my
chair very little). They swapped out batteries at no charge but said it had to
be my chair. DME company came out right after 4th of July and ordered new
batteries and new charger. Got them Sept 9, they said what I had was not true
gel cell . Last week, same thing, low battery and chair stopping even though
joystick shows full charge. We ordered new battery boxes, receptacles, joystick
and they warrantied my batteries but by the time parts get here these batteries
will be shot and I’ll have to pay out of pocket again. My chair is 8 yrs old
and new chair process is on hold until medicare covers parts. Soo
frustrated the DME company drug their feet on parts and really trying to
troubleshoot the problem. I asked in July to order anything it could possibly
be. I did call Invacare and they said DME company should have brought
programmer to see fault codes so I called them and asked that he please bring
it. Really didn’t tell much other than I’m having low batteries.

I feel your pain and good luck!

Spoken with them a few times and today they said they will have their rep for
my area call me, only downfall is she is on vacation until the 31st. Hoping
she’ll call while on vacation J and can speak with the vendor too.

I would like to call the FDA but not sure who/where/division I would need to
call. Hopefully rep can tell me.

Why not call Invacare directly and get the story from them. Tell them what you
want and why you want to. Let them pull while you are pushing. BTW, who's the
customer anyway? Customer, is always right. Call Medicare/Medicaid in your
state and let them know what the provider is doing to you.

I sold the posting last week for 31 years, mine is 51 on July 10.

A lot of water has gone over the dam sinc the day, I married and remain so
today, three stepchildren, nine grandchildren and one dog.

When one door was slammed shut, it seemed that God would open another. I
operated a successful electronics business for 30 years, acquired some rental
properties, built a second home in the mountains and life was good.

It was good. I crossed the threshold about two years ago and now I believe I
have traded quality for quantity. I probably will be facing surgery in the
future and I don't believe I could expect a good outcome.

I sometimes sit at a local Riverpark and think how easy it would be to roll
down the windows of the van and drive into the drink. No, that won't happen.
I've seen firsthand what suicide does to those left behind. My brother was a
police officer and on his first solo patrol watched his best friend's father
step out in front of the car an committed suicide. He could only watch it
happen and couldn't do anything about it. The thinking back then from the
police department, keep your mouth shut don't talk about it and it wil go away.
It went away, or more so he did.

I've had a good life and don't regret much. I used to always make the statement
if God would have only given me one good hand, how much farther I could've
gone. well, then I went to an event, sat with a fellow quad and his wife
needed to feed him. I promise God right there and then I would never make that
statement again.

Will I be here for 52, only God knows that. I do know that I made an influence
on many people's lives and God used me in ways I could never have dreamed.

Take care and hang in there, let's see about 52.

Have you considered calling your local CMS Office and asking for a written copy

Definitely a must for me.

My last 2 chairs have been invacare storm series also with rear wheel drive, I
just had to get a new chair and wanted the same, since they work for us plus
fit in our mini astro wheelchair van..They told me everyone including
invacare is getting away from the rear wheel drive chairs, so my supplier
ordered me a chair from Pride Mobility that still makes a rear wheel drive,
They use Quantam Electronics I think. So far I am very happy with this new
chair except my legs are so long that I don't have very much clearance from the
floor...so I have to recline back a few inches when going over ramps, thresholds
or outside, I'm now used to that but most people would not have this problem
probably. I love the Electronics...they have a quick change button that can
switch from tilt/leg lift or back into drive and then 4 speeds of drive, this
chair is fast goes 7.5 mph. It even has a built in clock and how many miles you
driveSince I got it in February I have put 91.3 miles on it. The tires are
extremely good and show zero wear so far.( my invacare tires would be at
least a quarter of the way worn out already) so these must be very well made.
I now have my last chair going as a back up but my old back up chair I am
giving away if anyone wants it or needs partsIt works and has the charger
with it but has set so long It would need the batteries replaced...It is also
and invacare storm rear wheel drive chair with tilt and leg lift, there is a
place online called Wholesare batteries that sells all the same batteries we
need for much, much cheaper than the suppliers do. Dan H. St. Louis, Mo. area.

Thank you for your input!! I called Invacare last fall so looks like I’ll be
calling again. I know my vendor has

An issue w/ Invacare because they started shipping parts orders together
instead of separated.

I think that's BS. Go to the Invacare site. Last time I went there they were
fine. It may take more to get what you want but get what you want. I didn't.
I listened to a specific individual who steered me away from Invacare, even
though my last two chairs were Invacare and I loved them. Don't settle. Do
research.

RE: [QUAD-L] Pressure wound advice

2017-05-18 Thread Nichole Rohling
I have an air bed mattress that lays on top of a regular bed but recently had
the beginning of a sore on my tailbone. We took foam from a mattress overlay
and double layered it. We cut a circle out of it and placed under me at night
so there is no pressure at all on the tailbone. It healed rather quickly.

I have a Stage 4 pressure wound on my tailbone – my first ever! Doc is
recommending a Wound Vac and perhaps a "low air loss" bed mattress. Anybody
have any experience with either? How am I going to function with a Wound Vac
attached to my butt? Do they work quickly? Also,I don't have a hospital bed –
I share a regular queen-size mattress with my wife – so I'm not eager to make
my bedroom into a hospital room. What sort of beds do you all use? Maybe a Roho
overlay would be good enough?

Thanks for your thoughts.

RE: [QUAD-L] Battery Drain?

2017-05-11 Thread Nichole Rohling
I had the same problem last year beginning in March. The batteries were
replaced 4 times. After asking in May to replace anything relating to
charging the batteries the company finally replaced the charger (in October,
didn't fix it) then battery boxes, the joystick and the 2-prong thing that
the battery box slides into on the chair in December. Haven't had a problem
since (knock on wood).

Best of luck, it is so dang frustrating

My batteries wont hold a charge. I can't go more than a few streets now.
Changed batteries, twice. Now waiting for a new joystick. I'm hoping it's
causing a power drain. Trying to fix it before I get a new chair.

Any ideas to have them look at or check?

What can drain power so fast? It says it's fully charged.

Okay,

Could someone please tell me what type of Camelbac system would work best for
me with all that I need?

I would need it to have a long flexible tube that would wrap around the top of
my bed and reach my mouth. Because my neck was used... I can't turn my head
barely at all either left or right.

Of course someone can get the original Camelbac water bottle but then where do
I get the extension tubing THAT GOES ALONG WITH IT AS WELL as the clip so
everything works together smoothly and is not complicated?

I used to have a huge support system but now I am out on my own so I need to
find exactly what would work for me, get it ordered and wala!

Thank you!

Danny,

I too use a CamelBak in bed at night. I have use of my arms so I can reach
the tube and get it to my mouth but I feel

The tube could be clipped near your head as long as you can turn your head.

I get really thirsty sometimes at night and thus far have been struggling
between calling my family for a drink or my window open/fan up. I've found a
few home automation projects in the past buf I figure my quad list
buddies/family would know best. So ir was
1> Able to drink something cold on my own while in upright position.
2> Ability to control my bed/window/blinds with sip'n'puff, my PC or my
right arm to the wrist.
