Figured it out by running a qvm-run command manually, such as: qvm-run -q -a --service --dispvm=personal -- qubes.StartApp+org.gnome.Terminal returning: Refusing to create DispVM out of this AppVM, because template_for_dispvms=False Once I corrected the DispVM option, rerunning the command produces no error, but still nothing happens. [qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 Desktop file no longer working
Hey there, The upgrade to Qubes 4.0 was mostly painless, with a few things needed to be set up and worked-around here and there. I did do a backup from R3.2 and restore to R4.0. The only issue I'm still facing is that none of my .desktop files (application menus under the XFCE menu) seem to work. When I click on, say, Personal - Terminal the Personal VM is started, but no terminal shows up. Doing the same thing results in nothing happening. Running `qvm-sync-appmenus personal` results in no change. The .desktop files are in dom0 and personal, but for some reason the application still isn't launching. I have to manually launch everything from Qubes Manager -> Run command in VM -> gnome-terminal. Is there a way I can debug this further? Re: [qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 and Private Internet Access? Tasket VPN solution...
Once again Tasket/Chris thanks for the help...got it working with both Debian and Fedora in 4.0 running as a Appvm. The issue was in the .conf file/password linking and the order I was doing this. I had same thing happen to me but only when restoring appvms of the same name installed on installer. or cancelling a restore halfway through and restoring again. I also noticed you can remove them from system, but they will still be looked for on bootup. Re: [qubes-users] [Qubes 4.0] Updating migrated templates from 3.2
That's odd. It doesn't work for me with templates that I have with non-default names. That's why I was asking this question. There's no instructions out there about which qubes packages need updating or installing, nor are there instructions about how to update the Qubes repositories. This is the kind of thing that I was asking about. [qubes-users] Just a data point -- RC4 installs fine on Dell Inspiron i5759-8835SLV laptop triple boot
Just as a data point, I installed RC4 on my Dell laptop as part of a triple boot setup (Win 10, Netrunner linux, Qubes 4.0), and it installed fine with one exception (which I'll get to below). I have the BIOS set to UEFI with secure boot disabled. I had to install three times, but the third time was a charm. The first two times, I got an error saying that it couldn't install sys-firewall. I don't remember what the first error was, but the second one was that it said it was already running (go figure). The third time, it installed without a hitch. All three times, I used the default configuration setup. The primary difference was that the third time, I unplugged my usb mouse and let it install with nothing attached. I don't know if there'a any reason that having a usb mouse plugged into my laptop would cause a problem, but there you go. I haven't started trying any fancy configuration of my setup yet (I'm going to try to move to KDE and do some personalization), but networking works fine, windowing and desktop works fine, and all is right with the world in that respect. It takes about 45 seconds for a vm to come up and show a console or browser window, and just a second or so for a new window to come up once the domain is up and running. billo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] I think I found a moderately serious bug. And I could use some help with recovery. (kali/HVM/rootfs)
ok thanks for your input. Ill just reinstall, I suppose. I do have backups!! Cant get them unless I boot into rescue because the usb no longer works without my sys-usb being able to start. I will try to recreate this and see on my second HDD. Ill check the dnf log too. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group.
