Re: QWS List AW: Roland Integra-7
That sounds about right. That’s what I had to do with my Yamaha MOXF. There were three different banks for user presets, but I had to load them in using the board itself, no system exclusive would have worked. If you can’t find the instructions in the manual, you could always try doing a web search. I’d bet Roland has an FAQ with answers to those types of questions; at least, I know Yamaha does for their boards. God bless! Seth On Aug 28, 2021, at 10:52 AM, T. Re: QWS List Roland Integra-7
Wish I knew, but unfortunately I don’t own any Roland products. However, my best guess is that you load the SRX boards into the module using menus on there; your manual should tell you how to do that. Once you get them loaded in, it’s a matter of finding which program/bank combinations will find the patches assigned to the SRX boards. If Roland has a data list available for this product, then that should tell you which program and bank numbers to use. If I come across any information that might be of value to you, I’ll let you know. God bless! Seth On Aug 27, 2021, at 6:28 AM, T. Werner wrote: Hello there, I've bought an Integra-7. Re: QWS List triton setup
What you need to do is go to your options menu by hitting alt o, and then i for instruments. You should be presented with a list of ports, so arrow down until you find the one for your Triton, then hit tab. You should now be presented with a list of instrument lists. Arrow down until you find the one for the Triton Rack, then tab over to the OK button and hit enter. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but after you do this, you may need to restart QWS for the changes to take effect. God bless! Re: QWS List triton setup
One of the documents on the court website should be the voice list, and if I’m not mistaken, that will specify bank numbers. However, in my past experience with a Korg X50, it used high density bank changes or whatever they’re called. Essentially this means that both the MSB and LSB bank parameters are used. If I remember correctly, the MSB value was 64 or 63, one of the two. So for bank in the track properties dialogue, try: 8064, or 8191. One of these should do the trick; if not, then refer to the voice list on the website I gave you from Korg. God bless! Seth On Jul 14, 2021, at 6:01 PM, Joe Giovanelli wrote: Well Seth, I did this. Re: QWS List triton setup
Well you don’t really use the set all ports option, what you do is you create a track, using control insert, or alt K and then enter. Then, you hit enter on the track, and you should be able to tab through the dialogue and one of the options is port. Once you find that option, set it to your midi interface, whatever it’s name is, and hit enter. Then try playing the keyboard and see if you hear sound from your Triton. Here is a link to a tutorial on the QWS website that goes through the steps in more detail. http://www.andrelouis.com/qws/dlaudio.htm You’ll want to listen too tutorial two, which talks about setting up a Keyboard with QWS. Re: QWS List triton setup
One thing to try: there should be a way you can test to make sure you’re getting sound out of the Triton, such as a built-In demo song, or something of that nature. That would be a good place to start, as this is a module so you can’t just play a keyboard to make sure you’re getting sound. That’ll make the Midi conundrum somewhat easier to solve. Then, make sure your Triton is in the right mode: I believe its called multi mode. I also found the Triton rack manuals online: https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/manual/1/220/1663/ The one you’ll want is the basic guide, and there is a link to it below the license agreement. Yes that is true. That’s why since I’m not running windows 10, I’ve also been using Midi yoke along side it. Might have to check out the one you’re using if I ever upgrade, which, since it appears Proteus VX won’t work on windows 10, that is highly doubtful. At this point I think I’ll stick with my Windows 7 machine, slow and stupid as it may be at times. God bless! Seth On Jun 26, 2021, at 12:02 PM, Simon Jaeger wrote: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think LoopBe only allows one port unless you pay for it. This is the one I use and it works on latest Windows 10: https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html This is free and you can define as many ports as you want. The only trouble is that the list of configured ports is not accessible. Arrow keys will traverse the list, but screen-readers can't identify it as a list and won't tell you where the cursor lands. You therefore have to do a bit of guess work to correctly modify or delete the ports you've created. Since you can still read the order of them with something like the JAWS cursor or NVDA flat review, and even may be able to mouse click them to select them, this has never been a deal breaker for me. It's also the only software of its kind that I've found will let you rename the ports. So instead of having to remember that Proteus is on MidiYoke 7 or rename it from within QWS, you can just create a new port and call it Proteus VX. > On 6/26/2021 9:37 AM, Seth Lowman wrote: > Also, if midi yoke is giving you too much trouble, here’s another one you can > try: > LoopBe1 virtual midi cable from the following website: > https://www.nerds.de/en/download.html > > > God bless! > Seth > > On Jun 26, 2021, at 9:30 AM, Nicole Massey wrote: > > This is all a special subset of normal computer stuff, so that's > understandable that you might not have all the info on what's going on. > If the interface isn't in the ports list follow Seth's advice about finding a > driver. Also, if midi yoke is giving you too much trouble, here’s another one you can try: LoopBe1 virtual midi cable from the following website: https://www.nerds.de/en/download.html God bless! Re: QWS List virtual instruments
If you aren’t seeing the port for the Triton, it isn’t the Tritin’s fault, but the midi interface you are using. Look for the name of your midi to usb interface in the ports list. If it’s not showing up in the ports list in track properties, hit alt o to go to your options menu and P for ports. Look for it there, and make sure the use this port box is checked. If it’s not even showing up there, it could mean that your midi interface requires a driver that you need to install. If that’s the case, do a search for the name of your midi interface and the word drivers on the web. Is this error with Proteus Happening with your Windows 7 machine? If so, that run as administrator option I told you about should be there in the context menu. Find the icon for Proteus on your desktop, Press the applications key to click into the context menu, and then find the option that says run as administrator and hit enter. I just checked on my Windows 7 machine, and it’s there. I couldn’t tell you about windows 10 unfortunately, since I don’t own one of those. God bless! Re: QWS List virtual instruments
As long as your computer sees the USB to midi cable, it should be able to work with your Triton. Of course, if you’re getting no sound after setting the port and channel properly in QWS, try checking the connection to your Triton to make sure the in connecter on the midi cable, (Not the out connector!) is plugged into the in port on your Triton. I’ve made that mistake before and then sat there scratching my head wondering why I wasn’t getting any response. Chuckle God bless! OK so you’re set there. Just use that to connect your Tritons to the computer. An audio interface is an external device used to get audio from microphones or instruments into the computer. There’s a lot of different ones manufactured by companies like Focusright, Native instruments, Behringer, and others. God bless! Whether or not you get that module, definitely try Proteus on your Windows 7 machine. It has some stellar sounds on it that you won’t want to miss. As far as hooking up the Triton module to your computer, since the module is an older machine that probably doesn’t use USB, you’ll need a midi interface and a five pin din midi cable. If you have an audio interface, it may already have a midi interface built into it, and if that’s the case you could just use that with a midi cable. If not, Yamaha and Roland make midi to USB interfaces that, if I’m not mistaken, are fairly inexpensive. https://www.zzounds.com/item--ROLUMONEMK2 and https://www.amazon.com/Yamahaa-UX-16-Yamaha-Usb-midi-Interface/dp/B8BCXY/ref=dp_prsubs_2?pd_rd_i=B8BCXY=1 Also, you were asking about instrument list earlier I believe. Richard, that looks right. Joe, have you tried running it as administrator? I had some problems with this on my Windows 8 machine if I remember correctly. It gave me an error first time I opened it, so what I did was went into the context menu, (press your applications key or right click the mouse), and chose run as administrator, and it worked. Sadly, it appears that Proteus VX has disappeared off the web. Now when you try to go to the download page on EMu’s website, you just get redirected to EMu’s product page, where they list some newer stuff but none of the old or legacy products. I’ve tried other sites, but can’t seem to find it. It looks like if anybody else wants Proteus VX, they’ll have to get it from somebody on the list; I still have a copy of the installer somewhere. Re: QWS List virtual instruments
Proteus VX is not a collection of fonts; rather, it is a standalone synthesizer that will load a bank of its own proprietary presets when you open it on your computer. In order to use it with QWS, you need the virtual midi cable I was talking about earlier. I have also gotten it to work as a VST in reaper, but not with VST host. The most straightforward way to use it with QWS is to run it as a standalone program, then from the edit menu, go into preferences set your midi in device to the in Port on which ever virtual cable you’re using: for example, in from midi yoke 1. Then, go to QWS, create a new track, and set the port to your out port, such as out to midi yolk 1. This software instrument is multitimbrel, so you can create multiple tracks with it. It uses banks 0, 1, 2, and maybe 3 and four for its instrument presets, and there is also an instrument list for it on the QWS website. Hopefully this will help you out and getting started with Proteus VX. God bless! Oh and thank you Simon for bringing up those points that I forgotten. Yes, you do get some free instruments just by buying a controller. I would encourage you to check it out if you haven’t already. Getting this controller would also allow you to bypass the fact that your keyboard doesn’t have a local off function, as you could trigger your keyboards sounds from the controller instead while using QWS. I’ve actually found logic pretty amazing for midi editing, once you get around its few quirks, like it’s balkiness when working with hardware instruments and Bank select messages. That being said, there are a few things I miss from QWS, like the progression and note replace tools, and the ability to use instrument list. I still use it from time to time when I feel the need to go back to my old but goods software instruments like my sound fonts, my freeware VST‘s, and Proteus VX, which unfortunately doesn’t work on the Mac or in logic. Re: QWS List virtual instruments
Oh, and the KK packages vary depending on which one you get. I believe the smallest one offers a few pianos and synthesizers, while the largest one, Komplete CE offers the entire gamut, from pianos and synthesizers, to drums, guitar, basses, orchestral instruments, etc. now that I’m thinking about it, you could probably make KK work with QWS, though you would have to use a virtual midi loop cable such as Midi Yolk or Loopbe1. You won’t need VST host though, as KK has its own standalone application. However, using it that way seems like it would be extremely complicated, as you would have to do things with instances and all sorts of other goofiness in order to make it all work. The best way to use KK is to use it in reaper or logic, as those programs have built-in support for KK. Of course, if anybody else knows more about using it with QWS, please chime in. God bless! To be honest, I’ve been using the KK stuff with logic pro, not QWS. I’m not really sure how well they work with QWS. I do know that they work with reaper though. How strange that your keyboard doesn’t have a local off function. All keyboards should have that ability. Of course, the alternative would be to play it using an external controller when you’re using it in QWS. As far as pricing for the KK products, the Komplete CE package is $1600. I believe the ultimate package is 1200, and the prices go down from there. I don’t recall the prices of the controllers off hand. God bless! Every keyboard should now have the ability to turn off local, unless it’s something really stupid cheap like a $50 RadioShack keyboard from the past. What model keyboard did you get? It should say in the manual how to turn off local. As far as virtual instruments go, your best bet is going to be to purchase one of the Komplete packages, and a A49 or S49 controller from Native Instruments so you can access the parameters. Re: QWS List SV: AW: SV: AW: AW: New keyboard time
If I got it, it would be for the pipe Organs, acoustic and electric guitars, basses, Jazz brass and woodwind, and yes the drums! However, I don’t currently have the funds to purchase that beast, so I am rocking a Yamaha MOXF and Komplete 12 ultimate CE. The MOXF fills in some of the blanks left by KK, such as melodic guitar patches, a jazzy S6 piano, and some other things. What makes me a bit disapointed is that the voice guide function don’t seem to get updates in regards to new functions and that could be possible without much work. So be it, I thought first if I shouldn’t sell my genos at first and buy a tyros, but than i kept going with genos because for me, the sounds were better. But yeah, they could have made so much more with the function. Fun fact, the voice guide got updates, that means, with new Firmware versions, the voice guide could say those, perhaps mainly to let you know where you are. But in Terms of new Features or more accessibility, Nothing goes Forward. Very sad. Sure, I have a lot of outboard gear with wich I can compensate a lot of Things the genos doesn’t offer Access wise but that shouldn’t be the Intention of such a function like voice guide. So it depends on what you want and if the better Sound is worth it for you or not. An example: The Expansion packs area isn’t accessible on the genos. Because I have no expansions, that was no Problem. For another friend, who had a tyros previously, it was bad because he couldn’t use any packs on the genos. Like I said, it is good to have the feature if you have the genos, but you have to know that the expectations shouldn’t be to high. If I had to decide with todays Knowledge, I think I would Maybe buy the tyros I have to say, especially if it is the only Instrument or gear you have, so you can’t get inaccessible functions from somewhere else. The genos has a voice guide and that makes it accessible to a certain Degree. Set: The accessibility of the genos is more Basic than I thought at first. You can select styles and sounds, make simple Recordings and you can select Presets of the voice harmonizer and Vocoder from what I know. And it is not such a big Problem, since you can navigate the touch screen with the voice guide. In Addition, the genos has even knobs for transpose, tempo fills Intros and endings and some keys for accessing some functions, like the accompagnement and such. So, it is simply not true that the genos is inaccessible. That are the Things what I use the voice guide for and yes, it has it’s limitations, but Keep in mind that yamaha has the only one solution for us to navigate the screen and and use the genos to a certain Point, other companys have Nothing. I was a Little bit disapointed, since yamaha could have made more out of this Concept, but I use the Basics and because of the touch screen the voice guide is better than Nothing, since you even know where you are at the Moment. Hmmm, how strange. What kind of keyboard do you have? If it’s one that requires you to install the driver, it could be that your driver is corrupt and it needs to be reinstalled. Also something to consider, sometimes QWS will say on start up that it can’t open a midi port, but sometimes you can still choose it in the track properties dialogue and it will work anyway. You can choose where you want to save your files when the Save as dialogue comes up the first time you save a new file. Personally, I don’t keep my files in the QWS folder, but in a different directory within my documents folder. Re: QWS List port will not open
How does your PK5 keyboard connect via midi? Are you using five tin din ports out to a midi interface, or does it connect with a direct USB cable? If you’re using some kind of midi interface, sometimes those can give you trouble. For example, the one built into my native instruments Komplete audio 6 would not send note on/off messages correctly back and forth with my Yamaha MM6. God bless! Re: QWS List vsts and sound fonts
Hello. To answer your question, VST’s and sound fonts are two completely different things. VST’s are what are known as plug-ins; you would load them into a DAW or an independent host such as VST host, and they can serve as software instruments, software effects, or in some cases both. In some instances, like with native instruments Kontakt, they can serve as a means for loading in A wide selection of instruments. Sound fonts, on the other hand, are files used for sample playback; some of them contain only one instrument, some of them contain one instrument with multiple presets, and some contain hundreds of instruments and hundreds of presets. Sound fonts require a sample player to work, such as cool soft virtual midi synth, synth font, or even a VST plug-in like Forzando; excuse me if I’ve misspelled the last one. As confusing as this may be, the good news is that both can be used with QWS. The easiest way to load in sound fonts with QWS is to use coolsoft virtual midi synth, found here: https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth Once you have downloaded and installed this, the next step is to get some sound fonts. There are a variety of different places you can get them, but here is one that I found to be most useful: http://www.synthfont.com/links_to_soundfonts.html As far as VST instrument, there is an article on the QWS website that goes through the steps on how to use VST plug-ins with QWS. Hope this helps. God bless! Seth On Mar 26, 2021, at 6:33 PM, Joe Giovanelli wrote: Hello, I have a question for thislist. Are VSTS and sound fonts the same thing? If not, what are the differences? QWS List Sound font player?
Hello all. Does anybody know of a good sound font player for the Mac? I have been using logic pro for most of my production as of late, and so I’m looking for a way to play all my sound fonts using logic. The last one I tried did not work with voiceover, so I’m wondering if anybody has any suggestions? If there isn’t one for logic, I’d also be open to using one in reaper. God bless! Perhaps it’s possible to do this in the note editor, which you enter by hitting control k from the QWS main window. Try hitting control a and then control c for copy; if this doesn’t work, then your only alternative is to select The section you want to copy, copy that, paste it on the new track, and then use the delete controller tool in the tools menu to delete the control messages you don’t want on that track. h God bless! My suggestion would be to extract the file to a folder in your program files directory, and then look for it. Once you find it, create a desktop shortcut to it so you don’t have to go file browsing every time you wanna open VST host. Re: QWS List Bassmidi and QWS questions
To address your first question, The bassmidi Driver itself does not really allow for any control over which playback device you have your sound run through. However, there is another piece of software that uses the bassmidi Driver so load sound fonts, and it’s called cool soft virtual midi synth. You can find it under the following link. http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth Once you install this program, go into your start menu and type in conf and arrow down to find the option called “configure virtual Midi synth”. Once you’ve entered the program, control tab through the different dialogues, and in one of them should be an option to change what playback device The synthesizer uses, and there should also be an option to set your default synth for Windows media player. As for stacking sound fonts, you will need Viena to change the program and or bank numbers of your sound fonts in order to make sure all the presets can be accessed with QWS. It can’t be a long and tedious process, especially if you have several general Midi sound fonts, but once it’s all done, it’s definitely worth it. God bless! Re: QWS List Tempo, dynamics and bends.
For tempo changes: Go to the point of the song where you want to insert a tempo change. Then hit control L to go to the event list, hit I for insert and use the down arrow until you hear tempo, and press enter. Now find the tempo event in the list, hit your applications key to go to the context menu, press V for value, and type in the desired tempo. If you would like to adjust the position of your tempo change, press S for start, and type in the beat number followed by a period and the number of tickss. For example, (64.048). As far as bends, does your keyboard have a pitch bend wheel? That is the easiest way to insert bends in your song. Dynamic should be determined by the velocity of your key strike. That is, if you have a keyboard touch response. Hope this helps, and God bless! QWS List Blind-Accessible orchestral software synthesizer or Motif expansion sound library for use with logic pro or QWS
Hello folks. I was wondering if anybody knows of a blind accessible orchestral software synthesizer that works either with Logic Pro or QWS. If not, are there perhaps any orchestral expansion sound libraries for the Motif XF? The reason for my asking is because the orchestral software synthesizers I have come across, such as East West do not work with my Screenreader. Thank you in advance for your assistance. God bless! Try disabling midi clock in QWS. For some reason, it sometimes messes with synthesizers when it comes to recording and playing back. God bless! Thank you. The cleanup tool did the trick. I did end up losing a few notes, because for some reason, the note values were super long for a drum track. RE: QWS List Using qws with a Yamaha dgx-660.
Also, if you know the bank-select numbers for the sound you are trying to find, that should help. Try setting the program to 0, then go to bank and try arrowing up through the list while playing your keyboard. If the sound changes, then go back to program and arrow through that list to see what new sounds you have discovered. -Original Message- From: mai...@andrelouis.com [mailto:mai...@andrelouis.com] On Behalf Of Nicole Massey Sent: Friday, May 19, 2017 12:56 PM To: QWS listSubject: RE: QWS List Using qws with a Yamaha dgx-660. Re: QWS List tempo on a knob
From my understanding, the key command function only works with keys on your keyboard. It does not work with other types of controllers, such as pitch bend wheel, sliders, or knobs. However, in future releases of QWS, it would be nice to have a controller command function so you could assign a controller to hit the record button or the play button, or change the tempo. RE: QWS List [QWS] using Yamaha SYXG 50 on modern machines
I am glad to hear that it's working well for you, and I would like to apologize for the backlash. The truth is, I was scared away from Korg by their tendency to use touch-screens on most of their keyboards. Even now, I would have a hard time dealing with that, since even those keyboards that don't use a touch-screen are not 100% accessible for the blind. Therefore, I have to use a magnifier when doing some of the file management stuff, such as loading a sound library into my synth, and trying to use a magnifier while touching the screen is difficult at best. However, that doesn't mean I don't like the sound of a Korg keyboard. It would be nice to have a Korg as a second keyboard, as they have some top-notch synthesizer timbres, and they would work well for getting a really bright sound for some of the songs I've been trying to cover. Also, having performed using some Korg machines in the past, I've found that they work really well for those gigs where you haven't had time to customize the board to your liking. If you know where a sound is located, just punch in the bank and program number, and Boom! You're there. I'm glad to hear that there are support groups for the Krome. Are there any mailing lists for it? I know they have mailing lists for the Yamaha Motif and for the Roland keyboards, but I haven't heard of one for any of the Korg synths. -Original Message- From: mai...@andrelouis.com [mailto:mai...@andrelouis.com] On Behalf Of Juan Pablo Bello Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2017 7:30 AM To: QWS list <qws@AndreLouis.COM> Subject: Re: QWS List [QWS] using Yamaha SYXG 50 on modern machines hi. Regarding the krome, everything that is navigation based, and the controlling of some parameters realtime is totally accessible. The editing lamentably, is not. I wrote a while back that I had it and all I was able to get in this list was just backlash. I decided to keep the krome because: 1. It has a good deal of support outside korg. In other words there is a lot of user generated content and forums and Facebook groups for it, completely contrary to what I had found here. 2. I don't live in the land of the free, so my freedoms in economic terms and what I do with what I buy is very limited. In this country it is pretty much impossible to buy something and return it simply because I was not satisfied with it. Though this is not to say I am not pleased with the krome.. on the contrary, It does what I need pretty well and I like the sounds despite others saying that it degrades the quality when it is plugged into anything. The more lightweight aspect of the 88 key I have makes it ideal for some gigs as well. 3. Lastly, if I need help editing, there is the community. Lots of cover songs have been tweaked and or done, and I thankfully have a few folks from there that help me get things up and running. Also local friends, which are just mostly help doing things like loading or saving combinations or things I have edited. Once you load something or save it there is no need to do the procedure again, so unless you are a road warrior that has to change things every three days, it works just perfect. 2017-05-12 17:50 GMT-05:00, Seth Lowman <seth...@gmail.com>: > Thank you for the update on that. Re: QWS List Nektar LX88 Impact Midi Controller with QWS Questions
The delay problem is easy. All you have to do is adjust the buffer size in the cool soft options menu. I have mine turned all the way down to zero, and it doesn't stutter, at least, if my PC is working smoothly. About the note problem, is the whole keyboard transposed, or is it just to C that sounds wrong? If it's the whole keyboard, you might try pushing the transpose button on your controller. RE: QWS List yamaha psr 170 midi connection
If you aren't getting anywhere with the midi interface you have, I know of another one you could get from Yamaha. It's the Yamaha UX16, http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music-production/accessories/usb-midi/ux16/ and there is a driver on line you have to install before you can use the cable with your keyboard. The driver can be found here: http://download.yamaha.com/usb_midi/ Note, however, that it is a good idea to have the midi interface plugged into your computer while installing the driver. Once the driver is installed, just plug it into your keyboard and into your computer, turn off local, go into QWS, and choose the port Yamaha UX16 1, or whatever your computer will call it. I hope this helps.
