[RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?
GE I misquoted the "Min SH" column as the PBH range. My mistake. The PBH column (1st col) shows a 74 to 75cm PBH range. The takeaway is: concentrate on women as buyers. Re: [RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?
One point to take into account is, be prepared to list, find no takers, and remove and wait, and list again. I've seen the same bikes and parts snapped up right away at good prices, at other times linger for weeks with no takers. I listed a middle sized Sam frameset, with added braze ons, for weeks, until I finally asked my brother, then in CA, to build it and sell it there, for a cut. I did sell a 3d hand Ram frameset reasonably quickly; and I've sold many other frames and bikes on list and off. Again, if you want to sell it right away, be prepared to sell cheap. If you want a better price, be prepared to wait. That's a nice looking bike, btw, and I daresay it will sell, at a decent price -- eventually. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. *John*: I was going to say that I believe the PBH was 73-74, rather than 63-64 as Bill pointed out, but yes, it's definitely going to be for a smaller stature individual, most likely female. *Joe*: I think you're likely correct. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a JB paint job, as I'm sure I would've paid for that! :) *Blakcloud*: Thank you! I wish my other Rivendell was this color because I really do love it. Thanks for your suggestions and price thoughts as well. I actually have a set of drop bars I was considering mounting instead of the albatross bars, which would make the brake levers less clunky looking (and yes, I do understand what you're saying about this and agree). The cork grips tore in removal, so I'd have to get another set of grips (which wouldn't be a huge deal), so it's a matter of deciding which way to go with that. [RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?
Absolutely one of the nicer bikes I have seen. The colour is perfect. I liked your photos and would only change a few things before the sale. First put the bars back in the upright position, and don't tape them all the way, use the cork grips again. The brake levers have to go, they look like a cludge at best. Install some inexpensive Shimano levers. Take the basket off and offer it as an incentive but the bike will look better for sale without it. I think Hugh's advice about his selling technique is a good one. The real question is price? I think in the $1800 dollar range might be doable. Good luck on your sale. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Joe B, I'm 5-7 with 29 PBH and ride 54 or even 55 depending on top tube (54-54.5) I would say someone riding a 47 would be 5-1 to 5-3, since several women I ride with are that size and frame fit. I sold my dad's Saluki a few years ago, it was somewhere in the 57-58cm size range. It was used but nice and built up in a not particularly Riv'ish manner. [RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?
You all are fantastic! I didn't expect to have so many responses so quickly. I really appreciate all of your feedback. Many, many thanks to you all. As for more details... It is a small frame, so I am aware that there doesn't seem to be quite the market for those sizes (47cm to be exact). The frame was a NOS that Rivendell was selling early this year and it was custom painted so it's a different color than the standard blue Homer Hilsens or the orange Salukis. I believe that it was actually old Saluki stock, but when Rivendell was selling it, they said it was the same as the Homer Hilsen, so I could choose either set of stickers. I think it's a beautiful color... but of course, I chose it. :) Anyway, as for parts, it has the Sugino triple (I think it's the 24-36-46, but I'd have to double check to be sure... the bottom might be a 26). It has albatross handlebars with Dura-Ace bar end shifters. I'm fairly certain this one is set up with the 8sp shifters because we had them in a box of parts (again, I'd have to double check to make certain it wasn't 9 sp). The wheels are nothing special - just a standard 650b set (I'll have to look to get specifics). It has Soma New Xpress cream tires with Stop2 Flats liners inside. I'm located in Colorado, so I'm also aware that there isn't the same market here as there is in northern CA. As for photos... I haven't removed everything yet that won't go with it (what will come off is the saddle, pedals, bag, basket, rack), but some pics taken in the wild can be seen here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/54032207@N04/albums/72157684414421915 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. There is some luck involved in finding the right buyer. That being the case, it's way easier to luck into finding the right buyer if your bike is in the Medium size range. If it's a 47cm or a 73cm it may take longer to find the person you need. [RBW] Re: Advice for selling a Saluki/Hilsen?
G.E.: Remove the parts that you intend to keep and post photos as you would sell it. Size & color should be in the header. The more detail in the parts listing the better; i.e. "Sugino XD-2 crankset w/ 24-36-46 rings" instead of "Sugino cranks". Answer as many questions as you can anticipate. This is probably one of your best places to sell, as people looking for a Rivendell will look here. Many list members have extensive knowledge and so a better idea of what you're selling than the average bike buyer. As to price, that's a tough call. The market will tell you, but the market changes. For instance, if you have a very small frame, the market is narrow but for someone who needs one, the bike will be valuable. Steve's advice on pricing is worth a thought. Without knowing more detail, it's difficult to suggest a number. dougP On Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:14:35 PM UTC-7, G.E. wrote: > > I'm in need of some assistance and am hoping some of you here might have > thoughts and be able to offer suggestions. An NOS Saluki/Hilsen is kind of an intriguing concept and I'm sure everyone here would like to see some pix, regardless of sale. I'm no expert, but given what you've said, I would take your cost for the frame and the parts that will be sold with it, and subtract maybe $400-500?? If it is unique in some way (as opposed to a standard Hilsen, say) I folks may be willing to pay more. Again, we need more information. Just my thoughts.
