Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Standing Ovation
Huge appreciation . Today I was in my barn and looked up at an old SB2 thats still running (I upgraded from my Slimp3 that still works and looks stylish in a retro way). I turned it on and selected a BBC channel using the new BBCSounds plugin. And I wondered - how many 20 year old media players can cope with all the modern streaming formats (no others likely) and that led me to think about all the hard work (by mostly volunteers) to enable this and to keep this system abreast of technology over the last 20 years. And this evening I saw this post. Big thanks to Michael for sticking with it, and to Erland, Triode, BPA, Charles, Stuart, Philippe, Philip and no doubt dozens of others who have taken the baton over the years and contributed so much creativity and time to get us here. Long may it continue. Im just getting this issue too. 2 x NAS. Production was on 2.21. Backup is on 2.20. Unable to connect to Qnapclub repository to download - it was indicating update available, but would not download. Noticed backup was https and the prod just a simple www url. Added new repository using same url as production NAS and now cannot see any apps. In the end I simply downloaded and installed manually. Additionally, on both, the LMS icon displays for a few seconds on the App Centre, and then disappears (this has been the case for a long time) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108702 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB1: is it dying or just no longer supported?
I have some SB1s and have this issue for quite a while - I thought it was because I run 2 servers (one backup). It seems to be timing- if you interrupt the auto startup and step through the network setup then press the down button just as it looks for a server, after a few attempts it will lock on. Once connected they are fine. I keep meaning to see if the Slimp3s work too! Happy days. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS vs SSD
I put an SSD on an Odroid (like a PI) for an LMS server 3+ years ago because I did not want a spinning drive, and it runs off the PI USB power. It just runs. The amount of writing to the cache is hardly going to stress the SSD - I run them in desktops and my work laptop which runs 24x365 and never a problem - think of how much a heavy stacked PC writes to the disk every day. By contrast, USB flash drives have miserable write life - why would you put the heaviest writes on the weakest component? I removed Optware and QLMS 1.09a, rebooted, and reinstalled just QLMS2.0.10 (no Optware). 2 significant problems. 1. The servers are in constant fight for the players. By that I mean that the players connect to server A, but then immediately say they are connecting to server B (but they do not). This is happening every few seconds. I am having to stop one server to prevent this conflict. TBH, I did see this behaviour with 1.09a and gave up trying to fix it. If I stop either one of the servers, the other works fine. I wonder if this is a network problem, so unless someone has seen it before, I will continue to investigate. 2. I cannot get MUSICIP s to start on either machine. MUSICIP plugin is installed and activated. I checked QLMS.conf and MUSICIP was set to 0, so I set it to 1. Restarted. Mo Musicip. No reference to MUSICIP in the QLogitecMediaServer.log. If I click on the icon, it says the version available is V2.0.10 (2018-11-05). I am also running Optware (we needed to install this (on your advice) to make QLogitechMediaServer operate). I understand this is not needed now. Should I.. - Remove Optware - Download QLogitechMediaServer V2 and manually install? I presume it will upgrade ok and I do not need to remove V.109a? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] QLogitechMediaServer for Qnap with QTS 4.2 or higher and x86_64/I686/X86 support !
It really irritates me to have QNAP NASs sitting there in theory perfectly capable of running LMS but then running LMS on a PI. I do run LMS on my NASs, but I also run LMS on an Odroid (Pi-like) with Max2Play at work. The QNAP hosted LMS (supporting 13 players) is kinda ok but does require a kick every month to sort some kind of glitch. The Pi on the other hand just runs. I might look at it once every 6 months - once it went 10 months. I just forget about it. So unless you like the challenge, it really is better to install LMS on a Pi - just dont forget where it is in the house. Although I have no intention to move from Intel base, it seems QNAP now favour AMD processors (for their performance models). Is there a fundamental reason why this qpkg will only ever work on Intel processors, or is it simply that you do not have an AMD system to test it on? Similarly pre 4.2 QTS? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Installing on a NAS
I have 2 instances of LMS running on QNAP NAS and with the new Qpkg provided by digimaster it runs as well as it has ever run on any other platform (windows or pi) - including the support for spotty with no issues, Musicip (included). Available in the EUclup qpkg repository iirc. It might only run on the later versions of QTS (later than 4.2) but just runs and maybe intel only, but check because I think he was considering expanding supported environments. I also run LMS on an Odroid and on a pi based on Max2play with an attached MSATA SSD for music (network wired) at work and is as close to plug and forget as you get (not bothered with MusicIP but use sugarcube to create dynamic mixes off the main NAS musicip database). Bottom line - unless you are running 10 year old hardware or out of date SW, LMS can run perfectly on a QNAP or a Synology, Pi or Odroid with no hassle or maintenance overhead. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] MusicIP import
Do you mean that you have not run the LMS musicip import, or that Musicip has not done a scan? I think that if MIP is running and operational (ie has done its own scan and created its own index, then LMS will know it is there and simply sends a request to the MIP server for a list of tracks to play. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Logitech Media Server not starting on QNAP TS-119PII after update
As a suggestion to sort your problem and move to a more stable way to run LMS on QNAP, I would suggest you remove the SSOTS based install completely and instead use the recently produced excellent LMS native install produced by Digimaster. It will take you perhaps 20 minutes to do it, and be far more stable then SSOTS which has become problematic and unsupported. Search this forum for QNAP install package details. I started getting those errors a while back after moving to 4.3.3 of QTS. You need to have MIP create the default.m3lib cache file by adding music. Is your Default.m3lib file created in the .musicip directory? The path that you specify to do this must be exactly the same as in LMS. Not /share/music. In both, it has to be /share/cachedev1_data/music. Add the music in the webgui and go out. Mine takes about 1minute Per 1000 tracks. When finished, the web gui will show how many tracks are in the cache file. If tracks need to be Analyzer, See my other post re fingerprinting. Hi. So after successfully installing and running (for a week) on my backup TS569Pro with QTS4.3.4, I tried to install on the main NAS (a TS670pro with QTS4.3. Initially it looks ok, and you can set it up, but if I then stop the server and restart it, it refuses to start - tries once, tries twice, and then disables the qpkg so it has to be removed and re-installed. I tried restarting safe mode (it does start in safemode), but cannot do anything.. The scanning is a one-time thing (or when you add new music). When I did this for my 35k tracks, it took a week maybe, but it was background and I was at work. Rebuilding / checking my raid can take almost that so for me that is not an issue. I would be really interested in what you have done to get it working, and to test it (I have 2 QNAPs). Incidentally, I just installed the new Qpkg on my production NAS and I am having problems. It works fine on the 569 but not the 670pro. Will post back when I find out why. Its plugin related (I think Spotty plugin causes failure and deactivation) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108292 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

But it produces the best mixes (no doubt) because it works of the actual music fingerprints rather than tags. SSOTS included it, but since the BASH issues with SSOTS (and SSOTS no longer being supported making updates a hassle), MUSICIP got left behind. You might find that some people do not want the additional overhead of having it running, so it has to be an option. Also, the binaries are only for Intel - not ARM. But I am spending a lot of time trying to get it working (my Linux skills are almost zero). Even if you can produce a 'how-to' document that would be appreciated, but if you could produce a simple QPKG that would be fabulous. Many thanks for looking at this. I am not having much luck with the MUSICIP container (can't seem to access the music), and in any case, containers do not run on a lot of the older QNAPs. How it works? It is a server that analyses the music, and creates a file containing fingerprint data of the music 'profile'. Every track has fingerprint data, and if you want a mix of similar tracks then it provides the list to LMS. The interface is through port 10002 (or whatever you configure). The installation parameters are stored in an ini file called mmm.ini, and the fingerprint cache is stored in 'default.m3lib (but you define the name in the ini file). It has to be started prior to LMS so that LMS can interface to it once running. In windows there is a GUI and additional function (like writing the fingerprint data into the MP3 tags), but mostly it runs fine headless in Linux. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108292 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

So I installed Optware and tried to run musicmagicserver from the command line but it plain wont - QTS simply says it cant run the binary. So I wondered about running musicip in a container (you have to be on later hardware that supports docker) - and I found someone has done this and there is a musicip image available which I installed and it loads up ok. Need to check directory mapping but the originator indicates this is straightforward. You map the port and it looks like it will work - will have to wait till the weekend to try it all out properly because my test system is a 569 that does not support VMs. Startup sequence might be a problem, but mostly my Qnap stays up for a month or more between boots, so if I have to restart LMS manually after a maint reboot, its not an issue. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LogitechMediaServer for Qnap x86_64 with qts 4.2 or higher
Thanks.. just to be clear.. MUSICIP / MusicMagicServer is not a part of LMS, it is a standalone server that runs headless and receives requests to serve up mixes via TCPIP to port 10002 [default]. It is 10+ years old and no longer maintained - what is out there is as good as it gets. I don't think it is Perl. There is one binary (plus one ini file, and one cache of music information) It needs to be started prior LMS, then if the LMS MUSICIP plugin (which is Perl) is active, LMS sends requests to localhost:10002 for mixes [localhost is hardcoded in the plugin). So are you saying that a normal 32bit binary will run ok if I install Optware-NG? Again, to be clear, LMS does not need to run in 32bit, so if I just install Optware-NG will it break the 64bit version of LMS that is already installed? I am thinking just to install Optware-NG and fire up Musicip independently of LMS. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108292 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] QLogitechMediaServer for Qnap with QTS 4.2 or higher and x86_64/I686/X86 support !
I tried going the upgrade route by changing the qpkg.conf file (against your good advice). It did indeed pick it up and show on the apps menu with an upgrade option, but on trying to upgrade it still comes back with the error that the 'the internal name of QLogitechMediaServer has been registered by QLogitechMediaServer. So I followed your preferred route and did a remove followed by a clean install, and that's probably best for others too, since (hopefully) it is the only time it has to be done now. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108702 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

OK, going to take the plunge on my backup 569 pro with QTS 4.3. and give this a go. So to be clear. - Remove LMS and SSOTS - restart NAS - Install this qpkg - Nothing else to add or do? Do I need to manually delete SSOTS if it is still lurking and has left directories lying around? No other packages to install? (Optware etc. ) This NAS does nothing else other than a backup data store for the main NAS, and backup music server. No other apps are installed other than the default QNAP/QTS ones. So close to a clean install. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LogitechMediaServer for Qnap x86_64 with qts 4.2 or higher
I've been watching this with interest, and waiting to jump in. A few questions.. - You mentioned that it will soon be added into the official app store. Is that correct, and when is this likely? - - Does this run under QTS, or in a container? I ask because I use MusicIP, and do not think that will run any more under QTS due to the 64bit limitation. I am reluctand to run any stablised apps like LMS under QTS because QNAP seem to have little care for backward compatibility. - Does this get around the SSL errors that seem to have come with QTS4.3. I have not even tried to fix this because for the most part my currnt setup works, but if I ever use Spotty then I think I will have to sort it. - Right now, we run some Windows VMs, and I am seriously considering chucking LMS back into that environment - at least it is stable and insulated from QNAP breaking things . yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108292 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.1 on QNAP NAS
I think your summary is excellent. I'm running 1 and 3a, and the Pi (Odroid) with Max2PLAY, and played with 2, not tried 4 On 1, once you made the mods (which are well documented) upgrading is fairly simple (just download and upgrade using SSOTS). You probably only need to upgrade the core LMS 3 or 4 times a year. The downside of (1) (see my other post just now), is that QTS might one day be incompatible with LMS, just as I suspect MUSICIP has become. On 2, early days, and you might struggle if the container does not have what you want (bolted on to the side of LMS) 3 works, and I will probably end up going back to that because I just happen to have a VM, and it is stable. It hardly takes any resource, and we use it for Windows apps that we know and love. 4 - I have not tried this, but it might suffer the same downstream issues as 1 re compatibility. I also have tried various RPi / Odroid implementations, including sticking a 512GB SSD on the side and having it self contained. For me, the same issue of no MUSICIP (albeit that has maybe been partially addressed now). I run one of these in the office, and (frankly) much as I hate to admit it, it just works like an appliance, Music serving is all it does, and it does it well. How many players? don't know the capacity of a Pi. Also, indexing music might be heavy if you have 100k tracks - I have 35k and the Pi manages ok in about 20 mins for a full rebuild (albeit slower than the NAS) If I was starting from scratch, I'd probably run in a Windows VM because of MUSICIP. If you don't want MIP, I'd run it in a Pi either using the NAS storage, or USB solid state storage . The advantage of running on the Pi with local storage is it truly is dedicated, so no interruptions to music when you tinker with the NAS, and no way for the NAS to be compromised with music stuff. But having shelled out for a NAS that doubles as a music server, you probably don't want to hear that! yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108417 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Bought QNAP TS251+ and alreay regret it...
Did you check the QNAP forum? Basically you just download SSOTS and install that 'manually' from the app manager, and then follow instructions to install 7.9. There is some issue with the fact that BASH version is vulnerable and technically should be upgraded which is a bit of a fiddle, but if you only use your NAS internally (i.e. Do not expose externally) then you probably do not need to worry about that. Yes it will take a couple of hrs but once installed it just works. You could also put it on a RPi and use the NAS as a file server to a Pi based LMS but that's hassle too imho and another box. Upgrades to LMS require you to rename the downloaded file but again this is straightforward. Instructions in the QNAP forum are very good. If you get stuck ask for help. - Are other folk having issues with the latest 4.3 QNAP build? - Are other people seeing it working ok? Mine seems to work most of the time, but periodically the server is not being found by (in particular) wifi controllers (the SB controller and Ipeng), and I have to restart LMS. I am able to access LMS via the web interface, and it will play radio and files to wired players. I have RPI's and Odroids, and I get that they work, but I also just want to be able to use my existing QNAP infrastructure (which for a few years has been rock solid). A bit late in responding. Did you move to storage pools with the new build? If so, the directory path is slightly different - I can't remember exactly because it's been a while, but I did have some issues - my path is /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Music (my music is stored in a folder called 'Music', which is off the main share.) I recall prior to implementing pools, it was simply /share/music. yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107318 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Ever since Logitech dumped it we worried about the future protection of our investments. You do not get much for free these days, and I for one would be happy to make a regular donation to some kid of fund to compensate the team for hard work. For me, the BBC IPlayer work has been critical, but also the work Michael has put into the core code and of course many contributions to keep things working with new streaming services and formats.
