Maybe it is because of the older Gecko version?

Don't know. I changed it to -1 and restarted. Did not notice any
difference in performance. I assume the '20' reference is 200Mb.

I also made another couple of changes so that it currently uses the
memory for the cache, instead of the disk, to see how SM performs.

I use its defaults (currently 350 MB) and clear it a few times per

Also, how full is your hard disk?

I have 805 GB free out of 933 GB in my 2 TB SATA 7200 RPM HDD's C:

That removes obvious sources, but worth verifying.

I'm wondering if your hard disk may be an issue, although that's getting
out of the realm of anything specific to Seamonkey.

I know that several years ago, I saw more than one machine that was
really struggling on performance with Firefox, and when all my standard
performance troubleshooting techniques didn't turn up anything, I found
that when I ran a SMART check of the hard drive, I was getting errors
there. In each case, replacement of the hard drive cleared the errors.

Funny, I ran GSsmartControl yesterday and it had no errors after its two
short tests. I didn't try its long tests yet (take about five hours!).
If it was HDD related, then I would have issues outside of SM too.

How fast is your internet connection? If it is high speed you might
find things work faster if you disable the disk cache completely and
have only a memory cache. Disk access is much slower than memory
access, so swapping and cache retrieval are the major causes of slow

* uBlock Origin 1.16.4.24

I'm a PrefBar fan, but I've never seen that to cause issues. Beyond
uBlock Origin, I'm not familiar with the others, but none look like they
should be a problem.

On uBlock, how many subscriptions do you have, especially more than the
default? You might want to see what happens when you temporarily
disable that one.

Mailing filters? No, I don't use any in http://gmail.com's web site.
Also, I am only there for just quick sessions (up to ten minutes).

That's the way I use gmail, as well. Log in, see what I want to see, log
out again. With NoScript, I'm aggressive about blocking scripts, but at
an official Google site, I've found that it's necessary to not block any
Google scripting hosts (including gstatic) if I want things to behave
properly. The only exceptions I've found is that it's safe to block
google-analytics, and if I'm not explicitly trying to get something from
YouTube, it's safe to block that, as well.

Now that I think of it, I know that FRG has noted that there's an
increase of issues between Seamonkey and Google, especially
video-related stuff, and things that Google is doing that aren't
compatible. I think I've seen commentary about issues with YouTube,
although I haven't had any issues there, but I don't make a lot of use
of YouTube.

OTOH, the one thing that I've encountered is that at Google's main
search page, the cursor display in the search bar is about half a line
offset. I also don't use that page regularly, and the offset of cursor
and text is mostly annoyance, but I found that when I use PrefBar to
show a User Agent string that's stock Firefox (and no mention of
Seamonkey) that fixes the problem. Rather than using PrefBar to do
temporary spoofing (and having to remember to remove spoofing when I'm
done), I found that it's easier to simply tell Google that I'm running
Firefox ESR, by going to about:config and setting
general.useragent.override.google.com to show Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0 .

Although UA spoofing may not fix this particular problem, it does seem
that google is happier if you don't confuse them with the presence of
Seamonkey in your UA.

If I take a look at about:memory, there's indications of active
scripting from message filters in the mail client, as well as
scripting from previously-opened tabs in the browser.  I've found that
sometimes running a "Free Memory" can lower memory usage, and
sometimes improve performance a little.

I tried to do that after Gmail's sessions, but so dang slow and
unresponsive!

Definitely painful.

I know that a couple of months ago, I was filling in a form on a
morning after I had left Seamonkey open overnight, and this was one of
those forms that launches a script for every single field.  Everything
was really slow, and by the time I got to the end of the form, I was
getting scripting timeout errors, and it was pretty painful.  The only
reason I didn't restart Seamonkey was that I didn't want to start the
form over from the beginning again.

Oh, I hate those!!

Yep. One of the effects of NoScript is that if I'm at a purchasing site,
and I get to the end of a form, and find that there's an essential
scripting host that hasn't been enabled, enabling that extra host causes
the form to clear, and I have to start over. Maybe I should see what
happens if I adjust NoScript to not do a form reload if permissions get
changed.

I will note that I'm a long-time user of NoScript and uBlock Origin
(and Adblock Plus before that), and it seems that uBlock may be the
culprit for me, especially since I have a lot of user-crafted rules (I
tend to block annoying graphics that I don't want to see, even if
they're not ads).

All that said, I've noticed that since I upgraded to 2.53.3, I notice
a lot less performance issues, especially if I leave Seamonkey active
overnight.

6 GB of RAM.

Also, if you look at the Task Manager, what's the memory demand coming
from Seamonkey?

Like 1 GB with seamonkey.exe.

What extensions do you have active, and do you run any mail processing
filters?

* PrefBar 7.1.1 (http://prefbar.tuxfamily.org/)
* uBlock Origin 1.16.4.24

Mailing filters? No, I don't use any in http://gmail.com's web site.
Also, I am only there for just quick sessions (up to ten minutes).

It could be that there may be some sort of script that's active,
although I've never seen anything hammer just one core.

I've long suspected that there's some sort of memory leak issue in
Seamonkey, but I've never gotten any further than that.  I know that
when I leave it on for a long time (especially overnight) I often see
relative high memory use (sometimes, in excess of 2 GB), really slow
performance, and more frequent warnings of timeouts on scripts.  A
restart of Seamonkey normally clears that problem.

Yes, that but I can reproduce that within minutes like on YouTube,
LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

If I take a look at about:memory, there's indications of active
scripting from message filters in the mail client, as well as scripting
from previously-opened tabs in the browser.  I've found that sometimes
running a "Free Memory" can lower memory usage, and sometimes improve
performance a little.

I tried to do that after Gmail's sessions, but so dang slow and
unresponsive!

I know that a couple of months ago, I was filling in a form on a morning
after I had left Seamonkey open overnight, and this was one of those
forms that launches a script for every single field.  Everything was
really slow, and by the time I got to the end of the form, I was getting
scripting timeout errors, and it was pretty painful.  The only reason I
didn't restart Seamonkey was that I didn't want to start the form over
from the beginning again.

Oh, I hate those!!

I will note that I'm a long-time user of NoScript and uBlock Origin (and
Adblock Plus before that), and it seems that uBlock may be the culprit
for me, especially since I have a lot of user-crafted rules (I tend to
block annoying graphics that I don't want to see, even if they're not ads).

All that said, I've noticed that since I upgraded to 2.53.3, I notice a
lot less performance issues, especially if I leave Seamonkey active
overnight.

UO Legacy here too. Yeah. :(

In my case, I have 3.6Gb of memory. Recently installed uBlock Origin,

Logging daily mail activity?

2017-01-31 Thread Rick & Sharon
Running Win10 x64, SM User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64;
rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.46 Build identifier: 20161213183751

I use a backup solution called Memeo, which runs in real time as opposed
to only at scheduled intervals. I've been using both since the XP days.
Since upgrading the OS to Win10, I've been getting issues with sending
or receiving emails, where messages can't be saved to either the Sent or
Inbox folders, as appropriate. If I just keep trying 'Retry' it won't
work. If I suspend the Memeo process and then retry, it's fine.

I'm using the Win10 version of Memeo and have a ticket open with them,
but they're asking for a screen shot and a collection of logs. The logs
are no issue, but since the error pops up randomly I don't have a screen
shot already saved, and I'm the only user of this who has any idea of
how to take one. It occurs that a comparison of SM mail logs compared
to the Memeo logs would be a good thing, as time events can be compared
to work out a solution.

Are there such, and would they record the failed folder writing
attempts? I've seen an article about Thunderbird logging to
troubleshoot server issues, but that's not what I'm trying to solve.

What was the previous version you were using? I'm using 2.39 on Windows
and seeing similar behaviour with the bugzilla.mozilla.org, but it seems
to depend on the exact sequence.

Sequence 1:
1. Opened
2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. It loaded , but still showing
the login form

4. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in" again
5. It loaded and I was logged
in (on second attempt)

6. Logged out

Sequence 2:
1. Opened
2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. Loaded and I was logged in
(on first attempt)

4. Logged out

Sequence 3:
1. Used the "back" button to get back to

2. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
3. It loaded , but still showing
the login form

4. Repeated 2 and 3 a few times; I was logged in on the 4th attempt
5. Logged out

Sequence 4:
1. Deleted all mozilla.org cookies
2. Opened
3. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
4. It loaded , but still showing
the login form

5. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in" again
6. It loaded and I was logged
in (on second attempt)

7. Logged out

Sequence 5:
1. Deleted all mozilla.org cookies
2. Opened
3. Force-reloaded the page (Ctrl+Shift+R)
4. Filled in my username and password and clicked "Log in"
5. It loaded and I was logged
in (on first attempt)

6. Logged out

It seems something odd is going on, possibly related to cookies and/or a
token in the form (which can help guard against things such as CSRF
attacks and submitting the same form several times).

If you were previously using 2.39 without any problem, it may just be
coincidence that the website has changed recently. Or perhaps you didn't
happen to hit the sequence to trigger this. Or perhaps something else
you did at the same time has caused this effect - a couple of thoughts
are if you deleted cookies or changed the default permissions.

Mark.

I'm not on Bugz but Yahoo and others require me to:
enter uid, hit enter, wait a msec for next popup...
enter p/w, hit enter, wait a msec for main screen.
They've done it this way for months... maybe a year.

I never log out of Bugzilla, but for the sake of testing I did, and had
to enter my login credentials twice to get back in.

Could be because when I log out I see, " Your login has been forgotten.
The cookie that was remembering your login is now gone. You will be
prompted for a login the next time it is required."

Can't scroll down without logging into Facebook?

Hello.

Does anyone know why scrolling down doesn't work on

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.16)
Gecko/20101123 SeaMonkey/2.0.11

Do you want to give us a login ID and password? I don't have an account
at that site.

David hold off if you already haven't logged on there, from conversing
through email with one of their people he and I have determined that
it's a ASP.NET 4.0 Framework or browser sniffing problem similar to what
you discussed with Ken somebody back in Aug of last year. They actually
sent me the link to your discussion but I don't think he read the whole
thing nor went to your page about sniffing. They seemed very interested
in making their site work with Seamonkey as he has downloaded V2.0.11 to
test their varied sites with. I instructed him to fully read that
discussion as well as your link in it to your page on browser sniffing.

Logging in

2010-01-17 Thread user
I'm finding that with the current version (2.01) I cannot log in to
certain websites that I was able to do with earlier versions of
Seamonkey. On using Firefox, the problem doesn't arise on those sites
affected. Anyone else noticed this problem or similar?

Also using Flash with Seamonkey is still an issue with a Flash page
often giving an error on loading message, although repeated attempts
sometimes does the trick.

I've moved on 2.02, but didn't have any new loading problems while I had
2.01. Also no identified problems with Flash, unless it is what locks a
page occasionally, so that I can't scroll down while it is loading or
playing.

What sites are giving you trouble?

I found that the Activate Autocomplete extension interfered with
logging-in at some financial Web sites. I removed that extension.
Instead, to get SeaMonkey to save passwords on sites that block such
saving, I did the tweak described at
http://cybernetnews.com/firefox-remember-passwords/.

Go to Mozdev at http://www.mozdev.org/ for quick access to
extensions for Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and other
Mozilla-related applications. You can access Mozdev much
more quickly than you can Mozilla Add-Ons.

Can you give some examples of sites where you have trouble logging in?
I have had no issues at all, but we probably do not visit the same sites.

As to the flash problem, have you verified that your flash plugin is up
to date?

News servers that require logging in.

2009-09-12 Thread Ant

Hello.

I do not leave my account names and passwords in SeaMonkey v1.x for
security reasons. I do manually log in with them like on GigaNews.
However, SeaMonkey seems to forget often in the same SeaMonkey session.
I can understand that it will prompt again if I were to exit and
relaunch SeaMonkey, but why does it keep forgetting even after a few
seconds? I do not have this problem with e-mail servers.

Is anyone else having this problem too? Thank you in advance. :)
