I use Password Exporter 1.3.4 from
<https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/password-exporter/versions/1.3.4>
with SeaMonkey 2.49.5. I do not know if it is compatible with later
versions of SeaMonkey. In any case, I had to process the installer .xpi
file through the extension converter at
<http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/> before I could install it.

I archived the converted installer file. If you want to try it, reply
in this newsgroup thread.

extracting domain names from password manager

2020-07-27 Thread David H. Durgee
I am preparing to retire an email address and will need to change them
in all domains that are currently using that address. I am using the
old password manager (chrome://passwordmgr/content/passwordManager.xul)
and am easily able to locate these cases, but when I look at the popup
menu I see only the username and password offered for copying.

I want to copy these domains to a spreadsheet so I can address them in
turn and mark them as fixed. How can I do so?

You aren't getting asked when you log into a site for the first time?

I just logged into my mozillaZine account for the first time and was
asked if I wanted to save the username and password.

I should have told you where I was having my problem in my earlier
message.  The problem is...the first time I previously used a new
password on my system it would ask me if I wanted to save my password
(subsequently recorded in Password Manager if I click yes).  The
asking about saving new passwords no longer occurs. I'm trying to
understand why this is occurring and how to fix this problem.

FYI, Password Manager is a lifesaver to me when it comes my
forgetfulness of many things including passwords.

Saving passwords doesn't work for some websites, depending on how
they're coded.  Some web developers seem to consider that a feature and
deliberately do everything they can to stop password managers
recognising and filling in their password fields - it's almost like they
want you to reuse a short, easily remembered (and easily guessed)
password rather than one which is unique, complex and difficult to guess!

Thanks to all for your help. I believe I know one such web site that
does not want you to use a Password Manager for your
password...Facebook. I am ready to say Uncle on this one and put up
with what I have to do in order to use their software.

What thing are you asking about?

I don't have New, Edit or Clone in the built-in password manager.

So the thing doesn't work.

If you mean the Saved Password Editor extension you need version 1.0.1.

Password manager New, Edit, Clone

2020-05-05 Thread Ray Davison

Password manager New, Edit, Clone

I have the built in plus the Saved Passwords add-on.

It seems to me that a long time ago at least one or more of those
functions did work. For a long time now, "New" is a active button, but
there doesn't seem to be any code behind it. It just clicks, and
nothing. Edit and Clone are greyed out.

Is this thing supposed to work?

Password Manager and Enigmail

2019-01-07 Thread David H. Durgee
I am running 64 bit SeaMonkey 2.49.4 on linux mint x64 18.3 (sylvia)
with the Enigmail 2.0.9 installed. As I installed this back in early
October, 2018 and have had no need to use it until a few days ago I have
forgotten my pass phrase. The surprising thing is I can still use it
and believe this is due to saving my pass phrase with Password Manager.

When I select a message with encryption immediately after a restart I
get a pop-up window requesting my pass phrase which has a check box to
save it to Password Manager. As I have forgotten this I click cancel
and there is a warning displayed about a missing pass phrase and the
message is not opened.

I can work around this by sending an encrypted message to anyone,
including one of the available robots that will respond to them. After
doing so all encrypted messages are accessible until the timeout.

This behavior leads me to believe that when I installed Enigmail and
sent some signed messages to those I hoped to communicate with that I
was prompted for the pass phrase and clicked the save it to Password
Manager button.

My question is how can I retrieve the pass phrase from Password Manager
so that I can enter it at the other prompt I am getting and save it
there as well. I have looked and see nothing obvious there. What
keywords would have been stored with the Enigmail pass phrase that I can
search for to recover it?

Password Manager Not Auto-Populating As Expected W10 Desktop SM 2.49.4

2018-10-07 Thread bo1953

Hello all,

After moving my profile from one drive to another, I have found that the
PW Manger is not auto-populating any longer.

From what I can tell, all passwords are showing in the manager and
correctly...

Any ideas or suggestions on how to get this working again?

TIA - bo1953

If you did, go into the Data Manager, choose "Permissions Only," and

Thanks for the to about Permissions. Unfortunately, it seems that the
site in question makes no entries of any sort in the Data Manager at
all. That is, there is no entry for this site in any of the Data Manager

Oops. That one is gone. The passwords permissions are now saved in the
permissions database itself so you can find them under the regular permissions
tab. Only the passwords are now still saved in logins.json in your profile.

If you can file a bug I can see that the help is updated.

However, a couple of versions back I had to log in for the first time at an
organization's site, but SM would not offer to save the ID and password
details for me, and still not on subsequent occasions. The help desk people at
the organization suggested that I might have accidentally clicked on "never
save password." I don't think I did, but when I went to check this out,
something seems amiss.

Firstly, I deleted an already saved item from the password manager, then went
to the relevant site and logged in manually to see if SM offered to remember
the details again. It did, so that aspect of things seems to be working
correctly.

Secondly, I looked in the SM help file to read up on the subject. There, it
says that the Password Manager has two tabs, one saying "passwords saved" and
the other saying "passwords never saved." However, when I click on Tools -
Password Manager - Managed Stored Passwords", what I get is a window labelled
"Data Manager."  This is divided vertically into 2 resizable halves. The left
is headed with a drop-down box where you can select All data Types, Cookies
only, Permissions only, Preferences only,  Passwords only, and Storage only.
Below that is a search box labelled Search Domains, which appears to search
All data types, which includes all the other categories.

On the right half of the window, at the top, are 5 tabs labelled Cookies,
Permissions, Preferences, Passwords, and Storage. These are greyed out, but
one or the other will go live when an item is clicked on in one of the
afore-mentioned categories that can have their contents listed over in the
left half. Once a web site address in the Passwords category on the left is
clicked on, the passwords tab on the right goes live and two buttons labelled
Show Passwords and Remove appear along with the now displayed URL and Username.

The point of this long description is that nowhere in the window are the tabs
saying "passwords saved" and "passwords never saved" which the Help file
states should be there.

Why not?

The absence of the "passwords never saved" tab meant that I couldn't check the
contents to see if I had, in fact, accidentally instructed SM to never save
the password as the organization's help desk suggested.

Bottom line seems to be that either the SM Help file is out of date due to
some changes to the SM GUI, or there is something wrong with SM. Any
suggestions would be welcome, because SM saves all my other passwords as it
should, and I think it is the website that is at fault - I hope to convince
them of that.

Re: Password Manager Quick Question - SM 2.49.1 W10 Pro

2017-11-14 Thread Hawker

David - are others having this issue as well?
Sounds like for the OP and myself (I am on Win7 not Win10) The built in
password manager broke on the 2.49 update.
I can go to the password manager and they are all still there, but the
auto complete is broken.

Does the OP also find the passwords are still in the manage stored
passwords interface just not auto completing?

logins with both security and integrity, I must then trust SeaMonkey

Doesn't really address the OP's question. He's concerned by several
posts we've seen here about SM forgetting passwords after recent
upgrades. I, too, would be greatly inconvenienced if SM forgot all those
nuisance logins that I entrust to it.

As much as I trust SeaMonkey, I still use a lengthy pass-phrase (not
merely a password) as my master password. I also periodically
change the individual passwords for the Web sites of my financial
accounts and certain other critical Web sites.

As a policy, I don't save logins and passwords for financial
institutions in SM or anywhere else my computer. However, in a separate
file with a nonobvious name and location, I do save fragments or clues
to those logins and passwords along with a slew of other unrelated data.

So for a simple example (this isn't a real case), for one of my banks I
may save the fragment "Yankees," which reminds me to add the fragment
"rule!!" when I enter it in the website. For another example (again, not
a real case), I may save "hIOdnV7QT9A_aJvHnZ2dnUU7" (I grabbed this just
now from your message id) and remember that the login is "hIOdnV7QT9A"
(the first part) and the password is "_aJvHnZ2dnUU7" (the second part).
Nothing in the file mentions the institutions or their websites, so it's
not obvious to anyone else which parts of the mass of data go with what.
And since what is there is incomplete (the rest being saved in wetware),
cracking it won't help without the other part.

There are many ways of saving useful reminders (not complete logins or
passwords) without assuming unreasonable risks.

I have never seen SeaMonkey forget a saved password. I have indeed seen

I suspect it is a problem with Password Manager. When I go to Tools: Password
Manager: Manage Stored Passwords in this computer it is not responsive like on
the other computers, and after a while it says "Warning: Unresponsive script: A
script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can
stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script
continue. Script: chrome://communicator/content/dataman/dataman.js:779".

I have forgotten how to re-install the current SeaMonkey version, replacing
what is there, or I would have tried that before now. I don't have a clue how
to replace Password Manager.

Help please? Thanks.

Password Manager problem

2017-08-27 Thread Jay O'Brien
I am running V2.46 in Win 10 in three computers at my desk. My primary computer
won't get mail from my gmail account, it says it connects to pop.gmail.com,
then it does nothing. The other computers get gmail fine from the same gmail
account.

You can
stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script
continue. (It then identifies where the script resides)

I have forgotten how to re-install the current SeaMonkey version, replacing
what is there, or I would have tried that before now. I don't have a clue how
to replace Password Manager.

Help please? Thanks.

Do not use the Data Manager. Instead, get the Passwords button (an
extension) from
<https://codefisher.org/toolbar_button/toolbar_button_maker/en-US/suite/>,
install it, and then customize your menu bar or tool bar to include it.
From the Customize Toolbar window, its icon is a yellow and orange key.

David, why shouldn't Dirk use the Data Manager/Password Manager as it
comes in SeaMonkey?? I just clicked mine up and it seems to be working
O.K. No need for any Extensions!!

The Data Manager only displays passwords for a single specified domain.
The Passwords button displays the entire password database all at once.

Note, however, the Passwords button requires the user to enter the
master password merely to display the domains and user IDs. The master
password must be entered a second time to display the actual passwords.

With only user IDs displayed, the Passwords button allows the user to
change a selected user ID. With passwords also displayed, the Passwords
buttonallows the user to change a selected user password. I cannot find
a Data Manager capability for such editing.

Finally, the Passwords button provides options for displaying when a
password wasfirst used, when a password was last used, last changed, and
how many times it has been used. No such options exist for the Data
Manager.

O.K., if it does what you need done, fine, and if the Data Manages does
what I need, also fine!

Interesting, so there are two ways to find passwords in SeaMonkey,
thanks for pointing this out.

I don't like that, it is the Microsoft way of making interfaces.
Something like four different ways of choosing a font in an application,
with four different interfaces.

There should be one way, perhaps callable from different places in the
interface, but one interface. I'm sure it contributes to the stability
and the maintainability of the application.

Thanks, that worked.

Actually when SeaMonkey is running there are three webappsstore files:

webappsstore.sqlite
webappsstore.sqlite-shm
webappsstore.sqlite-wal

After shutdown, only webappsstore.sqlite is left. On my system it had a
size of about 100MB. I moved it to my Documents map, and restarted
SeaMonkey. I got a new webappsstore.sqlite with a size of just 128kB. It
seems all passwords are there, and the problems are gone.

Oops! I gave incomplete information.

Near the top of the indicated Web page, check the checkbox for SeaMonkey
and uncheck the checkboxes for Firefox and Thunderbird. Neqar the
bottom of that page, check the checkbox for "Offer for download instead
of installing"; and uncheck the other checkboxes. Then check the
checkbox for Passwords near the middle of the page. Finally, select the
Download button.

Some editing is required. Open the toolbar-button-f2d93a823a-1.1.1.xpi
file using a Zip application. Within the file .xpi file is the file

2.39

Doesn't help that every time Data Manager is opened the complete list is
refreshed 2 times. I looked at it briefly but I think it needs a rewrite
and switch to asynchronous processing. If SeaMonkey weathers the XUL
removal storm I will look into it. Not worth it now.

Usually this is used by websites to store offsite data. Sometimes also
something called supercookies just used to track you.

Under preferences-> Advanced->Offline Web Application you should see if
something is stored. That can undermine you privacy pretty fast so I
usually have it disabled. You usually can delete the file. Any needed
data will be stored again. If unsure move it out of the profile and only
restore it if you experience problems.

webappsstore.sqlite-wl 3KB dated 07-02-17 23:35

It looks that those files are used, BUT I never use SM offline.

So what ? Is it a good idea, when SM is not running to delete those 3
files to gain 43MB ? I dont know what's inside those files ... So
better avoid the deletion ?

I was having this issue with the SM 2.48 version. If I went to check on a
password, it would lock the browser up tight for several minutes. After
reading about the issue with the 'webappsstore.sqlite' issue, I went into
my profile, opened it, closed down SM, and then changed the name to
webappsstorea.sqlite and the issue went away. If I should ever need it,
it's still there. Other than that, I've little other problems.

Since SeaMonkey 2.38 and possibly since SeaMonkey 2.35, the inherent
Password Manager has worked for me with the same functionality that the
Remember Passwords extension gave me in SeaMonkey 2.26.1 (before changes
in Password Manager broke the extension).

2016-03-22 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
It's likely bad entries in the permissions database. The migration of them in
2.39
and 2.40 sometimes didn't work well. You can also currently kill the Data
Manager
by adding a permission for an about: page or a similar uri. And if you do not
have
a default dictionary entry the passworts won't work either. The later one is
already fixed in 2.41+ but the Data Manager changes have not been checked in
yet.

Anway. I would suggest useing a a new profile after 2.38. So much junk got
migrated. Even with the fixed Data Manager I junked mine and never looked back.
Cleared a few problems.

I think any bounce messages from subscriber addresses (e.g. if an
address doesn't exist, or mailbox is full, etc.) go to that address,
instead of to the original sender. The list manager might just ignore
such messages, or some mailing lists I've seen automatically unsubscribe
addresses which continually bounce for more than a certain time.

The copy of a message sent to you has the address you mention in its
headers. If it couldn't be delivered for some reason, your mail server
(or an intermediate server if it didn't even get that far) would send a
message to that address describing the problem. The list software can
then deal with the problem, without bothering the original sender who
probably doesn't want to be bothered with a whole pile of delivery
failure messages every time they post to the list.

Password Manager

2015-08-02 Thread SameulS

Hello all,

A bit of input please...

My PW Manager has stopped working for some strange reason on SM 2.33.1
on a W 8.1pro machine.

For the last few weeks I have tried to figure out if it was a setting or
something else and cannot do so.

Any ideas of what to try next?

TIA - bo1953

 doesn't work.

I created a test profile where I installed the Last Password extension.
From only a brief test, I get a strong impression that it saves my
passwords externally, on some remote server. Is this true? That is
definitely NOT what anyone should want.

Even if I encrypt my passwords using Password Manager's master password,
I still want to restrict the storage of my passwords to my own PC.
Password Manager stores the encrypted passwords in the user's profile.
I have four profiles, two of which have passwords. All four passwords
are in a non-standard location.

This does not work in SeaMoneky 2.33 when the user ID is entered on one

autocomplete=off.

Since 2.32 autocomplete=off is ignored and therefore you don't need the
Remember Passwords extension anymore.

I had the very same setup like you on Linux with 2.26.1 and the Remember
Passwords extension and I successfully upgraded to 2.33 with all my old
passwords. I removed the extension before doing the upgrade (have backup of
profile!).

Note that the auto-fill behaviour is indeed a bit clumpsy:
It seems you have to first click into the password field once and then the
username field raises possible stored values as usual.

Is this extension offered for SeaMonkey? If not, can it be converted
for use with SeaMonkey? Does it operate as simply as the Remember

interested in checking this out if it can restore the functionality lost

Yes, autocomplete=off is generally ignored only when inputting a new

My experience, however, is that autocomplete=off is not ignored for
