Re: [swinog] Geldspielgesetz: Zugangssperren. Wirklich vom Volk so gewünscht?
Hallo Benoit, Eigentlich hast Du recht... Also im extremfall hast Du realtiv teure Prozesse.
Wenn so was kommt. Also nützten DNS Sperren relativ nichts.
I tried to call the 0800 668866 hotline but it seems it's .. well, hot :) because I get network busy when calling and every now and again I can traverse the call center menu but phone calls hang after a few minutes (before I speak to a human). Perhaps others have seen troubles in the Eden of Cablecom? Symptoms are: dhcpd at 62.2.28.44 gives out net-10 (10.151.169.44) and if I change my local mac I get another rfc1918 address. The head is up and I see arp traffic on the ethernet, but otherwise IP is not possible. Cool hack-fact: until I reset the modem this morning, established traffic (by pf statefull firewall on my home router) was live and kicking, just new sessions would not be established. I'm pretty sure cablecom is at fault, but I can't seem to reach them to talk. Can somebody confirm? Are there other contacts I can try? Re: [swinog] Swisscom disables xxx website!?
Hello, I think is it the old Problem... Swisscom and other ISP which are hosting some adult content has received some Mails... Please remove the page xxx.hot.xxx or we make some DDOS Attack every yy hours... And the Problem is the most of the DDOS Attaks comes over botnetworks. The Backborn line are full if the attaks comes. The cyber war between the adult content (anbieter) is gonig since 2 or more years. Now is the problem. The attaks are so often that a provider must look what he is doing. The best way is to remove adult content. Then the ISP has fixed the problem (for the Moment) But it is possible that other content anbieter make the same. They say p. exemple please remove the webpage books.ch from your network else we are making a lot of DDOS Attaks. At the moment is this only by the adult content a problem. But i think in the future will be this a problem by all content catagories. Which are making money. Sorry but I think you would not think like this if you are a customer of an ISP that is under constant DDoS because of a single site. But it also sucks that the owner of the attacked sites are unwilling to pay for the service which will protect them. Most of the time those sites don't have the money to get the connectivity and protection they need so should the unaffected customers pay for them? Are you willing to pay more? Sorry if a provider goes the way that he shut down some of his customer, because of a DDOS Attack it will be voulnerable also for other cyberterror things. The big question is, why was the customer DDoSed in the first place 99% of all customers are never DDoSed but suffer from the 1% that are and those 1% are normaly not even willing to pay more for the excess bandwith, the excess support time, or additional HW needed just for them. And sorry, this has nothing to do with cyberterror, this is just the good old russion buisiness network trying to blackmail or destroy some competitor. cyberterror things I think you watched too many 24 episodes. And voulnerable means not on the technical way, but on the financial and political way. Did you ever read the AGB of your provider? I think I never saw a clause mentioning that the ISP will protect you from DDoS and and other attacks. Normaly it is the opposide. So it would be interesting how Swisscom would solve this challenge in the future. What about the other ISPs? This is a global issue. We has this canceled 5 years ago, if we have the same hacking attak on our Servers. For little Provider isn't possible to host a XXX Webpaga. Now you can see the bigest Provider as this problem too. Re: [swinog] Vorratsdatenspeicherung
Man findet jedoch nichts. Was heisst das?

Was haltet ihr davon.
Was heisst das? -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Andre Oppermann [mailto:opperm...@networx.ch] Gesendet: Montag, 13. Was die Geräte können müssen etc. ... Februar 2009 07:22 An: swi...@swinog.ch Betreff: Re: [swinog] Post from Canton de Vaud In this topic, Andreas and Roger you are asking who should pay to implement these measures... I'm sad to tell you that YOU probably will have to pay for that. Despite your hope, I am pretty sure that (if a law making that appliable does exist) nobody except you (and at the end your customers if you increase your service price) will pay for such a blocking system. Even if it can seem unfair, in fact it works like that: - Some cantons voted for banning smoke in public places (restaurants, bars, ...) except in one dedicated and closed aread (called fumoir in French). The restaurant managers will pay for the needed changes to become compliant. They will not receive money from the authorities to do so. - In our work activity, we also have legal requirements. As ISPs we have the obligation to keep historical data about IP address allocation for our customers, we have to keep some records about e-mail that are sent from our mail exchange relays, ... Once again, the ISPs financed these modifications / changes / upgrades to comply the law. This is the way it works in Switzerland: Politicians (and/or citizens when a subject is voted by them) decide the laws. Other key players assume the financial charge for it. I am not saying this is a bad idea (I agree with this way to do! (*)), however I consider that the investments should be reasonable and they should have proved their effectiveness. In the present case, this is the main problem: blocking the access to some web content (in addition to the problem of censorship I already expressed in previous posts) is not effective: 1) the simple use of a relay/proxy/anonymizer would permit to defeat this protection; 2) if ISPs are concerned with this measure, enterprise would not be permitting to access the offending content from an office workplace! (*) I mentionned above I agree with the way consisting of political deputies (or citizens) making a decision, and involved actors to finance the required changes. Let me explain why. I still believe we are living in a very democratical country where individuals and companies have their own responsabilities and obligations. Everybody must take the needed measures to comply with the law without expecting any compensation. IMHO this has the advantage to make everybody playing an active role in the final decision about a law. Most of the laws follow a consult phase (phase de consultation in French); other laws are voted by the citizens. If you're not happy with a project law, you can inform (lobbying with the deputies / advertise the citizens) the decision makers about the problems you will face (inadequate price / effectiveness ratio for instance) but at the same time also announce that this correspond to a form of censorship. At the end, you don't make the decision and you can win or lose. But democracy is more or less respected. If the Authorities would have to finance such a decision (such as the hardware + implementation of a censorship solution), your role would be lowered much more. Your voice would count for peanuts. That Authorities would tell you: Shut up, we decide, we pay, your financial and ethical opinions do not matter. Once again, my questions about the present topic are: - Is there an existing law permitting to mandate ISPs to block access to a given content? If yes, who can decide of such blocking (a canton court or a Swiss court)? - Why was this decision to block access from the ISP taken, instead of making the hosting provider removing the offending content? The first solution is technically known to be uneffective as workarounds exist and can be used by people with only a little technical knowledge or by users having a web access from an enterprise. - Ethically, I consider this way to proceed as a form of censorship: blocking access to a published content match my definition of censorship (we decide what is good for you or we filter for your well-being, take care you prove G. Orwell right). Removing (and not simply restricting access) an offending content is a legal decision that can (and must) be taken, if that content is considered as illegal. This does not shoke me. Even if the result (for the Swiss web users) is the more or less same (it will not have access to that content), the taken action is totally different. In one case, this is filtering for some world citizens, in the second case, this is global removal of the content. An analogy can be made with publishing world: If a book containing offending someone (physical or moral person) content is written,

Re: [swinog] Has Bluewin a DNS Problem
The Problem is we have on this IP 30 Domains... When I must have for everery Domain an IP for the reverse of Bluewin is a big Problem... I must have in future an A Net... I think Bluewin must fix this. Greetings X. Aerni - Original Message - From: Franco Hug [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, March 26, 2008 1:29 PM Subject: Re: [swinog] Has Bluewin a DNS Problem Hi Xaver, I had a similar problem when I set up the mail server on my virtual server and wanted to send mail to domains that are hosted by zoneedit.com. Step 2: == Bluewin does a normal forward DNS lookup, using the result from the above query. The forward (A) query has to match your IP address, otherwise Bluewin will complain about the PTR record. However, the above query returned more than one value, so I am not sure which host is used for the lookup - I guess that just the first host is taken. Since the order is random, you cannot say anything reliable about which host will be used for the lookup. Maybe it even fails directly if the response is not unique - I don't know. When I tried the lookup the first time, mailhost.aquacare.ch was used for the query. However, mailhost.aquacare.ch does not exist (even the domain does not exist), so the lookup fails and rightly so Bluewin complains about your PTR record. I think the purpose of this reverse and forward DNS lookup procedure is to prevent spam, since most spam comes from hacked machines (mostly from dynamic IP address ranges) which do not have correct PTR records - just as it is the case with your machine ;-) Gruass, Franco Adrian Ulrich wrote: Good Morning, Is your source ip 195.141.232.78 ?
AW: [swinog] vtx ADSL /30 subnet practice
We have on ADSL an /24 The Broadcast adresses xx.xx.xx.0 and xx.xx.xx.255 arn't to take And the xx.xx.xx.1 is for the Router this is correct. If the costumer are useing 4 IP's he must book 8 IP's than he can use 5 IP's This is normal... Greetings X. Aerni -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Im Auftrag von Daniel Roethlisberger Gesendet: Sonntag, 3. Juni 2007 21:23 An: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Betreff: [swinog] vtx ADSL /30 subnet practice It seems that vtx has some very strange way of configuring the /30 subnet when customers order 4 fix IP addresses. Normally when someone orders a /30, the ADSL router's PPP interface would get an address from an unrelated address range. The 4 addresses from the customer's /30 subnet can be used by the custumer for the network and broadcast addresses (-2), the router's LAN interface (-1), leaving one address for a server or desktop machine. However, this seems not to be the case at vtx.ch. As two vtx engineers explained to a (tech-savvy dipl. Inform.) customer, they use the addresses from the /30 subnet for the PPP link between their last router and the customer's ADSL router. So in effect, this means ordering a /30 subnet (the 4 fix IP addresses option) from vtx gets you the same as ordering a single fix IP address -- you get a static address on your ADSL router's PPPoA/PPPoE interface, period. To actually use the static address on a server/desktop, you need to either configure destination NAT on your router or operate it in bridging mode and run PPPoE directly from the server/desktop. Can anybody confirm that this is current practice at vtx? Are other providers doing the same? -Dan -- Daniel Roethlisberger [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ swinog mailing list swinog@lists.swinog.ch http://lists.swinog.ch/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/swinog ___ swinog mailing list swinog@lists.swinog.ch http://lists.swinog.ch/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/swinog

And anyone who has a Ham-Radio station (like me) in the neighborhood has anyway to expect interferences on CATV in the ranges: 1.8 - 2.0 MHz 3.5 - 3.8 MHz 7.0 - 7.4 MHz 10 MHz 14.0 - 14.4 MHz 18.0 - 18.2 MHz 21.0 - 21.5 MHz 24.8 - 25.0 MHz 28.0 - 29.7 MHz 50.0 - 52.0 MHz (limited to 25 W EIRP) 144 - 146 MHz All frequency range above are allowed with a maximum EIRP of 1 kW ! Note also that all the above ranges beside the 7MHz band are exclusive assigned frequency. Therefore the cable provider has to ensure that there are no leakage from CATV to air and vice versa. The return frequency band is 6 to 29MHz so wherever the return channel will be it always overlap with one of the Ham bands. (sideffect, there was a 2,5A current flow thru that earthwire connection) btw: there was a 100hz TV and a PC with videocard connected to the CC net, if switched on they produced additional 10DB wideband noise between 10 and 45 mhz this leads me to the idea, what when a CC angry user with HF experience inject a jamming signal into his wall socket ? ;-) That is one big disadvantage of that technology. how about the legal issue then ? Re: [swinog] BGP problems at Cablecom?
With the Buisness Lines this sites work ok. I think is the old DNS Problem of Cablecom. The best way is you take an other DNS (not ns(x).Cablecom.net), then it will be worked. If you havn't an other Free DNS you write a Mail. I can give you a DNS for testing. Greetings X. Is it possible to multiplex 2 SDSL Lines to a 3 Mbit Line... that we have 3.6 Mbits We don't use Internet Connect we must only connect two Points. That's easily possible, if you have both end points under your controller. You will need a device which is capable of mixing the datastream. Depending on your budget and application, you can use two Linux or *BSD based machines with some SDSL Bridges (e.G. ZyXEL), or you can buy a router appliance equipped with two SDSL cards and the appropiate licenses. If you need the latter, talk with the presales support of your distributor, they can tell you which products can fulfill your needs. If you are on a limited budget, you might try the first variant. This needs more technical expertise, though. ___ swinog mailing list swinog@lists.swinog.ch http://lists.swinog.ch/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/swinog ___ swinog mailing list swinog@lists.swinog.ch http://lists.swinog.ch/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/swinog
