Hello Ian, > I need to preserve the existing message database and apart from a > separate copy of the messages and then doing Backup through the Tools > menu, is there any thing I need to do? In addition to the TB internal backup of your message database and settings, I would do a full backup of TB program files and data files. I would then uninstall TB and the message database so you can install 9.3.4 fresh without any possible corruptions that may have happened in between. Once your new 9.3.4 is installed you should be able to use TB's restore to restore your message database, address book and settings. This should avoid any quirky differences that may exist between 4.2 and 9.3.4. The full backup of TB program and dataa files will allow you to return to your pre-9.3.4 state just in case things do not go as smoothly as we both think they should. Re: Moving to a new pc
Hello Tom, T> thank you for your assistance. When you refer to the tbk file that's the backup files, right? Yes, the TBK file is the Bat backup file. To prepare for moving, I would first go to the Folder Maintenance Center and run everything. That will compress your files and to hopefully assure that everything is aligned. Then I would run a new full backup just to use for the transfer rather than relying on your existing weekly backup. T> Will that include also my templates? Yes, your TBK backup should include your templates, account information, address book, everything. Just make sure that you have checked all the boxes including global for the backup. T> Do you think one or the other method is safer? I think transferring via the TBK backup is safer and cleaner . . . when it works (it usually does). Running the Maintenance Center first should help insure this. If it doesn't work, it is probably because of corruptions in your files that weren't fixed by running Maintenance. Then Peter's method of copying the data directory over will work, quite probably bringing the file corruptions over. Remember, you still have the original data files and, probably/hopefully, a normal system backup of the same as insurance. Hope this helps. -- Best regards, Richardmailto:the...@newmangroup.com === Using The Bat! v9.0.16.9 (BETA) (64 bit) on Windows 10 Current version is 8.0.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Moving to a new pc
Hello Tom, Peter's suggestions should work just fine for you. I keep my TB data files on a separate hard drive/partition. And have gone through the same exercise you are encountering. I usually do a backup in TB and move the files over via the backup to keep things in sync. If you install TB in the new machine and open TB it will look for a TBK. 1) If you want your data in the normal default location just open the new install of TB without allowing it to bring over the TBK info or setting up any account. That will establish the default data directory. Then point TB to your TBK and it will bring over everything to the default location. 2) If you want you data in another location, give TB that location during set-up or go back into the installed TB and change the mail directory (under Options, Preferences, System) to the location you want. Then have TB import your TBK file. Your choice on which method you prefer.

Re: redirect action is not limited to newly downloaded mail
Hello TheBat User, Thanks Mau, >> The three filters I have (Account--> Sorting Office/Filters) >> have the following result actions: > But what or where are they? Incoming, Outgoing, Read, Replied or > Selective download? Everything is Incoming Mail., as are all my filters. I forgot to mention it, as it is my norm. Sidenote: I would like for TheBat! to handle manual filtering without HotKeys, or being concerned with Read or Replied, but I have not seen that function. For comparison, Eudora has a simple Incoming, Outgoing, Manual checkbox choices for any filter. For manual you highlight the group of messages and then "Filter Messages", only the manual filters are checked. One purpose of a manual filter is a two-tier system, lots of stuff in to a combined box, and then filter to the permanent individual boxes. Since TheBat! has virtual folders, there is not a compelling need, but it is a clean and workable methodology. > It would also help to actually see one of those filters. redirect action is not limited to newly downloaded mail
Hello The, I have a puzzle regarding when filters are triggered. There are 3 filters I use to trigger a redirect to mail to a Runbox account. When this happens, an email is created in the Outbox. (Can I automatically delete the new email .. this is not very important, but I am curious.) These are the only filters in my system that reference the Runbox acct. = The three filters I have (Account--> Sorting Office/Filters) have the following result actions: Redirect to (my Runbox account) And they are marked as follows. = Active - checked Manual - blank (unchecked) Hotkey - blank Options This filter is active - Yes Use this filter for manuel refiltering - No Continue processing with other filters - Yes Send generated Messages According to the Account Settings === My thought is that these filters should only trigger on the download, which comes from my Verizon-AOL box. Yet in fact they often are triggered on any regular activity I do in TheBat!, leading to hundreds of generated new redirects. Is this a glitch, or am I missing something in how TheBat! operates? Sub Filters: can I create 'filter groups'?
Hello TBUDL: Please forgive my ignorance, but could someone please tell me if it is possible to create 'filter groups'? I can't find a definitive answer to this question (and I have looked) so please forgive me if this question has been asked to death and answered over and over: If I create a main filter in the Sorting Office and call it 'Lists', do I need to add any specific conditions for sub filters below it to be processed? I noticed that there after adding a condtion to the filter you can select 'any message, which I imagined allowed for this, but I tried that and sub filters below the main 'Lists' filter still aren't processed (actions for all subfolders are simply filtering to folders). So just to make absolutely clear, so I'm left in no doubt, this means then, if I have 45 people belonging to a private group/list/forum whatever, and I can only filter against their individual aliases, to be able to filter each individual's emails (and my replies to each of them) to 'their own folders' I _still_ have to create 90 separate filters, 45 incoming and 45 outgoing? Re: Sub Filters: can I create 'filter groups'?
Hello Roelof, On Mon, 10 Sep 2007 18:00:36 +0200 your time, you said: [...snip...] RO Create an AB group 'filter contacts' and add those 45 people to it. [...snip...] RO Now you've got two choices, either you want all of them moved to the RO same folder or you want to move each message to a folder matching your RO contact. Yes, it was most definitely the latter option I was after. RO The first case is rather straightforward, the second case needs a macro. Yeah, well, I thought as much; many addresses to one folder would have been a doddle of course. RO I tested it with a single address [...snip...] I just used the Phone RO entry, because I don't use that and I wouldn't like folder names with RO email addresses, but YMMV. Nor me. I'll give that a go though, and experiment, thankyou for you help. RO Of course you'll still need two filters for this to function properly, RO one incoming filter and one outgoing filter, note that you'd need RO something like %ABToPhone for the outgoing filter. Yes, I thought as much. IOW it's still a PITA to set up, but 'needs must' as the expression goes! RO And before I forget it, you'll need to check 'create if necessary' with RO the move to action. Okay. RO Also when you don't use something that you've been using in your address RO book (like %ABFromPhone in stead of %ABFromName) you need to enter that RO field for all of the contacts you want to sort this way. RO Confused? Me too. Surprisingly, I'm following everything. However, after setting that lot up I doubt whether I'll be as chirpy ;-) Really, I suppose it boils down to cosmetics and preference at the end of the day. I mean that organising particular contacts into a 'group' in AB and filtering against the AB group will still mean just as much effort setting up as creating indiviudal filters for each email address under the Sorting Office. It's just that the filters list won't be as long if you do it the AB way...and instinctively we like to group things. Anyway, thanks for your help and I'll go away and playfor a while and then decide which way I prefer :-) -- Slán, SI{mon} * W2K Pro SP5 + TB! 3.99.3 Current version is 3.99.24 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

The latter is why I love filtering on AB RO groups, though my groups are collected in group related folders. Yes, indeed, after thinking about it, and reading these last replies from you and Chrisopher, I do see that AB filtering must be the best way forward for me. And I actually already have most of my contacts in various AB groups already, as is my habit, so I do believe I'll be following the good advice provided here and filtering against the AB groups in future. Re: Help: Regex reply
Stuart, Off the top of my head I would say that if you have control of the form on the web page you could actually do all the hard work there and store the info in hidden fields before its mailed to you. Doing this, you could construct an e-mail from those fields into the subject line with various delimiters that could be easily checked. Hello Tom, On 09 September 2005, 07:17 you wrote: You need to copy the certificate into your Address Book trusted CA section. How do I do this? My address book has a Certum CA Directory, Netcenter Member Directory, and Verisign, although I don't know what any of them mean and there's no info in the help file on them (I thought they had to do with LDAP for some reason, but don't know why I thought that now). You should also see two red icons for Intermediate CA and Trusted CA in your address book... Right-clicking gives me a menu where I can add new contacts or groups, but neither of those seem appropriate as I just want to add a certificate that says, when you get this domainx certificate, it's ok if you're connecting to domainy. However, whilst trying to replicate your issue (since my certificate now matches the server name) I have experienced problems and cannot get it to work permanently. Importing the certificate into the trusted CA doesn't prevent the server hostname/certificate mismatch. Yet I do recall having this working in the past. Roelof says in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] that this isn't possible. If so, I must have had a work-around. Yet the only thing I can come up with is that I used the server IP and this matched the dummy certificate first used by my server. However, I'm sure it used something like localhost.localdomain and not the IP address, which rules out that idea... Anyway, what I suggest is you try this: you import the certificate into you trusted CA and then change your mail settings to the server listed in the certificate not pop.fancy.org (your MX record points to mx.futurequest.net.) It may not be your domain name but that shouldn't be important since your hosting company supports multiple domains on its server(s.) It's your login that matters. Can anyone explain why it is that when I receive an email that appears to be HTML only does TheBat! offer me an empty email? From what I can see it appears to be stripping out the HTML code that would link externally and provides me with a stripped email of everything except the headers. I find this not the least bit annoyoing that TheBat has made the decision on my behalf not to show me the content of these emails. Please can anyone offer me a solution. I have today received an email from a friend that has no content! -- Morpheus The Bat! 2.12.00 O/S Windows 2000 5 Current version is 3.0.1.33 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

From T what I can see it appears to be stripping out the HTML code that T would link externally and provides me with a stripped email of T everything except the headers. TB strips nothing. Nothing was sent. The message is nothing but a link to an external message. TB will not download any external content since this would amount to a security breach. This is probably why you think the message is Empty. Have you checked the source data of the message? Is the content purely external or is the message, in fact, comprised of invalid / un-displayable HTML? If so it might be the result of a bug in either the sender's client or in TB's rendering system. Hi Friday, October 15, 2004, 4:30:22 PM, you wrote: Hi TBUDL, Can anyone help resolve why when I redirect an incoming email which contains active hyperlinks i.e web page URL does it redirect with a plain text message format thereby rendering the facility of clicking the URL useless to the new recipient? assuming you'r original email was sent as plaintext as well this is simply due to the email client of your recipent. when you've receipt your email as html either forward it as html as well or don't inline the original message but attach it to the forward. You misunderstand my message. I am referring to the facility of REDIRECTION which should not make any changes to the original email and NOT FORWARDING. REDIRECTION allows you to resend the original email to a 3rd party without the email appearing to have come from you. When doing this manually in TheBat the hypertext URL is converted to plain text and is no longer active (clickable). This then renders the facility of REDIRECTION useless. Unless I have switched something on/off that I should not have done. -- Morpheus Current version is 3.0.1.33 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Bayes Filter Problems
Hi I have spent a great deal of time reading up on how to create REG EXPRESSIONS and then add them to my TheBat!blacklist.txt with a huge number of spam email addresses. The only entry in there was a TEXT entry for the first found piece of Junk mail and then I added my REGEXPR... to individual lines below it. This morning TB! found more junk and added another TEXT entry and deleted all of my hard work! http://www.lkcc.org/achim/thebat/readme.htm specifically states that: Select any path and filename you want. You can edit this file with every text editor. Be sure that you seperate every blacklist search by a new line! You can use plain text strings or regular expressions! In front of a textstring write TEXT: and in front of a regular expression write REGEXP: I do have the option checked to autoinsert spam sender to blacklist. Is this why it is overwriting? But if I dont check this it will not gather a list of bad addresses? -- Morpheus Current version is 3.00.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I stand rapt in awe. :-) I would not presume to be so arrogant to intimate that I had a thorough knowledge of REGEX in such a short time however I have some dealings with it some time ago and with another filter program but decided to in another direction. It is not the entries that are the problem it is the software that is removing all other entries not made by itself or so it seems to me.
