Re: Voiceover stuttering when leaving phone app

2016-09-11 Thread Scott Berry
Yes I have seen this issue. I am glad you nailed it down for me. Cn you
please allow me to use your report. If so, can you send me more info and I’ll
send feedback to Apple since I am on the beta team. I have been trying to
track that nasty bug down for a while and couldn’t quite figure out what was
happening cause it would do it anywhere for me but I couldn’t find the starting
culprit.

Re: Searching in the App Store broken?

2016-09-11 Thread Rajmund
Hi, I've actually seen this bug as of IOS9, but haven't seen it with the beta
yet. So I think its either an old bug, or an app store quirk. Closing it from
the app switcher, and opening it again fixes it, though. Or at least it did for
me.

Question concerning Ipad, and Youtube

2016-09-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello once more,

I have Youtube on my Ipad, along with my other apps for intertainment.
Such as, Spotify.

I am still learning how my Ipad works. I want to watch something on
Youtube. But when I go in to the search box, and type what I want to
find, I can't figure out how to make it search. I seem to find the close
button a lot!

I've tried more than once. But I am just not having any luck.

Could someone please give me some pointers?

Thank you,

Terri

Problem with Apple tv

2016-09-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have an older Apple tv. I would like to upgrade. But right now, the
money just isn't there.

I was told by a friend, that the 3rd generation will not be able to
receive the latest update coming out.

Is this correct?

Here is my issue. I watch Netflix a lot with my Apple tv. But I also
watch some other things as well.

Tonight, I wanted to watch something on Youtube.

However, it is no longer there. Actually, there is a lot of stuff that
is gone. I think there used to be close to 60, or 70 options there. Now,
there are only 34 options.

How did this happen?

How do they go about removing content?

And why did they do this?

Any help would be rather appreciated. I'm not pleased with this, at all!

Thank you,

Terri

Yes, that KNFB Reader update does use the Volume Buttons to take a picture. I
tested this out the other day with someone who had been having trouble keeping
the device steady while double tapping on the screen. It worked very nicely.
He was an older gentleman, with arthritic shaky hands, who is new to using the
iPhone. He also appreciated the idea of scanning, particularly multiple pages,
with Fopydo Scanning Stand and a Bluetooth keyboard as an option.

I'd actually been hoping the app developers would think of physically clicking
instead of double tapping one of these days. Someone was reading my mind I
guess. Ha Ha.

I still question why the size keeps enlarging? When I upgraded the last time, I
looked at the 6 and 6+, which, I felt was like carrying a tablet around. That
may well be important for sighted consumers, but I am tired of trying of
carrying these huge things around. I need something which fits in a pocket
without falling out or in a small purse. I need decent sound and some ability
to connect with my hearing aids. This all means I am still interested in the
SE. Having a nice camera on board would be nice for when I want to hand my
phone to someone to take a picture, though since my sister and sister-in-law
are the shutter bug historians for our family, it is not totally necessary for
me.

With the sizes as they now are, I may as well pack my Surface around.

I like a great deal of what Apple has done with this product and for their
attention to our needs with Voiceover and commend them for these products. I
need Siri to become more accurate, though, it has improved immensely from its
beginning and anticipate continued improvement. The camera concerns me only in
as much as I depend upon KNFB reader, and the best quality of camera we can
have may be important to its performance. I figure the SE may be better than
the camera on the 6.

Lastly, I think the reason the size of the 6 also bothers me is, because I have
small hands, and I find the larger size harder to hold at times, especially
when using the KNFB Reader. I find it difficult to both hold the iPhone and
double tap to take the picture.

Ok, I am off my cantankerous soap box now. Just my thoughts since for me
earphone jack or not isn’t the largest issue.

Relax and enjoy the weekend. As my great grandmother used to say, it will all
come out in the “worsh”. She was Irish and wash came out sounding like worsh.

Smiling,

Dianne and Hibiscus

Re: Searching in the App Store broken?

2016-09-11 Thread Mary Otten
OK, so if this is a beta problem, I obviously shouldn't have reported it here.
But I thought the App Store has updated separately from the beta process. So I
thought maybe it was an App Store problem, just like when the Apple Store
updates separately as an app. Strange.

Hi Mary,

Running the beta I'm also experiencing the same problem.

Have reported this through the feedback app.

Yes. At least since iOS 9.x and maybe 8.x, but can't be sure. It has gotten
better though. Before, it used to happen every single time after ending a
call, but now it's more like every so often.
Annoying, but at least there's aquick fix to it by turnning VO off and on.

Re: Searching in the App Store broken?

2016-09-11 Thread Richard Turner
Mary,
I just tried the same search on my iPod 6 running the iOS 10 beta.
It said, results.
As I flicked right, the 12th flick brought me to Microsoft Outlook, email and
calendar etc.
This was after one that said Advertisement, which was about Microsoft Outlook.
So, apparently we will be getting ads in the app store searches. But, it worked

picture. I tested this out the other day with someone who had been
having trouble keeping the device steady while double tapping on the
screen. It worked very nicely. He was an older gentleman, with
arthritic shaky hands, who is new to using the iPhone. He also
appreciated the idea of scanning, particularly multiple pages, with
Fopydo Scanning Stand and a Bluetooth keyboard as an option.

I'd actually been hoping the app developers would think of physically
clicking instead of double tapping one of these days. Someone was
reading my mind I guess. Ha Ha.

Regarding shooting with KNFB, in iOS 10 update you'll be able to

I still question why the size keeps enlarging? When I upgraded the
last time, I looked at the 6 and 6+, which, I felt was like carrying
a tablet around. That may well be important for sighted consumers,
but I am tired of trying of carrying these huge things around. I
need something which fits in a pocket without falling out or in a
small purse. I need decent sound and some ability to connect with my
hearing aids. This all means I am still interested in the SE. Having
a nice camera on board would be nice for when I want to hand my
phone to someone to take a picture, though since my sister and
sister-in-law are the shutter bug historians for our family, it is
not totally necessary for me.

With the sizes as they now are, I may as well pack my Surface around.

I like a great deal of what Apple has done with this product and for
their attention to our needs with Voiceover and commend them for
these products. I need Siri to become more accurate, though, it has
improved immensely from its beginning and anticipate continued
improvement. The camera concerns me only in as much as I depend upon
KNFB reader, and the best quality of camera we can have may be
important to its performance. I figure the SE may be better than the
camera on the 6.

Lastly, I think the reason the size of the 6 also bothers me is,
because I have small hands, and I find the larger size harder to
hold at times, especially when using the KNFB Reader. I find it
difficult to both hold the iPhone and double tap to take the picture.

Ok, I am off my cantankerous soap box now. Just my thoughts since
for me earphone jack or not isn’t the largest issue.

Relax and enjoy the weekend. As my great grandmother used to say, it
will all come out in the “worsh”. She was Irish and wash came out
sounding like worsh.

No. The thing that sets the camera on the 7 plus apart, is that there are 2
lens systems on the back. The second lens is made specifically for telephoto

Hi Dave, you can upload audio via their website, overcast.fm, and it becomes
available to you from within Overcast. So you might use it for audiobooks for

I have a 6s+, and think it is too large; I would carry a backup battery

Later today I'll be upgrading my 6s to the current model.

Just wondering to those of you have the larger plus version is it worth
it to go big this time or stay with the 4.7-inch?

The improved battery life is the only up side I think.

2016-09-11 Thread William Windels
Hello,

I am looking for a explorer with build-in editor on the iPhone.
I should be able to import folder structures with txt-files and I should be
able to edit the txt-files inside the program and store the changes there.

I use usbdisc pro to store and read folder structures with txt-files but it
seems I can’t edit the txt-files.
iCloud isn’t a option since the folder structures should be available offline.

All hints are very welcome.
Kind regards,
William

Hi Chip,
No, both the seventh and plus do not have two cameras. Only the plus has two

Likely you’re right on this Mary, but this question came up with my sighted
wife and brother-in-law, so we googled for an article on the new dual camera
feature, and found several articles which said all models of 7 will have this
(although I’m sure there are mistakes plenty out there).

RE: My question is still how large are they going to allow these devices to become?

2016-09-11 Thread Merv Keck
Android has a few models that are even larger but are still classified as
phones not tablets. I think as long as they continue to offer both a smaller
choice and a larger choice then why not go as big as they want. There are pros
and cons to both small and large. And different applications for both. As well
as different people like different sizes.
Back in the days before smart phones, my dad loved his Nokia that was so small
I hated to even hold it. I was afraid I would lose it. I couldn't understand
how anyone would want to use something so small. But he loved that phone.
A few months aoo I saw someone's Samsung that made my 6S+ look tiny by
comparison. It almost made me wish I liked Talkback or whatever their version
of speech is called.
So let them go bigger and smaller if Apple wants to go bigger and smaller as
long as they keep giving us choice. Choice is good.

i don't think the phones will become any larger, than they already are, as it
will be become impractical for every day use. It will become a tablet and not a
phone.

If you check out the 6S specifications at http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/
and the iPhone 7 specs at http://www.apple.com/iphone-7/specs/ you'll see that
the the 7/7+ phones are the same size as the 6S/6S+, namely 4.7 inches and 5.5
inches respectively. The SE has a 4 inch screen as you can see at
http://www.apple.com/iphone-se/specs/

I don't think the fact that the home button is now a virtual button and not a
physical button actually creates any more screen real estate. It still needs to
be there at the bottom of the screen.

I'm not sure what the subject line means since I haven't been following this
thread and I don't see the whole thread below, but devices will keep increasing
in size as long as that's what the customers want.

All models of the 7 series are going to have improved battery life, so you are

Problem I can't get rid of

2016-09-11 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I am having a problem concerning my Ipad Mini. I kept receiving game
challenge requests, which I don't wanted. I never wanted these on my
Iphone either, and I was able to get that taken care of, a long time ago.

However, I have tried more than once to get these public game challenges
to go away. But they just keep happening.

I have set it to only send me challenges from friends. I have checked
the settings more than once. Everything seems fine.

What the heck could be going on?

Can anyone please give me some help, or advice?

I sure hope so, as this is getting incredably anoying.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: question about Overcast podcast app

2016-09-11 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Dave, you can upload audio via their website, overcast.fm
, and it becomes available to you from within Overcast. So
you might use it for audiobooks for example.

By 'wireless headphones' In this instance, I actually mean Bluetooth
headphones. The other type, that you can plug in, there are good sets of
those that work fine with hearing aids.

Apple has this thing about space - courage, space and vision, to quote Tim
Cook. . So, they didn't see why another socket was needed for older
headphones now that they've provided audio through their lightning port
instead. I'm just trying to explain Apple's argument, although personally I
don't agree with it. And you're right about the chicken-and-egg situation.
For example, I'm a hearing aid user. No pair of wireless headphones that I
know of, is yet up to the audio compatibility standards of good wired
headphones. Unlike many hearing aid users, I've found a way to use earbuds
with them and get pretty good results. It doesn't look as if AirPods will
fit that bill, if the description of having to be in the ear is accurate.
Yes, I could use the lightningEarPods; but then again I don't like the idea
of not being able easily to charge the phone as I listening to music etc, on
it.

I'm not sure I understand your point, but maybe I wasn't clear. I'm sure
you can get higher audio fidelity with a Lightning connected pair of
headphones. My point is that you don't need to remove the headphone jack
to accomplish this. Why can't I use a pair of Lightning connected
headphones even if my phone still has a headphone jack.

I've been called many things over this issue, such as stupid, dumb,
ridiculous, idiotic, pathetic
and a Luddite. I really don't think I'm a Luddite though. To me, it's a
chicken and egg situation. Do you change your device and let the
ecosystem catch up or do you prepare the ecosystem before changing your
device. If you get higher audio fidelity from Lightning connected head
phones then people would buy them and use them even if their device
still had a headphone jack. Audiophiles will flock to better audio
fidelity. Once these head phones are in the market and catching on then
you can remove the head phone jack. As it stands now, I gain nothing by
the removal of the headphone jack except for inconvenience.

I agree the adapter is meant to help bridge this gap with the ecosystem.
I doubt I'll have any problems buying a phone without a headphone jack
in a few years, but right now, I don't see any benefits.

There is at least one Android handset that beat Apple to the punch when
it came to removing the headphone jack, but most of the Android phones
still have a headphone jack.

IMHO, it'll be hard to tell for Apple to tell if the iPhone 7 is being
well received just because they removed the headphone jack. I'm not sure
what removing the headphone jack actually buys anyone right now. Any
improved audio fidelity you get with the Lightning connected headphones,
you would still see even if the headphone jack was still there. Sure,
you may see thinner and more waterproof phones in the future, but for
now, I don't think anyone is seeing the advantages of Apple ditching the
headphone jack except for Apple and peripheral makers.

I think if the iPhone 7 is received well, it'll be for features that
have been added and not those that have been removed.

If you check out the 6S specifications at
http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/ and the iPhone 7 specs at
http://www.apple.com/iphone-7/specs/ you'll see that the the 7/7+ phones
are the same size as the 6S/6S+, namely 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches
respectively. The SE has a 4 inch screen as you can see at
http://www.apple.com/iphone-se/specs/

I don't think the fact that the home button is now a virtual button and
not a physical button actually creates any more screen real estate. It
still needs to be there at the bottom of the screen.

I'm not sure what the subject line means since I haven't been following

Did I understand correctly that the iPhone 7 has been made smaller, more

And if this indeed be the case (shrinkage of iPhone 7) might not this be
the rationale Apple considered in eliminating the 3.5 MM audio jack?
This seems to follow as the “Physical Home Button” has likewise been

allowing for the overall size of the iPhone to be reduced?

Just my thoughts since for me
earphone jack or not isn't the largest issue.

Relax and enjoy the weekend. As my great grandmother used to say, it will all
come out in the "worsh". She was Irish and wash came out sounding like worsh.

allowing for the overall size of the iPhone to be reduced?

Just a thought!

Re: Belkin's coming out with the adapter some of us need

2016-09-11 Thread Christopher Chaltain

And if this indeed be the case (shrinkage of iPhone 7) might not this be the

In addition, as has been said before elsewhere, they may be removing
the headphone jack this year so they can really wow everyone with
something special next year. As one podcaster pointed out this week,
this year the main topic of conversation is the headphone jack
disappearing. While next year, everyone or most people will have moved
on from that and will be talking about whatever special item they're
working on for the 10 year iPhone. I don't like it any better than
other people, but at least they're helping to ease the transition by
including an adaptor in the box this year. They could just as easily
charge $20 or $30 for that $9 adaptor, and make us buy it as an
accessory.

Take a look at drop text. It is a very simple editor and is free. I hope
it does what you are looking for.

Hi everyone.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of an ap that will let me edit files that

What I want to do is open a document within an ap, edit it, and have the
changes save directly to dropbox, the way you can with a computer.

Is this even possible? If so, which ap can I use?
I'd prefer a free ap if possible.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Re: Wondering if anyone else has Upgraded/preordered the iPhone 7 through AT

2016-09-11 Thread Wendy Alling
Hi, using the AT app, I had no problem pre-ordering my iPhone 7. Although, I
had to do it twice. The first time it wouldn't allow me to type in the payment
field where you put in your credit card expiration date and year. The second
time everything work. It's a bit tricky but it's doable.

 Hi,
My apologies if this strays from the strictest definitions of this list but
since it does directly relate to upgrading or preordering devices as well
 as
touching on the accessibility of an app perhaps it still fits.
I’m just curious if any other listers went through the process of upgrading
a device on their AT accounts either via their My AT app or via their
 site with a screen reader?
My experience was that while most of the information both in the app and on
the web page could easily be read there were some standard type elements
which for some reason couldn’t be executed in the app or on the site using
 VoiceOver or a screen reader.
Since I’m attempting to dialog with AT in an effort to hopefully improve
their accessibility specifically in this area I thought it might be helpful
to gage the experiences of others should there be any.
It was my experience for instance that in the iOS app the process of moving
through the steps went great until you reached the point at which you were
to select your color and storage capacity. Those elements appeared as a
 link
for instance for color but when one tried to double tap on it or any other
gesture you could imagine nothing happened. At this juncture you were good
and stuck with no way forward.
On the website interestingly the elements for color selection and storage
capacity appeared as check boxes in Internet Explorer which worked fine but
list boxes in FireFox which couldn’t be executed with any of the 3 windows
screen readers I had at my disposal. And in Internet Explorer the continue
links that advanced you through each step and its accompanying page were
quite tricky to activate and only did so with one screen reader.
If anyone had experiences that were either similar or differed from that
which I had I’d love to hear about it so as to most affectively communicate
with AT in an effort to make this upgrade area better for us all going
forward. By and large I feel AT has done a decent job concerning
accessibility both in their iOS app and on site. Here’s hoping this
 glitchy
area can be ironed out too.

2016-09-11 Thread Bill Gallik
Did I understand correctly that the iPhone 7 has been made smaller, more like
an iPhone 5/5S vs. the iPhone 6/6S?

And if this indeed be the case (shrinkage of iPhone 7) might not this be the
rationale Apple considered in eliminating the 3.5 MM audio jack? This seems to
follow as the “Physical Home Button” has likewise been eliminated; this design
allowing for a larger viewing screen while allowing for the overall size of the
iPhone to be reduced?
Just a thought!

Re: What are the additional functions of the Home button on the new iPhone 7's?

2016-09-11 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I don't now do I understand this correctly.
There is no Home button as button on iPhone 7. There is just a
screen area which performs Home functions with specific haptic
feedback, something similar but not exactly like capacitive keys
  on Android devices.
So, functionality of this 3D Home is the same as it was with
physical button on prior devices. Single click is Home or Exit,
double click is App Switcher, tripple click is Accessibility
shortcut etc.. It is just you're not pressing the actual button,
you pressing the screen and get tactile feedbak which should feel
like you pressed the physical button.

  the 6.

Lastly, I think the reason the size of the
6 also bothers me is, because I have small hands, and I find
the larger size harder to hold at times, especially when using
the KNFB Reader. I find it difficult to both hold the iPhone
and double tap to take the picture.

Ok, I am off my cantankerous  soap box now.
Just my thoughts since for me earphone jack or not isn’t the
  largest issue.

Relax and enjoy the weekend. As my great
grandmother used to say, it will all come out in the “worsh”.
She was Irish and wash came out sounding like worsh.

Smiling,

Re: Wondering if anyone else has Upgraded/preordered the iPhone 7 through AT

2016-09-11 Thread Peter Logan
Nothing extra had to be done… All I did is double tap on the links and choices
and they all chose as expected… I didn't have to do anything like the other
users…

 Hi,
My apologies if this strays from the strictest definitions of this list but
since it does directly relate to upgrading or preordering devices as well
 as
touching on the accessibility of an app perhaps it still fits.

Difficulty syncing selected ringtones

2016-09-11 Thread Robin Frost
Hi everyone,
I try not to come to the list too often in need but apparently this is my day
to cast myself on the mercy of those smarter than am I. I know this has been
covered before in the recent past but I can’t for the love of all wisdom find
the message pertaining to it. So my apologies in advance for revisiting ground
already covered.
I swear I really did used to know how to sync selected ringtones with ease but
with the current version of iTunes and JFW or NVDA I’m good and confounded. My
tones are in my iTunes library. If I click on sync all ringtones I can see all
of them under my device area; but if I switch to sync selected ringtones
nowhere can I find the list view whereby I can go through and check the ones I
would like. I’m sure I’m missing something ridiculously obvious somewhere I
just do not know what it is or why this is suddenly more difficult. Thanks in
advance to anyone who’d be kind enough to refresh my knowledge and walk me
through this.
Robin
