The settings for the intel8x0 were the original format I was using for

Alsa
fixed quickly as I am in the process of
building a portable HDD recorder that uses this chip. Until this is
fixed I cannot use the micro motherboard that I have access to.
I can record successfully from the pcm channel so I know record is
working for this driver.

what is the output of cat /proc/interupts ?
That should tell you what chip the soundcard uses. Then you can check this against the
list of supported cards or ask again on the alsa-user list?

The main difference is that the 0.9 series is an almost complete re write of the 0.5
series to change some basic design flaws that were discovered while designing 0.5
which make it a more professional oriented set of drivers.
It also has better midi support I think.

That new info from lsusb could be because I just upgraded my jernel from
2.4.16 to 2.4.19-pre9. Nodoubt there was a lot of additions to the usb
code during the past 5 months.

then if then we shouldn't have included ALSA if that is
true. The ALSA code base is large and having the usb midi module as a
userland app seems to me to go against the precendant set by the rest of
the modules.
