The FHL does NOT loan books. You would have to find a library that has them
and would be willing to loan. I bet the Freitas Library in San Leandro has

That's so true, Liz, each island has names that are more true to their
island than to all. You might want to look at that center part of the
Portuguese Paleography where is lists the given and surnames. Sometimes you
can find the name there and at least get close to the correct
name/spelling! See
I have a great that is Cecilia and the priests spell it about 5 different
ways at least! Change the 'c' to 's' and the 'i' to 'y' and you get the
idea!!

Victor, this happens quite often in the Norte Grande records. The Priest or
his scribe enters the info in the wrong book (i.e. a baptism in the
marriage records, death in the baptism records) he also 'missed' a baptism

period going out of the US. There are films available from the Family
History Library that should have his application since you say he was
naturalized. If you can find one for him it should tell you when he was

They do not have the books, this fellow who lives in Big Sur has the book
that includes the 1940's (don't know how that happened) but he looked up my
grandfather's brand and copied the page. The County Courthouse here says
they don't have any of them! I've been there and asked.

OK, I thought he was talking about the UPPEC, women's organization. Now
that you mention it, it was Celeste who did the indexing of the Death
Records of UPPEC. I don't know the years covered though.

Kathy Cardoza and Susan Murphy have been indexing the death records for the
UPPEC but I think the Membership Rolls are probably at the J.A. Fritas
Library in San Leandro. Kathy is that correct??
