Can't remember if it already featured SBS 7.4.2, but from 7.5, the
multiple processes could be related to the automatic scanning feature.
I noticed it regularly spawned half a dozen squeezeboxserver processes
on my ReadyNAS (which doesn't stand this feature very well).

Well, I've been running frequently updated nightly releases on my NV+
for a while now, 7.5-embedded branch included, and I honestly can't
remember when - if ever - this feature hit the regular releases.
Check for an autorescan setting in your server.prefs file, and you'll
know.

around 100% of the CPU, but I can't
see nothing useful in the server.log or scanner.log.
I can get the SBS back to something more usable by restarting it, but
it won't last very long... :-(

That's exactly what I've seen on my ReadyNAS.
I've disabled automatic rescan, and it looks a lot better now.
At least, I was able to play two albums in a row with zero droupouts /
rebufferings...

No, the database size doesn't appear anywhere.
But even if it did, how could you tell it's - say - twice its expected
size?

In case somebody would get the same problem, it was caused by the
ReadyNAS' root filesystem being full.
Although on the Touch the squeezebox.db file weighs less than 30 MB, it
had grown up to 1 GB on the ReadyNAS, causing the trouble.

february was very
reliable. So trusty that I hadn't even cared to upgrade it for weeks.
Plus, there's an all-day overnight wipe-and-rescan job programmed, so
the database file shall not have grown up from day to day.
I wonder whether the dying PSU could have caused that in some way...
