The quote you provide doesn't actually link Omdurman with WW I.
I was surprised to see a cavalry 'charge' depicted in the film 'War Horse'
which related to WW I. I subsequently looked up on-line about cavalry charges
and since the Battle of Omdurman is oft quoted in Churchill
of Edinburgh.

I reviewed the book last year for FH and praised it very highly. In the
current FH [#157, pp. 44-6] there is a piece I wrote analyzing what I consider
the best Churchill biographies by length. I rate Jackson's as the best
medium-length biography now available.

The Amazon release date gets updated on a regular basis - and is no longer
taken seriously. I believe many of us, who have been watching since 2004
and before, have now simply given up on expecting these volumes to appear.
which is a crying shame given the effort and scholarship that Dr. Muller
Howells wrote a respectful memoir about his time with WSC titled Simply
Churchill, which you can no doubt acquire on the second-hand market. I
approached it with some apprehension but found it to be tastefully done and
worth reading.
I do not know what became of Howells afterwords, however.
